Hi Hugo, been watching you from the very beginning & this is my first ever comment on your fantastic & inspiring videos. This Q&A and in depth technical video is the type of 'value-added' content you should have more of in your mix of videos! No one else in the Mini world has or is doing them! Watching someone sailing is great but learning from them is even better. There are many small boat owners, like myself (mid 1990s water ballasted 8m sports boat) who love to tweak and improve their systems and what better way to learn than from someone on their Formula 1 of sailing, the Mini6.50. The systems may seem obvious or insignificant to you but In fact you need to go into more detail, (steady camera pls:). My questions from this video are: 1) how do you stop your autopilot RAM from adding friction/resistance to the tiller when manual steering? 2) what is the bearing/sealing at the tiller pivot as it goes thru the deck? 3) how does the thin aluminium bowsprit cope with the large downwind sail area and large righting moment of the boat, plus how does the folding method work? Many thanks and good luck with the Sponsor hunt. Your bilingual and top quality video content creation abilities would be a real value asset to a potential sponsor. Many thanks.
Your English pronunciation is really improving ,some say never loose that cute french accent but it is actually condescending .In any language most regular folks think something is wrong with you is you cannot speak as they do.It is my believe that you have reached the level where you need professional help to overcome the last idiosyncrasies of American English. Why? will you say! Because you deserve to be taken seriously at the international level, you owe it to yourself! You deserve it.
Brilliant! More Q&A geekery please. In particular, your bowsprit seems to rotate rather than retract. I would like to see more about that, and why it is better than retracting.
Wow 3D system answers all my questions thanks I had no idea! It makes sense on a cruising boat to clear the side-decks for walking. Those sails are way way sexy. Thanks Hugo!
I've been in love with the mini 650 since I first discovered them several years ago. Now, I just had the pre-purchase survey completed on one! Your videos are a good inspiration for me and I learn a lot, so thank you!
Hi Hugo, two major advantages to 3D trimming on a cruising boat: 1- you will never stub your toe on a sheet car whilst carrying the beers to the foredeck to watch the sunset; 2- you can unhook the out-haul and hook the rings to the gooseneck, allowing you to clear the side decks whilst in port.
So cool, now I know why you have a bazillion lines running to the cockpit, and a lotta balls.... thanks for the tour sir, now I feel I could totally rac... naw can’t lie lol, good luck Hugo!
What a coincidence that you mention fishing boat turning their AIS off and just a few days ago Boris Hermann has just collided with a fishing boat while all his anti collision systems were on, including IAS...
Hugo makes me think that you could do more racing demo vids during lockdown? There are lots of cruiser versions but working your 6.5 meter pocket rocket is a level up and I’d love to see more!
Great show Hugo. More like this please. I'd be interested in you telling us how you organise your sleep pattens and things like how you deal with cooking and personal 'necessary' things while being thrown about inside the boat. Something on how you manage weather plotting and strategy would be great too. Thanks
about the 3d system, we just have a regular jib track in combination with an infocker, which functions the same way as your "inner" sheet. Works rather well! :)
At the very end of your video you were probably in your house doing the last shots but the camera moved as if you were still in the boat, ah ah ah! It was very funny!
Salut Hugo. Marc
Hi Hugo, fantastic video. More geeky videos please. I'm building a Globe 580, which is like a poor mans 650 and I'm looking for all the little details. Thank you and please just slow down your video movement and do a slow look over all the boat. Jim
Great video, really love more in depth explanations, would be interested to see how your jib reefing and main reefing systems work. Best of luck with your campaign
Very good informative video and very well articulated too. I liked the constricting cleats and the 3d sheeting. My questions would be as to how much fresh water and nutrition will you take with you and where will you store it?
I really liked your video! Geek mode is educational mode, I love it. I live in New Zealand and own a cruising ketch, designed to Bernard's 'Joshua' and I really want to design and build something for long range sailing that's fast like your boat. If you were not sailing across or predominantly down wind would you still choose a scow bow? I think they are growing on me. Cheers for your videos, stay safe and wash your hands.
Hugo please could you cover some more in depth explanations of how you got into the Mini Transat world in terms of costs and qualifications? Where can we find information on your upcoming races so we can follow you live and do you plan to rejoin the Clipper race after Covid craziness is over? Thanks again for all the great content. Itching to get back on the water but currently in another lockdown so your videos help a lot of us who can’t get out on the water currently. Thanks Tim
awesome episode, loved it! learned a lot! Perhaps it would be a good idea to try get your hands on a GoPro Max. you can really play with how wide the angle is and you don't have to worry about framing while sailing! just a thought!
Great tutorial Hugo. In the next one could you talk about the shape of the hull in terms of maximising hull speed and the design of the keel for speed and to of course keep the boat up right? Also how good is the boat at sailing various points to the wind and strength of winds. Would it be any good in a heavy sea with stronger winds or would a traditional cruising boat be better albeit much slower? Many thanks.
Chinese boats use AIS but list themselves as Lesure's vessels when they fish another country's water. Saw that on old seadogs he was wondering why all those fishing vessels were using the wrong identifier.
L' as- tu vendu ? Cordialement . Olivier
Fantastic, i learned a lot, especialy the 3D trimming and soft constrictor clutches. Thank you, boat geekery rules! More please.
Same here, great episode! I hope that more similar - technical vids are coming soon :D

My inspiration. I’m 16 and I’ll ready want to do what you do Hugo💪🏼
Same
Hell im 60 and I want to do what he does...lol
Hugo, you have many SAILBOAT GEEKS out there ...more like this please
That was great! Thanks a lot, Hugo. I’d love to see more technical videos on the mini, navigation, tactics, etc. You’re really a good communicator

Thanks for explaining the constrictor clutches.

Maybe you could do a more detailed video about what sail in which conditions and what angel?
Would really appreciate it
Remote autopilot controls are useful on all very long boats as your ;-)
Thanks Hugo. I’ve learned a lot of racing boats!

Brilliant Vid. As a superannuated yacht and dinghy racer. I love the techy stuff.
Excellent questions and excellent answers, thanks!
A brilliant video, very informative! Many thanks for taking the time to explain in such a clear way.
I've been learning about sailboats and sailing while I restore a 26' Bristol. I learned some things today, thanks!!
This is one of your best videos!!
You training me learning a lot (I'm 65 soon). Great video and insight into the Mini, which is an amazing platform.
Thanks for the geek out. Really good to understand a bit more about 3D trimming.
Great mustache dude! Thanks for showing off the hardware and tech on your boat.
This Q&A is very helpful to understand 3D .😊
Glad it was helpful!
Loved this walk through of all this good enough!
Fantastic! This was my favorite video of yours. Watching from California, I sail a VX One design.
Hugo makes me think that you could do more racing demo vids during lockdown? There are lots of cruiser versions but working your 6.5 meter pocket rocket is a level up and I’d love to see more!
Awesome boat tour and I reckon first q&a vlog whilst gybing!
Brilliant. The 3D trim on the jib sail is very clever. And as I have a leaking car on my cruising sailboat, I may well experiment with this method
Fastastic video. Thanks very much for your clear explanations. Great Job.
Thanks for taking the mystery out of sailing a performance rocket. Great info!
Brilliant, Hugo. Very interesting. Thanks for the generosity of your time and effort.
I learned a lot from this great, informative episode - Many thanks (tres bon) :)
Intresting vid Hugo. Nice to learn/see other/new systems.
Great video!
Can you make a video of hoisting and lowering spinnaker.
My favorite. 3-d rigging is so cool. 63yo man speaking.
Fantastic! Thank you. I would like to know about that bow sprit and also the deck plan of the halyards, sheets, and any other rigging and trim lines.

Nice video, hope you keep making more for us geeks!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge !!! :* :)
thank you for the 3D system! 👍
Just my 2ct I quite like the in depth technical sailing stuff so more running back stays, autopilots etc please :D
Really interesting to see you perform some of these maneuvers.
Learned so much from this video thanks Hugo
Great q&a session. thanks!
At the very end of your video you were probably in your house doing the last shots but the camera moved as if you were still in the boat, ah ah ah! It was very funny!
Very interesting for a couch sailor like me. Thanks.
So informative and very kind of you…Merci !!!
Salut Hugo. Marc
Loved this video. Just bought myself a mini and this was amazing. Thank you
Great episode!

Thanks for replying to my question
Great video, really love more in depth explanations, would be interested to see how your jib reefing and main reefing systems work. Best of luck with your campaign
Brilliant episode, very helpfull, thanks hugo..
5:30 Chinese finger trap. So cool. Would be so easy to repair at sea. Could be used to climb a mast?
Very good informative video and very well articulated too.
I liked the constricting cleats and the 3d sheeting.
My questions would be as to how much fresh water and nutrition will you take with you and where will you store it?
Great episode. Love the 3d system. Even my old boat could benefit from that.
Excellent! Merci patron! Keep the dream alive.

Awesome episode. I just fount your channel. Love it!
Enjoyed this episode. But you didn't mention, were you faster with the large genoa only, or the smaller genoa AND the jib?
Awesome Hugo! Brilliant video i learnt some new stuff. I want a mini!!
awesome episode, loved it! learned a lot! Perhaps it would be a good idea to try get your hands on a GoPro Max. you can really play with how wide the angle is and you don't have to worry about framing while sailing! just a thought!
Bon vent
I'd like to see an explanation of how you do the spinnaker set and drop solo
That was so insightful, thanks!
Super vidéo!
Great info, thank you.
Great stuff!
Great video. What brand are the solar panel and mounts. Very neat system.
Thanks for a great video!
My hands already hurt from looking at all those small, sharp lines

the 3d system is slicker than owl gravy. Alot of boats use a 2D system with a tweaker hooked up
Thanks!
BIG UP
Good stuff...
Love your videos
Yeaaah living the dream 👍⛵⛵
gracias muy instructivo
Thank you.
More like this s'il vous plaites! Very interesting!!!
Merci Hugo! Super vidéo 👍
really interesting, thank you!
Perfect!!!

5:30 it's like a Chinese finger trap toy u get as a child
Really interesting, thanks.
Hi Hugo! How did you mount your displays in the entrance?
Thanks
