#FenderCompetitionMustangTuesday 🚦🏎🛣 1) Middle of Nowhere/Hot Hot (hipster) heat 2) Girls / 1975 🇺🇸 3) Smells Like Teen Spirit/Nirvana 4) Song 2 / Blur rad mustang, love the racing stripes 🏎 what’s up Mark & Jen 🎥🎸
In the Girls music video, there are several close up guitar shots where you can see he is playing that lick on the bridge pickup, not the neck. using lace sensor pups too
First time I saw Johnny Winter, in 1969 at the Tea Party, Boston, he was playing a white Mustang through three Twin Reverbs, which were set up in a pyramid - two on the bottom and one on top and in the middle. He was amazing. My ears never forgave me.
Oh wow! Did not expect to hear my hometown mentioned on a guitar of the day. That shop has closed now. I shopped there once in my life but I wasn't born anywhere near it's heyday in the 70's. Thanks Mark for that little surprise in my day!
Hey Mark and Jen, Big fan of GOTD. My friend Mark Thatcher, who is turning 50 today (Wednesday), introduced me to GOTD earlier this year. We are both beginner guitar students, and draw a lot of inspiration from the guitars and songs on GOTD. Really enjoy the behind the music information that Mark provides with each guitar. Looking forward to what comes next, as well as going back and catching up on all the episodes that I missed. Thanks, Paulie B.
Paul Bryant-- Glad too hear. Learning guitar should always b fun, so if your teacher is not making it fun find a new ASAP...hope that's not case however..it's hard work but should always b fun...it keeps u motivated
Christmas morning, 1971, I was nine years old, and all I wanted in the world, was an electric guitar. I was also absolutely sure, I wouldn’t be getting one- based on the unambiguous opinion of my Dad, a Maine State Trooper, regarding all things, “sex, drugs, and rock and roll.” Besides, we weren’t rich, and I’d been borrowing a trombone to play in the school band, so I figured maybe a new horn was what I’d be unwrapping. After my sisters and I had torn open a few of the lesser packages, we progressed to the “big stuff.” I opened a lovely Yamaha classical guitar, and while it wasn’t a Strat, it was like what Chet played, so I was pretty psyched, and I started looking around for a trombone under the tree. Then, I opened a beautiful drip edge Vibro Champ, and a contact mic for the Yamaha- again, not Hendrix gear, but still pretty sweet. I won’t say I wasn’t a little disappointed, but I was definitely looking forward to seeing what that Champ would do. Finally, Dad “found” that last present behind the tree for me- so obviously the square case of a new trombone, that no giftwrap camouflage could hide it. I tore off the paper, ignored the suspiciously thin profile of my trombone’s case, and clicked open the latches to take a look. It was candy apple red, with Shelby racing stripes, a pearloid pickguard, and a wiggle stick- a Fender Mustang Comp! The case was lined with orange velvet. Years later, watching the briefcase scene from Pulp Fiction, I flashed on that moment of opening my Mustang the first time- the golden glow on the rapturous face of John Travolta so like my shocked, thrilled joy at holding that magical instrument. “Yeah, we happy!” Although admittedly, that thing would never intonate properly either...
+Mark This is the first offset demo we've seen you do where you didn't go out of your way to trash hipster shit! ;-) I have a Mustang Modern Player, and as a relative new player bought it when I hit a wall with learning guitar and was prepared to give it up altogether if I couldn't find a guitar I could actually play. The Mustang is a life-saver for us "student types." It fits us regular sized guys like a glove!
wow nice guitar great job Mark love the Nirvana toon. Hey Mark tomorrow is my birthday 64 years old tomorrow been playing since high school and I watch GOTD everyday no matter what how about a shout out from you and Jen on the next show thanks.
Not a tele but this has 2 pick-ups and is a Fender so...I'm too fatigued and irked to name tunes today(besides I don't know the tunes...) 3.Nirvana "Smells Like Teen Spirit"..Ok just one..:-)...(Bonus) 4.Blur "Song 2"....See that extra effort I made..
Cars and guitars do go well together. On an episode of "Bones" Billy Gibbons tells his soon to be son-in-law Hodgins "I have cars, I have guitars and I have guns. Treat my girl right and you'll only see the business end of the cars and guitars" :)
I had a '69 Olympic White Mustang that I bought in '69 or '70 a couple of months old from a guy who decided to go pedal steel. It had individual intonation adjusters and it stayed adjusted. It also stayed in tune. Until you used the wiggle stick or bent the strings savagely. It had a floating bridge that rested on two pins of adjustable height but had enough room to move forward and backward a little allowing the strings to stay put when you wiggled them. In theory. It was still fun to play. I lost it in Hurricane Katrina.
Hey Mark, that is a really nice sounding Mustang! I've worked on a number of them over the last 45 years and the tone of that one comes across really nice!
Neither wonder its so clean.. It's like a twisty old elm tree! Hats off Mark... How you got a tune out of that is remarkable! (get u our neck wrench out man!! Ha ha!)
Great demo, both pickups in phase sounded the best to my ears but my eyes could only see your jacket zipper on the back of that once flawless guitar...
Before I let the dogs out every night, I tell my wife I have to watch/listen to Guitar of the Day. She doesn't understand. I don't even mention Mark and Jen.
Mustangs only came in 24" scale length, and I'm pretty sure that's the same with the Musicmaster. The Duosonic came in both 22.5" and 24" scale lengths.
every guitar shop/store needs a old Sears Silvertone Electric with a case AMP, it is a real affordable collector guitar, a lot of guys have memories of carrying the guitar around their neighborhood i know i do.
pretty bright and jangly guitar , not big on the off set guitars myself and really not sure about the racing stripe at all but it is different so nothing wrong with that.
Nirvana? Isn't that a tshirt brand?

rad mustang, love the racing stripes 🏎
what’s up Mark & Jen 🎥🎸
Mike M. The beginning of the 1st song is rock and roll by velvet underground and but god knows what the second half is
2) Girls by the 1975
In the Girls music video, there are several close up guitar shots where you can see he is playing that lick on the bridge pickup, not the neck. using lace sensor pups too
peterpansie5 I thought the same, but the second half I have no idea
The first one to me sounds like Middle of Nowhere/Hot Hot Heat
First time I saw Johnny Winter, in 1969 at the Tea Party, Boston, he was playing a

As a 90’s music kid, I thoroughly enjoyed!🤘🏻🎸

Thanks Mark for that little surprise in my day!
Nice to see my guitar in action ... Iv'e had mine since 76 ... still plays just like that ... and stays in tune ... fantastic guitar !!!

Hear, hear! We don't all have super long fingers like The Big Salami here! :P
Or salamis! :P
I wonder if someone who has never been to Norm's walked in and thought "Teen Spirit? Get a load of this guy."
Brian W Sounds like a douchebag.
Birthday wishes go out to David Gilmour of Pink Floyd fame.
Brian Bianco thanks for reminding me!
Brian Bianco Who?
Same bd as mine.
Brian Bianco who the hell is David Gilmour
wow nice guitar great job Mark love the Nirvana toon. Hey Mark tomorrow is my birthday 64 years old tomorrow been playing since high school and I watch GOTD everyday no matter what how about a shout out from you and Jen on the next show thanks.
My 17th birthday tomorrow!!! Cheers from the Netherlands! A true GOTD fan here, everyday!

Bona fide car guys are rarely real-deal guitar guys and vice-versa....and that's why I'm the drummer....
Thx Mark, cool Guitar.
*_SQUEEEEEAAAAAAK_*
oh yeah!

Super cool guitar. Back in the 90s in my search for jaguars everyone tried selling me mustangs. Wished I picked up when they were still cheap.
top show anything you show us is great and thank you = we love all guitars !
Wonder if this is still available?
Looks good and sounds pretty good too.
Love it. My sister had the matching bass.
Hey Mark, that is a really nice sounding Mustang! I've worked on a number of them over the last 45 years and the tone of that one comes across really nice!
Always a great show Mark and Jen. My student guitar was a duo sonic.
Mark if you don't show up. It's curtan's for you brew. don't make us get old school on ya. Love your show.
Cool arrangement for teen spirit! And man that thing sounded good on the neck pickup song!
Happy TELEless-TUESDAY everyone, welcome back!

Amazing Sir as always! Supreme rockedge!!
Good stuff, man. You know your shit. Learning more from you than I have about specs and history ever before. Keep em comin. Thanks
My favorite year.. 🤘😎🤘
Neither wonder its so clean.. It's like a twisty old elm tree! Hats off Mark... How you got a tune out of that is remarkable! (get u our neck wrench out man!! Ha ha!)
As an Erie, PA resident I think you should just send this guitar to me so it can be back home again!
Very clean looking Mustang! Bring out as many Gibson's as you'd like Mark. I never get tired of them. Thanks Jen! Byeeeeeeee!!!
Episode 470. That is one bright-sounding guitar.
Don’t forget the Fender print ad from the ‘60s showing a Fender Jaguar resting against a Jaguar fender.
I had a '72 competition burgundy in high school in the 80's and so wished I had kept it. But after listening to this I remembered why I got rid of it!
Nice... made me play my Mustang tonight...:)
I'm
In
Love
Great demo, both pickups in phase sounded the best to my ears but my eyes could only see your jacket zipper on the back of that once flawless guitar...
Woooo Finally some Blur
That squeak from the vibrato arm made me burst out laughing the same exact time as Jen 😂
Great Video guys!
I live close to Erie, PA. Penna was the old abbreviation before everything became 2 letter abbreviations.
CONGRATS FOR 200K
Mark is correct at 6:15, it is from Erie Pennsylvania
I'm watching right now in Erie pa...pena
Nice guitar. I've always liked the offset guitars. I hope you give us a Weird ass Wednesday tomorrow!
Yeah that thing rocks......sweet
My first, 1973 mustang blue cop stripe think light blue stripe, 7th grade, wish I knew to keep it played great
CAR Competition ❤️ Mustang FTW❗️
How rare would a left handed pre-70s 22.5 (3/4 scale) mustang be? I've only seen one picture of one online and even that took some digging..
Ohh, love Mustangs 😎
Is too much to ask a drop d rage against the machine song on the next tele tuesday? hahahaha. You rock, Mark! Greetings from Brazil!
I can dig it.
Mr.Stranger DUG 🏎🏎🏎
There ya go
Neck Pickup: Girls - The 1975
Middle Pickup: Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
Middle Pickup (Out of Phase): Song 2 - Blur
Bridge Pickup: Not sure
It's just like the mustang my dad had, the 1st guitar I ever played on same color same case everything
Mark said the pickups are wired in series - that wrong, though, yes/no?
I'M FROM ERIE! Cool vintage gear from my hometown! Too bad there's none of this good stuff around here anymore. Bummer.
Mark's back...Da Kine!!!
DON'T YOU DARE GET SICK! I NEED MY FIX MAN, I NEED IT!!! Hi Jen! :D
Mark's like the encyclopedia of guitar histrionics!
mark those early days single coil fender pickups, are they rewind"able ? who in LA do you use to rewind pickups ?
Yes. And tons of guitar techs can rewind a pickup, it's easy. Lots of how-to videos on UA-cam too.
Can you pleas try and get in an original es-295? Or a Mike Dirnt P-Bass
can you do a 60's mustang if you have one?? so we can see the matching head stock?
smells like a great guitar
The Ford Mustang came out as a 64 and a 1/2 model, so if Fender Mustangs came out in 64, it predates the Ford.
Before I let the dogs out every night, I tell my wife I have to watch/listen to Guitar of the Day. She doesn't understand. I don't even mention Mark and Jen.
Love these videos. Just for info, series/parallel and in/out of phase is two different things. Keep up the great work
Mustangs only came in 24" scale length, and I'm pretty sure that's the same with the Musicmaster. The Duosonic came in both 22.5" and 24" scale lengths.
for the first year or so they had a 22.5 inch option but it wasnt popular so they stopped making that one and went fully 24 inch
Nice sounding guitar 🎸 looks great too!
Cool guitar.
Woooo! Nice job...
G#uitar of the day! Love the guitar!
Why did the Blur kick sound like it was being played on a ukelele??
The only guy I've seen that's gotten the pickup switching correct!
200,000 Subscribers❗️🤯
The Jacket!
I hope Frank is doing OK... Fun video, Thanks!

Brandon St Onge 🤘🏻😇🤘🏻🏎🏎🏎
Didn't Fender had 3 student model guitars? Musicmaster, Duo Sonic and Bronco?
TheGibson76 correct but I think the bronco came a bit later, possibly after the musicmaster/duo was phased out.
1: No Clue
2: No Clue
3: Smells Like Teen Spirit- Nirvanna
4: Song 2- Blur
1. Middle of Nowhere - Hot Hot Heat

Great show today, More fender please. And maybe some Ibanez?
Was #1 Sweet Jane?
every guitar shop/store needs a old Sears Silvertone Electric with a case AMP, it is a real affordable collector guitar, a lot of guys have memories of carrying the guitar around their neighborhood i know i do.
Gonzo 59 my favorite Silvertone memory was when I put it in the dumpster, poured gasoline on it and....LOL
Yes, that is an older abreviation for the Keystone State
pretty bright and jangly guitar , not big on the off set guitars myself and really not sure about the racing stripe at all but it is different so nothing wrong with that.
Penna. is the older style abbreviation for Pennsylvania. Sweeeeet Mustang!!!
Good thing they wrote Penna and not just Penn, I would have been all confused.
Mark, how do you always seem to know when I'm in Seattle? ☔
Do they ever let Mark leave the backroom - is there a bed in the back where they chain him up every night? :-) (love this channel)
I bought one of these in 1970. It was my first good guitar. Cost 150 bucks .,
I'd LOVE to take that for a SPIN !!!!
