- Boiled dinner can be made with a variety of ingredients. However it's generally made by the same method. Today we are making a Ham Boiled Dinner. It's the perfect way to use leftovers and bits and bobs of vegetables.

I love boiled dinners. I’m 58, and prefer a lot of my dinner to be boiled, especially ham & potatoes, with cabbage. -Stephen, Ohio
I agree. They make a great, tasty combination. Thanks for your comment.

Mercy this looks good. My mom used to cook with a little bacon fat. That ham from Aldi looked very good. Need to try this. Thanks for sharing. New sub.
Thank you very much Daniel Clooney! Much appreciated and welcome.
I have been looking for a recipe for that for a long time. Thank you so much for putting it on here.
You are very welcome Carol. Glad to help.
Delicious & easy to make 👍🏻
Thank you 😊Diana!
Made this today, love it.
Thank you Molly! I’m so glad you enjoyed it.
You are delightful! Thanks for this simple yet delicious meal I had forgotten all about from childhood. Nutritious and easy. Can't wait to make it for dinner. Greetings from Massachusetts.
You’re very welcome Pearl. I visited Massachusetts many years ago. It’s a beautiful state. My grandma’s name was Pearl and my granddaughter’s name is Rachel. Lovely names. Thanks for being here.
Ham and cabbage with potatoes is the best. My grandparents were German and always put vinegar on it when they ate it. I still eat like that now. Thanks for sharing. Peace and love from Baltimore as always.
Thank you Buford. I’m going to try the vinegar on mine next time. God bless and thanks for being here.
@@simplefoodsimplelife9632 no problem. I hope you like it.
Yummmmm :)
the very best.....
Thanks so much!
Very nice. I grew up eating boiled dinners. Don't think many do this anymore, unfortunately. Love to make this with Kielbasi too.
Thank you Conrad. Kielbasa sounds wonderful as well.
Here on the east coast of Canada its made very often im making one rite now
I feel like I just arrived at my family's house. Irish. All the way.
Thank you. You are very kind.
In UK we boil bacon joints with vegetables cooked in same water. They get the flavour of the salty meat. The Irish boil potatoes in their skins with theirs and then cook the cabbage in the water after the meat is removed.
Thank you Marilyn for sharing with us. It sounds so delicious.
Very interesting. I was thinking it was going to be a straight up soup or stew. I never heard of "boiled" dinner. That was totally cool what you did...I'm going to do it tomorrow, I hope it turns out as good as yours look.
Thank you Hal. I think you will enjoy it. I’m sure yours will be delicious!
Looks so tasty, I'm going to have to make some.
Thank you. I hope you enjoy it.
Making this tonight for my husband and I ❤
Hope you enjoy. Thank you Miranda!
I want to be your friend Mrs. Lady! You said bacon fat 🥓. I’m copying you with this meal! I love you too! I’ll be back!
You're very sweet. Thank you.
Sorry we couldn't make it to eat that delicious ham. That boiled dinner looks quite good. Simple Food Simple Life is my go to place for the best home cooked meals.
Well thank you!
That butter dish is fantastic!
Thank you Randy! It belonged to my late mother-in-law.
My favorite happy meal.
Thanks Kathleen. Happy meal is the perfect description.
I love boiled dinner, but haven’t made one in a long time. Never used ham, I usually use corn beef....I’m going to try ham next time. We have a brand new Aldis here now. ...and yes I love cabbage too 😆😃🤣🌵✌🏼 Thanks for the great video!
You’re welcome! If you try it with ham let me know how you like it. Thanks a bunch!
Ham is great too. I buy a large spiral cut ham and make sandwich spread, breakfast omelets, dinners, and boiled crock pot dinners with it. Good corn beef is harder to find.
I make mine the same with some mustard on the side with 1 or 2 hard boiled eggs (peeled ofc) Thanks 🙂 John in England x
Your boiled dinner sounds delicious. I like the idea of the mustard. Thanks so much!
Robin you are awesome🙏♥️
Thank you Coral.
It looks delicious! I think you should invite me to dinner ;) You make it and I'll be more than happy to eat it and then clean up the dishes.
Amen
Aldi’s ham is delicious! I love boiled dinner, that how we have it in New England. So delicious!
Aldi ham is delicious Nick. I agree. Thanks for taking the time to comment I appreciate it.
My mom use to make this when I was a kid and OMG it was so delicious
Yep it’s pretty tasty and very easy to make as well. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Thank you for the video, I like that you use water because I really think that there is enough salt and flavor in everything else.
Thank you Brenda.
Mom, and her boys now I guess, make this with picnic ham. Simmer 10am-4pm in half vegetable broth and water couple inches over ham with onions and celery. Remove ham, toss the bones and any fat, strain liquid through cheesecloth. Return ham and broth to stockpot. Add potatoes, cabbage and carrots, simmer another hour.
We love you too! 💗
Thank you so much. You have blessed me.🌼
My Dad loved a boiled dinner🙏♥️
That’s a good memory of your dad. Thank you.
Making this now with some potatoes amd cabbage from the garden, a can of carrots at the end and ham steak. I don't have anything else but I added some onion powder salt and pepper and it came out great! Reminds me of what my grandma used to make for me. But hers was much better and didn't use canned carrots and she used real onions lol
You are spectacular Not Me! How creative using what you have. Your grandma would be proud of you. Thank you so much for sharing with us.
@@simplefoodsimplelife9632 thanks for helping me figure out how she used to do it
@@notmefrfr You are most welcome.
Making it again tonight! Got real veggies this time instead of canned stuff
She's good
This looks so simple and Delicious! I'm definitely going to make it! What kind of beef did you use to make it? Was it ground beef, steak, chuck, sirloin, beef cubes/stew meat?
Actually I used leftover ham. However you can use beef if you like. An inexpensive cut works well because cooking it this way will make it tender. Thanks for asking.
Haven’t had this since I was a kid.. Never had it with ham only corned beef and no celery. No clue why. Just the way Grandma made it in MN.
Thank you Sushi! All grandmas had their own way of making boiled dinner, that’s for sure.
What time is dinner?! Im on my way! ❤
Lol! Awesome!
What could I use instead of bacon fat
Good question. You can use any fat you prefer. Thank you for asking.
Didnt have ham or corned beef. So I just threw some bacon in there for the fat. Porkchops are on the bbq lol
The bacon is perfect Christopher! Thank you for sharing with all of us.
Ilike corned beef and cabbage not much different than this but one thing I refuse to eat is red corned beef. Red corned ,well I wouldn't serve that to a dog. It is a waste of a brisket.
I only eat the gray corned beef--- a night and day difference------- make that for me sweetheart.
I like corned beef hash but not a fan of corned beef overall. I do like the boiled dinner with beef.
It’s the same recipe as all the others just 3 times as long
I have made 339 videos in 5 years. You must be the only person who has not only watched all of them but has compared them all by length just so you could post your asinine comment. That’s real dedication.
Also, I liked it, cause you gave me the option to dislike 😉
