  • This tenant was about to be evicted for the state of her apartment. Her sister contacted me to see if I could help her. The tenant had experienced some trauma and, for the last few years, she has been experiencing major depression. Keeping up with cleaning her home became overwhelming for her and she just shut down. She is a wonderful aunt and loves having her nieces visit. Now that she has a clean apartment again, her nieces are able to have sleepovers again without sleeping in clutter.

Hi Bonnie, thank you for another great video! You did amazing work in there! I personally appreciate the owner’s story, what’s going on. Folks who don’t care and only want the cleaning can go watch the copious amounts of extreme cleaning videos from China that are being ripped off of TikTok and posted here on UA-cam. I binge watch those myself from time to time, but it’s a rather disconnected experience. I watch you and Barbie and Midwest because I appreciate your empathy and sense of connection and the incredible amount of work that you are usually doing solo. You restore my faith in humanity. Sending lots of love to you and your family 💖🌻

What a sweet message. Thank you so much for recognizing that it's not just about the cleaning, but about giving someone a little lift who desperately needs it. That's why I called my channel "A Beautiful Mess" because I think we are all "A Beautiful Mess" or a work in progress if you will. These are the kind of comments that make me want to keep going! Thanks so much!

A trash receptacle in the kitchen-even if it's only a large cardboard box lined with a garbage bag-would go a long way toward keeping the trash from accumulating again. A small wastebasket next to the chair in the living room would help, also.

I'm the opposite kind of person as most people who are depressed. Instead of leaving it, I clean. The act itself slowly brings me out of it with every space I clean. I just recently cleaned my attic after a VERY close friend of many years passed. I don't know if this will help others, but the act of cleaning gets me out of my head. And like Midwest says, I just start with one place, clean it well and move on. Hope that helps someone get motivated.

Sorry I don't look perfect today, sorry I say this word too much, sorry I don't smile enough, sorry I smile too much! Sorry my voice is too loud, sorry it's not loud enough, sorry I'm late, sorry I'm too early.

I left you a previous message on another video you posted. I let you know I found you through Mack and Barbie. I confessed to Mack that I didn’t realize that having a home like the folks in the videos are suffering from a mental illness. I was someone who got frustrated when I saw such homes and thought they should just clean their house. I no longer feel like that because of the information I got from Mack. I have an enormous amount of empathy for the people. Ok you caught me. I eat a bite of brownie batter.😀Well you did a good job on this home also. You’re special.

There is still a lot I'm learning about Mental Health and how it affects different people. Doing this free cleaning is opening my eyes to a whole different world. Mack is incredibly articulate about explaining the ins and outs of mental health, especially hoarding issues. He has been a great mentor. Thanks for your comment!

thank you for your reply. I am so glad your channel is growing.!! My only suggestion is that you might consider your introduction, your explanation of this resident's situation, description of your process, etc. to be narrated after you have started showing the house and the cleaning process. I just think there is a group of people that will just see a face speaking and switch to another channel without having the opportunity to check out how well done your videos are. I think the attention of the viewer needs to be engaged right from the start with the actual cleaning job, and maintained throughout until the end, which is the most satisfying, the before and after pictures which are your forte. By the way I am sure I am not the only viewer who appreciates the extra time you give to the before and after, instead of 3 seconds at the end, which some cleaners are doing and does not really let us enjoy just how clean everything looks.

After watching your videos I usually get a cleaning spurt going, it can easily get away from you if you start to slip in keeping up with the mess. My daughter loves to cook and bake but never cleans up after her self and will leave dishes for days all crusted, piled in the sink and a mess. so I like to clean and will go over and do the dishes and she cooks dinner and a dessert for us, this way no money changes hands but we help each other, sometimes I've noticed people have too much stuff and really need to de clutter to prevent the overwhelming amount from piling up, as in the amount of clothes etc. Love the work you do and take care everyone.

I've known a few people that have problems, their house is always unkept, cluttered, lots and lots of stuff. I've noticed with myself and others that when your head is chaotic or depressed or adhd....whatever, the house is a mess cuz we are a mess inside.
Now I was raised by a mom that cleaned when she was angry. She said she was "taking it out" on the dishes or mopping the floor. It was therapeutic for her. What has worked for me is "a place for everything and everything in its place". If I want a new blouse or new anything then something has to leave the closet or dresser drawers.
Now living on a fixed income I appreciate my personal discipline. I'm not destroying the budget, I'm not cluttering, the house is tidy just by putting things in their place after use.
But my cleaning obsession comes from my mom.
For some reason I love to clean and organize. I used to clean homes , one per day. My dad encouraged me to get bonded and have a legit business....but I didn't. I became a nurse instead.
But I'm still a clean freak!

    • @ABeautifulMessExtremeCle-zl1wp
      @ABeautifulMessExtremeCle-zl1wp  5 днів тому +1

It's always interesting to hear how different everybody is when it comes to cleaning. I do feel like a messy home is a reflection of what's going on inside the mind and that, by cleaning up those spaces, it does help with your mental health and gives you more energy. But I know that that is so much harder for people who have things like ADHD and don't always "see" the mess. I think I like cleaning because I have a sense of control over something. I also think that's why I clean when I'm depressed when others might want to just lay in bed all day. I feel like cleaning or organizing something gives me back a little sense of control, and a little dopamine hit, which in turn helps my mental health. I'm finding so many ways that mental health and cleanliness are tied together.

Poor lady, I hope she is doing better today. I don’t know if she still checks the comment section but I have a suggestion for her. There is bright light therapy, like at least 10,000 lux lights that you shine in your face every morning or whenever the natural wake time is. There used to be blue light therapy but I think that fell by the wayside for a different part of the light spectrum. It really helps with SAD, circadian rhythm disorder, and depression. I hope she will look into this. Light therapy has been studied by our military, federal health agencies, sleep scientists, Harvard University etc. Not all lights on the market have the brightness claimed so you have to weed through the junk. If you can Bonnie, can you pass on this info so she can discuss with her MD? Thank you, I hate to see anyone suffering like this.

I can’t believe the amount of washing you did. Great idea hanging out the washing. Nearly everyone does it here in Ireland and that’s one of the reasons we are obsessed talking about the weather 😂 Maybe now she will be able to declutter some of her stuff. She is lacking rubbish/recycling bins in the kitchen and as someone suggested a cardboard box with bag in it would be perfect.
Have a great week. Mary, Joes wife 🙇‍♀️👏💪👍🙏💐

I noticed this home like the last 2 you cleaned has mostly temporary fold up furniture, I'm wondering why that is?
Also the work from home thing I think can be bad for mental health and bad for general cleanliness of the home. At least getting away to the office allows for seeing people and dirtying up a space office cleaners care for lol.

You're right about the laundry. And I hadn't thought about the working from home being bad for mental health, but that probably does contribute to declining mental health. I have worked from home for 20+ years and have loved it, but I think that's also because I have a husband and kids and then cleaning is part of how I stay on top of my mental health. It's different when you live alone though. It is really sad now that I think about it. ☹

Regarding the "temporary" furniture: There are a few possible reasons. 1. Financial - it's cheaper. 2. Living alone and not having friends or family nearby to help move furniture, so it's easier to purchase lightweight stuff and set it up yourself. 3. If the house is messy, they may be too embarrassed to have furniture professionally delivered inside the home.

I watch your videos to make myself feel better. I'm 76 yrs old & the caregiver for my spouse who has dementia. Did I mention I also have long Covid? Some days all I can do, besides caring for my husband, is to cook dinner & reboot the dishwasher. I feel better watching your videos because my house is no where near the condition of those you're cleaning. I do understand having anxiety, depression, & constant stress--how could I not. Yet I can't understand how anyone can't throw garbage away--see take out meal plates simply piled up. I also can't understand how a family of 3 can create 20 loads of laundry. Yes, my house is not clean & I cry about it but I do what I can. I think some of the people you're doing free cleaning for are lazy grifters--not even trying. I'm afraid you're going to be emotionally hurt. Your heart's in the right place but protect yourself.

That's a lot of stuff you are dealing with right now! It is hard to understand some of the situations you see here. About 90% of the people I have helped I know have been very, very grateful and it was just the boost they needed to get back on top of things. There are a couple, however, who I don't have a lot of Hope for that they will keep it up, but I'm still always happy to lend a hand and at least give them a chance to make a change.

I can't believe how much you got done in such a short time! I bet the apartment smelt amazing from all that laundry - I love that smell. Wish you could come to the UK, we tend to dry our washing outside or indoors on clothes horses if it's raining etc, so you wouldn't be able to do 15 loads in one day I'm afraid. It's fascinating seeing the different cleaning products in other country's and comparing them to the ones we have here. Thanks for another great video. 🙂

I would love to visit the UK and see the different ways that people live. It's fascinating to me as well, especially when I watch cleaning channels from UK or other parts of Europe, how different the houses or apartments are. Seems like almost all of it is Apartments since the population density over there is much higher. It's starting to become that way where I live. I'm guessing about 80% of new construction is all apartments or condos rather than single family homes.

@@ABeautifulMessExtremeCle-zl1wp if you ever do and end up coming anywhere near the east Yorkshire coast pop round and I'll make you a cuppa with a biscuit or two! A lot of the cities have flats (apartments) in tower blocks especially places like London but most towns and villages are a combination of houses, flats, bungalows and cottages (cottages are usually found in quite rural places or small villages and Hamlets). Our homes do tend to be a lot smaller than in the USA and I am totally envious of your closets, some of them are bigger than my craft room lol. Another big difference is many kitchens don't have dishwashers though they are more common than they used to be. Same with clothes dryers, even people who have them often prefer to dry their clothes and especially bedding outside. It's probably different in the UK cities because of nowhere to dry them etc but I've only lived in villages or small/medium towns. I live in a purpose built flat of two storeys btw - there are four flats altogether and there is another block of four flats attached to it. I don't know if there is a similar sort of housing in the USA. Take care of yourself Bonnie, you are a wonderful person x

@@ABeautifulMessExtremeCle-zl1wp ah so that means a duplex is two apartments, I had wondered about what one was. We also have maisonettes which are a flat on two levels (like a small house) with a flat above and then there are split level flats which are again on two levels but don't have flats above - they are often above and behind a shop and if you are lucky will have a garden. There are also stately homes, castles and palaces but they are way above my pay grade lol, some of them are open to the public and are great places to visit, there's one in the village next to my town called Sewerby Hall but I've only visited the gardens and the small zoo there. It is very grand from the outside though.
