Excellent Bert! I’m headed out for a couple of weeks on Sunday. Hope to get up through Dent and maybe the Broughtons for a few days. Just wanted to let you know your subscribers are waiting!
Patience, patience! The summer is not over yet and sailing is still to be had. I am, in fact, editing the hours of video into something presentable, but the weather is still to good to spend much time at a keyboard. I did manage to get out to Barkley Sound, get lost in the fog on the way back, and then sail up to the Discovery Islands north of Desolation Sound this year. I'm hoping the first episode will be ready early September.
Great video!! I’m planning on single handing my sailboat from Coles Bay to Desolation Sound return hopefully in a few months once the weather turns nice. When was your trip? I’m going to follow your itinerary as I have never sailed these parts. Any revisions you would make in retrospect? Any tips for the trip would be much appreciated :) Rob
Hello Rob! I'm headed up there again for 2023, Natasha joining me in Campbell River. If you wish, send me an e-mail and I can provide plenty of info on going north. bvermeer@shaw.ca
Let's just say that you'll need a long stern line and a good holding anchor. Some of the anchorages will be very, very crowded and, when you think you're all set with lots of room around you, someone will anchor close enough to cause concern. Don't get me wrong, it's a great place to cruise! Waiatt Bay is next to Octopus Island Marine Park with lots of room, same as the far reaches of Rebecca Spit. But not where everyone wants to anchor, right at the little cove at the end of the peninsula. If you want anchoring room consider going just north into the Discovery Islands, like Small Inlet and Lancelot Inlet.
Should be. Another usually quiet bay is going to be Cameleon Harbour, part of the Thurston Marine Park area. Out of the way for most people going north, and too far for those staying in Desolation itself. @@raddude206

Just like being there! Loved it.
Hey Barry, you're two years behind!! Just kidding of course, I'm busy editing the 2024 cruise, all seven parts! Enjoy Europe!
I love your videos! Thank you for not adding too loud music over dialogue. The scenery is spectacular.
Thank you for your comment. Trying to get the sound right is the most difficult part of the editing!
Hello Bert! Missing your videos in 2024! See you on the water

The videos are better with your granddaughter! But always enjoy them.
I'm better with my granddaughter aboard as well! Alas, she can't always be there!
Great video! I'll be going up there this summer. Is it way more crowded in July/Aug?

Part 4 of Sailing to the Broughton's is also Desolation Sound from last summer, July, a bit more crowded.
@@BertVermeerSailing Thanks! I'll check that out
I have 300 ft of stern line, think that'll be enough?@@BertVermeerSailing
