Real good video again I really like miss Molly Real good job again be safe my friend
I’ve had them so tight, the Moen Tool wasn’t working. Turned the water back on to pressurize, and turned back off. Then used a Stainless Steel Eye Bolt, Rag over the Rough in Valve, and gently bumped out with a Slide Hammer. Carried a Lab Wash Down Bottle to Flush the Valve out.
You were lucky on that one Steve, there's that small plastic white square headed shaped tool piece that comes with the new cartridge kit that I always use to get the whole cartridge stem body to just free up abit and turn inside the valve. Then hopefully pull out the cartridge in one piece with the channel locks. The cartridge puller can also be used to free up the cartridge, sure beats having to drill out the broken piece.
I use a heat gun on the valve body once you warm the washers up inside it typically slides right out, when the center pulls out like that they make a tool that pops inside and pulls it out..
What’s the tool called?
I bought one of those cartridge pullers about 15 years ago. It has saved me a couple times. The local hardware stores don’t stock my Moen cartridges but a local plumbing supply carries them. I always keep one handy just in case.
When they come apart a little heat and internal wrench will spin it right out.
Nothing like a new cartridge, smooth as butter.
I have had trouble removing the cartridges. It helps if you use the little white tool supplied and turn the cartridge before pulling it. Like your videos. Old plumber from the Cape
Got lucky on that one Steve ! Nice work like always.
Absolutely love the channel just wanted to wish you and your family an early happy and safe Easter 🐇. keep up on the great work.👍😊
Hey Steve and Miss Molly! Workin’ again y’all. 👍👍
Enjoy watching your videos always Steve! Thanks! Martinsburg, WV 🇺🇸
Also on the really old Moen Cartridges that are all Brass, there is an “O” Ring Kit from Moen. Well there are also small “O” Rings inside the Cartridges. I used to know how to take them apart, and kept those “O” Rings on the Truck.
those old moen cartridges work well but they are hell to pull out when they get crusty my dad was a plumber i didn't know they had a puller like that for those cartridges. i try to pull them at first sign of sticking and put lots of silicone grease on the new one i did one for my sister-in-law and i greased it so much faucet would slowly close on its own when i first put it in LOL. might have also been because we switched to the new plastic cartridge instead of the old brass ones.
longtime fan of the channel Steve, I have one of the old-style Moen tools that will pull both pieces separate tools
Oh man. The gods were smiling on you that day. Very rarely does that plastic pull out one that middle gives way.
Thank you Steve 👍
Another great job Steve.
there's another puller for when that happens it slips inside and has a nob that spring loaded and latches into the hold to remove the outer portion found it at ace
You'll never get those old Moen cartridges out without that Moen puller.
The old Moen tag line: buy it for looks, buy it for life.
Another Great Video as always. Thank you for sharing
Those 1225 Moen inserts don't last long if they get a lot of useage. The rubber material is the wrong stuff, they wear and swell up then leak and stick etc. Then, you do take a chance getting the hot/cold wrong unless you put those in on a daily basis or in high volume.
We are removing & replacing all our shower & lavatory pluming fixtures. What is the best brand to use in terms of longevity & maintenance? Appreciate your channel, big help on replacing old toilet flange.
Ona puller is another great tool to have
Another helicopter genius.
He's paying the bill, so he can watch!!! Steve doesn't mind.
I've had one of those come apart like that. Only the outer part of the cartridge would not come out, I had to drill out the damn piece to get it out. Took me about 2 hours to get it out
Internal wrench and a torch . Have it out in 30 seconds no drilling
Hi Steve
Are the Moen cartridges under lifetime warranty? I thought I read that once.
Howdy Steve and Molly
I have a new Moen and I swear every year I have to replace my valve, gets so hard it won’t hardly turn. Either their made cheaply or they out right suck. I’m on clean city water not a well it you’re wondering.
thanks for the video
Love it.
You’re overdue for a working man’s breakfast/lunch video. I’m sure you have some new recipes?
Hey Steve, at some point an update on the John Deere tractor restorations would be interesting.
Nice video keep
Them coming!
Many of us have had a Moen cartridge from hell 👍👍
Oh boy Steve got lucky on that one.
Got lucky on that one Steve.
Lucky Day Steve.
That was quick.
When you know "YAS"
hey steven cool video and you know your stuff
Afternoon Steve
Hello Steve!
I pulled mine with a pair of pliers - when it let go, landed on my ass. Next time, I’ll look for a puller.
Hey SteveLavimoniere, there is a Umber that has patterned a Moen cartridge tool which is awesome, but you have to use an impact wrench let me know if you get it and what you think?
I meant to type Plumber and patented Moen puller tool
I had an entire apartment complex full of those old moen shower/tub faucets, man, what a nightmare!!
We ended up replacing a bunch due to being jammed so tight they wouldn't come out, even with the tools!!
Wait, wtf was on that shower wall? Contact Paper?
joe homeowner would have been in a pickle if he tried that one on his own. he'd end up calling steve anyway. steve has all the cool old tools plumbers used back in the day. wait till you see him lead in a toilet flange to cast pipe. very interesting process.
Hey Steve what tool is that u use to take out the cartridge
You can buy Moen cartridge pullers pretty much everywhere but pliers will work regardless of what he’s saying here
@@thechad7803 Not always, I've been there.
@@veeko616 yea possibly, I’ve had them break in pieces but still never really had one I couldn’t eventually get out with pliers. Now does the tool make it easier, for sure
I hate those plastic 1200s they make all brass
you are same age as me I retired early half glad i missed the great bullshit pandemic but kinda miss working.
👍👍👍👍👍🔥🔥🔥
👍
That's why you hire a professional to fix your plumbing problems! They have the tools!
And brain too!👍🏿
Had to drill out those suckers one to many times.... Damn Florida hard water!!!
Internal wrench and some heat no drilling needed
He makes it look easy but.....NOT FOR JOE HOME OWNER... Like the cowboys at the rodeo who make it look easy also.
4st
I still have the inclination to turn down the volume before the title ends to compensate for the old syper loud truck engine 🥲
