I prefer in person. One of my biggest pet peeves is when in a phone interview, I give a well thought out constructed answer to something and the ONLY LONELY word the interviewer has to say is "Great or Awesome." They sound like a deflating balloon when they say it so it comes out like they are saying "Greeeaaaat." They might as well be saying "Fake" in that same tone of voice. It's very frustrating to have to deal with something like this over and over again and makes me wonder what am I doing wrong? Why does the interviewer not have more words other than "Great or Awesome" to engage with in response to my well constructed answer? This somehow tells me that the interviewer lacks engagement skills. Am I crazy?

All the places ive worked ive never sent a thank you note after the interview and the one time i did send a thank you note i did not get that job.
Heres what i believe about thank you notes, giving the best anaswers possible to the questions asked is how you move forward a job search. If a company likes what you said during an interview they will move forward with you if they dont like what they hear you wont move forward, a thank you note will not change that. The reason being is that a companies hiring process is just that a process meaning its procedural business. A thank you note is not part of that procrdure and in some cases could be taken out of context, which works against someone.
I know im really going off about this but it seems to me like common advice is to follow up with a thsnk you note and i dont think its necessary.

Few more points from my side - stand up and smile while talking, ask questions to show engagement -something like details around the business or how can you help the company grow and improve your team. Be genuine and make sure you really care. Great video! Short and to the point.

Video starts at 4:46. Research the company; research the interviewer; do the call in a quiet room, test your phone, schedule time for it; print out your resume; don't interrupt and answer the questions; connect the dots-make sure your point out how your skills and interests are a good fit for them; be sure to emphasize that you sound enthusiastic; send a thank you note.
