Even the vhs box, the first of edition anyway, didn't spoil anything. Just was like 'on the run, one destination, what awaits then will challenge everything' and without the dialogue and acting in the trailer woulda looked pretty schlocky. I'm sure later trailers once it was a thing and maybe even later box art ruined all the things but they did well originally at the time. Interesting Fact: Earl McGraw the sheriff shot in the liquor store was the same sheriff in Kill Bill Vol.1 who found the bride dead. So this story takes place after Kill Bill.

    One of your best reactions ever Jen! And I totally see why. This flick came out before mass internet, so no giveaways beforehand. I saw it in a cinema at the time and was utterly shocked and wowed to find out halfway through that a crime film became a vampire movie!
    And, of course, the film confirms what a proper creepy weirdo Tarantino is.

    You may not have seen Rodriguez.. But you have HEARD him. He scored Kill Bill vol 2 for the grand total of $1 (the closing song a cover of Malaguena Salerosa is by Rodriguez's band Chingon). Tarantino and Rodriguez collaborated on several films. The anthology "Four Rooms".. Tarantino has a cameo in "Desperado" and Tarantino directed one scene for Rodriguez for "Sin City".

    I've always been so jealous of the people in 1996 who knew nothing about this movie they went into completely blind thinking this was just another Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino crime thriller and then out of nowhere this turns into a vampire horror movie 😂😅

    Glad you liked it. When it first came out, we knew it was Tarantino so we had some idea that it was gonna be crazy violent and maybe a bit strange (like most of his stuff). Great soundtrack, big cast, dark humour and that twist...it was everything we expected from Tarantino and more.

    Yes you can. I tore a chunk our of my knee on a piece of sharp metal like someone took a melon-baller to it. I had to keep working so I tape the piece back in the hole and when I got home that evening I stitched it with a sewing needle and thread. I've had lots of stitches by doctors and the scar from mine is the least visible.

    Most people going in knew this was a vampire movie but went because it was written by Tarantino (as was Natural Born Killers, both released in the year after Pulp Fiction). Another great reaction Jen, especially after the reveal. Please react to Sin City--try the theatrical version, it has a better flow. Happy Halloween.

    Robert Rodriguez did make the movie Sin City. He also made the film Desperado, that is truly one of the coolest movies I have ever seen. And it also has Salma Hayek, so that’s another reason I love it.

    The big guy with the cigar & war stories, Fred Williamson, had a lot of early roles in 70s "blaxploitation" films. Also, Sex Machine is played by Tom Savini, a legend of horror movie makeup and especially of zombie gore.

  • @nevrogers8198
    @nevrogers8198 10 місяців тому +4

    Loved your reaction! Very similar to mine. Went to see Trainspotting in the cinema in 1996 and as we came out around midnight, noticed this was playing, so walked straight in, as blind as you did.The whole theatre was in uproar!
    Yes there are a lot of icons in this movie, and also many that appeared in other Rodriguez and Tarantino flicks before and since. For example, did you recognise Michael Parks as the cop in the gas station from the El Paso wedding in Kill Bill? It's the same cop - Earl McGraw! He also appears in both Rodriguez' Planet Terror, and Tarantino's Death Proof, all as the same character.
    Tom Savini (Sex Machine) is actually a celebrated make-up guy who worked on the gruesome FX, having previously worked on the classic 70s/80s George A Romero horrors (Dawn of the Dead etc) and many more.
    And the "80's icon" you spotted was actually 70s Blaxploitation icon Fred Williamson. Guess he looks good for his age, as he was a American football star in the 60s.
    Cheech (Google "Cheech and Chong" to see what a cult star he is) plays several parts in this too.

    Oh, man. It's such a treat seeing someone who doesn't know it's a vampire movie. 😂 If you want something a little more grounded but still pretty crazy from Robert Rodriguez, you need to wath his Mexico trilogy. El Mariachi, Desperado, amd Once Upon a Time in Mexico. They follow Antonio Banderas as El Mariachi, who is both an actual mariachi and does pretty well in gunfights too.

    Oh this takes me back to high school. Love it. I’d never noticed that Chechen Marin plays the border guard as well as the guy they meet up with at the end. It was cool to see a young Danny Trejo as the bartender. He always is cool, but it was nice to see him before he put on the middle-age pudge.
