It’s also possible that this deer has become acclimated to humans. If that is the case it’s probably due to being in an area where hunting is illegal or non existent with a chance people have been feeding it.

Agreed, this Deer is not necessarily sick or diseased.
Because if Deer are exposed to humans enough they kind of "acclimate" to being around them, they are less skittish and are sort of "docile."
Though even then I would not trust them fully being so close to me and I ESPECIALLY would not trust male Deer around their mating season being that close to me.

I doubt it I live near a city but there is a tiny plot of forest that’s only like a mile by a mile nearby. It has trails so people are always coming through it and whenever I go there it’s always impossible to get closer than like 20 meters before they sprint off into the forest. I think it just in there blood to run away from something as big as a human.

Or the opposite could be true. If this deer has never encountered a human scent before, it might be less fearful. Most animals that fear people do so because they've learned that human scent = danger

The Sitka Black Tail deer that live on remote islands in the Tongass National Forest have largely existed without the presence of humans. They generally don't consider humans as a threat and actually will often allow humans to come very close and appear to be much more curious than afraid. Sometimes they will actually approach humans who remain still and talk to them softly. If a human remains calm and non-threatening in their presence they will not flee but will simply continue whatever they are doing without any fear.

There was a video of a hunter who was approached by a deer and it kept looking behind it back towards the woods. It kinda edged itself away from the hunter when he touched her ears and she seemed on very high alert.
I think it might've ran from something and might've needed help from the hunter.. pretty ironic considering what he was there to do.. but my guess was there was a greater danger in those woods that day.

Or, the more likely explanation, someone has been feeding this deer and its become used to being around people.
Rabid deer tend to act erratically. It doesn't look malnourished.

if there is rabies in a region then you should not approach fearless wildlife. but if not like in some countries, it can also just be also an injured or dehydrated animal close to death. you also see these after fires. close to death animals (and humans) can loose all fear. perhaps nature put this in because if a predator eats it there is not much lost if they die anyways. but there is a chance of help. i cought birds and squirrels and mice that where in shops or so and close to death because of no food and water. you feed and water them 2 days and they are fearfull again and the walk/fly away. injured animals like foxes after car accidents or so can get tame in some cases when helped back to health for some weeks.

So, that means almost ALL the deer are diseased?!? Orrrr, perhaps they're just used to us now and realize that there's always a chance we might have food? 🤔🤭

The deer here in Northern California are somewhat skittish. It depends on the location. I've been able to sip on my morning cup of coffee on the porch of my friends house with deer just a few feet away. People feed them unfortunately. Deer ticks are no bueno to have around your home

Then there is Japan where deer have come accustomed to humans since they know we won't hunt them. You won't know if it's a disease or not until you get a sample from the animal for testing. It very well could also be the case that it's simply a deer that is constantly around humans due to deforestation.

The other way that some deer lose their fear of man is by people feeding them.

A few weeks ago me and my mom found what looked to be a rabid raccoon. (We live next to a forest) the raccoon would pace in circles, and wouldn’t mind if we got close. I gave it some cat food, but from a distance. It was ran over the next day, but all night it would pace in circles, making no sound, and not being scared of anyone or anything. But it was slightly scared of loud sounds I think that’s pretty normal for animals though. Are these symptoms of rabies?

My MIL lives in a very small mountain town. The deer in that town wander around town without fear. There are a couple that will take food from your hand. It's just that they are so used to people.
I still don't recommend petting wildlife.

I think if there are deer that are friendly then they should get health checks. This way they can treat them if they are sick then leave them alone to go on their mery way. We do it with other wild life, why not prey wildlife too? We can even tag them so both hunters and fish and wildlife can track deer population and habits. The tag would also be so hunters can refuse to cull a deer that has had medical intervention if that is their preference too.
