- In 2016, newly rebuilt and expanded Nordstrand Church was the location for all the televised Easter services from the NRK (Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation). On Good Friday, Nordstrand Church Choir (Nordstrand kirkekor), conducted by Liv Marie Hofseth, had invited Aksel Rykkvin as their treble soloist. The live broadcast service concluded with Allegri's "Miserere mei, Deus".
Solo quartet: Aksel Rykkvin, Torild Møller, Vera Hafstad Bang and Sigmund Vefring.

An excellent performance. From 6:06-6:24 is Perfection. So clear and accurate, releasing the vibrato perfectly.

I have watched countless versions of this beautiful music, his voice here is so pure and perfect. A gifted singer both then and now. Bravo.
All these years later, the child Aksel, who is now a man singing baritone, remains the only singer who brings tears to my eyes and shivers down my spine.
No, there are lots of others, such as Max Emanuel Cencic and Steven Moeckel, and Elias Maedler.

O " Miserere" é Salmo de Davi, sinceramente arrependido de seu enorme pecado, implorando a misericordia de Deus. É a perfeita atitude , do homem pecador, diante do Criador,
por pior que tenha sido sua conduta, e Deus na Sua Infinita Bondade o perdoa e o acolhe.
Este Salmo (Psalm 51) foi uma inspiração divina, e acredito que sua melodia também o foi.
Diz uma das frases: " não desprezaras , oh Deus, um coração contrito e humilhiado"
Você recebeu um convite da Graça e Ela aguarda amorosamente sua resposta, mesmo que demore.

Beautiful. This takes me back to when I was a boy chorister at Canterbury Cathedral. I sang the top treble solo three times in my career - the second time was the best. The soloists went up to the lectern all with nothing but a copy in our folder - we were to take all the other music from that evensong out. Much to my amazement when I got up there, I had the wrong copy! All the other copies for that day, the Responses, Mag and Nunc, and the Anthem, everything, were red, so there I was with a copy of the Responses!
I sang the entire thing from memory and the Choir Master still talked about it even 20 years later until his retirement. Said it was the best Miserere Mei he'd heard in his 40+ year career.
That was probably the only time in my career as a Chorister that I can say I felt the spirit of God working through me. Still gives me chills.
That kid's voice just makes my heart melt and I don't really like choirs...Well, I'm definitely a fan of him and choirs now

It tends toward the female (cristal cold) voice, but still is male (warm).
[this above statement is my subjective feeling only; but feelings are what counts in arts. I even wonder if mechanics can measure this fine difference.]

Fantastic performance! I only recently discovered this channel and I only recently discovered Misere Mei. To see this piece of music being performed by Aksel is a sheer delight! Props also to the other members of the choir for this lovely rendition of Allegri's masterpiece.

How did I miss this? Having enjoyed Aksel's voice in other works, in a piece of music I have often used for relaxation it sounds great, and I've only just found it in 2022!.

Hi, the high "c" isn't due to Mozart but very likely to Sir Ivor Atkins, who - accidentally - rewrote it falsely in 1951 (higher than in the original transcription by Mozart).
i thought that the original was created by an Italian composer named Allegri for the Vatican church and Mozart just transcribed it ( its also believed that he only heard it twice and he transcribed it at a very young age, a true genius) or am i wrong?
That's right. But it has been reviewed serveral times since. And the high "c" appereared in a version of Ivor Atkins in 1951 for the first time. Before (with Mozart) the same note was arranged a quart lower.
ClassicBird 262 i know i wasn't referring to the high c, in the original by Allegri the high c definitely isn't there, i was referring to something else because i had misinterpreted the original comment wrong, I interpreted the comment as if Mozart created the original piece.

one of the best performances I've heard. love the tenor soloist too. The boy treble is exceptional, very powerful, & clear. i hope he still has a singing voice as an adult. Sadly, many excellent boy trebles don't.

+peterpiper704 Thanks from Aksel! Unfortunately it is not on the CD, since that is a recording with Aksel & the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. No choir (though the conductor Nigel Short has an outstanding choir named Tenebrae).

With all due respect choristers, look up. The words and chords would be much tighter if you all followed the conductor. She's waving her arms for a purpose, but it's lost when your faces are all glued to the sheet music.

So right. This rendering drags like hell. But it’s the chorister's fault for not laying down the law at their first practice.
Leaving a Catholic service one Sunday I was stunned when, in front of the whole congregation, the furious nun choirmaster halted a hymn-sing halfway through and shouted to the choir, “When I do this . . . “ and she makes a big diagonal slash with one hand, “. . . It means you STOP SINGING!” I think they got the message.
GpD79: Don't underestimate the power of the human eye. These choristors can read their music and still have the waving arms within their vision. Think about members of an orchestra. They too have sheet music and a conductor to follow.
As for the nun choirmaster/mistress, how unprofessional of her to berate the performers during a performance. (Understandable if it was Whoopi Goldberg).
