hi! so i am a senior in high school so confused on everything and this video really helped but my question is can i go to community college and take my pre req classes then transfer to an accredited program and if so what can i major in community college if the ones near me don’t have any sonography related majors? thanks!
yes! you can do that, just make sure your classes will transfer to the sonography program of your choice. you can usually just take pre-req classes like sciences, maths, and English.. and then transfer them over. can you go in as a science major or undeclared?
my gosh, im gonna be a senior and high school this coming year and I'm genuinely so overwhelmed. i have never seriously thought about my career but i always knew i wanted to be in the medical field. I've come to the conclusion that i want to be an ultrasound tech, I'm so confused by everything I'm researching about. its a lot of information to take in, i hope i can actually do it. thank you so much for this video!
you can do it - with lots of research ! I've got a new video coming out that will be very helpful, stay tuned - it features "jmaesono" in it! Also, you can search my other video which is geared towards high school graduates!
$300 boards🤑?!? My goodness! How do struggling students usually pay that👩🏾🎓🤦🏾♀️🤷🏽♀️? Guess I’ll be donating plasma for the next few months. lol. Loved the video. Thanks again Geselle!
Cassandra Bias yeah isn’t it crazy 😭 even if you take Edelman seminars that is an extra $250+!!! But it’s all worth it in the end I promise! Haha. Who knows really, we all do our best to try to make ends meet. I’m glad you enjoyed thank you so much for watching! 🤍✨
Hii first of all tysm for making videos like these it helps me so much. I have a few questions: 1. I was just wondering if there's a program you know of in Canada that you only need 2 years for? 2. Is the physics you take in college easier or harder? (or the same)
Hi Brooklyn thanks so much for watching!!! I'm not sure about Canada requirements but you can check out Sonographer Lexie on instagram as she is in Canada and has a whole book on amazon on how to start your ultrasound journey! The physics in college tends to be much harder than the ultrasound physics. But everyone is different. Just study hard, pay attention, and ask questions and you can get through it!
Hi! Im looking into how to work my way into this career. My questions are: * What is required to be accepted into sonography programs? Is it a lottery system and does it go by test scores? How long before you can reapply to the program if not accepted? *Can you enter this field with no prior medical field experience? Thank you!
Hey! Good luck on your journey and thanks for watching this video! It’s so possible to become a sonographer. 1. All programs are different. Some have lottery. Some go by grades and interviews. Others have wait lists. You’ll have to ask each one individually the requirements and how to get in. 2. You can usually reapply each application process. Usually they’re once a year for most programs. I’ve seen some who may take twice a year, again all dependent on each program, if you don’t get in the first time you can always see if another program will accept you with your prereqs. Many students don’t get in on their first try, they will either switch schools/programs or reapply the next time around. 3. Yes you can. Many people I know who are now sonographers had no prior medical background history. It’s all about your determination and drive to join this field. Hope these help! Start by looking at individual schools near you and what they require. Then branch out if needed. CAAHEP.org is a helpful tool. Good luck!
How important is it to remember everything from prerequisites such as anatomy, physiology and general physics class? I've taken the prerequisites and want to apply to sonography programs, but I am nervous that I won't remember anything from my prerequisites. If I get into a sonography program, will I have a hard time passing if I don't remember all of the anatomy and physics?
Sonography programs are truly driven by anatomy, physiology, and physics. While those classes are stepping stones, you should be okay in sonography programs as they just go into more depth with regards to being related to ultrasound. It is definitely easier said than done, but don't be afraid and just brush up on your anatomy!
Hello, Geselle Your videos are fantastic, and I've been learning a lot from them about what I want to do. Do you have any knowledge about neonatal neurosonography? Can you create a video that explains this type of sonography?
I want to do it but it feels impossible. How am I supposed to go to school & not be able to work? I don’t have anyone to take care of me. Most programs I’ve looked into require you to be in school full time + clinical
Hi hun. Only you know your situation. Many people go through school while working. If you need to have full time and clinical, see when their clinical times are. You might need to just find a program that has clinical separate from school. I worked while I was a student, many people make it work. You just have to find a program that fits you best and the job that understands your priorities as well.
Hi I wanted to become a sonographer, and I was just wondering if I go to a community college that is unaccredited for the CAAHEP, but do all my pre classes for sonography, and get my associates of science, then transfer to a program accredited for the CAAHEP, would that be the best course of action with using the least amount of money
Hi hun!! I have other videos that can help you with this. But anatomy, physiology, chemistry, physics, and math are some important pre reqs. Major in something with “ultrasound” so either comprehensive medical imaging, sonography, ultrasound technology, radiology with concentration in ultrasound. Just make sure it’s an ultrasound program!
are there any online general sonography course, certificates, or programs? Can you explain your exact in becoming a sonographer? I know you took comprehensive medical imaging at UNLV but what other schooling did you do after that? or did you go to hospitals or clinical sites and then start taking board exams at that point?
There are a few online programs that people have told me about but you'd have to do some extensive research on that. I had no other schooling after my bachelors to become a sonographer. Essentially you go to a program and pass, go to clinicals, get your registry/ies, and then apply for a job.
Hi Geselle! New follower ☺️👋 What video editor do you use? I have a class that’s requiring me to post a video 😭😭😭 Thank you in advance! Love your videos ! Thank you for what u do!
Nicky V hererroooo!!! Welcome to da SonoGes fam! I use iMovie hehe, I’m a basic beginner lol. But I’m a plain person in general so.. 🤷🏽♀️ iMovie is pretty easy to use! What’s your class about? Thanks for the support and PAWSitivity and somehow stumbling onto my channel! Would love to have you around more, don’t be a stranger!!
@@lolgeselle your not the first person who told me to use iMovie! I didn’t even kno it came w iPhone. I need to make a video for a class called crossing borders/immigration. I’m over here watching tutorials feeling super old! Haha! Thank you for the advice! Love all ur posts !
Nicky V hahah don’t feel old!!! Technology and editing is crrraazzyyyy hard in general... LOL. That’s pretty cool! Good luck on that video! 😍 I bet there’s UA-cam videos out there if ya know what I meeeean 🤪 thanks for being here!
I’m a brand new license nurse but I want to go back to school for ultrasound but I’m scared lmao. I only need 2 pre-reqs classes to apply for program and I’m scared of failure. I think I have Ptsd from nursing school that it scares me to go back to school again
Don't be scared! If you put your mind to it, you can do it. Just imagine, when you apply there are so many more doors that open. Plus, there's so many schools out there you can apply to! If I was afraid of failure, I wouldn't be where I am today. You've got this!
Subscribed! Thank you for the tips! This was a great video!! I was wondering if most people that got into the program have straight As? I am doing my prerequisites right now and got my first B (anatomy) and I’m worried it will greatly affect my application. 😬
Hi Colleen! Thanks for watching!! I would say ultrasound is very competitive. But definitely do all that you can to impress the program! For example if they have an interview process maybe you can explain to them why you got a B. Good luck and don't stress to much, a B is just as great!
Thank you for your video, it is really helpful! I have been working as a sonographer in China for about 10 years, I’m a researcher in the US now, I passed the exams of RDMS and got certificates, do you think it possible for me to find a job here? Do I have to attend the ultrasound program in the US?
hello Rebecca I have plenty of videos on a diagnostic medical sonographer -- it is someone who does ultrasound but in a clinical setting for diagnosing patients -- you can work with pediatrics if you work in a children's hospital :) check out my "ultrasound" video playlist!
What job do you think I should work? Because I will be on a 2 year waitlist and I want a job that will give me experience and help me with patient interaction. Did you have a medical background before ultrasound school?
Ah I see! Definitely do transporting in a hospital, or work as a scribe to an ER doctor. Also working as a front desk receptionist could help. Definitely see if you can volunteer too!
@@lolgeselle OK that sounds great because right now I’m in the CNA program because it’s required for a lot of schools it’s not required for mine but I felt like it would help me but I don’t really know if I want to work as one every day because the job is very physically demanding and it’s just dirty work. But I’ll have to look in the medical scribe I thought about that before thank you so much!
im really confused, is this job a trade, or is it college required? people said it was a trade but it seems like it requires a lot of college to be a trade lol
It’s becoming more and more college required. But you can do associates or bachelors. If you already have credits or a degree it is possible to get a certification.
Hey, thanks for your helpful video, just curious, how much will be the pay range to the best of your knowledge? Especially the entry level please? Thanks.
What do you think about work experience required to get hired after a program? Do you think internships and clinicals done throughout the program suffice?
Yes, those would be enough especially if you network and get a job through connections. However, if you don't network, you may have a hard time depending on where you live or the area you look for work.
Hi!! Not heavily. Mostly physics but ultrasound physics. I believe if you listen to our recent podcast episode -- Sonographers in the Cities Episode 65 -- we talk about what classes you need!
Hello, I am very interested in this career. If I have a bachelor's in Public Health, would I still have to take pre-reqs? Or would that depend on the program? Thank you for your informative video!
Can I ask how much of the time do you spend sitting during your shift? Just curious because I would love to go either route of ultrasound but I’ve developed some foot problems, I get around fine, but just trying to get an idea of what I’m in for. Thanks!
I spend about 75% standing and 25% sitting. I sit in between patients when writing my cases up or when taking a break. I barely sit while scanning. Some people like to sit while scanning, so it's up to you and the place you work at!
Very helpful video! Can one skip the school and program, and directly take exams and get ardms certification and become a sonographer? My friend graduated from medical school and is a doctor in another country, but her major and work is GYN, not ultrasound. She wonders whether she can directly take ardms exams and become a sonographer without going to school again.
hello! there's different types so you have to check the program but usually it's under: radiology, ultrasound, diagnostic medical imaging, sonography, or comprehensive medical imaging -- I highly suggest speaking to an advisor or counselor
So you cant do echo? I thought general is for everything. Please help! Share with me. I want to do echo, abd, carotid, tcd, maybe thyroid. What track to take!?
Hi! I do not do echo. General does not include echo. If you want to do everything, you have to find a program that offers everything (which is rare but there are a few) or your best bet is to go into “general” track and THEN cross train into echo! Hope this helps!
Did you get your applied degree in radiologic technology and then do a certification program for sonography? Or did you do your degree in something else?
You said make sure they’re accredited but to what? Is it important if they must be CAAHEP accredited? The program I was considering said they give us a certificate and covers one portion of the ARDMS test which was physics. They require me to do MA externship of 180 hours but idk if that’s enough to take the board exams. Please help 🙏🏼
The best school to choose is usually a CAAHEP accredited school however you don't need to always go to CAAHEP to register for ARDMS. Go to ARDMS.org and read the pre-requisites to take the board exams to see which one you can qualify for!
How can a echo tech with 3 years of experience from philippines or other countries can go to the USA and work as a echo tech.? Do we need to take a exam. What exam is it.
Hi! I would look up ARDMS.org and try to reach out to companies to see what their requirements are! Maybe find a traveling tech company on linkedin or indeed.
hi, will i have to go to a separate dms program if the college already has one? so like would i be able to take pre reqs & do the program at the same time?
if the college has the dms program, you ask them what the requirements are to get in - you would most likely have to do pre-reqs then apply to the program.
If you want to go into OB/GYN, you still have to learn general sonography which includes abdomen and small parts... but when you graduate you find an OB/GYN place to work at and also take the OB/GYN board exam.
Hi, I just subscribed to your channel. I have a question and I want to go in the general sonogram route. So I am choosing a school and I am stump on the 2 types of program 1. ASSOCIATE OF SCIENCE IN Diagnostic Medical Sonography and 2. BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN Health Science with a Concentration in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. If you were me and you want to go in the general sonogram route which would you choose.
Hi! You need to ask them which one is "general" and if they offer you general for both the associates or bachelors, then either is fine. If you plan on going into higher management, bachelors is better. But if you want to only scan and just stay as a tech instead of going into a higher position, the associates degree is just fine.
It took me a few months after scanning in clinical to really know that this was what I wanted to do! It takes time, it really is a unique skill and job to have.
Hi I’m been considering this career path. There’s a community college here in California called Cypress college. It has an associate degree program and a certificate program. They are both specifically for Diagnostic medical Sonography. If I were to take both do you believe that will be enough to become an ultrasound technician? Of course passing the board exam after. But do you think that would be a good educational path for this career ?
Hello! No matter which way you go, certificate or associate, you will be able to get a career as long as you do the board exams and get registered you should be fine :) Talk to someone who has been to Cypress and see what they say!
So the schools near me don't have sonography programs. It does have nursing and rad tech programs, so would I be able to take one of these and then take the rmds exams?
If you do those programs, you'd have to go back to get a certificate from an ultrasound program before sitting for ARDMS. You can look at the pre-reqs at ARDMS.org. It's better to go to a CAAHEP.org school for sonography right away if you know that's what you want to do. :)
heyy so i’m a freshman in highschool and ever sense I was little i always wanted to be a nurse but in 7th grade I’ve decided i wanted to either become a sonographer or an ob/gyn that focuses on obstetrician my question is what courses do you have to take to become a sonographer !!
Hi!! Good luck! Come join our discord group!! You’ll have to take medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, probably some math and English, physics, possibly chemistry, and all the ultrasound focused classes!
Hey! So I’ve been looking into sonography and I don’t want to keep changing my major in college but I’m majoring in Sociology. Would that be okay? I’m taking basic English classes, math, and biology but not anatomy
It depends!! Does your college have "sonography" or "medical imaging" or "radiology" as a major? Sociology is not quite the correct major to have to become a sonographer however if you decide to go to a certificate school that would be later on after you finish your sociology degree. I suggest looking at schools with a sonography degree. CAAHEP.org can help you with that or perhaps speak with an advising counselor at your school! You will need anatomy for sure.
Hello. If you're in medical imaging, you have to make sure you are taking the appropriate sonography classes. If they don't offer it, you may need to go to a sonography certificate program.
Sarah Broussard I used the green ultrasound physics book by Edelman! Seriously Edelman is the best! Back then I didn’t even use anything but that. Physics doesn’t change so any edition should be okay, but try to find the latest if possible. Understand the concepts. When you study explain it to someone else so you know eBay you’re talking about. 🙂 It also helps if you use the machine and think about what it’s doing while scanning and understand the mechanics and put the two together. Hope this helps!
Thanks for your videos. I have a question. I want to join the sonography school. I want to do only Ob/Gyn USG and further specialization in MFM or high risk obstetrics USG. After I complete the general sonographer program, where can I find programs for OB/GYN and afterwards for Materno fetal ultrasound? I have been searching online and I have only found the programs that you mentioned, the general, cardiac etc. But I am not clear how to further specialize in both OBGYN and MFM. Thanks.
Hi! In order to do MFM, you will need to just train in office. I suggest after going the general / OBGYN route, find a job at an OBGYN doctor's office and eventually get experience so that you can work at a MFM office :) hope this helps, good luck !
im majoring in psychology in community college, would that work? and then i plan on transfering to UC david os SD would i be able to take sonography pre-requisites and still have a psych major? i heard you can major in anything but just have to take pre-requisites? and my community college doesnt have medical terminology and anatomy like that so would i just do those after transfering?
You have to talk to the schools to find out the information however CAAHEP.org shows a list of accredited sonography programs and ARDMS.org shows you what the prereqs are to take the board exams. You can have a bachelors in any major however you have to have the clinical experience to apply. Check out the Prerequisites 3A and 3B on the ARDMS.org websites
Hi!! I have a question Can i apply for a sonography program using the prereqs I did in high school? Or should i take the same subjects again but in a higher education (community college) before applying for the program?
@@lolgeselle so when I apply to the college I should pick the pre reqs needed for sonography as my regular classes? If so how long after should I apply to the program ?
Did you get paid while doing clinicals ? I'm assuming you didn't get paid for lab, as it is college. But if you DIDN'T get paid for clinicals, how did you support yourself? Thanks 😁
Hey ! I would love to become an Ultrasound Technician. I am currently in college majoring in General studies as of right now because I was unsure about what I was going to major in. After I graduate from this community college, I would like to go to a University but it is not accredited. Is it possible that I can go about this career with majoring in Radiologic sciences?
If sonography falls into radiologic sciences in your school, you may be able to. However, this specific question should be asked to a program advisor/ mentor for your specific school as each school is different.
Hi :) i have no experience in healthcare bc I have a degree in marketing but now I'm interested in becoming a sonographer... the program I'd like to go to requires 2 years of direct patient care to apply... do you have advice on what I could do ?
Hi there! Congrats on your degree. Since you have to have direct patient care, I recommend patient care tech, phlebotomy, MA, EKG, or nursing aide or CNA. I wonder if front desk / assistants would count too.
Kiana Love the only way that can happen is if your high school will offer that! If you’re able to take college courses while in high school I highly recommend that just make sure the college program you go to will accept those credits/ classes. Make sure they are transferable. Cause a lot of times people end up wasting money or they go to a school where credits don’t apply so you have to take whatever they say. For example, at my college we had to take a political science class but I had taken a college course class in high school which transferred so I didn’t have to take that in college 🙂 so do your research ahead of time! See what classes your college program needs and then see if your high school offers, just make sure they do transfer. I suggest talking to an advisor or counselor for both your high school and college. Hope this helps!
Every program requires different things. Some require CNA or medical background/ experience. Others require an associates. But many programs do not require much except for the pre-reqs and GPA requirements!
Hi! I want to be an ultrasound tech but my college does not have a program for sonography. Is it possible for me to major in nursing and get a bachelors degree then after go to a certification school ?
Hi Emily! Yes this is possible, you can have a bachelors in anything (to sit for ARDMS board exam) but will still need to do a sonography program to get credential eligible! Just look at certificate schools, many of these are cardiac but I'd say do some research before deciding and make a plan! :)
hi geselle! I’m having such a hard time choosing between majors lol but I feel like I’ll enjoy this job! However, do you know if being a sonographer can correlate to a risk for cancer in some way? I know that some are exposed to radiation but not all sonographers can be... What’s your advice?
No risk for cancer, the job itself. You will be tired though, it is a busy demanding career. You may also injure yourself so you have to be very careful when scanning and understand how your body is feeling! It's a great field!
@@lolgeselle hey I’m interested also in becoming an ultrasound tech what do u mean injure yourself lol ? And is there a lot of blood in this field I’m not good with blood
Heyy I’m in high school but I want to be a sonographer for college if I major in physiology and minor in physics would that be enough to be a sonographer or should I look into a different major?
Hi! Those are great majors however you'd need to find a program that offers "sonography major" or "diagnostic medical sonography" or "ultrasound technologist" or "radiology" -- CAAHEP.org can help you narrow down accredited schools!
Hi thanks for your useful videos, I am 42 years old and I have bachelor degree in business Recently I got pr residency of Canada and soon, I will move to Saskatoon, do u think is there any chance for me to start general sonography? Should I start whit school or college or post graduate? I really confused And in a case I finish the program is there any opportunity for my age to get job? Because after I will Finish, I almost 45 🥴🥴
Hello!! Definitely look at the requirements that are in Canada! They will help you decide what school to go to and where to go from there. If it's something you want to do for the next 5-10 years still I think you'll be fine!
Hi! LOVE THE VIDEO!!💕 I’m currently a senior in high school and I’m planning on studying to become a general ultrasound technologist because I think it’s a pretty awesome job! However, the college I’m going to doesn’t have a program and doesn’t offer an associates degree in ultrasound technology:( Is there any other pathway I can take?
Hi Adriana!! Thanks for taking the time to watch this video!! I have a video specifically for high school students!! Hopefully you can check that out. There are other routes and pathways. You have to look for a school or program that offers sonography if you don't have a bachelors degree in something else. Definitely do some more research and use CAAHEP.org to help you! If you need to move/ go out of state that might have to be an option.
CBD is expensive but they do produce sonographers. Definitely use CAAHEP.org to help you or post in Facebook groups to ask for other help depending on the city you plan on living in/ wanting to go to school in.
I chose ultrasound because I like that it is operator dependent and depends on me. I like being with patients for a little amount of time instead of a long period of time. It's a great job to have one on one patient care.
Hi! Plz answer me it’s urgent! I am really interested in doing USG tech course but I have a newborn baby to take care of and don’t also have a ride yet! CAN I DO THE ASSOCIATES IN USG ONLINE ? I AM BASED IN Mi AND JACKSON COLLEGE HERE OFFERS THE COURSE ONLINE. DO U THINK ITS A GOOD IDEA TO JOIN ONLINE ?
Hello, I'm not too sure about the college you are talking about but I have heard of an online school. It depends on the reputation of the school so I would look into that school for more details or try to find someone who went there.
hey , im very late , im going to college for medical assistant to get an associates degree its a 2 yr class , im trying to become an ultrasound technician will this associates degree be useful for ultrasound technician , Need help !!!
It can be helpful if the program requires another associates degree or medical profession to enter, otherwise you don't need to get a MA degree in order to do ultrasound. It depends on the school you go to so you'll need to do research in order to find out if it will be helpful or not. :)
@@lolgeselle the school that i go to after the associates degree says i need a medical assistant or health and sciences to do their program for ultrasound so i think im good , Thank you !
Hi! Board exams are the exams ultrasound students must take to gain their credentials or the letters after their name. It is similar to a nurse setting their NCLEX but sonographers have more than one exam. First you must take the SPI board exam (which is physics) for any type of ultrasound track (echo, general, vascular). Then in order to take a specialty board exam (abdomen, vascular, echo, pediatrics, etc) you must get a clinical verification form to take each exam (yes there is more than one) to get the letters RDMS after your name. Each exam ranges about $250. Hope this helps!
I have my licensed in philippines as a radiographer. Do i need to get licensure in medical imaging to study sonoraphy? Pls ans this . Ive been planning to study abroad but the agency give me a program or courses that its not related to radiography although they give me a medical related course but its not radiography. Pls enlighten me with this. Pls please please
Hi Kriz Zy! I’m glad you are a licensed radiographer. In the USA, you have to find a radiology / radiography program to do xray. I’m not sure if you can just apply for a job with your license since you already have one. Radiographer is different than a sonographer.
@@lolgeselle i am s sonographer , ct scan technologist and xray . I already contacted CAMRT in canada. I have to take exam . Before that they will asess my credential if i am qualified to take exams. But i have to pay 300Cad for assessment not refundable. Theyre offrering exams international in qatar and dubai for outside takers. I really wanted to take sonography course. Planning to be an international student .
if your school offers you to sit for the ARDMS board exam after you take ultrasound physics, then you should be able to get a job :) make sure you ask your school about the process and how it works!
Belinda Saunders OBGYN will usually fall under general ultrasound in most schools. You usually will have to do general route and then specialize in OB. In my state, for example, they make you learn everything in general, but if you enjoy the OB route you do your clinical hours at a high risk OB site.
Belinda Saunders do you know of any specific specializing OB ultrasound schools? I’d love to know them so we can help others do that if that’s an option! 😍
And the “boards” are $250 not 300...also SPI does not give you anything (just something everyone has to take)..you have to take a specific specialty after that to be considered registered.
Belinda Saunders some specially board exams are more expensive than $250, hence why I just kinda threw out a number and rounded up to $300. They need to know how much they may need to spend. Thank you for your input and for watching Belinda :) you are a great help to everyone here.
Belinda Saunders I do explain that you must need to have a “specialized” registry to work at different places. But we, as techs, know each place is different. For example, most hospitals require “RVT”. Some places require “Abdomen only.” And most OBGYN require “OB.” But SPI is the first step they need to take to take the other specialty registries. ☺️ I’m over in the west coast so I know what I was taught from out here! Where are you located?

Good luck!
So interesting 🤔. My background is nurse. I really want to become Sonography or Echo technologies, too!
I hope you do, it's an amazing field! And I love that you are a nurse. Thank you for all that you do!
Very informative!!!
Michael Rufin thank you so much! Trying to help others as much as I can! 🥰
Hello, Geselle Your videos are fantastic, and I've been learning a lot from them about what I want to do. Do you have any knowledge about neonatal neurosonography? Can you create a video that explains this type of sonography?
Yes I do! I will get right on that for you. Thank you so much for watching!!! :)
I definitely encourage anyone watching this to immediately subscribe to this channel!
you are THE BEST!!!!! thank you for your support!!
That is a possible route, you'll need to talk to program advisors for the best advice as it depends on the schools you go to.
GREAT VIDEO :] I wanna join the team Nowwww
Gary Agunos I want you on my team!😍
Great video 🙏
Elizabeth Arcilla thank you for watching 😍🥰
what pre reqs should be taken for college? what do you have to major in? do we have to major in the medical field ?
Essentially you go to a program and pass, go to clinicals, get your registry/ies, and then apply for a job.
hello! how long does this whole process typically take after you have a bachelor's degree already?@@lolgeselle
Hi Geselle! New follower ☺️👋
What video editor do you use?
I have a class that’s requiring me to post a video 😭😭😭 Thank you in advance!
Love your videos ! Thank you for what u do!
Nicky V hererroooo!!! Welcome to da SonoGes fam! I use iMovie hehe, I’m a basic beginner lol. But I’m a plain person in general so.. 🤷🏽♀️ iMovie is pretty easy to use! What’s your class about?

@@lolgeselle Thank you so much!! 😊
Thank you for your video, it is really helpful! I have been working as a sonographer in China for about 10 years, I’m a researcher in the US now, I passed the exams of RDMS and got certificates, do you think it possible for me to find a job here? Do I have to attend the ultrasound program in the US?
That's awesome that you have so much experience! I say just apply to as many places as you can especially if you have RDMS. :)
@@lolgeselle Thank you!
Hey so what is a diagnostic medical sonographer ? What can I do with that type of degree ? Can I work with pediatrics ?
hello Rebecca I have plenty of videos on a diagnostic medical sonographer -- it is someone who does ultrasound but in a clinical setting for diagnosing patients -- you can work with pediatrics if you work in a children's hospital :) check out my "ultrasound" video playlist!
I did it have a medical background. I worked in sales, retail, and the food industry lol.
@@cozycrossing267 yes that’s a great one!! Yayyy keep me updated ✨
im really confused, is this job a trade, or is it college required? people said it was a trade but it seems like it requires a lot of college to be a trade lol
It’s becoming more and more college required. But you can do associates or bachelors. If you already have credits or a degree it is possible to get a certification.
Hey, thanks for your helpful video, just curious, how much will be the pay range to the best of your knowledge? Especially the entry level please? Thanks.
They range anywhere starting from $25-33 depending on city and state!
What do you think about work experience required to get hired after a program? Do you think internships and clinicals done throughout the program suffice?
Yes, those would be enough especially if you network and get a job through connections. However, if you don't network, you may have a hard time depending on where you live or the area you look for work.
My only question is, is there a lot of math and science involved? (Ik there’s science involved but I mean like HEAVILY)
Hi Arlene! Welcome!! It depends on the program, see if your pre-reqs will transfer over :) Thanks for watching!
Thanks for your considerate response!
anytime!
Yes! Just go to ARDMS.org and see what pre-reqs your friend falls under!
Hi gisselle. Question: if i have an associates in science, what do i need to do next to become general sonographer? TIA🥰🥰
Hi!! You'll need to apply to a sonography program or certificate program! Go to CAAHEP.org to help you search! :)
Hey I’m a senior in high school and I wanted to know what to major in in college to become a ultrasound tech
hello! there's different types so you have to check the program but usually it's under: radiology, ultrasound, diagnostic medical imaging, sonography, or comprehensive medical imaging -- I highly suggest speaking to an advisor or counselor
Hope this helps!
what school did you go to/ program did you do? It would be really helpful to know, thank you so much for your guidance!!!
I went to UNLV - Comprehensive Medical Imaging. :) Thanks for watching!
@@lolgeselle thank you!!!
Did you get your applied degree in radiologic technology and then do a certification program for sonography? Or did you do your degree in something else?
I did my degree in ultrasound !
Maybe find a traveling tech company on linkedin or indeed.
hi, will i have to go to a separate dms program if the college already has one? so like would i be able to take pre reqs & do the program at the same time?
if the college has the dms program, you ask them what the requirements are to get in - you would most likely have to do pre-reqs then apply to the program.
in order to become an Obstetric ultrasound teach do you have to study all different types of ultrasound or just that specific topic/filed you picked?
If you want to go into OB/GYN, you still have to learn general sonography which includes abdomen and small parts... but when you graduate you find an OB/GYN place to work at and also take the OB/GYN board exam.
Hi, I just subscribed to your channel. I have a question and I want to go in the general sonogram route. So I am choosing a school and I am stump on the 2 types of program 1. ASSOCIATE OF SCIENCE IN
Diagnostic Medical Sonography and 2. BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN
Health Science with a Concentration in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
@@lolgeselle thank you
How long did it take you from realizing this was what you wanted to do to having your first job as an ultrasound tech?
It took me a few months after scanning in clinical to really know that this was what I wanted to do! It takes time, it really is a unique skill and job to have.
Hi I’m been considering this career path. There’s a community college here in California called Cypress college. It has an associate degree program and a certificate program. They are both specifically for Diagnostic medical Sonography. If I were to take both do you believe that will be enough to become an ultrasound technician? Of course passing the board exam after. But do you think that would be a good educational path for this career ?
Hello! No matter which way you go, certificate or associate, you will be able to get a career as long as you do the board exams and get registered you should be fine :) Talk to someone who has been to Cypress and see what they say!
are you taking the program there? how is it so far? I wanna take it too
So the schools near me don't have sonography programs.
thanks for this info. love the lighting and lights behind you in this, very subtle and calming to watch :)
Aw, thank you so much for watching! I appreciate you listening and supporting the channel!
heyy so i’m a freshman in highschool and ever sense I was little i always wanted to be a nurse but in 7th grade I’ve decided i wanted to either become a sonographer or an ob/gyn that focuses on obstetrician my question is what courses do you have to take to become a sonographer !!
Hi!!
Is it required to go to college to become a sonogropher? Or is a high school diploma enough?
yes, you must have a higher education degree like associates or bachelors.
Was school hard for you? i’m bad at math, science and bad memory
School can be difficult. Every school has a different math requirement, with practice and studying daily you can do it if you really try ✨
I can relate to this comment
Hi! I've been going to do bachelors in Medical imaging technology. How can I become sonographer then?
Hello. If you're in medical imaging, you have to make sure you are taking the appropriate sonography classes. If they don't offer it, you may need to go to a sonography certificate program.
What did you use to study for the SPI?

Hi!! I have a question
Can i apply for a sonography program using the prereqs I did in high school? Or should i take the same subjects again but in a higher education (community college) before applying for the program?
You will need to typically have a community college level of re-reqs for a majority of programs.
@@lolgeselle so when I apply to the college I should pick the pre reqs needed for sonography as my regular classes? If so how long after should I apply to the program ?
I work 40-50 hours, will I be able to do both
That's a lot of hours you're working. It depends on what school you go to, but a sonography program is like a full-time job as well.
Did you get paid while doing clinicals ? I'm assuming you didn't get paid for lab, as it is college. But if you DIDN'T get paid for clinicals, how did you support yourself? Thanks 😁
Hi! I did not get paid for clinical. I worked smaller jobs like as a hostess, or server, or in a cafe. Whatever worked with my schedule!
Thanks for the reply ! Best of luck to you !
Hey how ya doing can you please tell me in total how many years does to take to become a Sonographer
Hi there! Depends on what school or route you end up taking- can be anywhere from 2-5/6 years.
@@lolgeselle thank u :)
Hi I have a question can you take your pre reqs class in high-school?
Do you think sonographers or any radiologic technologists cannot be unemployed? I mean that they will always have a job and make money?
The radiology career is a great field. Anything medical will be in good luck for many years to come.
@@lolgeselle oh and i have another question, can i specialize sonography with a radiologic technology degree?
Hey! Did you not have to have an associates degree in a related field before applying for the dms program? I hope you see this and can reply asap! 🙂

I m Pcb student can I be sonographer?
what's a PCB student?
Do you have to be a fulltiime student to be in the program?
It depends on the program :) I would say majority of the time people decide if they want to be full time or part time.

Which math prereq is required ?
Depends on the school - CAAHEP.org - ask and find out with the school's catalogs.

What are board exams?

www.ardms.org/get-certified/rdms/ check out this website to see what specialties fall under each credential 😊
@@emomonkay you're awesome thanks for sharing this useful link!!!
