Rubbing down the inside of a Weber kettle grill with vegetable oil before the initial burn isn't necessary or recommended by the manufacturer. The practice of oiling comes from seasoning cast iron or steel cookware to create a non-stick surface and prevent rust. However, Weber kettle grills are coated to resist rust and do not require this step. The main thing to do with a new Weber kettle grill is the initial burn-off, as mentioned earlier, to remove any manufacturing residues. This ensures the grill is clean and safe for cooking. Regular cleaning and maintenance after each use will help keep your grill in good condition.
Love that color, I gotta clean mine as soon as the weather breaks next week. Gotta do some work on the 26 as well, the ash sweep fins aren't sitting tight. Great pick on a Kettle brother! Cheers
@@RicsBBQSpecialties i had the pit loss then got an Oklahoma Joe highland offset, I love that pit and have had amazing cooks on it. But wanted the kettle too.
Thanks for the Video. I just got the same color. Do you usually use the 2 charcoal holders? I get for indirect heat you would but I’m talking doing Steaks all over the top. It does make for easy clean up. I’m still new at grilling. I’m just curious if you get equal heat everywhere if you use the holders. Thanks again.
I usually do use both. When doing steaks I put them together in the middle and the steaks around the perimeter. When smoking I put one on each side and the meat in the middle zone. Thanks for watching!
I understand burning in a grill to burn off any factory residue left behind, but can someone explain why "seasoning" is necessary on porcelain? No disrespect meant. I season my cast iron and carbon steel products, but I've never heard of anyone seasoning porcelain. Is porcelain even porous enough to accept seasoning? I feel like it's just a waste of canola oil.
Hello Josh and Thanks for watching. It may not be totally necessary to season a porcelain grill. However I do it to all my Weber’s strictly to burn off any factory residue. I also believe it helps with an extra layer of preseason? Again not totally necessary but it certainly can’t hurt either 😎
Hello! Cooking spray will work fine. Don’t think there’s much of a difference. I just prefer the oil because that’s what I’ve always used. But I have used the cooking spray on my bigger pits.
@@RicsBBQSpecialties Thanks for the reply, Ric! Haven't used charcoal on a regular basis in 30 to 40 years and my wife just gave me a Weber Performer. I'll check out your other videos!
@@RicsBBQSpecialties Are you sure weber don't wash them down in the factory process before packing? I don't see anything in the user manual that says you need to do this.
Hello Ryan, when you open a new Weber there are oils and residue inside of them. You may be okay not doing it, however I think it’s best and it certainly doesn’t hurt it.
SirRic!!🥰🔥🔥 SpaDay for a Webber Kettle.. and ain't she a beauty?! Gorgeouscolour. 😍😍And listen, if I got a oil and tender massage half as thorough.. I'd be roasting happily too. Looking forward to the cook. Love to family!!💋💋
Hello, you can cook right after the burn off. Just give the grate another wife down with a dry towel. Just be careful it’s still going to be Hot. Thanks for watching! 😎
Man. I have kettle envy. How many cookers are u up to now Ric? Always luv your content and looking forward to your clean sweet of the UA-cam pitmasters comp.

@@RicsBBQSpecialties Got new one posted.
Good video, thank you. However - wouldn't it be sufficient to maybe clean it with some soapy water and heat it up like really hot?
I suppose it would be okay, I’ve always cleaned/seasoned all my grills with oil😎 Thanks for watching!
Man I’ve been wanting one of those!!
I needed another one. I left my other one in Mexico 😎
I love Weber kettles. I love mine. Just wish I had a temp gauge.
Me too! That was one of my first grills. 😎

Keep them open, Thanks for watching and hopefully subscribing 😎

It’s a porcelain paint on the outside guy.🙄

How long do you let it burn for until you feel it's ready for food?
Hello! At least for 30 Minutes. You just want to burn off the residue from the factory oils and people touching it before you.
Thanks for watching! 😎
Is it too late if I did one cook? I had no idea you're suppose to do this.
Thanks for watching! It’s not too late, and it’s not a have to do. I do it just to help burn off any stuff left from the factory.

So can you cook after the burn off or should you wait until the next day?

Copper! Nice Ric!
Thanks Johnny!
IM GONNA HAVE TO BREAK DOWN AND BUY ME A WEBBER

Will smoke kill the oils on it or should it have some fire to it
Hello, you need both fire and smoke.
Welcome to the Copper Club!
Thanks Brother! It’s freaking sexy 😎
Does vegetable oil work or is canola required?
Hello, any oil will work. You really just want to help burn off any residual dirt. Thanks for watching!
