It's more complicated than a 8 min piece from a centrist Jewish perspective can offer. It doesn't mention how it was primarily the Sephardic and ashkenazi populations who suffered persecution by Christians, it doesn't mention that evangelical Christians are in support of Israel due to their own strange biblical prophecies, it doesn't mention how unnecessarily brutal the process of Israeli history has been towards the surrounding areas like the near total control they hold over Gaza's major resources, it doesn't mention the religious criticisms of Zionism within Judaism, it doesn't mention the fact that other people have been exiled from the exact same region many times over even within the past century like my own Christian Palestinian ancestors from Bethlehem (yet I do not have the same right to return there as a mixed Latin American because that right is a privilege only shared among Jews due to the doctrine of Zionism), it doesn't mention the modern perspective of archeology wherein Jews emerged as a monotheistic culture from the cultural backdrop of polytheistic Canaan rather than the small family perspective given in the Bible.
That's not to say I don't respect Jews and the perspective that they need the protection of a state but it's so much more complicated than what this video offers and frankly among oppressed groups Jews are relatively well off. Again that's not to say like pogroms and Holocaust were not beyond horrible but that today Jews are a privileged oppressed people who have the power and influence to create and maintain a state, unlike say Romani (gypsy) people who remain in exile or Mayan people who were being massacred through the 80s and 90s or African people in the Americas who were forcibly displaced and now don't have any one homeland they can name and return to.
Also this is off track to my point but the philistines didn't disappear lol they'd assimilated with the local Canaanite population. Idk man so much of the history here avoided any nuance and that irks me

    • @valenlevalenle6394
      @valenlevalenle6394 3 роки тому +8

There is no such thing as a "privileged oppressed people" for starters. That is literally an oxymoron. You cannot be oppressed and privileged at the same time. If one is privileged, one is not oppressed. There is NO privilege in oppression. African's in America don't need a place to go back too because they ARE American and are not viewed as a separate entity by the majority of Americans. Are there still racists? Yes but there are racists literally in every part of the world unfortunately but the majority of Americans are NOT racist and view African Americans as AMERICANS. Jews have been and continue to be the most oppressed group of people and if you look back at history you'll see that they have been displaced many times over. The holocaust was real and even if you don't take the holocaust into account, there is no denying that jews have been persecuted for a VERY long time in MANY different regions of the world. The Palestinians deserve to live in harmony alongside the jews but it's a shame that their government is run by a terrorist organization. I don't agree with Israeli policies forcing Palestinians out of their homes and that absolutely needs to change but to say Jews are not an oppressed people is just ignorant. I pray for peace for BOTH sides and hope they will one day be able to live together in harmony.

    • @monalisa8638

@@valenlevalenle6394 it was a conscious choice to use that phrase lol basically the point is you can hold power over other people while also having power held over you.
Historically Jews have had power wielded against them many times over but now the state of Israel (not Jews as a whole but rather the government entity of Israel) holds much power over Canaan and are responsible for displacing Palestinians (over the first nakba in the 1940s and then as currently is going on over decades) and then by continuing the blockade of Gaza. This continuing hostility over so many decades itself is what's pushing Palestinians towards more hardline groups like Hamas rather than the more centrist Fatah and the PLO. The fact is that the Likud government is causing active harm to any possibilities of peace via the mindset that any threat, no matter how small, is the grounds on which another Holocaust could happen. In doing so they deny the responsibility they hold to millions of Palestinians, whose land their state encircles many times over; and in the West Bank, whose government PLO is looking unstable. Within a few years the West Bank will all be Israeli land and the Palestinians there would be stateless if their current citizenship situation would stand. That's not exactly a "both sides" situation by any means and I honestly think it's dumb to exclaim that Jews are the most oppressed group of people worldwide when there's multiple people groups being genocided as we speak.

As a Jew, I wholly support the right for Palestinians to return to Israel proper. It remains to be seen whether or not Israeli society in general will come to support it as well. I'm cynical about it, but I think Israel has nothing to lose from becoming more ethnically and religiously diverse. It's not like other ethnic groups are incapable of coexisting with Jews or supporting their right to sovereignty.

Ashkenazi for the ones who went to central and Eastern Europe and Sephardi for the ones who went to Spain. 3) I never said Christian's haven't been persecuted, in fact most of the people affected here in what I'm talking about has little to do with Christians in Israel/Palestine. 4) I'm not a victim. Jews who died in holocaust, Palestinians who are dying in the Nakbas very much are. I'm just trying to say that forced displacement, coloniality, and the perpetual threat of state violence are never okay. Do you think they're okay?

And there was no talk of any Palestinines, there were just jews and arabs. The "Palestinian people" idea was invented in the 60s in an atempt to subvert israeli arabs though it backfired compleatly in events like black september and the cause that led to lebanon civil war

It was legal in the same sense as slavery in the US was legal - simply because powerful people and institutions decided that it was. The "legality" in those times had nothing to do with human and civic rights and democratic rule that we rightfully take for granted these days.
At no point the native population of Palestine, that was close to 95% Arab at the onset of Zionism, agreed to or accepted any kind of foreign Zionist rule on the land they had been living on for centuries and had real, not historical/religious/ideological, ties with. The Zionist project expanded contrary to their wishes and against any basic democratic principles. If instead of colonial powers deciding the fate of the land in 1947 it were to be decided by its residents democratically - there would be no Israel today. So yes, in simple words, Israel is indeed a colonial entity that caused (and still does to this day) immense suffering to the native population of Palestine.

and ohhh cause so much "immense suffering to the native population of Palestine." that right now these Arabs are the richest Arabs out side the Persian gulf. stop making a victims out of your self it is this victim narrative that led to the Arabs uncompromising narrative on the subject of peace and is the reason why there is no Arab/Palestinian state in the first place. all the way back from 1937 when the Peel Commission of the British wanted to divide the region according to the population at least % wise when the Jews will get only 20%. and like always the Jews accepted it and the Arabs rejected it like any solution that doesn't make us Jews wind up the sea.

The British or Ottoman empires brought Arabs to the region? Now that's a load of nonsense. The Palestinians living in Gaza and refugee camps are the "the richest Arabs out side the Persian gulf"? That's an even bigger load of nonsense.
"British wanted to divide the region " - now that's the core issue with you view - the land did not belong to the British! It belonged to the people who lived there, and as I said before they were completely against Zionist migrations and attempts to form an Jewish supremacist state in the region. If you consider yourself a democrat you should clearly see a major issue with a foreign state, Britain, occupying land and giving off chunks of it to other people for political reasons whilst completely ignoring the wishes of native population.
Regarding what happened 70 years ago - naturally the native Arab population wanted to protect themselves against Zionist invasions from Europe who wanted to form a Jewish supremacist state in the land, eventually the Zionists succeeded with the help of mass expulsions of native population. What other Arab countries did and what were their goals is irrelevant, from the point of view the Arab Palestinians they simply wanted to get all the help they could get given the fact the Zionists were supported by the most powerful countries in the world back then.

It’s interesting because the biblical narrative tells the story that the Hebrews were foreigners escaping slavery and actively displaced the native canaanites. Painting themselves essentially as conquerors. However! Genetic tests show across different Jewish ethnic groups, Israelis, and Palestinian Christian, Muslim, and Jews (Mizrahi) - they all are directly descended from canaanites / have Canaanite DNA markers to varying degrees. A genetic continuity.
Which is so weird bc the cultural narratives is that the proto-Israelites and Canaanites were totally separate, right?
The answer likely lies in the Bronze Age Collapse and major social upheavals afterward. Some Canaanites retreated into the mountains bc of so much coastal destruction and wars. Those people began to form a Israelite identity (slowly abandoning polytheistic pantheon toward worshipping a single God), due to whatever complicated social factors at the time. The idea that they were from “elsewhere” could have come from foreigners entering the land and “joining” the formerly Canaanite tribes, bringing their own narratives, such as escaping persecution from Egypt.
Pre-Collapse, Canaan was a vassal state under Egyptian subjugation, so the newly forming Israelites (who in 1200 BC weren’t so much a kingdom as loosely connected tribes with vaguely similar identity and cultural practices) would be keen to be free of that as well as separating themselves from other-god-worshipping city states and tribes, and would welcome outsiders who felt similarly perhaps.
Then flash forward 700ish years to the Babylonian exile and all these oral stories from different tribes and the different kingdoms are stitched to form a unified narrative and Jewish cultural identity. Definitely kernels of truth in it, but accuracy wildly varies
It’s absolutely fascinating, and extremely disappointing and horrifying that in the end that different parts of the narrative are used to justify displacement of people by claiming they’re the “true” inheritors of the land. When it has always been a diverse mix of people coming together and going apart. The genetics roughly stays the same, with various foreign influences ar different times from different empires, but the beliefs and languages are what seem to change.

@@nSikandar firstly I am glad you brought up genetic studies because most of the Palestinian population according to multiple studies are ear identical to Jewish populations which suggests that likely Palestinians were jewish people who converted. And seeing how Judaism came way first… So the fact islam is even in the area suggest that they were technically the settler colonists.
Regardless though, there has never been a Palestinian state. The core jewish community that became Israel started off with 20000 indigenous jews and 80000 jews who legally moved there under Ottoman law. Likewise who legally bought land from Palestinians. So if this is colonialism then under your logic Chinatowns and little italy’s in the US are settler colonies.
Then after the ottomans under the Palestine mandate the land Jews lived on was further legitimized. (75% of the land went to Arabs)
Then during Nazi genocide more Jewish came to the Palestine mandate lands legally fleeing oppression.
Then after the war the UN approved two states. One Arab one Jewish. To which the arabs countries declared war. And lost.
Countries that are established are allowed to control immigration. Israel had a claim to become a country the second the Ottomans no longer controlled the region. At the very least as must as the arabs did (Jordan exists).
Most of the Palestinians who were displaced was a result of their leaders telling them to leave not Jewish people displacing them. The Palestinians that stayed are Israeli citizens and make up 20% of the population and were likely victims of Hamas’ attack. This is a case of more refugees than displacement.

"Reality" (or "realty" since the conflict is about real estate). That Jared Kushner's 2020 proposal of returning only 70% of the West Bank fell far short of Ehud Barak's 2000 proposal of 97%, can be blamed on the short-sightedness of Yassir Arafat.
To your charge of colonialism: Historically, when the British partitioned the Mandate, they gerrymandered the territory -- the Jewish districts became Israel, the Arab ones, Palestine -- which explains the jigsaw puzzle-like appearance of the original pre-'48 maps. It also should be noted that the Jews at that time were living in lands that were legally purchased by Jewish organizations like Jewish National Fund (JNF). The Palestinian Arabs were either expelled during the war of '48 for abetting surrounding Arab countries whose armies invaded nascent Israel, or were not permitted back after fleeing from the Israelis who were proving to be victorious in repelling the invading Arab armies.

It's their homeland, not some colony of Western civilization for European white supremacists, half of the Jews in Israel are Mizrahi, Jews from Arab/Muslim lands, Jews from Africa and Asia.
Moreover, in no way or form does it state to "decolonize" any Arabs on the way. The whole displacement of Palestinians is because of a war their grandparents started with the surrounding Arab nations. When more Jews came to Israel the nation was weak and in no way comparable to the power it has today yet people keep comparing the past of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict equivalent to the British colonizing the Americas. Palestinians started the Arab-Jewish civil war, they lost and in turn many got displaced, later the Arab nations invaded; more Palestinians got displaced (Jews too) but the Arab invading countries lost (Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan) while also not allowing Palestinian refugees to assimilate in order to fuel the conflict even more, and here we are today.

@@nathenhamden it shows you didn't understand the video at all.
Jews in Israel is decolonization, Jews have a history that precedes that of the Arab conquest by thousands of years. Israel is the ONLY country in the world where the same nation of people, same religion, same land and same language are used as they were thousands of years ago.
Jews returning to Israel is also for the best as now Christians, Jews and Muslims have a freedom of religion in the land and a chance to pray in Jerusalem, something they didn't have under the Ottoman, British or Jordanians. Palestinians have a chance to build their own state for the first time as the Jordanians nor the Egyptians gave them the option before.
If the Palestinians were to go back to '48, there would be an ethnic cleansing of anyone not Muslim. Just look at the Christian community in Gaza and the West Bank dwindling while in Israel they are growing. Sharia laws would also be placed just like they are in Gaza and if people falling from airplanes in Afghanistan showed us something, it's that it's not a positive thing especially for non-Muslims.

@@nathenhamden the Indigenous people of the land are the Jews who have had a consistent presence in the area since before the invention if Islam and are called "Jews" because they come from Judea, while Palestinians and didn't start calling themselves Palestinians until the 60's, before then "Palestinians" referred to Jews. There have always been Jews in the land, that's undisputable. Although it's true that there have been casualties to both sides and at this point the Palestinians are indigenous too, their governments (Hamas and PA) don't seem willing to compromise and just share the land, the only solution available, so that's on them.
Diplomacy and law didn't seem to sway their opinion, nor did wars they started:
the San Remo Resolution in 1920, Balfour Declaration, UN votes in 1947, legally purchased lands (from Palestinians too) and wars that were waged on Israel... Non seem to have worked, so you are welcomed to brainstorm.
And if you want to get into "terrorizing" than here are just a few examples of it:
      1936-1939 Arab revolt in Palestine
      1938 Tiberias massacre
      1929 Hebron massacre
      1929 Palestine riots

      1517 Hebron attacks
      1517 Safed attacks
Massacre during the First Jewish-Roman War 67 AD
Massacre during the Samaritan Revolt (36 AD)
If you have to wipe out an ethnic group's whole history by denying they are indigenous just to prove your point, it's not a point worth making and you are just hurting the Palestinian cause. You are also going against historical findings, scientific research, archeological proof, documents, coins, scrolls, tombs, Stone slabs, books etc.. there is so much evidence disproving your claim that you might as well say the earth is flat.
Instead of gaslighting Jews, how about trying to promote peace and actually help the Palestinians, not lie for them. In the end, you are just hurting everyone involved.

Many look at the whiteness level of many Jews and question the Jewish narrative that all of them descended from the Middle East.
The logic goes as follows: If Jews really inter-married with each other and had few converts from outside, the genetic makeup of Jewish society should be mainly Middle-Eastern / Arab, similar to how Egyptians, Syrians, Turks and Persians look like.
Instead, many Jews, especially those from America and Eastern Europe, display skin color akin to the caucus region. This can only be explained due to a relatively high level of conversion from the caucus / non-native region to Israel, at least in some areas. The claim that many Ashkenazi Jews say that they are direct descendants of the Middle East is therefore cast into doubt.
That is not to say this can outright deny all Jews claims to the land, but it does place a question mark on the makeup of over 50% of Jewish society. Even if there was direct lineage, can one say they belong to a land because their great great great great great great great great great great great great great grandfather was cast out of it?
There is also wide agreement that had it not been for Christian/European mistreatment of Jews in diaspora, most would still remain outside of Israel living their comfortable European lives.
The main reason so many came to Israel was because they were seeking a refuge. The idea of making their own state was not even a popular idea until all that persecution began to peak in the 1800s.
I'm of the opinion that was happened in the past should remain in the past. People need to move on with the times. As a result, I don't blame Jews for deciding to create a state in what was once their native land (or at the very least, the origin of their religion). That said, they also need to recognize that there is a large number of displaced Palestinians / Arabs who still live in now fully built cities made of refugee camps.
Whatever land they do still own often gets seized by the Israeli government on the basis of a religious Zionist will to complete full annexation, which goes against both the Balfour and UN declarations of a shared land between Jews and Arabs.
Since so much land was already taken by settlers, and local Palestinians have no real way to hold a sustainable state in the fractional and highly dispersed lands they have left, the only solution to their conflict is to absorb the local Palestinians into Israeli society and make them full fledged and equal electorate members in a single state.
This also means that Palestinians should have the same right travel across the country and buy land/property wherever they go. Anything else will amount to full fledged apartheid.

What about the account of the king that told those peoples who were basically Satanist to pick a religion or the king would bring his military might upon them so they picked Judaism. And are Jews also Hebrews? Because the kid talks about their people as if they are all the same but in Ethiopia, there are a huge amount of people that are actually in hebrews from ancient times. What about them? I digress what about in the Bible I thought the Jews lived in Egypt for a long time than who was living in Jerusalem. At that time it would stand to reason that they are from the region. All questions I like answers to.

Calling all Arabs the same is a complicated issue. I'm only part Palestinian but what you're saying is equivalent to saying Mexicans are the same as Colombians or the same as any other mixed Latin American country. Basically Arabic is a common language and culture throughout the region but there's hundreds of indigenous people who got assimilated into that culture. Ie my Palestinian ancestors were guaranteed to have been there at the same time as my Jewish ancestors and therefore have at least as much a right to their land as Jewish people. Besides it's a holy land to them also and they're not even all Muslim like my relatives are all Christians from Bethlehem, a place that's now been heavily colonized.

He was a completely secular Jew and has no Jewish (orthodox standards) descendents. So I am curious why we as Jew never talk about Herzl in a more critical light, of the fact that the land did not seem to mean much to him just that there was a land for Jews.
