This song in particular, plus a couple other from 2003's Octect cohort, springs to mind every now and again. It still sounds as great as the first time I heard it all those years ago. So great it's available to listen to on demand
i love you guys so much. ima singer but a kid. been goin to a music school for a couple years now and they just amde made a young men's chorus that im in. actually we got 7 guys too haha. i hope we're as good as you guys
@mywolf75 they graduated. Actually, there is currently a UC Men's Octet. This group has been performing since 1948, but the group member change. The '02-'03 Octet recently had a reunion in Hawaii, and someone posted a video of a short live stream concert they did. Just search for the UC Men's Octet's most recent uploads.
@jannboy326 yea, it's just how collegiate acapella goes. Every year people graduate and new people join the groups. The repetoires change too. It's the same in all college acapella groups. UCLA Awaken, USC Reverse Osmosis, BYU Noteworthy, CSUN Acasola, UC Men's Octet.. different groups every year. Some years are better than others.
@windsormountain I believe that part of the 'injustice' might be due to what the Octet are. They're a Spirit group for Berkeley. However, at Berkeley and in the a cappella community they are rock stars. :)
damn! i have been looking for this song on spotify for like an hour... now i know why i couldn't find a version i liked! it was this one i had in mind! crap.. sooo, any suggestions for another version? :P
@punkpunkkid Not sure what being American has to do with it, but they're not singing together anymore because this was a college group which they participated in as an extracurricular activity, and they're not in college any more. You may also be interested to know that the UC Men's Octet was established in 1948, and different members of this same group are singing today...and these guys are getting together this summer to sing in Hawaii.
@isurveil That's funny, because the 1998 UC Men's Octet beat out SNC in the ICCA's (a collegiate a cappella competition.) and this group is the only one to have won the ICCA's twice.
well they HAD 8, but the 8th member dropped out...just go to his channel and watch the video that says opening video for the show...something like that, it explains how they got together.

"Blackbird fly." Great song and an great performance.
smoothest, most pleasant-to-listen-to version of that song i ever did hear.
I can hardly focus on the song...he is as gorgeous as his voice! Perfection!
This brought tears to my eyes.
This song was MADE to be sung a capella... there are no words that do justice to this sound, just wow!
I can't stop listening to this guy. He is awesome.
An a cappella chestnut, but this is the most wonderful a cappella rendition that I have ever heard. Simply superb.
That man has a beautiful voice. It's so captivating, I could listen all night

Needed to hear this song with Ben singing it - from your fan since 2007. Viewing it at 2018

if you're at berkeley this year we're looking for a bass. auditions are usually around the 2nd or 3rd week of classes during fall semester
i
Wow... i can't believe how good this sounds. This definitly does honor to the original.

To say a voice is so much easier to play. You have no idea how difficult it is to make 8 guys sound this good together.
Bravo.
dude that asian guy has an awesome voice. and i listened to most of the different years, i like 2003's group best. . .
All I can say is wow.
@windsormountain I see your point and agree with you. I just think it's awesome that they do it because they love it.
That's right it is in the original. It was very well done and all they did was try to perfect it without humor. Brilliant!
I saw their Bohemian rhapsody and I immediately favourited this before I even watched, amazing
@jannboy326 Welll, the UC Men's Octet still perform (the group has been around since 1948) however, the members change, usually on a yearly basis.
sangat tenang.. :) saya suka
@jannboy326 I completely agree.. I wonder if the current octet is any good
@jannboy326 yea, it's just how collegiate acapella goes. Every year people graduate and new people join the groups. The repetoires change too. It's the same in all college acapella groups. @lilbluange1 I was watching some of their videos and looking at the dates, and this year's octet seems really good.
Not these specific guys, but there's a 2009 Octet. It's been tradition for damn near 30 years to have an Octet. There's plenty of footage, go nuts!
Beast mode
@windsormountain I believe that part of the 'injustice' might be due to what the Octet are. They're a Spirit group for Berkeley. However, at Berkeley and in the a cappella community they are rock stars. :)
I agree, the 2003's group was the best!

miss you ben. you know who this is.

yeah
@flamefingerz14 Yeah, their tone in this video is really something.
OMG.. this guy could totally convince you to do VERY evil things in this smooth voice!!
