Come along with me as we take a look at all the products that Costco has to offer for barbecuing and grilling! If you're already a Costco member, you may see a few things you were not aware of. If you're not a Costco member, this video will help you understand why Costco is a great place to shop for many of your barbecuing and grilling needs. This video is not sponsored by Costco, products shown were in store early April 2023 in San Jose, CA.

A correction: In the video, I said that you can buy eyeglasses at Costco without a membership. That is not correct, you must be a member to purchase eyeglasses and contact lenses. You CAN visit the optometrist for an eye exam without being a member.
Chris, great information. I am a member of both CostCo and Sam's and have learned which outlet has the better value (price and quality) on specific items. I go to one or the other each week on average. I especially like your comment on Kiolbassa smoked sausage. I live in San Antonio and the Kiolbassa family started their business here in 1949. While I think that Jonhsonville is a close second,,,,,,,,,,nothing trumps a Kiolbassa product!
The other good thing about Sam's Club is that they will discount their meat when it gets to within a day or two of the sell by date. I usually go to Sam's early on Thursday and they have a large selection of discounted Steaks and other meats.
@@alancalvert953 Alan, great tip! I did not know that about Sam's Club but will follow-up!
Great video, Chris!
Great Video Chris, I have to watch again all kinds of great products and ideas.
Our Costco (Seattle area) has whole chickens reliably. We love them smoked over cherry using your hot and fast method. Yum!
Thanks for including Old Glory as a BBQ essential!
Good video. Our local NJ Costco has a nice selection of frozen fish and shellfish. The fresh baked baguettes are also really good.
So much to like about Costco.
The meat choices are amazing. I went once with a friend and spent $400. My wife told me no membership!
Chris you should do a video on Costco Business Center if you have one near you
I may do a video at some point. For now, folks interested in the Costco Business Center can read my forum post about a visit to the CBC in Hayward, CA in 2014: tvwbb.com/threads/field-trip-costco-business-center-hayward-ca.50480/
It’s pretty interesting that when you compiled all of these items it does show Costco carry a lot of smoking and grilling products. When I’m in the warehouse getting my hour of walking I don’t think about all of these things combined but I always check for individual items to see if they’re on sale.
Funny you say “getting my hour of walking” because I do the same! I grab a cart and push it around the store with some urgency, not a leisurely stroll, going around the entire perimeter of the store, then down every aisle at a pretty good clip. I can get in a good 30-35 minute walk this way. Decent exercise-another benefit of shopping at Costco!
Costco stores in my area usually carry Prime briskets, except that they have been getting Choice instead, for the last couple weeks.
However, on rare occasions they get Wagyu briskets for under $7/lb. The quality of the smoked pulled pork is not bad at all, to the extent that I don't bother to smoke pork butts.
The chuck short ribs at Costco are 4 bones each plate. The Business Costco in Hayward sometimes carries the 3 bone short rib plates. Sam’s has a few handy things too. They have hotel pans and the hard to find 1/3 aluminum plans. Sam’s also has the bone in pork butts but not always. Generally the meat is better at Costco than Sam’s. I remember the choice briskets were around $2/lb at Costco and would buy 6-10 briskets at a time. Restaurant Depot is another option but not always cheaper than Costco. Did a brisket from US Foods/CHEF’STORE that a friend bought and it was one of the worst looking briskets I’ve seen. Huge gashes in the meat.
You may be right about the number of bones. Today I went back to confirm and they no longer have them in stock! 😔
Jealous of the 3 bone prime grade chuck ribs. We just have choice at the same price per lb. It just takes a while to go through the display case and find the ones with the best marbling.
have you been to US Foods? It looks like they have a bunch of stores in California. It's not a Costco replacement--but for bulk beef/meat it is supposed to be good. Amazingly, they only have a DC, not a store, in my Atlanta area.
Their stores here in California are called Chef'Store. They used to be known as Cash & Carry Smart Foodservice and were an independent division of Smart & Final. I shopped at Cash & Carry in San Jose years ago where I purchased a chuck roll. In many ways, it was very much like Smart & Final except that it had a large walk-in meat cooler. The best place I think is Restaurant Depot, you can get in there for free if you're a KCBS member. Huge meat selection by the piece and by the case. You've got one at 1455 Ellsworth Industrial Blvd NW, Atlanta. Also, Costco Business Center (which I failed to mention in this video) has a big walk-in meat dept. but not as significant as Restaurant Depot. I featured Costco Business Center here: tvwbb.com/threads/field-trip-costco-business-center-hayward-ca.50480/
I may have to try the RD day pass option (the only way I could shop there). Made it to our costco biz center; neat place, but not worth the schlep (a few miles south of the airport, quite a drive from your typical Atlanta fan-base).
Most Costco cashiers will absolutely not split a purchase between a member and a nonmember. In fact, the member could have the membership revoked for trying this.
Thanks for this comment, I'm sure you're correct on this point. Let's call this an "attempt at your own risk" maneuver. You've got to be stealthy, you can't be seen exchanging your credit card right in front of the cashier. I frequently split my cart between personal items (using Costco Citi VISA) and business purchases (using a credit union VISA debit card). They never question me and never check the name on the ATM card...of course, I'm standing there by myself. Might be good for the non-member to stand in line for hot dogs while the member is checking out! But to be sure, it would be safer for the Costco member to pay for everything in a single transaction then settle the bill with the non-member later.
I do it with my dad all the time
Somebody's working for Costco...
Well, somebody's working for Costco, but it's not me! As I mentioned in the video, this video is not sponsored by Costco and they did not pay me to make it, same for the products mentioned in the video. I'm just a big fan of Costco for all things barbecuing & grilling related.
