So I decided to rent a bike for the day. Typically when I rent a bike, I like to try something different. I wanted to rent a BMW R 12 nineT but it wasn't available, so I went with the XSR900, and truthfully speaking, I loved it. It was a great bike. It was fast, nimble, comfortable, and easy to ride. I liked it so much that now I'm debating whether I add an XSR900 to my garage or go with a Ducati Monster. Decisions, decisions...
Hopped on one at the dealer the other day and your comment on the seat was accurate. I was supprised at how uncomfortable it was compared to my 2018 xsr700
OC: I’ve been seriously considering a triple after my current SV and not wanting to take that liter bike insurance hit. The question was Street Triple, MT09, or XSR900. I’d have to buy a used Striple but I was sketch on that idea, the MT09 is more hooligan style than I care for, but the XSR seems to be just right.
Just to lend some ease of mind to the idea of buying a used Street Triple, I bought one this year as my first bike, and haven't had any issues with it at all. It's the RX model from 2015 (basically the precursor to the RS) and I put over 6,000 miles on it this year alone. Did my own 30,000 mile service, and it runs great. While I can't possibly compare it to the MT-09 or the XSR-900, I can say that a used Street Triple is a good choice given that you have the ability to pick one up.
I'd say there shouldn't be any issues with a low mileage street triple, I have a 2011 triumph daytona 675, the bike the 765 striple was derived from, it has 15,000km I've had it since July last year, my 2021 mt09 since July '21 and a 2017 SV650 since 2017, which ever bike you go with, you shouldn't have any reliability problems. I'd go with the '21 mt09 though, it's the most fun and well put together bike if you're still young or young at heart, and I'd say it's pretty comfortable too with an aftermarket seat and the suspension tuned right.
Own a Black one since July. love it so much I Find my self just staring at it when going out to the garage. only down sides are the seat is a bit hard and lack of wind protection isn't great most times but it is a naked so I knew that going in
I've heard you say that the MT09/xsr900 has more of a scalpel type of feel too it, totally agree. I've owned my 09 now for a year and it's power delivery makes it feel like a scalpel on the street. Its very precise, hard hitting, but not that thumper grunty feel you get out of some of the other naked bikes. At least compared to the other Yamaha naked bikes

Some people say that yamaha looks ugly and i can't directly find this 80s vibe in this bike. Still it reminds me those supersport bikes from 90s where after some minor crashes people often transformed them into streetfighters, probably due lack of money or time to repair. I kinda like that ❤
I have a 2022 XSR900. Not even 2k miles on it she’s in the garage for the winter at the moment. I put a Two Brothers exhaust for a 2022 MT-09 on it. Fit just fine.
Probably the main reason why you feel you can ride this bike quicker/faster than 09 is it's geometry which is much more sporty. The weight is more on front wheel, kinda like on 07 or 10 and the riding position is slightly more on wrists which i personally prefer much more than 09. When i sat on this xsr it was immediately obvious for me that it will be much funnier and more agile bike than 09. I just don't like that 90deg upright position that 09 gives.
So on an xsr900 I should be able to do 200kph around 75kph corners? I'm already doing 150-170 around said corners on a '21 mt09. Don't think it has anything to do with the handlebar position, think it's all in what you're used to. I outride bikes with double the horsepower ony 2017 sv650 in the twisties, most of the time they're sports bikes or super sports.
Just bought a 2024 as my 2nd bike. I was looking for a light, surgical bike to supplement my R1300GS. Wow, does it deliver! One thing not many people mention... with the bar mirrors, you don't SEE any of the bike in front of you going down the road. Everything is out of my field of vision; literally feels like flying!! Also surprised that there is very little to no buzz in the mirrors at highway speeds. Waiting for the rain to stop to take her back out ;-)

Having rode that, the new xsr900 and the old xsr900 I think the ohlins really does make a big difference especially when you stsrt getting into rough road conditions. Maybe im biased though because I own one.
Got one on order. Had a previous gen MT09, but got rid of it because the suspension was lacking and the chassis, while great fun, was just a bit chaotic. Looking forward to a CP3 bike with a more settled chassis, and hopefully better suspension calibrations for aggressive use.
@@2Petya I like the XSR way better. The chassis feels very stable, like my R1. The shock and fork are pretty good after dialing in close to max rebound damping, and some compression damping on the fork. The shock isn't adjustable for compression damping, but if anything, there is too much any way. Fine for going fast on smooth roads, but a bit much for easier use on rougher roads. The only real downside is the EURO 5 tuning... just like on the MT10, R1, etc. If you like to really ride hard, you will notice there is electronic bullshitery taking place that modifies power deliver, at least in the lower gears. If I had to do it again, I would go with the XSR... but again, my MT09 as the previous, not current generation.
@@leanit5756 thx for the reply. I test rode the current mt09. Awesome bike, but had handlebar wobble multiple times. Didnt like that. Guess the xsr is not like that cos of the longer swingarm. Currently riding a tracer 7. Had crazy strong engine brake and insane on off throttle. Had it ecu flashed, but only disabled deceleration fuel cut. Left the oem map, left the O2 sensor enabled, everything. Only with the decel fuel cut off, it got way better. Lesser engine braking, and got much smoother, no more horsekick from 0% throttle.
cool video man, it gives a good insight into how you experience the bike. I also really thought the saddle was a minus point, so I had it adjusted, new cover, new designs and more padding on the front and the back made even wider.
Got to ride a 2016 today which I loved. I think the round digital display looks better than the square, but the mode selection would be nice. The reason it doesn't work in the rain is the lack of protection in the front. A small windscreen would be nice. Is it optional or did they do away with it?
I often wonder if ppl adjust levers handle bars and suspension before saying anything negative about riding position vs the mt09 just food for thought u can do simple things to make your ride fitted to u and yes sometimes half inch is a big diff and yes that's what she said lol

I was considering a RS660 but my cousin bought one while I bought the XSR900. The RS660 is a great bike, raw and punchy with the benefits of having weather protection. I have the benefit of swapping with my cousin and I can say I’m stoked with the XSR. The CP3 engine (torque) and induction sound is incredible , and the quickshifter is just buttery smooth. Yamaha for the win for me. Ride safe, from a passionate rider here in New Zealand 😊
@@BrateX98it has rider modes so take it easy and you should be good. keep in mind that’s a fast bike I would personally start on a smaller lighter bike cuz it will make you a more technical rider
As a mid-life (crisis) beginner rider, I've been hedging my bets on getting a CB650R or Trident 660, would this be too much? I've heard it's quite snatchy on the throttle? Never looked at it before as I don't really like the MT's, but his looks amazing! Probably too powerful but riding modes help
Man, it depends on so many things. Any bike can be a big mistake. They don't go faster than you are capable of IF you have self-control and don't actually twist the throttle too far. If you are older, have a fairly clean driving record and know deep in your heart that you have reasonable impulse control, you would probably be ok. Also, as a beginner on a 425 lb bike, you need good strength and be able to flat foot it or come damn close to it. You could go with a Ninja 500 and that would be fine as long as you realize you will be replacing it in 12 to 18 months. I mean if money is no object get a Ninja 500 and learn on a true "beginner bike." Then replace it with the XSR900. That would be the common wisdom. As a frame of reference, I have been riding for 50+ years, and have had ZX-9R, K1600GT, and an R1250GS. About a dozen motorcycles over 200k miles. AND I am somewhat concerned about this XSR900 being a tad too much. But I am buying one tomorrow all things said (66th birthday in 2 days.)
@@msromike123 great wisdom right there, thanks man. I can drive it as fast as I like, but with 25 years driving behind me I’m more of a cruising kind of guy, although find cruiser bikes too low. It’s such a nice bike but my funds will determine if I get it or the CB650R. Even looked at 401 Vitpilens and sub 500’s but I know they’ll bore me after a few months. My wife would lose her sh1t if I changed my bike after a year so I need to choose wisely 🤣

I totally get what you mean by exhaust and age correlation, I have LeoVince gp Corsa mufflers on my Ducati Monster 796 and I'm legitimately tempted to go back to stock. Definitely too old for that shit
OC: I'd say the XSR900 is the 2nd best CP3 bike behind the MT09 SP. Though I'm pretty basis as I own a MT09 SP. I like just about everything with the XSR900, just not the tail. It may seem a little odd, since I ride a MT09 SP and the looks of all the MT line-up is polarizing. With some loving the look, while others hate the looks. IMO the XSR900 is beautiful, just with a ugly tail. I just can't see making a sideways move going from MT09 SP to the XSR900.
If I didn’t buy a Street Triple 765 RS a few months ago, I would be buying one of these in spring. I’ll still take the triumph over it, but this seems like an excellent bike and a huge improvement over the old one
I’m a huge triumph fan having owned two speed triples a 955 and 1050. I havnt risen in a few years and I’m stuck between this and a street triple. I wish triumph would do a retro street with similar looks of the trident but with steer triple performance. I just love the retro styling and the insurance on this bike is significantly cheaper.
@@ryanblacklock3005 I’m only paying $113 a year for liability and comprehensive. I don’t think you can go wrong either way. The triumph will be the better performer and have a higher quality fit and finish, and better parts. The XSR is still a great bike from what I can tell and has the styling you like. And it’s cheaper than even the base street triple. Decisions decisions. I’d vote for the street but I’m biased

I'D SAY THE XSR HI SEAT IS FAR BETTER THAN THE MT09 !
Got one on order. Had a previous gen MT09, but got rid of it because the suspension was lacking and the chassis, while great fun, was just a bit chaotic. Looking forward to a CP3 bike with a more settled chassis, and hopefully better suspension calibrations for aggressive use.
How do u like it over the mt09?
Love this bike would’ve owned one, but couldn’t find one. Ended up with speed twin.
OC: I just love the retro styling of this bike.
I had a blast just watching. Thank you
The Thumb Wheel works way better if pushed in a more, upward direction, as this prevents the wheel from turning so easily.. 👍
A modern Honda Sabre would be a killer sport touring bike
What about the Triumph St.Triple and Ducati Monster if compared to the xsr900?
I wish the new Tracer was coming to America. I want this motor but I'd like to do miles in a little comfort
I love this thing but damn, the gold wheels not matching the forks redlines my OCD!
Bought one and wow! 🎉
Still have it ?
cool video man, it gives a good insight into how you experience the bike.
Optional unless you get the cafe version .
CP3 + agility + stability? Sounds good to me.
I often wonder if ppl adjust levers handle bars and suspension before saying anything negative about riding position vs the mt09 just food for thought u can do simple things to make your ride fitted to u and yes sometimes half inch is a big diff and yes that's what she said lol
xsr900 or r9 when it comes out. no question.
Oh man!!! I have never seen a better review than yours... In a way, I bought the bike after seeing your video. Thanks mate. For heaven sake, please tell me what phone mount you have that matches the bike color?
This is very high on my list for my next purchase, I bought an Aprilia RS660 this year and I am just looking for a bit more.
@@Wgtntrader yeah, If I could redo it, I would have bought the XRS as well ... more power and reliability, what's not to like!
OC 18:21 I kinda agree. Money and skills no object, I'd get the XSR900 for dailies and the Tracer 9 GT for tours.
Get a Humvee and a 65' Corvette too .
@@kalnwi2023😂
Great bike 😍, this will replace my Aprilia RS 660 for 2023 👍🏻. I bought the blue color and I'm looking forward to the spring here in Germany ☺️...
im about to buy rs660 for my first buy, do you recommend it for beginners ?
@@BrateX98it has rider modes so take it easy and you should be good. keep in mind that’s a fast bike I would personally start on a smaller lighter bike cuz it will make you a more technical rider
@@NateHiggers74 thanks buddy
does anyone know why the speedometer is turning green? and sometimes just white? I just bought mine :)
Xsr 900🔥✊ are more sporty and firm then Mt09 too uppright (great review dude)🤙
LOVE YOUR MIRROR POSITION. !
@@raynbow6I started on a brand new CBR500R, having ridden 3.5K kms I’m ready to move on to a bigger bike.
650R would be a good hike for especially if you get the new E-CLUTCH variant
XSR900, MT09 or R6?
I really like the look of this but I don't like the rear end where it is kinda bulky compared to the slick look from the front
Daam , that's a lovely bike 🤌🏻
I really love the look of this one. But I hear the seat is hard for longer rides. And probably hard to keep within the limit 😂 I have a hard enough time on lesser bikes.
Im pretty sure there are aftermarket seats out there now, iv seen some bikes with diff seats on it, still looks awesome 👌🏾, safe riding
@@Kwasimotor that is true. Good idea. Hard to find one in my area though.
Ayeeeee 3 in the afternoon here in Queensland Australia
G'day!!
Rim colour should match the fork colour. Other then that it looks great.
I totally get what you mean by exhaust and age correlation, I have LeoVince gp Corsa mufflers on my Ducati Monster 796 and I'm legitimately tempted to go back to stock. Definitely too old for that shit
What about luggage options? Your mt -10 can carry more and has a windshield option
This bike is so good looking... image with a rear fender delete
Did I miss talking about the bar end mirror and if they are any good? I would love some like that on my MT-09
Thanks for the video! How long could you endure the seat? Is one day touring possible on it without pain? 3 hours non-stop is ok?
3 hours you can make on absolutely any seat. But 1 day touring (~10 hours riding) without wind protection that is pain.
@@hordi1ful I cant make 3h on my Yamaha R3. My butt gets numb after an hour. This never happened on my previous Honda Monkey 125 with a very soft seat. So I am considering the MT-09 which has an optional comfort seat. I really like new XSR900, but this seat is limiting factor for me.
what are some bikes which you would say are bad weather bikes ?
Nice base for a scrambler project.
I reckon the Ducati SS950 is the pick at 750 to 1000cc
I hope they bring the rumored XSR GP o r the r9
Is it a good bike for 300 km ride???
I just think the v4 is the best configuration for a motorcycle engine. Honda could bring back the magna but with smaller displacement hell they could use the interceptor engine
12:30 should've been horizontal instead of vertical. Would that simply solve the problem?
Corbin makes a seat...it isn't cheap, but it is fantastic. Greta vid. Subbed.
what is your favorite bike in the rain?
The tail is the best part one in black would be mint
I'd love to see this with an scrambler-style upswept exhaust.
A wire brush fixes the exhaust, they should have cleaned it up after they welded it butt....seat hawk air cushion fixes the seat...throw on some legend hard bags from SW...Dart flyscreen.....lol
Is this good for a new, older rider (early 30s)? I think the ride-by-wire auto shifter/bliper makes me feel like this would be a good one and done bike.
Im 40 and had this bike since march this year, its my 2nd bike from a MT03 and Wow what a machine this xsr is such a fun agile bike.
How tall are you chase? I’m a hair under 6’2. Think it would be comfy?
Make the mt10 a follow camera bike fitted with 360 cameras for better action shots.. instead of the car
Really interested in getting this but I am being told I am too tall. I am 6ft but I enjoy lighter bikes for better handling and control
Put a air hawk seat cushion on and handle bar risers.
I'm in the market for a XSR900 or an MT09. I think the MT09 better suits my length of 1.92m (6ft3 I believe) but I'm not really sure. How tall are you and do you think the XSR would be a nice fit for taller people?
OC: It seems your thoughts have changed with the second gen XSR900 over the first gen. I remember your first ride of the first gen and it came across that you did not care too much for the styling of the XSR900.
Hey,
What's the helmet you are having.
Thanks!!!!!
Man I really wish ohlins used a realistic gold
Respect the bling sister .
What is your manual mode TCS settings??
i can't wait to get my hands on this!!
It's definitely one good looking bike.
I dont know why Yamaha still can't make a decent seat
It be nice if you could do a 30 day review of the CLX 700 Sport. I agree with about 400-900cc is all you would need for the road.
Will there be an extended/one month review of the CF Moto CL-X 700 Sport?
We didn’t have time to get that one filmed while we had it but we will be doing a one month review on our CFMoto 300SS sometime next year!
YO YO YAMAHA 🎉
UTILIZEa “ Scroll - Wheel “ and add an additional “ Set “ Button to capture the Setting that is chosen !!!!! Simple Dimple EH ?!? Superb Review 🎉

Would this work for me or can you suggest a similar Bike that would be a better fit for “ TALL “ Riders ?!?!?

That's the Woodstock First Baptist parking lot.:)
I’m in the case of possibly getting a MT07 or THIS BUT THE 700version. 🤷🏽♂️😳 I can’t decide
Owned Mt 10 currently own gsxs1000 , thinking of this xsr 900 as a replacement. Riding the roads of Wales in the UK could be quite fun in a more lightweight package. Owned a benelli 899 back in the day and found the torque to be an issue compared to the litre class super nakeds. At 67 years old would you say the weight saving over your Mt 10 and the way the 3 pot engine makes it's power more fun ?
The CP3 engine is just fantastic!
Light, agile and fun…. for any age, this bike matches.
So I’ve been waiting on this updated bike for 4 years now. Test rode the last gen and didn’t enjoy the looseness/plastic styling. Then this came out. Am picking my blue900 next Thursday and riding it home to Los Angeles from northern Cali. It’s winter…
If you dont mind me asking why from norcal if you are in LA? Im in LA too and thinking of getting an xsr900 sometime in future.
@@Kentaku3 Dealers in southern Cali are marking up the sticker price. My local dealer added $4k on top of sticker. most SoCal dealers are marking these bikes up. Northern Cali dealers do not mark up sticker prices. Honest human beings up there.....
