I have a MT09 SP, no question the XSR looks better but I have a more comfy seat and upright seating position so better for commuting, touring. Either bike or even the Tracer is a gem with the frame, engine and quick shifter.
20 years on either would leave you looking like a moroccan tailor (hunched over with bent spine). Get those handlebars 2 inches higher for gosh sake! I own one and it really chaps my ass how i have to lean forward on it with its flimsy light thin handlebars that want to dance like the devil. Rake is too short unless for the racetrack or super smooth roads, as are most modern neo cafe 'kill millennials' bikes these days. Thai roads have waves in them and little bumps and snakelines, mudfalls, floods.. But they sell these type of neo sports and heritage sports 17" front wheelers like the xsr and the mt to kids in the thousands here, and many are dying due to the fact that the bikes are not made for Thai roads. The XSR is getting too much hype on youtube (paid probably some of it), and to be honest, from the 6 bikes i own, its the one i feel is the flimsiest, and least safe, and the lack of a partition in the gas tank is a serious flaw to the central balance of the bike due to the4 flow of the petrol from left to right side of tank when half full, unbalancing the bike. I have spent most of my life on the back of a motorcycle (since age ten i am now fifty eight), and i do not feel safe on an XSR, which means, it is not safe
Great review! I just picked the same motorcycle up a week ago. I had a 2016 years ago and I must say the improvements on the 2022 stand out. Great engine and the quick shifter is butter. To my understanding blue will be the only color available in 2023. For those who are looking to pickup a black one, check it out in person. It has flake in the paint and really pops in the sunlight.
I bought one in June having not ridden for 30 years like you said quite stiff out of the box but I set the suspension up for my weight and it transformed the bike I love it and a great review cheers
Thanks a lot for your brilliant and informative review on the XSR900. I picked up mine in September and have enjoyed every single of 2600 km so far. Highly addictive, as you mentioned.
Until this review, 1 of many I have watched before I gave up and bought my 2022 street tripler R, none of them spoke of the adjsutable front suspension or cruise control or if they did I must have missed it. I would have bought the 2022 even though I would have had to travel +/- 500 miles here in the states from where I live to get one due to local dealers not having any delivered. Thanks for your review, yours are the best as always.
What a fantastic bike and brilliant review! I sat smiling in front of my iPad all the way through it :) As a brand new rider and only 5”4 it’s a bit much for me right now but who knows where I’ll be in a couple of years… Hopefully on one of these. I love the blue/gold colour.
This is my third time watching this video and I watched other videos on this bike and I must say the more I look at this bike the more I want it! Great review.
Nice review. First time I have seen it in the black (all other reviews have had the blue press bike). The blue is very nice but I have to say, I am loving that blacked out look!
Great review. I have a 2016 60th Anniversary XSR and it is a superb motorcycle. I have added well over £3k of accessories, including Ohlins suspension and an amazing LED headlight which improves the riding experience. I am lucky enough to have two other motorcycles (a BMW R1250 GS & Triumph Speed Triple 1200 )and can honestly say the XSR is my favourite 👍
@@DB-sd3cw I wouldn’t describe it as frivolous, but more decadent. If you currently ride a motorcycle, I would suggest giving up, since most bikers tend to be really positive people 😷
Thanks for the review. I own the XSR900 2016 model in grey and red and I love it. The engine is superb and it is nimble and cheap to maintain. It is no bulky and weighty, but it is a mighty bike!!!
Brilliant review, thankyou!. I saw this exact bike at my local bike shop today.. absolutely loved the look of it in Black.. so much so I've booked a test ride tomorrow.. Your review has certainly helped! It really is better in the flesh than on screen too
Good review of a brilliant bike. I've got the blue version that i think looks so much better than the black. I find that the tank range isn't a problem as if you were planning loong motorway trips you wouldn't buy this bike, this is for fun not touring. I do find it odd that lots of the comments say its a very fast bike and super powerful, I don't feel that at all when i ride it, the power is very smooth and controllable and you only go as fast as your right wrist makes you. It tops out at 140mph ish so not a hype fast bike. Either way i'm very glad i brought mine.
Great video. I was already going to order one of these by the end of the week, and your video answered the final few minor questions I had. As an interesting side-note, I'm a very short man at 5ft 3 and while I can't flat-foot both feet, I can still easily flat-foot one of them, or sit upright on the balls of my feet. I'm so thankful for this era of 810mm seat heights haha.
I’m 5’8 so the seat height appeals in terms of being able to reach the ground in traffic. Also like the way the bike develops its power and throttle smoothness- not something you find on every euro 5 compliant bike. I would prefer a bikini fairing that offers more wind protection. A bike I’d be happy to own.
Great review and it’s good to see the typical RPMs for real world speeds. Although I’d have to take it really easy in suburb surface streets, this bike would be fun to ride on the freeways here in California (where average speed is 80-85 mph).
I looked at one of these in blue a month or so ago, but unfortunately they didn’t have one to test ride so I went for a hyoermotard sp which was brilliant fun on the test ride. Was worried the saddle looked really hard and suspension too form for a B road, wish I’d seen your review…, but happy with the hyper for time being
That's so nice to see, you can flat foot the bike at 5'7. I am the same height as you and most of my previous bikes I couldn't flatfoot. It's not the end of the world but it's nice to flat foot.
Thanks Mark, due to this review I ordered one in black. At first I was doubting buying a Z900rs, but the price, features and amazing engine did it to me. I also own a 83 cb1100f superboldor, so the z900 would look too classic next to it anyway😊. Its coming next week, cant wait. Thanks again!

G'day Mark from Australia, now that's a bike l would love to ride, new with touch of old bike stance, and plenty of horsepower and a reliable engine, bit open at the rear end but not a deal breaker, your delivery address is spot on, cheers mate, Neil 🤠.
Great Review, Mark, as usual. I am a big fan of Yamaha. Currently own a MT07. I am looking to get something in this class. This one is on my short list. The Honda CB1000R is also on the list. I do like the Retro Style over the more Modern Look.
Hi Paul these 900 triples are epic 😁 There is a harshness to them at say 6 k upwards but for me not an issue more of a character...it's not like inline 4 that can buzz and numb your hands Cheers mark
Always enjoy your reviews. Thank you. Wish I had had the patience to wait for this bike. At the moment only using 1/3 of what my 890R is capable of, but after living with it for the last 2 years the idea of sell/trading it hurts some, lol. That said, I’d almost consider trading for the XSR900.
It needs to be blue Mark, black doesn't really do its looks justice, but do you prefer the shorter wheelbase and somewhat lighter MT-09 to this model, looks aside ? I suppose this one is a bit less twitchy when really pressing on, but I tend to prefer bikes with a shorter wheelbase.
Hi Michael ...this one is just as much fun but feels a little less twitchy/ lively due to its slightly longer wheelbase but amazing fun all the same cheers mark
Hi Donna the xsr900 feels and is alot lighter...the cb1000r is more of a naked muscle bike with it's 140 HP the xsr is more terrier like but no less fun with it's less 118;HP . Two great bikes the Honda is a dream to look at and very smooth but the xsr feels much more nimble Hope that helps a bit Best wishes mark
Which bike did you prefer, the XSR or the MT 09? I loved the new XSR when I sat on it at the bike show. I thought it was perfect for me. I'm about the same height as you are and could put my feet down without trouble. And.....it's light too. The only thing I couldn't stand was the tiny TFT. FFS how much more does a bigger one cost?
Lots of complaints about the tiny TFT on these and the MT09. Next years MT 07 gets a 5" colour TFT so I expect Yamaha to fit that one to the following years MT 09 and XSR. Fuel tank is too small as well. The seat I would throw away and fit a flatter after market one. Other than that it's a great bike but I will stick with my 2022 Aprilia Tuono 1100 V4 thankyou [it's the best bike I have ever ridden and I have been riding since 1978].
If you are a complete beginner something like the xsr 700 would be better ... however if you have a year or so experience then the modes maxed out will soften then throttle response somewhat Good luck best wishes mark
👏 Mark, great review , Being a current MT owner I was a little negative to the looks when I first saw the XSR tbh but seeing again in the black and with the extras on the bike especially the front screen really looks the Biz! Had mine for 8 months now and have to agree the cp3 engine is an absolute Hoot😄
Hi Mark, if you had a choice of this bike (XSR900) or Suzuki gsxs 1000 2022, what would you go for? as they are both about the same price second hand. Great video as usual.
Any input on the xsr900 for tall riders. Been dying to get one of these but i'm a little under 6'5 205lbs. Worried about the ergonomics and haven't been able to find one to test ride.
Hi...I didn't notice any difference to be honest....they both felt super stable to me at highway speeds ....the handling on both is light and fun ....I'd highly recommend either Best wishes mark
As a first gen owner, I was really looking forward to the update….but other than cruise, it just doesn’t work for me. I love Yamaha, have two right now, just sold my mt10. I may have to look elsewhere for the next fun bike. Perhaps the new triumph street rs, in red. Ooh. Nice review 👍🇨🇦🤪
I say, XSR is image motorcycle, which makes your day funny, but Tracer 9, with higher comfort, makes that day much longer. I have blue, like second bike, from September already over 2500kms, now can wait for warm April 2023 weather.
The display looks tiny, like a pea on a drum. Did you find it so Mark and was there any problems identifying the information? It is much smaller the the mt09 one. Am considering this bike so your opinion would be welcome.
Try the Aprilia V4 1100 Tuono. Oh my god. That thing is in a different league. Been riding since the 70's and nothing and I mean nothing compares to that. The XSR is great fun but that Tuono is just bonkers.
Nice one as per normal Mark. I achieve 59mpg on my daily commute with my blue MT09 same engine. The XSR looks better is slightly different as has the standard cruise control which is handy. I saw the XSR both in blue and black at the local dealer and I have to say that the fantastic Yamaha blue is the one for me. The only odd thing with this bike is the gap between the seat and the fuel tank. It looks like they could have made the fuel tank a bit bigger if they closed that gap. I don't know but it looks just weird. Do I think it is £1400 better than my MT09? Tough one. Nevertheless I love my MT09 the engine sounds OK but I still call it the sound of a coffee grinder with my helmet on. 😉
Thinking about replacing my Flat Track Pro with this. At 5'3.5" a bit worried about seat height but can get lowering link if needed. What think you Mark?
Hey Mark, I'd like yout opinion. I'm getting my 1st bike next spring and I was thinking about this bike. The previous Gen is a bit suicidal, but this one has the power modes, that theoretically tame the bike to a 650 naked category, do you think it would be too much for somebody like me? I'm 33, 1,84m, 110 kg. I know how to respect power, I've had a couple of fast cars in the past, that's why I was thinking maybe I could get away with this one. I know there are other options out there, but I really like the way the xsr900 looks and sounds.
Get yourself a triumph street triple 675, my 1st big bike was the Rx, forgiving bike, fast as fuck and one of the best nakeds hence why I now own a street triple 765rs, lovely engine's
Got to agree with Mako, this bike is a bit of a handful for new rider. May I suggest if you like a nice retro bike and you have a fair budget maybe a Triumph Street twin or Kawasaki z650 both plenty fast enough for a newbie or for an older bike the venerable Suzuki SV 650 v twin
Not good looking in black as it emphasises that chunky frame, but looks a really nice all purpose bike. Riding / comfort - how does this compare to the mt09?
Nice review of what seems like a very decent bike. Much prefer it to it's MT sibling in terms of looks & style but it's still not a great looking bike imo. Although it does look much better in the black than the blue & it would be even better with the gold forks & wheels too.
It doesn't look as striking in this colour. The blue one with the gold wheels looks better. I've come round to not minding the seat hump. The rear foot pegs are off the original MT, the 01. Six degrees. I've forgotten what that feels like. If it gets below 20, I feel chilly. Great bike and review.
Hey Mark, I need your advice. I have narrowed my almost yearly new bike research to XSR900 and GSX S950, both pre-registered and brand new. Yamaha for £9800, Suzuki for £8500. I don't care about the quick shifter and cruise control ( I don't do Motorways). Which one would you recommend?
Hi Chris well they are both great bikes ...both equally good ...but that's a big difference on the Suzuki for the price ... so I'd say definitely get the gsxs. It's got an awesome engine Best wishes mark
hi Mark, I have a question about the brakes, I recently rode an xsr900 and when I pull on the front brake lever(even very softly) there is an initial grab or bite that I found odd never having come across it on any of my other bikes, is that normal for this bike ? regards David
Hi David I've ridden many bikes and the bite point is always different on every bike some grab instantly others not so Nothing to worry about here :) Best wishes mark
@@markpulling12 Thanks Mark, I had a XSR 700 i sold it because of turbulent. After 160 kmh i was trying to stay on bike. I had a neck ache while riding but i cant give up to ride a xsr. I like its style so much. I wish i can test ride but i dont have this chance in my country. If this bike quite windy i think it would'nt be has enough wind protection with puig or some brands windshield.
I wonder if anyone has fitted that brembo master lever combi to an older XSR900?? Looks great, with added breaking! (Which may or may not be an issue as the older models abs is a little bit intrusive, or I’m overly aggressive 🤷♂️)…
Is the quick shifter blipper jerky at all? I rode a s1000xr and the shifter blipper was so smooth, at a much higher price of course. I am 5’11 with 30 inch inseam. Would this or mt09 fit better? Or neither? I am 207 lbs btw.
yes, definitely is better on the move to look at , very quick spin up engine , is quite a contrast to the meteor 650 you last tested at the same weight ;; ideal world is to have both ;;
A decent review but personally I preferred the looks of its predecessor. I don't get how you can tell about hunting/ surging while travelling at 30mph in D2 and 2nd or 3rd gear? With Euro 5&6 the issue is the fuel cut off on stop starts. You'd also already stated it was too snatchy in D1
Hi I meant d1 was very sharp / Instant throttle....I prefer the softer d2 mode ....when riding at partial throttle at low speeds you can feel if the fueling isn't quite right but this is spot on Best regards mark
Most consistent review channel in my opinion. Follows a regular well formulated protocol. Excellent!

Thanks Rob yes it's a marvel of engineering that engine 😅
I agree with you Mark that triple is a fantastic engine, I’ve had a Tracer and MT fabulous 😊great review
Will be my next bike
Hi Mark, if you had a choice of this bike (XSR900) or Suzuki gsxs 1000 2022, what would you go for? as they are both about the same price second hand. Great video as usual.
Hi shiv ...tough choice as they are both 5 star bikes ...think I'd go for the xsr as I really like the triple engine
Best wishes mark
@@markpulling12 Thanks Mark! Keep up with the great content bud! 😄
@@markpulling12 I tried the GSXS1000 and it felt too big and looks too transformer.
Nice review, thanks ...what better, this or new suzuki GSXS1000 ?
Hi I'd get this one as I love cruise control but there isn't much in it 😄
Love it Mark! Great review👍
Thanks Brett 😀
Any input on the xsr900 for tall riders. Been dying to get one of these but i'm a little under 6'5 205lbs. Worried about the ergonomics and haven't been able to find one to test ride.
thank you for a great review! hopefully i get this one next year :D
Many thanks and yes great choice 👍
Best wishes mark
The XSR 900 is said to be more stable on the highway and in curves then the MT09. Can you confirm that?
Hi...I didn't notice any difference to be honest....they both felt super stable to me at highway speeds ....the handling on both is light and fun ....I'd highly recommend either
Best wishes mark
Fab bit of honing, what an extraordinary frame 👍👌
There is only one thing I wish for on my xsr is I wish it was black. Super bike.Andrew
a very nice bike! very well done video 👍 which color do you prefer ? black or legend blue…
Hi it's got to be the 🔵 for me 😃
@@markpulling12 Yes, I think so too 💪 blue is beautiful, you did a great job on the video! Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪
Fantastic review. Currently weighing this or a S1000R/R9t. I know they're different. Not sure if extra shell on Beemers worth it
As a first gen owner, I was really looking forward to the update….but other than cruise, it just doesn’t work for me. I love Yamaha, have two right now, just sold my mt10. I may have to look elsewhere for the next fun bike. Perhaps the new triumph street rs, in red. Ooh. Nice review 👍🇨🇦🤪
Many thanks 👍
I say, XSR is image motorcycle, which makes your day funny, but Tracer 9, with higher comfort, makes that day much longer.
I have blue, like second bike, from September already over 2500kms, now can wait for warm April 2023 weather.
Sorry but to many things I don't like the look of but I would however go for an MT model either 09 or 10 instead 😉nice one Mark 👍
Many thanks 👍
The display looks tiny, like a pea on a drum. Did you find it so Mark and was there any problems identifying the information? It is much smaller the the mt09 one.
Am considering this bike so your opinion would be welcome.
Hi yes it's small but you can see the essentials easily like speed and revs
These engines are so engaging you hardly notice anyway
Best wishes mark
That looks a cracking bike! never knew anything about it. Cheers!
I have to agree the CP3 engine is awesome having owned around 25 different bikes over the years nothing compares 👍
I want a cp2 900 cc engine already
Try the Aprilia V4 1100 Tuono. Oh my god. That thing is in a different league. Been riding since the 70's and nothing and I mean nothing compares to that. The XSR is great fun but that Tuono is just bonkers.
The v4 on the Tuono is maybe too much for the road, difficult to use all that power, 120hp is an other matter, but agree the Aprilia sounds very nice.
Great review, this bike is now on my list,
very good and informative. That's the way bike should be reviewed!
Many thanks I appreciate that 😊
Best wishes mark
Yes lowering kits are usual and work very well
Should be fine
Cheers mark
Thank you very much for another great review Mark. What about the new MT10, is it on the list? 😁😁
Yes it's on the way .... crescent Yamaha have one but it's not ready yet for the road ,:)
Can you please tell us where you got the windshield, please.
It's not my bike it was a demo ....I think the screen is from the Yamaha website... failing that try power bronze UK cheers mark
How is the lower end torque on the xsr 900. Do you need to constantly keep changing gears
Hi it's amazing 🤩 all you could ask for...just leave it in a high gear if you want 😁
@@makomadeira5799 Thanks for the suggestion !
@@bigstu31able Thanks for the suggestion !
I'd go for maybe the xsr700 or something like a Honda cb500 f ...this bike is super fast and a bit much for a first machine
Goid luck mark
Great video like always u r the #1
Many thanks 👍🙏
Not good looking in black as it emphasises that chunky frame, but looks a really nice all purpose bike. Riding / comfort - how does this compare to the mt09?
Hi Gary you sit in a bit more ...I found it more comfortable
Cheers mark
Nice review of what seems like a very decent bike. Much prefer it to it's MT sibling in terms of looks & style but it's still not a great looking bike imo. Although it does look much better in the black than the blue & it would be even better with the gold forks & wheels too.
Nah. The blue is best.
I prefer the black.
Perfect review👌greetings from Greece, keep going Mr
Thanks for the feedback:)
Thats a lot of bike of the money, i like it although i do prefer the blue, great review as always mark 👍👍
Many thanks jake :)
Hi nik yes that was a cold review yesterday ☺️. Cheers mark
Beautiful bike. Love the sound of that silky smooth engine. The seat is not to my liking. But great bike.
Hi Mark. Is there much difference in power between the 700 and 900 version as you have rode both..what do you
Prefer..🤔
Hi Terry they are both great 👍
But yes the 900 is way more power than the 700 ...70 ish HP vs about 115 HP ....I prefer the 900 ;)
Best wishes mark
@@markpulling12 oh cheers mark 🥂
How many cylinders? Sounds so sweet. .
It's a triple 3 :)
@@markpulling12 oh my 3 😅😅 cant believe there is 3 cylinders nowadays. . Is fuel consumption lower than other 900 ccs?
Hey Mark, I need your advice. I have narrowed my almost yearly new bike research to XSR900 and GSX S950, both pre-registered and brand new. Yamaha for £9800, Suzuki for £8500. I don't care about the quick shifter and cruise control ( I don't do Motorways). Which one would you recommend?
Hi Chris well they are both great bikes ...both equally good ...but that's a big difference on the Suzuki for the price ... so I'd say definitely get the gsxs. It's got an awesome engine
Best wishes mark
@@markpulling12 Thank you Mark 👍
hi Mark, I have a question about the brakes, I recently rode an xsr900 and when I pull on the front brake lever(even very softly) there is an initial grab or bite that I found odd never having come across it on any of my other bikes, is that normal for this bike ? regards David
Hi David I've ridden many bikes and the bite point is always different on every bike some grab instantly others not so
Nothing to worry about here :)
Best wishes mark
Great review mark, that sound is amazing it's a of bike for your money.
It really is! thanks james
Is the wind protection good for long and fast riding?
It's a naked bike ..so it's quite windy ...but not turbulent...you could still go a long way on it
Best wishes mark
@@markpulling12 Thanks Mark, I had a XSR 700 i sold it because of turbulent. After 160 kmh i was trying to stay on bike. I had a neck ache while riding but i cant give up to ride a xsr. I like its style so much. I wish i can test ride but i dont have this chance in my country. If this bike quite windy i think it would'nt be has enough wind protection with puig or some brands windshield.
Great bike Mark but way to fast for me, a lot of self control required. Nice review as always.
Thanks James ....yes it's very rapid !
I wonder if anyone has fitted that brembo master lever combi to an older XSR900?? Looks great, with added breaking! (Which may or may not be an issue as the older models abs is a little bit intrusive, or I’m overly aggressive 🤷♂️)…
Solid review fella
Is the quick shifter blipper jerky at all? I rode a s1000xr and the shifter blipper was so smooth, at a much higher price of course. I am 5’11 with 30 inch inseam. Would this or mt09 fit better? Or neither? I am 207 lbs btw.
The the quick shifter is super smooth ...this bike is low but you should be fine at 30 inch leg or try the mt09 cheers mark
can you raise the seat, looks a bit cramped for a slightly taller person
No but you can get taller seats for these that also do away with the rear seat hump best regards mark
yes, definitely is better on the move to look at , very quick spin up engine , is quite a contrast to the meteor 650 you last tested at the same weight ;; ideal world is to have both ;;
A decent review but personally I preferred the looks of its predecessor. I don't get how you can tell about hunting/ surging while travelling at 30mph in D2 and 2nd or 3rd gear? With Euro 5&6 the issue is the fuel cut off on stop starts. You'd also already stated it was too snatchy in D1
Hi I meant d1 was very sharp / Instant throttle....I prefer the softer d2 mode ....when riding at partial throttle at low speeds you can feel if the fueling isn't quite right but this is spot on
Best regards mark
That bike is an Animal!
