Life in a Box: Inside NYC’s Smallest Apartments
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 лют 2025
- How can this tiny apartment exist? I guess its because NYC is so popular, people just want a place to call home, even if its a box-apartment. This place might be small, but its much better than my first apartment in New York City.

Great news! If you make a purchase from any link above, my channel earns a small affiliate commission from the site.
You need merch. I would buy a t-shirt that says sink sprayer on it LOL Seriously !!
😂👏👏
Me 😅too!
Sink SPRAYER!
Or a sink sprayer plushie lol 😂
Need an 8K TV to go with your 8K apartment?
I'm Canadian, I don't ever plan on moving to the USA but I watch every single one of your videos. haha
For that last apartment:
I would make this a 2 bedroom. I would convert the top front bedroom into the living room, and use the narrow room with the second entrance as an office, along with the open space downstairs. That would give you 2 really great bedrooms, and allow you to have an eat in kitchen.
Thank you, Cash, I am now obsessed with the fridge opening "the right way". A couple of those today did NOT.
Dang these places are tiny. That's right! Tiny. Suffocating...no room for comfortable yoga. Lol.
Right?!
@@CashJordan ..and ive never cared about a sink sprayer till this channel!
Everyone in New York goes out to a studio and pays to do yoga
Love watching how people live in New York. Quite eye opening that places are so small yet people can still get along. You are a great Dad. I loved watching your road trip with your family and your positive perspective. Despite your daughter getting sick, and shopping not being your thing, you still stayed positive.
Thank you so much for not slamming the crap outta everything!! Charles is a great influence on you!!
Any place I've been in that has an outdoor area is really exciting for like the first month and then after that you barely use it.
"clean" and "spacious" are so relative! and seeing a washer/dryer brings me so much joy.
I always enjoy the way you show apartments plus including the neighborhood stores and transportation. You are so refreshing and down to earth!
Thanks, Cash, this provided a much needed distraction today. Quirky places.
On the original patent for the toilet paper holder, it specifies paper goes over, not under
I've seen a diagram from what must have been the 1800's, maybe for the patent, and, sure enough, the paper goes over not under.
You are correct sir! Over is always better than under.
"sink spraayer", Cash didn't disappoint!
Awesome job cash Jordan see you on Sunday enjoy your two day off.
Sitting in Oregon watching these, knowing I'm never going to live there, but obsessed with these videos, from seeing the neighborhoods to each apt. Thanks Cash, see you in the next one, I'll be watching.
The second unit was obviously better than the first with the exception of the outdoor patio area. Squeezing through a window to conquer the patio isn't the most ideal scenario. lol The #3 unit is kinda cool the way it steps up and down in areas. The storage above would only be useful if you weren't afraid of coming back down the ladder, like me:-) I'm afraid I'd be forever stuck in the attic. lol I do like the sink, as you said, "It has character". Re: the TP. My mother did it under but I now feel she was wrong and I think it's over. #4 I'll take the room with the pigeon view:-) 🐦 But when I compare paying $4-6K for tiny places compared to what I pay (only a mere fraction of the cost) for a three-bedroom two-bath home without any roommates, because I live alone, I have to ask myself, should I move back to NYC? Umm.....Oh, did I forget to mention I live right on the river too:-) No, I don't have a view of amazing skyscrapers but I have a great expanse where I can see for miles, and I can see ducks on the water:-) 🥀🦆🧚♀
For #3, I would work to build a better ladder and sleep up there myself. Turn one of the bedrooms into a workspace.
@@Jootunn Good idea! I'm an artist so I get it:-)
@@dissidentfairy4264 I do audio work, so having a dedicated space is critical.
@@Jootunn Of course it is. Are you looking for a place in NYC? If so, I wish you well.
I think the funky ladder is upside down. You shouldn’t have to jump up to reach the first rung and then you could go through the ladder where it’s open.
This is great if living under the streets of NYC is your goal in life. The windows 🪟 are proof that these are under the streets NYC apartments. Love to watch you Cash 💸.
We in the UK call the sweets/candy Fizzers! Smarties are small candy covered chocolate, like Reece's pieces without the peanut butter 😄
Canadian here and we have the same smarties as the UK , what they call smarties in the US are like a tablet type of candy (what we call rockets )
👍👍👍👌I can't be the only one pondering renting out the backyard of that $3995 first place to friends/associates for small gatherings: wine tastings, book club meetings, barbecues, movie nights, game nights, etc.
Cash keep em coming, always enjoy your videos.
Cash, when you step into a closet and close the door; my claustrophobia kicks in for a few seconds. Love your vids!!
That first one is small but has higher-end fixtures, but I'm leery of that restaurant vent. What odors and what critters will share your outdoor space? The second one at least has two legal bedrooms. The third one has really tiny bedrooms. The last apartment would make a nice 2-bedroom unit, but a very expensive one! The prices on all of these are scary.
I think the outdoor space avd furniture belongs to the restaurant
@@chrismulholland7530 I think you're right. Ain't that convenient, right outside your apartment! ;-)
Thanks Cash, appreciate all you do to get these out here for us.
More choices. #1 too small & dark. #2 loved it but no home laundry. #3 & #4 both had good points but there's something stopping them for being right for me. Thanks Cash.
@06:57 - I never understood why contractors install cabinets 10/11 feet up. It’s not practical or useful for most.
Hi Cash and to your friend this apartment is so tiny but unique I like the massive yard great fir bbqs and get togethers. I like vintage type small apartments, only in NYC. Stay well and safe 👍👍🐶
I worked in a privately owned airport hotel (out of high school) and you definitely pull toilet paper over, because it stops when tearing off…under keeps unrolling…don’t want the toilet paper touching the floor!! Lol Always great tours of NY and near by apartments!! 💕👍🇺🇸🙏😊
OH WOW.....out door space Heavenly...... The apt is great!!! Nice price.
Nice places. The first place being small is kind of worth having all that outdoor space. Really cool cubbies in the 2 br. On the TP. If you have pets, its always over, but it should be over every time.
Happy Thursday CJ😀n This is 4 Sure Gonna b so Interesting🔥🔥🔥👍….
Good Day Cash The apartments or beautiful.Thank you
Cash and featured RE agents:
Thank you.
We’re planning to downsize from 1900 ft. sq. house to 1500 ft. sq. (max) retirement apt., both in a southwestern city.
I’ve watched Cash’s vids for about 2 years. It’s been three decades since we last house-hunted. I think the info you share will help us evaluate retirement communities.
Best regards.
Thanks!
THANK YOU!!
First floor small one-bedroom living right next to an attached restaurant for $3,995 a month?!?!
🎼NY, NY, It’s a heck of a town.
I love your videos each week thanks you for sharing with the world
Wow some of them are pretty cute. I think my fav is the 2nd one
Gotta have a pimple mirror! I laughed when you said that, too clever! 😂
I like the one with the huge storage space with the ladder. I’d use that for a loft.
The one huge loft could be used for a living room as it is 7 x 10
ADVENTURES OF LE CHUCK!!! LUCAS ARTS!!! OMG that music is giving me super throwback gaming vibes as a teen
The ladder looks like a future law suit.
Goosebumps book reference, cover stay out of the basement 😏🤣😂😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
I have a question: With those “smart” locks apps...what happens if all the power goes out, or your phone is dead/lost, or the cell towers go down. Remember the 5-7 day blackout that effected the entire eastern part of US had a while back?
There’s a key as well. Plus they run on batteries.
Yes I will see you in the next one.
I always miss the exposition of you walking around the city and giving us updates about your company and your family, when you don't do it. You videos are always click bait but I stayed originally and have continued to watch because of your video quality and your experience (life, the city, and business) I don't even live in NYC, new York or anywhere I would need to rent a place in NYC (WV). I have officially been to NYC once for business and that's it.
Would love to see you do a mansion video with enes or producer Michael
Good morning 🌄
Dude the toilet paper goes over. Theres a diagram and everything haha 😄
Good morning Cash. I have a question, is there a reason that Queens, Staten Island and the Bronx aren't showcased very often?
Probably because no one wants to live there!
Most of these were great today.😊
All are great, accept for the basement apt, it scares me although it is nice. I would have to choose the upstairs bedrm, because the others are too close to main basement area. Also, I would make the upstairs 2nd bed rm, a dinning rm, & 1 of the rms downstairs a living rm, instead of a bedrm simply because of its odd shape, if I were to rent the apt-just a thought.
Ms. B. Churchill
Your videos get better each day. NYC, here goes. Maybe some day. Thanks again.
For that price range, it’s not worth it. I’m in a luxury building on the UWS for less than the 2nd apartment. I never understood why it’s more expensive downtown in somewhere like Chinatown or East Village..
Why is the fridge always not opening towards the stove and sink in a lot of these apartments? What’s up with that?
Cash, excellent presentation all the way through- 430k!!! Lots of humor today- loved it!
You should have merchandise- if you do- I want a shirt or hat that has an image of removing the dang battery from all of those annoying smoke detectors. That drives me cray cray too! Keep going!
☮️👏👏👏👏👏👏
It's amazing how rapidly the prices of these small apartments are rising. Idk how people can afford to live in NYC 😮.
they have their parents and grandparents pay.
Cash, in what world does that bathroom in the first apartment count as luxurious? Ugh.
I liked the 2nd apartment; something about it just felt nice.
I did miss the neighbourhood tour Cash, they're always a highlight. Oh well, next one?
Think will stay in Texas for now. Hit it lucky with a 3 bed 3 bath townhome for $1100.
#1 great like you said if you don't have much & entertain outside! ~~ #2 better kitchen ~~#3 okay..maybe ~~#4 workable
Thank u for showing all these. It makes me glad I don't live in the State or have to live like that
That “patio thing” is called a roof my friend 😂
5:09 yes, you're right. So tell me WHY there's gorgeous, functional granite countertops.. with that $20 fkn sink and faucet, which is likely going to leak and grow mold.. because in NYC and all around the world, there are landlords building crappy dysfunctional housing BUT with added luxury features that REAL ESTATE types will ping on, but none if it tells you the truth.. that it's BADLY THROWN TOGETHER, and they're literally all death traps.. What crap.
Lol, I think the property owners know to clean under the sinks before Cash comes 😅
Cash don't knock NJ rents here are lower than NY, with real functional kitchens.
Tp was trade marked with the paper over 👍
1:33 The Fridge opens the wrong way, deal breaker right there.
Cash you have joy every day. What church do you go to. It must be a good church. With all the time you spend on making videos of apartments for New York, it seems like you don't even go to church
As much as I enjoy your content, garbage like that shouldn't be advertised in my opinion.
-4000 Dollars a month is already ludicrous, but for something like that it's just completely laughable.
Landlords who rent out apartments like that shouldn't get a platform and should be shamed publicly.
I agree.
A realtor told me once, there is something for everyone. She was a very successful sales person and earned several million during her career.
@@julielumsden5184 Of course they make money-so do used car salesman, while selling overpriced junk.
Demand is there obviously 😂
Ha! Then NYC wouldn't ever get platformed. Or ANY Democrat run city for that matter.
The unit with that storage loft space. That latter is a law suit waiting to happen if that's what whoever owns the building is expecting someone to use
Kinda glad I'm not desperate for a place in NYC. I've lived in some funky places but I'm too old for that now.
Those apartments are really nice
I'd use the front room of the last apartment as a living room and have one less roommate. That is, if I was ever crazy enough to live in NYC! LOL I do live in New York state though.
I thought that smoke alarm squeak was coming from mine!!!
the tp should be definitely over, period
LOL
Happy St Patricks Day. ☘️☘️☘️☘️
Those steps in the kitchen - I would be falling down those constantly.
These are crazy! I have a small ( much bigger) studio 585.00 a month I Live 3 blocks from Times Square and see the Empire State Building
Good morning Cash ❤
#1 $3,995 ! Oooooook.
That entrance to the basement you can set up something scary for Halloween so when the person who lives in the basement next to you across who also have access to the basement, the first thing you see is some scary monstrosity as I open the door to go do their laundry in the basement best way to start the morning to get the heart racing. Keep that heart rate in in check, happy Halloween just a suggestion forever gonna live in the basement the apartment😏😈🤣😂🤣😂😂🤣😂🤣😂
Does the restaurant use the yard as well?
😂😂😂 Cash, the over or under argument!!
Should build a staircasebookshelf for that second apartment and use it as a bedroom.
Hmm... #1: The 1-bedroom @ 4K/month wasn't bad but I wouldn't be too keen living next door to a restaurant. Given that, I'm sure in that outdoor space I'd eventually see something that I don't want to see. Also, the bedroom (13x7), which is more like a walk-in closet, might be difficult to work with. #2: 1-bedroom @ $4200/month was okay--except for the price, and I had a security concern. #3: 2-bedroom @ $5K/month... Very nice building with lots of storage opportunity--if you can get to it, but wow... talk about a "chop" job! Such small bedrooms. Beautiful wood flooring, though... #4: 4-bedroom (are you sure about that?) @ $6300/month.... why bother to even install a stove? I've seen much larger break rooms. I couldn't imagine family cooking and/or roommates cooking in that space. If I had to choose it would be #2 but that's a lot of rent money!
Why am I getting the feeling that the 1st place, the backyard area which is massive might be shared with the restaurant? The furniture gives that kind of vibe. Also to the left of the window that belongs to the restaurant is a door (you don't see it bcuz of the exhaust pipe structure but you get a very quick glance of it). Also it's weird that the 1 window sends to have been made smaller by that lattice (what's the purpose of that). The 2nd place was a huge improvement. The 3rd oh yeah chop up city. You could tell from the wall by the windows in both rooms. Also the lower ceiling in the 1 was bcuz they put an open storage area about it that you'd also need a ladder for (get a better 1 than the 1 Cash climbed bcuz to me that's just an accident waiting to happen). The kitchen cabinets were nice & the wood floors but the price was nuts. The last 1, well at least there were usable egress windows but still...
Good Day !
What ever your name is: I love your sense of humor.
I love how they put extensions on the ladder. 😂
13:48 Also known as a hand towel hanger 🤣
In the top ten....🎉😂
Cash, did you have a lot of sugar today? Just wondering. I love you and your videos.
Always amazed by how small yet how expensive the flat is, but, this may sound ignorant, how much do New York City people make a month in general...?
Where the backyard is much more bigger than the whole apartment!
That knob is for bleeding the radiator.
I missed the how to get there comedy commentary. What's up with that. Nice apartments, but how do you get there?
Agreed he needs Jordan hoodies that cash on em
Apartment 1 and 2 The fridge doors are on the wrong way I'm surprised you did not point that out cash
I'd rather have a balcony than a patio. 😹
Sheesh! No living room and a sketchy way to get to your storage? 4995? Insane! 😡
Bathrooms & kitchens without vents SUCK. Especially when they're tiny & windowless like so many of these are AND you're crammed in with roommates. Omg. I can't imagine signing a year long lease & finding out you're stuck with foul smelling people who couldn't care less. Extreme vetting would be a must, yet people lie about anything to get away with stuff so, there's that. When I see these apartments that are cut into former apartment buildings that used to hold families you can see the progression/regression into shoving people into cubicle living conditions. 15 minute cities nightmares come to mind. Ugh.
Didn't lock the window tho 🙄 @ 4:19
Does anyone know what shoes Cash is wearing?!
Cash didn't put Tiny House, Illegal Apartment or mention Dunkin's coffee or Chipotle's soggy burritos in this video! Maybe he's listening haha. Now just wished he'd always put the stats on the screen in the beginning of them. Good video as always!
You're playing cash bingo, LOL
