"Stay with us, Lord Jesus. It soon is evening and night is falling. Jesus Christ, the world's true light, shines where the darkness cannot overcome it. Let your light pierce the darkness and fill the Church with its glory." AMEN!
Thanks so much for posting this. Egil Hovland died this morning; while the earth is a little darker without his presence, the heavens are more fully resounding. My life is much more meaningful because of music such as this.
WOW WOW WOW!!! I have heard this song sung by many choirs, first by St Olaf at Christmas time just a few years ago, but I have NEVER heard it done totally acapella. I was blown away by the way the choir hummed the melody at the end to complete the song. I got a good case of goosebumps when I heard their ending of humming. What an awesome song, what an awesome presentation of this song. May we invite JESUS to 'stay with us' in our hearts forever. Thanks ever so much for sharing. GOD BLESS
Well, here it is, eight years later, and I am just discovering this precious piece of music, sung with incredible feeling by a glorious choir in a fine reverberant room. Who could want anything more? Thanks, David Cherwien and all of your singers!
"stay w/ us" very nice, but would have been better in tune---shame on the sops near the ending, but, again, you have many good pieces on the disc. lutheran choirs are unusually good and impressive.
I don’t think Jesus thought it was out of tune. Otherwise he probably would have left, but he decided to stay with us for the tater tot hot dish casserole. (A Lutheran delicacy)

Angelic voices, incredible harmonies, and masterful direction by Mr. Cherwien.
A beautiful performance!

Simple, moving, and filled with some of the very first words spoken to the Resurrected Jesus.
My choir sang this last year and we're singing it again and will be using it as our closing after each rehearsal...such a beautiful piece of music...
Such a moving piece! Sung at just the right tempo! Love it!
How absolutely lovely. By far, one of the best renditions I have heard.
Best presentation i have heard so far.

Thank you also Evil Hovland
Just beautiful. A great presentation of choral music.
Almost makes me want to be Lutheran.
So beautiful
Requiescat in pace, Egil Hovland (1924-2013).
beautiful
Does it get more beautiful than this?
Beautiful post indeed!
Awesome
We just have to keep singing! Living in eastern Pennsylvania choirs are just a joke. I LONG for the glories of Midwest Lutheran music!
Ah yes, Minnesota... Great choir country!
Is this on a cd?
