These are great not only for aiding Japanese study, but also for anxiety. I listen to them before bed and it helps calm me down. Killing two birds with one stone!

Right, so on an almost four year old video with just 3.8k views, two accounts with the default profile picture reply to a three year old comment within literally 11 minutes of each other to talk about the same scam.
      Incredible bots

I know I'm late to be asking questions on this video, but it's one of my favorites! I got the chance to ask a japanese person "なんでアメリカへ来たんですか?" and she corrected me to "どうして”
I didn't question her, just corrected myself, but I was wondering why you guys used nande, or why she might have corrected me.
Yeah! Love this podcast, will always use it to keep learning! Thanks so much for pouring your time, energy and resources into this podcast!

oh. oh. two seconds of research.
she was much older. I always thought なんで was the formal "why" but two seconds of research after posting this told me どうして is the more polite version in conversation. So. Bet that was why.
Leaving the comment anyways so you can still see the positive feedback! Been watching for years and will keep doing so!

Just out of curiosity: If there was say a 75 year old and an 80 year old, would the 75 year old still have to speak politely to the 80 year old or as you get older does it matter less that someone is older than you? Btw I am really enjoying these audio podcasts :)

Good question. The simple answer is it is case by case. Remember, you use polite Japanese to someone of higher social standing so age is important but not always. You could be an older person speaking to a younger CEO or perhaps a member of the Royal family, so in that case you'd be using super polite Japanese. As for the 75 year old and the 80 year old, I would assume if they are buddies, there probably wouldn't be much of a change of language between the two. When in Japan and in doubt, just use the language other people are using around you. Hope that helps!
