When Less Mileage Is WORSE

- Here is part 2! I hope you enjoyed it. I sure had a good time making it.
In this video, I force myself to cope with the heavy psychological trauma that working on cars imparts to one's psyche. After months of depression from hitting a wall while working on my car, I decide to put on my big boy pants and get back into the shop and do what real adults do. Compromise. The journey with this car has been a long one, and yet I feel like this is barely an ounce of the adventures that this little 1991 VW Golf GL will throw at me. I will continue to post content relating to Yankle, as long as it remains interesting. Thank you kindly for watching, and please consider interacting with the video in some way. How in the fuck does this channel only have 2k subs? Is this... intentional? Like a joke?
Straight roads are for fast cars, turns are for fast drivers. Toyota’s are for practical people, old German cars are for passionate people…who maybe have too much time on their hands. Great vid!
Yeah like I have the time! Lol.
Have you tried changing the front engine mount dude? It can cause the engine to rock around a lot on the mk2s and can cause some crazy feelings inside the car 😂😂😂
I like your stile to make videos, it is professional and fun to look, so please do not stop.
You got it!
My wife's whip was a 91 golf 4dr. Same color.
A rough 90 gti fell into my lap and I've been parting it out.
Kid came to buy parts and after looking at his car, I was like... Dude, this it my wife's old golf.
We last had it in 2011. Kid just printed it and sent pics.
They can get addictive for sure.
Honest to god! I thought you had 272,000 subs - Not 272! Your production quality and videos are WAY stronger than your size! Keep it up!
How is this guy not viral
Use carberetter cleaner to clean your idle control valve, then use it to clean your throttle/intake valve it could be gummed up. Change your fuel filter it's under the car. Subscribed to see this shed running sweet.
Earned a new sub, love a good old nugget
Thanks!
There are a few rubber pieces that are associated with the clutch cable that you probably didn’t get, very cheap very easy to install
Regarding the jerking: I'm from Germany and i have driven/owned quite a number of MK2/MK3s. They all did that. Worn engine mounts are usually the biggest contributor. But backlash anywhere in the drivetrain may cause this. You are never going to get that out of it completely but it is possible make it a little better. Also adapt your driving to it. Just avoid sudden throttle movements and you'll be fine.
This is sick!!!
I think your camshaft timing is off causing your issue. On a timing belt this old and sitting it can harden, Crack and possibly jump a tooth causing the symptoms your having. I'm not sure if youre engine is an interference engine or not, but I have heard of vw fox engines jumping a tooth on the timing belt and surviving without damage. BTW if your timing belt is original you need to change it along with the tensioner and guide rollers. Great content, keep up the good work!
Watching your videos is like watching a very good tragicomedy for a vw fan like me. The way you edit them is a masterpiece! Keep up the good work!
Thanks a lot 😊
This guy makes one of the easiest cars to work on seem so difficult.
High quality editing and footage. Great story telling as well. Video concepts with more general interest I think you could have crazy engagement. Segmenting a video and Adjusting pacing of each segment could be helpful in the future if you start to see click through rates drop mid way through a video.
Thanks, and agreed on both fronts.
That was great! Hopefully this little car can fulfill all your dreams. I was excited when my first car was inherited from my great grandma who only put 60k miles onto a Buick LeSabre. I figured because the low miles that it would stay nice longer. But you are so right on the age making such a difference. Not only did the car break down enough to where it was a little bit of a money pit, but everything plastic just kept breaking
You can get a self-adjusting clutch cable for that car. Last time the engine end of the clutch cable rotted off (rust) while shifting, I drove it home by clamping a small pair of vice grips on the end of the cable. Front engine mounts fail on those cars, and result in bucking under load.
I loved this video realy amazing stuff. Especialy here in Slovenia golfs especialy MK2 are THE probaly most restored and modified cars. Truly the balkan car of choice.
Definitely got to subscribe and follow the journey 😂
Please look into South African VW Mk1 gold market. As we made the Mk1 golf till 2009 so we have such a wide variety of parts and they interchangeable with mk2. What we do is change from Carb to injection it's one of the best 8v systems VW produced (MP9 Bosch) get the cylinder head intakes with injectors and ECU
The US Mk2 Golfs were almost entirely Bosch fuel injection. It's hard to find even a carbureted Mk1 over here.
I tried to import a Citi Golf from SA but they quoted me a million Rand duty! So jealous.
Stopping by to say, let’s go! I’m interested in more videos on this mk2
modern cars have servo-controlled throttle bodies... which smooths things out a lot... old cars have throttle cables... the cable, cable guides, throttle plate itself can all be worn or gummed up... so the throttle sticks until you push hard then it snaps open... like all jobs on old cars it's a disassembly and clean and replace old or broken plastic or rubber parts...
Did a clutch cable on an 86 cabriolet... so much fun... as far as the jerking goes good luck.....
I bought a Mk2 Jetta about a year ago, and all these emotions portrayed in this video makes me feel seen. 😂 definitely felt this all too much. Loved your video!
Keep the car going!
Just got this video recommended and I dig your style. One sub earned.
my new fav youtuber ❤
I'm honored.
My fav new channel 💪🏼💪🏼
Woo!
Handbrake on. Bonnet open. Put he car in forward and then reverse while finding the biting point and see if the engine rocks excessively. This looks like a simple engine mount issue to me. Good luck.
All mounts changed.
@@Qsandbank Hmmm, that can only leave gearbox or CV joint slack then can't it?
That's what I'm thinking, know how to test gearbox slack?
Been driving mk2s for 17 years now... i feel your pain! Is the jerking maybe worn engine/gearbox mounts? Cant get a good grasp on the symptoms in the vid.. 👍
keep going young man; you're doing great!
Thanks, James! Will do.
Mate!!! This video might just blowup congratulations buddy your videos are 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks! :)
I feel for you dude, That was my first car when I was 19th I bought mine for $900 in 1999 wao lots of 9's then when the engine broke down I just gave it away for $300, and I have regretted all my life.
but I own a 1987 BMW E30 for 20 years now and love my old car. Old cars are worth every dollar the feeling when you drive down the road knowing what you have spend time and money makes it worth it every single dollar
Old cars have that vrumba
great video as a mk2 owner myself i can relate to your struggles
Car go boom
@@Qsandbank whens the next vid coming out been waitin for 2 months
Excellent video once again, please keep going.
You got it.
dirty fuel injectors, a damaged fuel pump, a blocked catalytic converter, a faulty mass airflow sensor, broken spark plugs, or even an accumulation of moisture it can be all that and more for the jerk
What is it with VW people and birds? It seems like we all own them haha
Glad to see it driving again.
Is your jerking at the start of acceleration or when the clutch is reengaged?
super interested in what the issue could be
Do you have any future plans? If you're having this hard of an issue with diag you could always slap in a later 02j with cable shifters and a hydro clutch system
Would love to a 2.0 aba in this :)
Future plans is make it look pretty! Drivetrain mileage and condition is good enough to warrent keeping in the car.
The video production is on another level on this size of youtube channel, great job!
I'm trying to grow!
I’d say change the engine mounts and the dog bones 🦴 mount
Really love the vids Quincy, cant wait to see where this project and your channel goes!
Thanks, Elliot!
As someone who daily drives a 32-year-old vw you just get used to the jerking. The best thing you can do is to make that engine run as smoothly as possible. Yours is a bit down on power. It should be able to brake the wheels loose in 3rd gear on gravel and the 0-60 should take no more than 11 seconds
New subscriber here, you'll get 10k subs so soon i'm certain. New creator myself and scared you will overtake me and put me to shame xD Very impressive film making and more importantly great story telling!
That means a lot to me. Thank you, all I really care about is telling a good story.
Really any vw expert is thinking these cars are simple like diy simple. I'm actually stunned how difficult you make this. South Africa we rebuild these things make them reliable.
Welp, i have 678.000km (421.289 miles) Toyota Carina E and i like how its still like less than 400.000 kilometres driven. I drive everyday with it!
Both are cool!
Great videos!
Danke!
Everybody gets jerked when they ride in my golf
nice I've got one like that with 41k miles
well do me a favor and rack up the miles on yours so mine can stay special
@@Qsandbank 😂
Have you changed the transmission/gearbox mount? sorry if you did and I missed it! But might explain the jerking your experiencing when changing gear, if the engine is rocking back an forth as it's a fairly easy part to swap if you have a ramp etc...
I did.
@@Qsandbank fair enough was worth a mention, good luck with the Golf it's had a lot more effort put in to save that than most people would do!
Nothing more soul destroying than a half baked project car. I'll see this one through or die trying! Or go broke idk whichever comes first.
@@Qsandbank I feel your pain there, I have an on and off restoration project of my own. But I've learned a lot along the way, admittedly I spent far more than I should but oh well what was I saving it for anyway 😂
Theyre so common here! But not low mileage!
Hey quincy, cool video, could you talk with Joel about his Channel maybe
I hope its not but it looks to me like a rollback those older VAG Clusters are very easy to manipulate.
Fortunately I have the service records to back it up. Car sat for 6 years till I bought it.
@@Qsandbank lol
Hey, sorry to hijack your comments, Joel channel just got hacked and there are a bunch of scam videos in there, don't know any other way to reach him so I hope that can be resolved.
PS Great videos on here!
By the way as a machine, it probably jurking because you ether releasing the clutch to fast or not shifting at the right rpm.
That is not the case.
This is definitely a hero origin story
ok but can I be like a cool blurred moral boundaries hero?
this is cool
🫡
Sell it quick while your bullet points are still valid, not "replaced clutch 100K miles ago"
My car is going to Rawhide like the old Tempo did.

Always love to see a car build or resto, but like, this seems like a lot of work for a very mediocre (at best) car. Tiny VW
Sorry next time I'll get something bigger
Hey Joel creates' channel got hacked
