I appreciate your videos! Not enough commander videos out there for Commander enthusiasts. My wife and I are praying for you guys and more subscribers in the future. Keep up the great work!

Getting ready to try and buy a 1975 commander 112 A, any pointers would be appreciated. Very nice video hope I have as much fun with my new plane. I hate to give my problem free plane up, but I need a few more dollars for the new plane,

Wow...I thought that airport looked familar. I started my flying lessons out of Oakland/Troy (KVLL) airport in 1980.

Thanks for posting this video. I was wondering if you could do a review on your Commander 112TC. I have been looking everywhere on UA-cam and can't find a single review for this plane. Just people flying around not saying much about the plane and for sale videos. I believe it would be a much needed video for UA-cam. Thanks in advance and keep up the good work.

Are you planning to put the annual with Jim Richards on youtube ? Would be nice to see the Commander “Guru” Jim go over your airplane.
As a co-owner of a 1977 Commander 112 TCA it would be interesting if you and Jim could talk about the “forgotten” turbo Commander.
When I went out to search for a single engine four seater 20 years ago I didn’t rule out any brand. In the end there were two contenders left : The Cessna 177 Rg and the 112 TC/TCA. The 112 TCA we brought gives us “most bang for the bucks” ;-)
That said, I love the 177Rg and have many ours in it....
    Love your Commander !
    Greetings from Sweden.

Hi Per. Thanks for watching. Unfortunately due to COVID our time with Jim was limited and the plane was quarantined for a few days so we were not able to do a walkthrough in or around the aircraft. We do plan on posting a video on what work was performed during the annual, what we may do in the next 1-3 years, etc.

Hi. Thank you for your video. Im looking for 112/114. Can we talk about your experience of owning 112? Do you have public social media?

Really appreciate the videos. Private pilot here, working on my instrument. 112TCA fits all my mission criteria, if I ever become an owner. A little concerned about the limited options for maintenance. Home airport is D98. Would love to split a ride with you!

Oh great, D98 is a great airport. I’m on the Commander’s Owners Group on facebook and I think the question of maintenance and parts get asked most often. From my limited experience, the parts are out there but a little more expensive that Cessna and Piper.

So, I have not heard from you two in a while, no videos or updates. I take it the annual with Jim didn't go well? Seems like you dropped the plane off and never picked it up? That annual must have found a few things wrong and the cost to retrieve the plane $$$. I'd like to hear why you no longer have the Commander.

Was wondering what happened with this channel. I am an A&P and I have been planning to buy a plane in the next 5 years or so. I was hoping for something sooner but life has a way of delaying plans. The 112 seems like a nice aircraft for the money but I need to join the forum and do some research into the ADs. Some aircraft seem good on paper but become untenable when you consider the extra cost and inspections to comply with open directives.

@@glsracer A Commander is like any other bird. They all require maintenance and they all require parts when they break. My Commander is a solid plane. I think most commanders are built like bricks. However, there are a few items that you have to be aware of. One is the tail AD, make sure it's been done. There are about a dozen others, however, they are very small and less expensive than the tail cracking AD. In my opinion, a Mooney , Beach, or any other plane with the same features (200+ HP, Retractable Gear and Adjustable Prop) are all going to have the same issues and expenses. It's just a matter of what you like better.

    • @glsracer
      @glsracer Рік тому

@@phillipcamarda7332 that's been my experience. I had heard of the horizontal stabilizer issue. It seems like it's about 5k plus labor to fix so I would definitely check that it was done.

Great stuff. More videos please. Question, weedy was your progression to the commander? Did you start with a low wing? Was it a piper? This is a complex aircraft and it seems to be a fantastic option but New private pilots can't fly it, so I'm curious what your progression was and when upon felt comfortable flying the commander. Thanks

We purchased a Cherokee 140 with only 5hrs of training. Once I received my PPL I flew about 90-120 hrs a year. I did that for about 4 years and found 75J in a hanger in New Ulm MN. I found a CFI with tons of AC11 training time , flew out commercially and flew it back to N07. After that I flew for 25 hrs ALONE (with CFI) and we practiced in just about all situations before taking friends and family along for a ride. Maybe Im a bit conservative but flying with a AC11 CFI who made me practice everything from wing stall, soft field takeoff/landing to sim engine out (5 miles out from the airport) at about 5k AGL built my confidence and knowledge base. Don't listen to those who say "parts are hard to find" because I have never been down for ANY reason due to lack of parts. Hands down the Commander is the most stable and comfortable plane I have ever flown (3 adult pass plane) but remember that if a component fails in flight your going to need to learn how to E-dump the gear while conducting a NO-FLAP landing on a short runway. This happened to me during an actual approach in IMC and I was fully prepared and flew the plane to the numbers as I was taught. Hopefully that gave you an idea of what it takes to transition. Good luck!.....

Congrats Phillip, you’ll love flying the plane! I found the IPad Mini fits the panel perfect and I used the mount made by AirGizmos. Pricey for what it is but works great.

@@theplanelife409 I am at D98 (Romeo) just a hop from you. Are you using the mini 1,2,3 or a 4,5? The 4, 5 minis are just a tad larger and I want to order my dock and ipad so, if possible I would like to get exactly what you have as it fist very nice on the panel. Please respond to Ghostrider@longEZpilot.com Thanks in advance as I have lots of questions!
