PLEASE give me tips on how to get a smell out of a garment!!!! Also: apologies for the audio quality and varying lighting in this one yall, I did my best with the tools and space at my disposal but they do not always cooperate.
I‘ve had success with airing them out (outside) for an extremely long time, like a couple of months 😅 dont leave them where there is sun though because mine bleached really badly lol
i vintage shop a lot, and often pick up stuff with *special* smells... if it's really worth the effort, grab a bucket, give the item a boiling water+vinegar+baking soda bath, rinse and repeat a few times if needed, then throw it into a normal load of wash... i have even managed to salvage items with that horrendous cigarette curse using this method!! if it helps, pretend you're a witch brewing a nasty potion lmao
yesss can we normalize being disappointed with something we settled for at thrift store because we were desperate and really wanted that style and we convinced ourselves that it fulfilled that need in the store but have never worn it because it’s not right but feel too guilty to get rid of it. and finally allow ourselves to actually get rid of it and find something better.
Being highly sensitive, I love hearing a fashion content creator actually talking about how the material feels. No matter how much I like an item visually, it has to feel comfortable in the first place.
Omg now you need to do a “mend and refashion with me” video for that mend pile to help you tackle it! Mend piles always get bigger and bigger, never smaller 😢 I would find that pile so daunting, not gonna lie. The best of luck!
One thing I’ve learned about purchases is you’re not going to get it right every time. As with everything else, it’s unrealistic to expect a 100% success rate! It’s helped me feel less bad about “fails”.
Seeing an overseas UA-camr wearing and mentioning an Edda t-shirt - who are actually an old rock band from my home country, Hungary -, and realizing that somehow it made it all the way over to the USA and into a video I'm watching absolutely made my day. How awesome is that omg.
Distilled white vinegar will be your best friend to get that thrift store / pit stain / general must and germs out of your clothes! Add a cup straight into the washer with your detergent or hand wash it with the same amount!
thank you for that reminder to be mindful of donations to the thrift store. Yes, most of the unsold items probably goes to landfills but a part of what isn't sold is being shipped off to our country in southeast asia and these are the second-hand items being sold here. While I have found a lot of cool pieces from these importations, there so so many useless items that are being sold off like fun run t-shirts, university merch, company apparel, really tattered clothes and like stuff that nobody would really wear. Some people treat clothing donations as a feel-good way to throw away stuff.
i love that i can recognize every single peice and that you really use your clothes rather than just buying and always having new stuff! it feels so much more sustainable and realistic
Liz you come with the most creative coolest outfits with a relatively normal amount of clothes. Also thank you for your point at the end about finding an owner first, we all need to realise it's not as simple as donating to a thrift esp as fast fashion ruins the longevity and quality of our clothes
thank you so much!! & glad that point resonated, it is truly insane the waste the fashion industry creates but I try my best to be mindful and avoid as much as I can
you’ll probably never see this since i’m so late to this video, but when you were talking about hating bras, girl you should get cakes!!! they are such innovative nipple covers, their tagline is “grippy not sticky”, they’re reusable, some in a variety of sizes and colors, and the originals are perfect!! i wear them all the time for 8+ hours and they never come off and never hurt taking off. and honestly not too expensive! 10/10 recommend!! :)
That black turtleneck with the puffy sleeves is my DREAM shirt. Heavens, I wouldnt care if it took me 10 minutes to get into, I'd wear it until it reduced to strings
As a fashion girlie, I have a similar issue with mesh materials, I've found that saturating the scented areas with detergent and thoroughly massaging it in before before putting it in the wash load helps to remove unwanted smells! ✫
Vinegar in the wash is great for smells. If that doesn’t work, you can “strip” your clothes in the tub in (with borax and washing soda) to remove built up detergents, body oils, hard water residues. Its not something you should do frequently to your clothes, but once is ok to get a tough smell out.
girl GIRL. you NEED to get nipple stickers! I swear they will change your life! they are super affordable, are VERY comfortable on your skin (I literally slept for two days in them bc I didn't even feel them) and they obviously make your nipples not noticeable at all. heavily recommend! also, I think that your collection is very appropriately sized, but I've noticed you have a lot of basics. that's not bad at all obviously, but I feel like if you invested into buying just a little bit more statement pieces you could really elevate your look. but even without that, your fits fucking slap and you're AMAZING at styling your clothes! your videos bring me so much comfort, please never stop making them!! love love u
omg what a sweet comment thank you :') I have truly been thinking I should get nipple covers for ages, this might be the push I needed!! Also it's true I mostly wear comfy basics in everyday life haha, my life is so casual the statement pieces I do have never get worn as much. I am so honored you think I'm doing a great job styling them anyway!!! & thank you enjoy my videos so much:'))
@@RatatouillesI like the silicone ones since they're reusable (just rinse them off with water when they're dirty and since it's silicone it just sticks back onto your skin when it dries), but they also sell satin or other fabric/plastic ones that are single use
@@SuperYoshiInvasion This is so interesting. I've never even thought of this, but I also hate bras, and I just wear kids/sports bras made of comfy stretchy stuff, but the straps always annoy me whenever i wanna dress up nicer...
9:23 There’s a few options regarding the shirt with the picture on the back that you like. I’ve done things before where I cut interesting logos or art off of shirts and use them as giant patches. I’ve sewn them onto the backs of jackets or hoodies, canvas bags, big purses, etc. Or use it for a project and turn it into a completely new shirt, bag, or pillow. My husband had this Pantera hoodie that he loved so much, but the sleeve cuffs were falling apart, so I made it into a throw pillow. 10 years later, it’s still on our couch.
i feel like this is a normal amount of clothes, but maybe a little on the higher end? but definitely not as many as one would expect from a fashion youtuber from what i've seen. overall, i'm a big fan of your mindset on clothing and i hope your clothes find good new homes!
so jealous of your cute white poofy blouses, the textures and sleeves are just EVERYTHING, they are insanely adorable! I have a hard time finding things like that in my area lol
as someone who also doesn’t wear bras bc i hate them and find them super uncomfortable, pasties we’re my lifesaver. i wear them all the time now. just some nude, thick, squishy ones. they’re great
if it's just about fixing the smell then i can recommend putting your clothes in a box with cat litter for a day or so, it absorbs smells really well and works even better than airing out or washing in my experience
Smell tips to try in succession: - Soak in a baking soda solution. Wash. - Soak in fabric softener and vinegar solution. Wash. - Soap in a solution with shampoo/conditioner (all the better if it has essential oil in it). Wash. - Finally if none of the above work, the best one: air out in the sunshine (it has to be in direct bright sun) for as long as it takes. The sun does something magic to make undesirable smells go away.
For smells try the vodka method or the vinager/water method. It works on a lot of vintage smells and commonly used by resellers ❤ also the first shirt is a fabric we used to wear in the late nineties early 2000s and it is notoriously bad about retaining bo smells, I remember not wearing mine as often due to this terrible flaw with the fabric lol. Hope the tips help
The cowboy tee, something I been doing a lot latley, is to wear shirts backwards, so you get the good print on the front, sometimes that requires seamripping the tag out or cutting of the neck ribbing. worth it though!
1:44 If you're not going to wear that beige dress you made yourself, it could serve as a very cute canvas for DIY customization. Like printing, embroidery, painting etc...
haha I try to keep it realistic (& it definitely helps that this is still a relatively small channel). & I love that he took them too!! he loves to steal my clothes that he thinks are cool hahah
Ahhh what a timely video! I’m trying to clean out my wardrobe too because it’s exploding and I’m keeping stuff that no longer fits me (natural weight gain, and it’s making me feel guilty for having gained weight) so this might just push me to finally finish.
Much luck to you, I recently sold my too small clothes at a secondhand market and felt a bit bad seeing my favorite pair of shorts leave 😢 but they will be happy and worn
For scratchy sweaters, I soaked mine in fabric softener to make them softer and condition the fabric (other than that fabric softener is useless) To get rid of smells use a detergent from Fresh Wave, you’ll find the right one. It works so well!
White vinegar is my go-to for smells on clothes. I usually just add a cup to my washer with the soap. Don't know how well it will help w more intense retained smells tho, or if it works on all kinds of smells
hey about the nipple thing; you can either buy nip covers which are comfortable or just make an X with 2 simple plasters. I used to do that in highschool
Oh my gosh this is my favorite kind of video, I loooove getting see a person's whole closet! I was wondering what category was gonna have more of a similar style and was surprised it ended up being your white blouses (light color tops make me so nervous I could never!) About the wool coat: I also cannot stand wool touching me, so the one I have is strictly for and only comes out when it's cold enough that all my skin will be covered. Other than that, I think your closet is very reasonably sized- it seems realistic and manageable for the average person but the amount of variety says fashion girlie.
In terms of the fall dress that you're not comfortable wearing because of nipples showing, I would really recommend the nipple covers by Cakes Body! They don't have adhesive like other covers, they're just a grippy material that sticks to you as long as your top is somewhat snug. And they can be reused for basically forever. I bought them on a whim for a dress I couldn't wear a bra for, but now I wear them regularly because they're so comfortable. Anyway just thought I'd mention it!
15:33 what is the fiber content of the cardigan? If it's acrylic, you can soak it in hair conditioner to soften the fiber and make it less itchy. If it's wool, you can use wool soak (available at yarn store) or hand wash it with a couple of drops of lanolin to restore the natural oils in wool.
That thumbnail gave me the shock of my life!! Now I can't wait for all the thrift flip episodes coming up our way~! Also, feeling a little nostalgic about the leopard print dress turned into tops. I think it wasn't long after I started watching your videos that it popped up.
Remove stains (under arms) from garments: (several options - can also combine). 1. Dish soap you'd use to had wash dishes.Have had best results with the kind that has orange or lemon extract in it / "plant based" dish soap. This works well on things that have oil in them. (Dripped butter on your shirt type of stuff. Also body oil. Ring around the collar, Want to get the odor out, have to get the oil out. Cover the stain with small squirt and rub it in a bit. Throw in washer. DO NOT add to washer soap dish, or you'll have bubbles coming out of your washer. 2. Oxyclean. Takes out most anything that is "organic" (food stains, baby spit up stains, blood etc.) A scoop in hot water; let sit for 24 hours. Good option after "dish soap cleaning" if stain persists. 3. Murphy's oil soap. - Requires washing after taking the stain out though. This works on heavy duty things like motor oil, machine grease, shoe polish, cooking oil that's hard to get out. These type of stains. Can also work on things like paint 4. Vinegar - Works great on urine stains / smell. Takes the smell out of stuff. Like if someone is on a medication that can cause body odor (like fish oil supplements). Medication someone might use to clean their liver which comes out in sweat.
For the top that still stinks, hang it outside in the sun. It may damage the color, slightly because it will bleach it a bit, but if you only do it for a few hours it should zap the odors and won't hurt the colors.
OH MY GOD I HAVE THE SAME DESIGNATED DRIVER SHIRT BAHAHA i thrifted it then also found a matching mug at another thrift store shortly after???? they are both so precious to me
thank you!! & omg haha thank u sm, I honestly don't really do anything to style it, I think it's just having the right haircut for my natural hair texture (which for me is very layered, almost a shag)!! I also let it air dry :)
Itchy wool sweaters need soft silk or rayon underneath. The silk is great when you have to go all day in the cold for work or snow play. I am sensitive to wools but while traveling a lovely blue wool sweater from Ireland was my best purchase.
for anything that smells or traps sweat i use the lysol laundry sanitizer combined with oxiclean laundry sanitizer powder and just regular detergent (i usually use 7th generation, ivory detergent, or tide free & clear) in the wash and it gets all the smell out of mine & my bf’s athletic clothing and you don’t have to use much or you can spot treat with it as well for other more delicate items but i also love using that combo for sanitizing thrifted clothing
I’m from WI and accidentally/tragically donated the same white graphic tank top a while back and I’m telling myself that it’s the same exact shirt bc it makes me feel better
I’m super uncomfortable with bras too!! Typically I wear these Calvin Klein wireless bralette things, and I find that they are super comfortable because the fabric is soft and there isn’t any wire or sharp things in them. Might be worth it to check out!!
To deep clean fabric I use a laundry stripping technique with hot water, 1/4 cup borax, 1/4 cup washing soda and and 1/2 cup dish or laundry detergent. I prefer unscented dish detergent. This is what I use to strip towels, stinky clothes and anything that's been washed in gain or other smelly soap
@beepwrld I do have the same issue with exactly one of my t shirts. Even though I add soda and vinegar to my laundry to clean properly, this one shirt is still sometimes smelly. What I found works, is washing it at a very high temperature: 90°C every once in while and then let it air dry. The Tshirt is supposed to wash only at 40°C, but so far the washing on higher temperature has not done any damage to my garment. Be careful though, because I do not know what material your shirt is. Smell is usually caused by bacteria, so cleaning on higher temperatures kills all bacteria and then makes your clothes smell good again :) If the material doesn't allow for cleaning on high temperature, try killing the bacteria by disinfectant or by putting it in the freezer, where the bacteria cannot survive either.
Depending on the fabric wool or natural fibers soak in hot water with wool-lite in a sink and of course lay flat towel dry so the wool or natural fiber doesn't stretch. Okay now, everything else. Firstly, make sure you always leave the door open on your side loading washer keeps it from getting moldy. Secondly, I use laundry bags for everything except jeans and yoga shorts, I live in an apartment and always use industrial washers. Thirdly, I use two Tide pods, some gain fabric softener, and downy unstoppables when I wash. Fourthly, keep colours together in the laundry bags. Fifthly, use one or two dryer sheets and dryer balls. Sixthly, pre-treat stains with fantastik and always use a healthy amount of some kind of oxy powder. Sixthly, always dry with low heat and never do anything but hang dry bras and never dry natural fibers unless socks if wool or natural fiber is less than seventy percent and never any other piece of clothing. Lastly, if very rank add some bleach or possibly soak in bleach and hot water if white or oxy powder and hot water for everything else.
I'm new to your channel and am loving your content so far - feeling so inspired to shop from my own closet :) do you have DIY videos of the tanks you made? they are all so cute!
oh my gosh the “never reaching for handmade clothing items” thing is so. me. I feel so guilty bc I spend soooo much time making them and then I never wear them 😭 so glad I’m not the only one haha 💗
Where I live, when we don't want clothes anymore we first ask family, then friends and if then there are still clothes left the friends ask their friends and so on. We never threw away something for years only if it had stains or not repairable holes:)
The dress in 4:46 literally made me GASP. Also heck yeah for pajama dresses as fashion, I've been into them since I was like 14 haha. The night gowns are so pretty 🥰 With regards to jersey shopping/thrifting, most jerseys are pretty snug in terms of fit so if you want a loose fit you'll have to size up for the baggy effect 😊 I just borrow from my partner tho lol he has way too many jerseys. Also omg finally someone else who also can't wear wool sweaters, wool sweaters are so itchy 😣 Also I love so many of your DIY tops, DIY queen! 👑
Something i like to do with my clothes i dont want anymore is donate them to local womens shelters! Especially if its a fun but still useful piece. When a woman is in a situation where she had to leave really fast and wasnt able to pack much, i wanna make sure she has younger clothes to pick from since i think most donations come from old church ladies (esp in my area) even though younger women are more likely to be a victim of intimate partner violence
When it comes to plain tshirts a bleach tie dye fixes that right up, especially if you're looking to add something interesting. And you can always dye over it if you wanna add more color into the shirt.
Soak the shirt in a bowl of warm water and baking soda for 15-20 minutes, rinse with water and then do the same process with vinegar and water then wash on a short cool water cycle! ❤
Use Clorox fabric sanitizer spray (make sure its the spray bottle form, i haven’t used the others lol) and rub in a bit. Soak ur shirts in detergent and a strong essential oil (tea tree, peppermint, lemon.) Scrub the pits again and rinse.
Smell armpit shirt: if you already have enzyme cleaner which you should because you have a cat, spray on there. Also you can try just smearing some dish soap on the pits before putting it through the wash-- its basically the same as clothes soap but super concentrated.
Suggestions related to bra discomfort because I also struggle with that: - make a bra fitting appointment (seriously I was WAY off on my correct bra size despite measuring and following online instructions etc.) - Harpers Wilde makes good wireless bras (I don't like their wired bras though); I recommend the lounge scoop bra just make sure to air dry rather than putting it in the dryer or else the softness of the material will be ruined - pasties are nice when you just want your nips not to show but don't want to deal with a bra/a bra would ruin the look edit: also heard good things about aerie bralettes
PLEASE give me tips on how to get a smell out of a garment!!!!

Add vinegar to the wash water or do a presoak with vinegar to get rid of odors.
THANK YOU
the cute skirt potato sack on top dress is kind of giving that sheet ariel wore when she first got her legs and i mean that in the best way😂
omg ur so right ..it's a vibe!!
This inspired an impromptu closet cleanout, so thanks for that!
Can also work on things like paint
4. Vinegar - Works great on urine stains / smell. Takes the smell out of stuff. Like if someone is on a medication that can cause body odor (like fish oil supplements). Medication someone might use to clean their liver which comes out in sweat.
You could try adding white vinegar to your laundry for fabric softener. It usually takes care of odors.
the quilted tie front dress just changed my life i need it omg
I assume you meant vest hahah but someone definitely DIYed the ties so you could 100% do the same👀
@@beepwrld lmao autocorrect is my enemy😵💫 but ur so right, will be hitting the thrift store this week
For the top that still stinks, hang it outside in the sun. It may damage the color, slightly because it will bleach it a bit, but if you only do it for a few hours it should zap the odors and won't hurt the colors.
i am sooo here for the longer form content!!
OH MY GOD I HAVE THE SAME DESIGNATED DRIVER SHIRT BAHAHA i thrifted it then also found a matching mug at another thrift store shortly after???? they are both so precious to me
Every piece you passed is something I'd like in my wardrobe LOL
Still loved watching!
The handmade dresses are so cool !! Also, would love to see a hair tutorial (your hair is amazing) :')
thank you!! & omg haha thank u sm, I honestly don't really do anything to style it, I think it's just having the right haircut for my natural hair texture (which for me is very layered, almost a shag)!! I also let it air dry :)
I think you should keep the grey dress vest! It looks so good on you and I really loved every look you ever styled including it 🧡🙌🏼
Itchy wool sweaters need soft silk or rayon underneath.
I’m from WI and accidentally/tragically donated the same white graphic tank top a while back and I’m telling myself that it’s the same exact shirt bc it makes me feel better
omg.... I hope it is that would be so special. & I also hope you find another one someday!!!
The patchwork babydoll dress you made is beauuutiful
thank you so much! :')
I’m super uncomfortable with bras too!! Typically I wear these Calvin Klein wireless bralette things, and I find that they are super comfortable because the fabric is soft and there isn’t any wire or sharp things in them. Might be worth it to check out!!
This must've taken so long to film and edit, appreciate all the effort!! 💛✨️
LOL it really did, the original footage was SO LONG.. thank u for the appreciation!!💓💖
You can try putting clothes in the freezer to get rid of smells. Works on natural fabrics (look up how to properly clean Levi's)
Sol-u-mel works great at getting the smell out. I use it on my husbands workout shirts and you only need a little
GEURRLLL the west bend tank top, AND the house on the rock shirt?? are you a fellow midwest princess...
Oh you know I am baby, Wisconsin born & raised!!!! (I live in DC tho lol)
I love the white long sleeve dragon design!
I think all the shirts you painted are sooo cute lol
I do the same thing with my sister 😂 Sometimes I tell her "if you're ever going to get rid of this, check with me first, I might want it back"
You could try white distilled vinegar to get rid of the smells. Works well getting rid of animal smells from their bedding
been waiting for this video!! I really wanna do one of these try on everything in my own closet
I recommend it!!! Trying on things is helpful to feel the material and the fit, it makes me realize why i don't wear certain things haha
I love u sm for making this video I’ve been procrastinating on cleaning out my closet so you have inspired me ❤
omg hahah I'm so glad, I hope you can tackle it soon!!
Why do I love every single thing😭 you are so amazing and inspiring❤
omg this is so sweet hahah thank you sm
I didn’t notice your little hamtaro guy on your mic at first, I love it 😁
These are my favorite videos of all time! Thank you for the huge effort, it's appreciated 🎉
so glad you enjoyed!! 🎉 :)
With itchy wool I usually layer a turtleneck under, maybe not ideal, but works. If you wash it with softener just be careful to not shrink it ^^
The dress in 4:46 literally made me GASP. 👑
so so happy I found your channel 🥳 love the tips and vibes and creativity ✨
I'm so happy you did too!! I always love your comments hehe & glad your enjoying the vids & vibes ✨
You can get stains out by soaking clothes in vinegar and baking soda. It also helps get rid of odors
Soak the shirt in a bowl of warm water and baking soda for 15-20 minutes, rinse with water and then do the same process with vinegar and water then wash on a short cool water cycle! ❤
1/4 cup of White vinegar in the rinse water can help with garment smells.
Use Clorox fabric sanitizer spray (make sure its the spray bottle form, i haven’t used the others lol) and rub in a bit. Soak ur shirts in detergent and a strong essential oil (tea tree, peppermint, lemon.) Scrub the pits again and rinse.
oh i'd put the read one on 1:08 in good use!
Smell armpit shirt: if you already have enzyme cleaner which you should because you have a cat, spray on there. Also you can try just smearing some dish soap on the pits before putting it through the wash-- its basically the same as clothes soap but super concentrated.
Love this so much ahhhh, will be one of those chill fun vids that I rewatch when I wanna relax 😊❤
omg I love this, honored you'd want to come back to it:')
@@beepwrldi did hellooo
You may want to look into using white vinegar for smells trapped in fabrics.
Suggestions related to bra discomfort because I also struggle with that:
- make a bra fitting appointment (seriously I was WAY off on my correct bra size despite measuring and following online instructions etc.)
- Harpers Wilde makes good wireless bras (I don't like their wired bras though); I recommend the lounge scoop bra just make sure to air dry rather than putting it in the dryer or else the softness of the material will be ruined
- pasties are nice when you just want your nips not to show but don't want to deal with a bra/a bra would ruin the look
edit: also heard good things about aerie bralettes
You should get your colors done and thrift based on that !
