One of the best reviews that I have seen in recent memory. VERY informative and Wingman's delivery and presence in front of the camera is excellent !!! Covered all the base...Kudos!
I got lucky when I got mine, I went into the 3 Rivers Archery shop just after they got these bows in and a few of them had been mismarked and 3 Rivers had them on sale. I bought one for my nephew and after getting it home and shooting it I decided to keep it for myself lol it really is a great bow very little hand shock and pretty quick. Great review
Archery is just a lot of fun and good times, out with ur buddies stumping or whatever, that`s quality time at it`s best. It`s nice to hear when speaking with such enthusiasm as you do. Nice video.
Outstanding video, very well done, the information was great and easy to understand and how clear the video was shot was great. Watching this video helped me to makeup my mind, I will be purchasing the Old Mountain Mesa Longbow.
Went to buy my Longbow today via the internet and there are no Old Mountain Mesa Longbows in Right Hand available in 40# to 50# draw weight. Please let me know if you hear about any in stock in RH, 40#-50# LBS Draw.
Consistent shooting, and anchoring, like the form you shoot, how you lean forward slightly, you know how to shoot. I see some people on these channels that think they know how to shoot, but they don't. I have a thin fingerless glove that has a thin silicon palm I shoot with, helps reduce the shock when I shoot. Nice video, bow, and info.
I ordered the black ridge hybrid from Lancaster not here yet do to snow but I like yours a lot and I can’t wait to get over to east Oregon out of the valley to fling arrows
First of all thank you for this Preview. 2. I want to say its that the Bow looks pretty awesome. 3. For most of the Archers it is maybe fast enough. But 140-144 fps for me it is to slow. I prefure fast Bows. But it is my choice. At least i want to say it is a fantastic Location in the Wood where you shooting at. I Love this View over The Trees and up to the Hill. Thank you for the nice Work keep it up Greetings from Michael from Germany
@@Wingman115 I think your draw may be shorter than what you think it is. If you're drawing 27 inches and have the arrows cut to 28, the end of the shaft would be 1.75" ahead of the valley of the grip. But you have at least 3 inches hanging off the front of the riser. You're probably only drawing somewhere between 25.5-26 inches.
Great video man , Johnny from 3rivers was telling me about this bow yesterday while I was at the tradbow expo in kalamazoo. For the price it can't be beat. Could very well give other bows in that price range a run for there money. Kzoo is a show you gotta make sometime man. If you love trad archery as much as I you will be in heaven.
Good to see some more archery content at long last...i'm just not into guns, knives and the hunting thing (other than my Hultafors GK knife for digging out rogue arrows from wood), it won't be long before tooth picks are made an illegal carry here in the UK. I'm surprised at your arrow spine choice...I would have guessed that a 500-600 spine would have been a better tune considering your draw length is so short.
John, Not sure if was intentional. But posting this just after LAS had live coverage of the Barebow Class at the 2019 Lancaster Archery Classic was impeccable timing!
Great review & demo my friend! Nothing like the stick & string thing ...something soothing about it for sure! I have many Longbows...I'm partial to the Bama Bows myself, not sure if your familiar with them? Will check out the Old Mnt @ 3 Rivers...Booyaakah my friend!
Love this video ! I have two recurves and a Bodnik Longbow D flex Reflex longbow and just love going out shooting. The longbow your using looks amazing !
Very good video. I've been waiting for this review since you bought this bow and I told you about it on FB. I am addicted to archery and I have many bows in th epast. However, I sold most of them and kept only three of them, all set at 55#. The others were at different poundages, so I got rid of them. I see that I'm not the only one to go in te middle of the forest with a portable target. Stumping is fun, however it can be devastating for arrows sometimes.
I agree that arrow speed in the range of 140-145 is pretty slow for a bow of that poundage, even at your shorter draw length. For hunting I would compensate by using a heavier arrow with a view to capitalizing on momentum rather that kinetic energy. It does have a handsome handle riser and nice string, as you say. My brand new Bear Kodiak Magnum also came with a very crudely made Flemish twist string. No attempt was made to taper the twist out at the string loops, and it looked like it was put together by a beginner in a knitting class, with loose ends dangling out. I suppose if it frays enough it might contribute something to string silencing...Nice to hear that Old Mountain is paying attention to string fabrication. Will Bear step up the plate any time soon?
@@Wingman115 definitely if price was not an issue, That’s how I feel about the black widow PL longbow, it’s a phenomenal Bow I just can’t bring myself to spend that kind of money
I own a Bear Montana in 50# also and it's my favorite bow, tho I love recurve as well. I've been eyeing the Mesa for awhile and was wondering about its performance compared to the Montana?
Does this bow have a loud "clank" sound when shooting? I just got one and get that noise everytime I shoot, doesn't matter if I have a weak spine, stiff spine or a perfect spine. I've also tried different knocking points thinking it was too low and bouncing off the shelf. When I pluck, not dry fire but pluck the string, I think I can faintly hear that sound.
This isnt my first long bow but it is my first with a heavy reflex deflex. I have silencers, brass knock and bare shaft tested it. They fly and land straight bare shaft.

Almost pulled the trigger on this beauty until you said, shelf not cut to center. what a waste. moving on.professional custom builders cut slightly passed. thx for honest info.
Nice looking bow. The price reflects the country of origin: China. If you have those arrows cut to 28", you are drawing closer to 25" than 27" which would explain the lack of speed. For a 432 grain arrow, 140 fps is not fast. Your arrows are also way over spined. Even if you were drawing a full 28" and the bow was cut to center, you would still be over spined with a 400. Run it through 3Rivers spine calculator and you'll see what I mean. Since you don't say how far from center the bow is, I ran it as though it were center shot. The bow's dynamic spine is 56.3# while the arrow is 94.8#. For tuning, you would want the numbers to be within 2#. Granted, calculators are just a place to start, but nearly 40# difference is huge. If it's not cut to center, the difference would be even greater.
@@Wingman115 if you don't mind replying, do you know the spine and length of the arrows you settled with? I'm new to recurve archery and want to get the right arrows for this bow.

What is your arrow weight? Bow weight, draw length and total arrow weight are all factors for fps speed.
Somewhere around 400 grain I have a shot draw so my arrows are about 28.5 inches long. 125 grain tip. Speed was slow due to my short draw length.
