    I've bought Twins special for my first gloves. I also tried Fairtex but didn't fit my hand as well so I got a pair of Twins

    I got a blue/sky blue 14 oz. Twins Special in 2015 that are the best gloves I've ever had. Feel really durable, and was so stiff it took 6 months to break-in. I was so amazed by the quality and swore by Twins Special. They still look brand new 7 years later, but my weight now requires me to use 16 oz. for sparring. Today in 2022, I just got my new 16 oz. Twins and... they feel lighter, and loose, as if they didn't pack in as much foam. The leather is softer, it feels more broken-in than my 7 year old 14 oz... in a bad way. I can close my fist all the way and bend my knuckles 90 degrees down with no effort -- which is something I can't do on my older model. Dunno if the quality just went down over time, or I got really lucky with my old ones. They're both from an official seller. I got a Twins Special Headgear at the same time as the new order, and the quality on that feels comparable to my old gloves.

      Just weighed them. My new 16 oz right glove weighs less than my 14 oz:
      2015 14 oz Twins:
      Right: 12.94
      Left: 12.48
      2022 16 oz Twins:
      Right: 12.38
      Left: 13.54

      From my experience speaking with another manufacturer that deals with handmade goods, this is something that happens. Market conditions, techniques and many other things can make handmade products vary.. it’s a bummer sometimes but also can be good in your case with your old gloves

    I agree with the comments here. When it comes to weight its a gamble. In my case I have the same model BGLV3's in 14 oz, weighed them out and both hands were at 16 oz. In some case you'll get more or less. For me they worked perfect cause I left them just for sparring due to the weight. They are tight but they just need to broken in. If you have very long fingers maybe not the best glove. I have close to 9 inch hand circumference and they work perfect for me plus the quality for price can't be beat.

      I’m totally not sure how to feel now that they don’t have a normal pattern of the weight issues but glad to hear you have a good set for sparring. Mine are still rather tight after having them this long so I believe it’s a design thing.. either way it’s more of an issue because of me I believe

      @@LocalDallasMan Yeah I see what you are saying. The important thing is that you buy them from a local distributor shop specialized in boxing or mma. They say twins are the most pirated glove out there. My local shop gets their stuff directly from Thailand cause they also get their custom heavy bags made there. I'd be a little iffy when you get shorthanded in weight cause they are saving in padding. Overweight is okay cause when they referr to the oz it's referring specifically on the paddding. So 14 oz on padding plus the rest of the glove in my case which comes out to 16oz.

      @@LocalDallasMan Oh I forgot to mention I recently bought the Rival RB2 2.0 Bag Gloves. Went with medium thinking of having a compact light bag glove. Saw some other videos and got the idea they would weigh 12 oz.max. I went ham on the heavybag and felt my right arm a little sore with a tweak. Plus the gloves felt a little heavy so I decided to weigh them as well. To my surprise 18 oz on both hands which is crazy! Rival has been getting some shit for Q.C. and I can see why now. Awesome looking gloves though with good protection. Like I said before if it's overweight it's still okay cause in my eyes I know I'm not getting screwed in terms of the amount of material or padding on the glove. For other people out there you can't go wrong on having a 16 to 18 oz glove cause the padding will be perfect for sparring and a heck of a workout when it comes to using them on the bag. If you do decide to get in the 10 to 12 oz range your best bet is to just get a good bag mit with thumb protection. That way you'll hit that sweet spot on a nice lightweight glove for conditioning your wrist and knucks as well as getting used to making a proper fist everytime you land.

    The weight really has very very little to do with 12, 14, 16 oz etc, this is because when gloves were originally made they used horse hair as a measure to regulate the protection of the glove. This really should be a thing of the past as different foams perform very differently to horse hair. The institution's should bring in another, say "compression system rather than weight.

  • @williammurray1740
    @williammurray1740 Місяць тому

    The weight disparity of under 18oz is okay when you think about it. As Thai gloves are shorter in the wrist much of that excess weight would normally be there in a more 'boxing' glove. Twins are very well known for being a safe sparring glove, so ample protection for your sparring partner in the knuckle area. In my humble opinion that is. More weight up front may make the glove too cumbersome.

    I got the 16 oz bgvl 3 in wine red. And the weight off my gloves is 14.6 oz both hands.
    Fitting on fingers is tight at the beginning, but loose up after breakin in.
    Very good glove and happy with it. Now its broken in I can make a very thigth fist with it. Only con is that the finger part can be short of you have long finger. The padding on the finger part dont completely cover my fingers. But when I make a fist thats no problem anymore.

    Hey, I just found your video. Great review and a bummer they were underweight, how are they doing these days? Also; what system did you use to hang your heavybag? Mine well off the support beam in my attic, so I’m looking for better ways to mount it and not have it kill me haha

    • @LocalDallasMan
      @LocalDallasMan  Рік тому

      Honestly I wasn’t fond of them and ended up donating them to my gym but they are holding up well with heavy use, I can say that at least. For my heavy bag, I am fairly certain I used “toggle bolts” into the biggest support beam in my attic. I purchase I believe the title branded mount but I may be mistaken.. it’s been a while.. hope that helps! Thanks for watching!

    I love twins, but their weight is usually off. I had a pair of "12oz" that used to spar with because they weighed 15.5oz each lol. Great gloves and padding but it is a bit of a gamble if you want an accurately weighed glove.

      I think the inside of these gloves are pretty consistent with other Thai made gloves. Pretty narrow and short in my opinion which makes this particular glove uncomfortable to use.
