My coworker had just bought a used Toyota Tacoma. Before work she dropped off her truck at a mechanic shop to get an oil change. In about an hour she got a call telling her to come to the shop because they needed to show her something on her truck. I ended up driving her there. we both looked at it and what ended up happening was when the mechanic put the truck on the lift, the truck was so rusted underneath that the cab and the bed broke in half. She had the truck towed to the used dealer were she bought the truck from and manager said that it wasn’t rusted when they sold it to her almost week ago. I told him that’s impossible and they knew it was rusted because some of the rust had new black paint on it. She ended up calling her dad who’s an attorney and then they gave her the option to split the bill to fixing it. Her dad said to take the truck back and give her back her money back since they sold a truck that was unsafe to drive and if they don’t he’s going to sue them. They ended up taking the truck back the same day and had a check when they walked out.
I bought a rare truck because I didn't want to pay the price of a jeep gladiator, mine is a 09 h3t alpha hummer truck I believe it's one of 400 made with the 5.3 v8 out 5300 that was a 3.7 5 liter made from 09-10 I bought it from Tom River,NJ I live in Dallas TX area we don't get much snow or ice definitely never use salt on roads In Texas when the roads become icy or 2 inches of snow we closed everything and stay home , I decided to replace my leaf springs and discover the frame in many areas are rusty to the point some sections all the way through inter frame mostly in bed area I called a few companies that made safe T caps but nobody makes anything for hummer or many vehicles mostly toyota, jeeps , I bought this hummer 2 years ago the mistake I made not crawling underneath vehicle, I do believe the dealership knew this so now I'm stuck with fixing it, with the right metal bending machine and skills and tools it's a easy repair 😊
What's a job like this cost? I have rust on both sides near the rear end on my tacoma. Toyota said recall is closed so now I'm screwed and gotta come out of pocket...
You can get most of the frame pieces from safetcap.com to get it welded in should be a couple hundred depending on the shop . I don’t think Toyota went about notifying people about the recall very good trying to keep from having to replace alot of the frames
@@colerennecke Mig welder, only takes about 100 - 125 amps. Even a box store GAS MIG WELDER like the Lincoln 180 does all of this easily, and up to 3/16ths. Flux core wire, gasless Migs suck, gas Mig is the best.
Vermont requires vehicle inspection every year, and you can't do any frame repairs and pass inspection. 37 of 50 states have no inspection requirements
Living in Salt country my whole life, toyotas have always rusted horribly. Not saying other brands are issue free, just an observation that Toyota will rust way sooner than other brands. Doesn't matter how reliable the drive train is when the car falls appart around it early.
The way the frame has been put together in layers of metal overlapping with gaps between them doesn’t help well it does help rust faster I guess it’s bad
well that’s to much control for any entity to decide. my guess would be the auto manufacturers lobbying and paying someone off to stop it from happening because that will lower their auto sales if people fix them instead of replacing with a new one some repairs are better then what they ever built

Those Alpha trucks are only going up in value definitely worth fixing even if you had to do a frame swap it be worth it 👍
I like seeing you wear a respirator, but no safety glasses
Nice job what state are you located?
I am going to do this to my Tacoma what do you think about welding a plate over the rusted area then welding on the repair kit sleeve
@@jacksoncommins9225 the sleeve is a tight fit and thick enough on its own. It probably won’t fit if you weld another piece on for it to slide over

Great video !

Did you get these from safe T cap? Need to the same on my 06.
Yes 👍
Are those supports made of stainless steel?
No that would be nice though. If auto makers actually cared about quality things like this wouldn’t happen

нужно рамы изнутри обрабатывать и все будет хорошо ))

My neighbor's frame rusted out and Toyoto replaced the entire frame for free, because it was under life time warranty.
They replaced my frame to, and the new frame is just as much of a POS 10 years later. Same garbage recycled steel...
Can't do any frame repairs in Ontario Canada at all. You will lose your insurance as an autobody repair tech and possibly your license.
