Gozer the Traveler. He will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldrini, the traveler came as a large and moving Torg! Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor! Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!
*quickly blurts out "YES!!!"* I'm amused how it keeps gates and has a key(master) input, I'd buy this Zuul on the strength of their naming chops alone heheh
I use two or three noise gate simulations in my Line 6 Helix, both before and after the preamp section. I never thought a fully analog rig would ever be able to achieve digital tightness with just one unit. This is extremely impressive and wonderful.
Oh hey, I learned something new today! Didn't know a gate in my fx loop would help with the extra amp noise, brb adding gates to all my Helix patches lol
I actually always put mine in the FX loop (having only one). You can make up for the "input tightness" a little with proper muting, you can't do ANYTHING about that infuriating amp noise.
Helix is great, just add a noise gate before the amp and the beginning of your fx loop for ultimate quiet. No messing with cables or buying extra pedals either! Just make sure it's the hard gate you're using.
This Demo of the zuul is probably the best out there. Only here I really understood how the key-input works and where to get a signal for it. Every other video also did not put the gain over 9000. Thanks ola!
Didn't the Boss NS2 can do this since years ? It have a key input like the Zuul but with the appropriate output so you don't need the extra output of the tuner or whatever. Just place the pedal chain with the preamp in the NS2 loop and there you go.
Yeah but the NS2 isn't really suitable for the effects loop, it changes the tone quite a bit. There's also the ISP G-String and a ton of other pedals that do this though.
OLA I came way back to see this, because I got interested in noise gates. Extra distortion and all of the gain, and the Zuul handles it. I never wanted a noise gate and now I'm looking at prices - thank you OLA you absolutely fuckin rock. Best noise gate demo ever.
I also have the ****** head, it's sure better than the ****** one, yet I want to try the ****** They say it's like the ******* but it costs less than the *******.
Ola, I just bought this gate, it will be here Saturday. I am really a bass player but I’m now recording guitar. Your videos are very helpful. Thank you and keep up the good work.
I wish you played a long sustained unison bend on high frets... this is the litmus test for noise gates as far as I'm concerned. Gated chugs are easy to get and the key input trick has existed for years, it's been done before... But I am more interested in how would this method work with those long decaying notes and at which point would it chop off the release altogether, or would it not do that. Y'know?
with Randall basically going out of business, and Ola now selling his own guitars, perhaps he should also make signature amps with Fortin and finally release a 50watt Satan head via this new company.
The ISP Decimator G-String II does the same thing, and you don't need anything to split the signal, because it has two full signal paths - one for the sensor, and one for the control. the sensor goes in front, the control goes in the loop. I have one, and I will never use another gate.
Did I notice ground hum when Ola turns guitar volume on at 5:53, 6:04 and 6:07? Strange his Solar guitars would have ground hum unless not soldered cleanly.
Why not the TC Electronics Sentry? That has more features and has editable frequency ranges. Plus it's half the price of this thing. This Zuul is even more expensive than Glen's Cock Blocker that just came out.
All the way back in the 90's I had my Boss stereo gate modified to exactly that - except one of the channels now works as cue/key straight from the guitar without needing an additional output from somewhere else. Seems I should have sold that idea...
Not only this gate has a side chain, Boss NS-2 for example has it too. And you don't need another pedal (like tuner) with second output if you will use NS-2. So Zuul is cool but not "gate of the gates" in my opinion. Love this channel, thank you, Ola.
Hmmm... what a simple yet clever idea, to control the gate from your guitar, but let it kill both stages of gain when gating. Damn you, Ola, that's ANOTHER thing on my ever-expanding "must have when I can afford it" list :O)
The Decimator G string has the "key" built in. Also, sometimes you want two noisegates.. on in front and one in the loop to kill all hiss, because loops like in the 5150 bleed preamp hiss even when clamping the FX loop.
I use the ISP Decimator for the guitar noise and a cheap 25 EUR Noisegate for the preamp noise. Works great, but this pedal is also a great idea. It doesn't cut as smooth as I'd wish it would though
It's WAY smooth, and doesn't color your tone in the slightest. The ISP does to a ridiculous degree. Scott Ian from Anthrax heard ZUUL, and literally ripped 4 ISPs out of his rigs/backups, and went with ZUUL.
Why are noise gate pedals so complicated? I just want one that I can use before or after my pedals in from of the amp or only in the noise gate, not both - I don't want to have a bunch of cables running up and down my amp.
Hey Ola, Thanks for the great and inspiring videos. I'm using some delay and reverb pedals in my effects loop, so I want to know where in the loop chain should I put this noise gate? Greetings from Iran
Awesome video Ola! "Question!" Would there be any advantages to running 2 of these (one in front, another in the loop) without using the key input on either???
I did this with my Boss NS-2 And peavey 5150 years ago! guitar too input, return(amp) too output(pedal), send(amp) too return(pedal), send(pedal) too input(amp).
Awesome...not sure how to use the Key imput though. If I have a tuner, how do I hook it up? Guitar to Tuner. Zuul in loop....Tuner (2nd out) to Zuul key input?
So if I use ridiculous amount of gain in my amp and setup the zuul the way Ola describes and the have the nice gated sound and when I change to clean channel I dont have to fiddle with zuul knob and it doesn't gate clean channel too much so it wont cut my cleans off? As it reacts to my guitar signal? (currently using NS2 in front and mooer noise gate copy in loop and that cut my cleans badly if I dont switch them off)
I'm confused, do I need to have a separate pedal with 2 outputs to get the noise gate to work at it's best? If so, are there noise gates that don't need that so I don't have to buy an extra pedal?
I have a question : If your switch to a clean or a crunch channel did the zuul eat the signal of the guitar ? Like if you play softer.. Did we must turn it off
Hello Ola. This is a very important question. Your answer could have a profound effect on my financial well being. Is your amp stock? Or, has Fortin been inside of it? Or, did Fortin build the thing himself? Please respond as soon as you can.
First of all sorry for my english, i have a question about the settings on my amplifier, my booster pedal and delay are always on in my fx loop, and I just want to turn them on when I'm playing solos, I activate this option pressing my footswitch effects, and if I want to play rhythm guitar I turn it down. When I activate the zuul to reduce the noise "it ruins" my setting preferences on the fx loop because if i want to reduce noise i have to turn my fx on. The point is what is the best option if I want to activate the boost and the delay effect just with one button? i was wondering if it was a good solution by connecting a loop pedal between the zuul out and amp return, thanks.
I paid 37.00 on amazon for this new Chinese made Noise gate & its incredible. No tonal change, just filters the hiss noise. Was gonna buy a Decimator as Ive had it before, Glad I bought this one for better than half the price. Best China made product Ive ever had.
Caline is the brand. Ive done 3 gigs with it so far, very satisfied with it. Does nothing special, except cut out that background hiss coming from my pedals. which is great
I just love your insanity. You are great! But how do you manage to do so many things and in the same time be an amazing father as well? Whars the key? Cheers from Bulgaria
The unprofessionalism in this video is uncanny....i love it.
"I am the NoiseGateKeeper."
"I am the KeyInputMaster."
Turns out this is an awesome demo. Super clear explanation and a great demonstration.
"Put the gay in front of the amp"...
That's where the gay is best :)
How dirty is the gay? And if they're very dirty, are they hi-gains?
literally first saw this comment while Ola was saying it
6:12
Some gays go in front, others in the back. You must experiment yourself to see where your gay works best, you might be surprised...
I think you are the first "demo'er" of this pedal to actually show it properly connected! Great vid as usual... keep rockin' Ola!
Gozer the Traveler. He will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldrini, the traveler came as a large and moving Torg! mhm, so this is how his videos look like unedited
need more
w-what
NANIIII?!
@@jsullivan2112 oh wow how perceptive you are to know that but not able to understand it's not literal.
The Skwisgaar is strong with you in this video
"That's too much... Lets Try even more"
Oh hey, I learned something new today! Didn't know a gate in my fx loop would help with the extra amp noise, brb adding gates to all my Helix patches lol

Yes, it does this. It also raises the mids and cuts the high end if used in the loop. It works ok in front of the amp.
Yeah but the NS2 isn't really suitable for the effects loop, it changes the tone quite a bit. There's also the ISP G-String and a ton of other pedals that do this though.
They all change the tone. Only the ZUUL is transparent.
That's a very blanket statement to make. I'm sceptical.
I doubt the isp changes the tone
OLA I came way back to see this, because I got interested in noise gates.
Extra distortion and all of the gain, and the Zuul handles it. I never wanted a noise gate and now I'm looking at prices - thank you OLA you absolutely fuckin rock. Best noise gate demo ever.
Glad you posted this so people know everybody has less than stellar days and we're all human.
Except Zuul, of course.
I also have the ****** head, it's sure better than the ****** one, yet I want to try the ******
They say it's like the ******* but it costs less than the *******.
Cristianairte ma ti trovo pure sotto i video di Ola lol
Ola, I just bought this gate, it will be here Saturday. I am really a bass player but I’m now recording guitar. Your videos are very helpful. Thank you and keep up the good work.
Loved every detail in this review, even the creaking chair.
The p1 really brings back the memories
Great job Mike!
You always impress.
Thank you!
Hey Ola because of you I bought the Randall RD100 Diavlo and it's the best amp i've ever had thank you for your videos and reviews
7:05
I love that you seems genuinly surprised by the good results! Gotta love honest videoes! Love from Norway!
"Thats too much. Lets try even more".
I like your approach, very much so 😂😂.
You can also do this with the ISP Decimator G-String. It also has key input to it AND splitter built in to the pedal. I use it for years until now.
Yes, but some players notice the high end roll off on the ISP where the ZUUL does not. Whatever works for you, go with it.
Mike Fortin i see.. that makes me curious about trying.. :D
I wish you played a long sustained unison bend on high frets... this is the litmus test for noise gates as far as I'm concerned. It doeant chop the notes off. The key input is reading the signal ungated
Is that Mini-Satan not a production model? I can't find it anywhere.
Not production, no.
with Randall basically going out of business, and Ola now selling his own guitars, perhaps he should also make signature amps with Fortin and finally release a 50watt Satan head via this new company.
what do you mean "Randall basically going out of business"?
Wojtyła Yeah, enenraofficial, tell us more!
Now it is!
The ISP Decimator G-String II does the same thing, and you don't need anything to split the signal, because it has two full signal paths - one for the sensor, and one for the control. the sensor goes in front, the control goes in the loop. I have one, and I will never use another gate.
Cool, if you are happy with them, that's all that is important.
Did I notice ground hum when Ola turns guitar volume on at 5:53, 6:04 and 6:07? Strange his Solar guitars would have ground hum unless not soldered cleanly.
Fortin = Quality
Fortin also = Expensive
I use 2 decimator II's works like a charm. You can also link them together so the loop gate always lets your front gate pass. Ideal for noisy amps.
Or use one NS2 with 4 cable method
I also own an NS2. And the decimators are way better, but so is the price tag.
MetalAndStuffz yes the decimator is the best
buzzsaw63 the old 19" hush c are also great
Both the Decimator and NS2 color your tone like CRAZY and neither has a key.
same response from the mini pedal version?
Why not the TC Electronics Sentry? That has more features and has editable frequency ranges. Plus it's half the price of this thing. This Zuul is even more expensive than Glen's Cock Blocker that just came out.
To reject a call on ios, you double click the power button. (not very intuitive for the "most intuitive" mobile os is it?)
All the way back in the 90's I had my Boss stereo gate modified to exactly that - except one of the channels now works as cue/key straight from the guitar without needing an additional output from somewhere else. Seems I should have sold that idea...
Ha ha this was awesome:-)
Family discount on your awesome guitars?
0:44 happiness is actually spreading from your eyes and irradiating the room i'm sitting in
ktulhu2011 And his mercuriall reaxis vid.
Holy shit Ola, you just blew my mind. Definitely going to have to try this.
Did you try it
Best demo ever! Hang in there Ola!
Not only this gate has a side chain, Boss NS-2 for example has it too. And you don't need another pedal (like tuner) with second output if you will use NS-2. So Zuul is cool but not "gate of the gates" in my opinion. Love this channel, thank you, Ola.
Key input is not a new concept. Boss NS-2 affects the tone, Zuul doesn't. What ever works for you, go with it!
I like Zuul more, really awsome pedal, but it's very expencive for me. Joyo is my choice))
9:40 That's got to be the most evil chugging ever. 🤘 😈 🤘
Glad to see back on to the videos :D
The tone of the Solar guitars and the Randall is so fucking perfect
In my opinion, the best tone in UA-cam is this.
Good test!
I use GString 2 for main noise gate and Precision Drive for 2nd gate and punch..gives the amp a tiiiiiiiiiiight sound
ZUUL THE GATEKEEPER OF GOZER
fuck yes ghostbusters.
Hmmm... what a simple yet clever idea, to control the gate from your guitar, but let it kill both stages of gain when gating.
I have a couple of those Ikea barstools. Very comfy.
I'm sold on it brothers! I love it! Does it fair well with germanium transistors? Thank you!
I can't notice the ISP colouring my tone at all. But then again using 2 Noisegates usually lets you dial in less dB cut.
Don't use the Key input and the gate works smoother
This was super funny Ola, never saw you so sleepy , like watching a foreign movie dubbed, new album Svart is awesome 👏
Best demo ever. I was laughin' through the whole thing. Very entertaining. I'm buying the ISP G-string pedal, but great video!
Thanks for explaining the KEY input!!!
Ola, I know this video was made in 2017. But do you think this is the best noise gate to purchase today in 2020? Please let me know. Thanks.
I like this pedal but it looks like it only comes in the silver in black instead of black and white. Is this true?
Sooo great noise gate! Is the noise gate!!!Amazing.
Why are noise gate pedals so complicated? I just want one that I can use before or after my pedals in from of the amp or only in the noise gate, not both - I don't want to have a bunch of cables running up and down my amp.
What speakers are you using? Amazing sound!
Hey Ola, Thanks for the great and inspiring videos. I'm using some delay and reverb pedals in my effects loop, so I want to know where in the loop chain should I put this noise gate? Greetings from Iran
So if you dont have a splitter theres no point in putting it in the effects loop?
Awesome video Ola! "Question!" Would there be any advantages to running 2 of these (one in front, another in the loop) without using the key input on either???
No, you would have zero reason to do that. You use the single ZUUL for front end and loop! It covers both!
Zuul in loop....Tuner (2nd out) to Zuul key input?
but what lav mic are you using, sir 😟
One o' your best pedal review.
One of the best pedal you reviewed.
One o' your funniest video at all.. rest, Ola!
Ola, you should play Skiwsgar in a Dethklok live action movie.
(currently using NS2 in front and mooer noise gate copy in loop and that cut my cleans badly if I dont switch them off)
"I have a fun sweater in. I keep on touring". Was that what you said in the beginning?
I'm confused, do I need to have a separate pedal with 2 outputs to get the noise gate to work at it's best? If so, are there noise gates that don't need that so I don't have to buy an extra pedal?
Do I HAVE to use the Key input for the pedal to work?
Ola Englund could do a comparison of the Zuul and the TC Electronic Sentry?
Ola can u amp match your Randall Satan and put it on Bias!!! I would love to cover one of ur songs
Gibsoad Studios i have one and i think i’ll do it some time soon!
Philippe clement you're a saint.
Philippe clement oml boi! I’ve been trying to get it for a while now! You are god send
Now it comes with the Neural DSP plugin!
There is no Dana, only Zuul.
What does the little slider switch do next to the keyinput?
I have a question : If your switch to a clean or a crunch channel did the zuul eat the signal of the guitar ? Like if you play softer.. Did we must turn it off
It seems to work well but I think a "guitar through" jack would be more practical than just the key input.
Can someone explain me what is the thing with the « key input »? I want to know what it means and, how and why does that works please!
This or TC Electronic Sentry?
Mr Amp is a beautiful name for your amp!
Hello Ola. This is a very important question. Your answer could have a profound effect on my financial well being. Is your amp stock? Or, has Fortin been inside of it? Or, did Fortin build the thing himself? Please respond as soon as you can.

97warlock ismyname many thanks 😀
So the Zuul basically cuts high frequencies ?
Forgive my noob question, first time I ever hear about noise gates
Sooo CHUNKYY!!! love it! by the way, what amp is that? i didn't see it in the description
Robyn Njui oh wow, thank you!
Did you call the LED lead??
I wonder what the Vinz Clortho by Fortin will do
So we'll see a one channel mega amp from Fartin called the 'Gozer'
Does Zuul shows up in your fridge now and then?
Hey Ola
Would it be possible to use the effects loop output from an other noisegate like the Sentry for the key input?
I asked Mike for some of those badass pedals , ya know donations for my happiness . He said whenever i send the cash.
why not put the gate between the cab and the amp?
Ola, where did you get those jeans???
Ola, you are awesome...those jeans though, not so much.
Almost got that Metalzone tone dialed in!!
Ola AB BOX works like the P1 you used here? Thanks
Hey Ola. Can this gate handle both line level and effects level?
man you are so funny when you're tired as fuck haha the title is actually pretty great for that particular video ! good job Ola :)
I just love your insanity. You are great! But how do you manage to do so many things and in the same time be an amazing father as well? Whars the key?
Cheers from Bulgaria
Ola, please respong. What is your fart mic signal chain?
Is it just me or did the pedal induce heaps of noise when used in the loop by itself? Ola kept turning the volume to 0 from the guitar...
Nope
What drop and strings do you use on this guitar?
