The Finns prefer to be called Nordic instead of Scandinavian. I had the privilege to visit the country on 4 work related occasions. Once you get to know the people, they become amazing friends.
This odd word "Scandinavian" is not created by north western Europeans . It's created by people from the US . I don't know how on earth they ever made up such a word . Probably trying to sell products . The US very often makes up a slang word that is often insulting of other countries or cultures just to suit them selves .

I have visited our neighbors in the east a couple of times and I have worked with Finns all my life. Everything about them is fantastic, they are our closest neighbor of many reason, mostly perhaps our long common history 650-700 years. Finns are happy even if they can't see it 🤣 and they are not scared of Ivan. Finland is prepared for the worst, and help will come already within a couple of hours if needed. Excellent and 'well done.' Thanks. Much of my life, I went looking for 'people who look like me' - born blue eyed lifetime blonde with naturally wavy hair. The closest I came in the USA was Michigan/Wisconsin/Minnesota. For decades in the late 1800's and early 1900's USA promoters were coming to Norway/Sweden/Finland to recruit people to these states with cold weather and not many settlers in the USA. My great-grandfather was recruited to leave Finland as a boat builder for a similar position in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in 1890. His only son, my grandfather served in in the trenches during WW1, returning to few/no jobs in the "UP" of Michigan. He migrated to Ohio (as many other Finns did) where there was a booming growth of industry and rich farmland. His Scots-Irish American wife was the source of my naturally wavy hair, as my sister and our father also had. My grandfather passed when I was still young and didn't know to ask questions about my ancestry. Unaware and separated from knowledge of my heritage until just a few years ago, I didn't know I was a Finn or life in Finland. But, the 'culture' and 'heritage' is also stamped into my life. I turned off the hot water at the end of a warm shower to feel the chill. I didn't know about a Sauna. I felt "at peace" in the woods and nature more than in a bustling city or apartment building. I am un-comfortable if I am not in a wooded area for a visit at least every 3-4 days. I sought out dark Rye bread to enjoy eating - long before learning that Rye bread like this IS the bread of Finland! I love the water, boating and sailing. I am 'at home' on the water. What else in 'me' that was not told to me, not passed down verbally that unites me with Finland, as a Finn?
Unfortunately more and more Zionists are coming to Finland. If Zionists infiltrate the government of Finland it will be the end of a happy life for the people of Finland.
Same type of reality for me and my Irish/Scotch heritage. Things that I have loved my whole life but didn’t know why or that I had such heritage until my grandfathers cousin did a family heritage research paper and I found out. I am an AMERICAN first and foremost but I am proud of my Irish / Scotch heritage as well.
@@PapilioArgiolus very much so, if you look at where I’m from (northern Ontario) , it’s almost exactly the same land. Lots of lakes and coniferous forests. Thunder Bay has the biggest population of Finnish people outside of Finland. The Ojibwa used sweat lodges for religious purposes not unlike Finnish saunas. Both are cultures of the forest.
My friend traveled to Finland in June this year. Despite a hectic schedule and only a bit of time to explore Helsinki, she loved every moment of her stay. She was left speechless by the beauty of the country and the warmth of the locals.
I'm Finnish and Swedish. I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where many Finns, Swede's and Italian immigrants settled in the late 1800's and early 1900's. I grew up taking a Sauna. It was and still is my family's only way of bathing. I always cringe listening to people who don't know the correct pronunciation of the "Sow-na", not "Saw-na" Our area is also very beautiful with wild life, forests, lakes, streams, waterfalls and Lake Superior. I'm sure it's the reason why my Great Grandparents gravitated to what we call "God's Country".
Our grandmother was a Sami Finn beauty who thought Minnesota was a fine place to start a family and "suggested" this to our Norwegian grandfather. I think you know how this works. And 11,000 lakes to jump into after a sauna are very convenient! 😎
Your comments remind me of a beautiful Finnish girlfriend I fell in love with at 17 from Lahti especially the 'sow-na' bit! I still say it like that now 47 years later! She was a beautiful white-haired blonde with blue eyes and unlike any girl I had met before or since. Ah, the joys of life!
Finland is such a beautiful country that preserves such greenery, ice & natural things like lakes. And the most important thing is it's safe for any person , provides opportunities to their people and people are also open-minded. I also wanted to travel to this country
Interesting. I guess things have improved since 1995. I dated a girl from Finland & she always talked about the hi rate of alcohol abuse & hi suicidal rates. She says that depression is very high. I’ve never visited Finland. She left cause she wasn’t happy there. So she decided to move to NYC. We broke up cause she drank vodka w/ sprite everyday. One thing for sure she was beautiful when she wasn’t drunk.
Darkness is the reason for a high suicidal rate! Same in Norway. Depression is a usual thing! But Summer with white nights is really great 😊! So pluses and minuses like everywhere! Main thing is to find the place which minuses you manage to tolerate!
On a holiday around Europe when I was between college and Uni, we camped at a site next to a Finish truck driver on some 'downtime'. That guy was paralytic drunk 24 hrs a day. He was drinking vodka out of the bottle for breakfast. After a week he was a total mess, and his tent was a mess too because he'd fell over on top of it and ripped it open so it was covered in bin bags and tape. We left before he did and I always wonder if he made it home alive. According to him that was a dream holiday for a Fin. Weird.
An amazing country with great people and stunning natural areas to enjoy. I've been in Europe but never made it to Finland, I hope to see it before I die.
This was my dream country to pursue my education years ago while back in Nigeria. Living in France now, it might still be a dream come through. Nothing like peaceful and beautiful people ❤
I'm forever linked to the Finns and would gladly offer helps if needed whenever they are in my country because they once helped me n my family when I needed place to survive 8 years ago. Very kind hearted and honest people. Please come if you guys need more sunshine, come to Indonesia. ❤🎉
Interesting! Finland will be one of the places I must visit in future. It's so beautiful in winter and the husky sleigh ride looks fun. I love how everyone is so blond😄
Why the ladies are so blond in Finland is because of the Winter coldness. Colours do not take well in the coldness, so, only the blond colour is Queen here in Finland.
One of the best places, people i have met. Sauna at night jumping into cold lake was exhilirating. Will go back. Landscape was like minnesota. Lots of lakes. Lingenberries, reindeer, seafood!
I was struck by the fact that the people there, both male and female, were not displaying numerous tattoos and excessive piercings…. What a great refreshing change vs what would be displayed in a similar video made in the US…. 😃😃😃
You might need to come over to Finland, there are a few shops around Finland that do some very good art tats. Many people do not show the tats that is why the people are nicely covered up with descent clothes and not rags, well sometimes depending on the weather of course.
@@Sunshine-uz4cx Your Grandma is entitled to her opinion. But I find it extremely ignorant to associate tattoos with a lack of education or intelligence. Your grandma must’ve not been too well traveled, or open minded. Tattooed or not, it has nothing to do with someone’s level of education or intelligence. No more so than their skin color, gender, religion, or nationality.
As a traveler Finland is my next destination. Northern lights rein deer, snow , good people and no politics wow. I hope there are home stays and friendly guides . Nandu Kavalam
Yes. There's even a Finnish saying for that "Kell' onni on, se onnen kätkeköön", something like "One who has found happiness shall hide one's happiness". And some of us are doing excellent work on that 😅
I'm from India 🇮🇳 and I noticed some positive things about Finland through this video. 1. They care about the environment. They got lots of forest and lakes. 2. Most of the people prefer walking, or using public transport of e-bikes, that also links to a good environment and good physical health of finnish people. 3. They provide free education which is beyond my imagination. Also, they take care of unemployed people this sounds insane in my country. 4. Overall finnish people look very fit as compared to Americans. This could be due to the fact of a good environment, good quality of food and most importantly the habit of walking. I hope the people of my country occupying important positions will take note of this and make better living conditions for our fellow Indians.
I pray my country 🇹🇿 can just copy a quarter of best offered by Finland. I just hope one day finnish people from their gvt will be welcomed here in Tanzania to share their experience on best way to run a country as we are indeed in total chaos right now. Stay blessed Finland
Finland’s landscapes are nothing short of breathtaking, from its serene lakes and lush forests to the magical northern lights that dance across the night sky. The people of Finland are incredibly warm and welcoming, with a deep respect for nature and a unique approach to life that emphasizes both peace and adventure
Finns are happy with who they are and Finland is happy being what it is. While most people from other places are welcome to visit, don’t plan on overstaying your welcome. Immigration is virtually non-existent. And illegally overstaying your visa for any reason quickly gets you a one way ticket out of the country. No exceptions.
@@Adomir Agree. There’s a lot to be said for leaving well enough alone. If you’re fortunate enough to have a country with what’s effectively a monoculture and a strong sense of national identity it’s something worth preserving. In all fairness, I think it’s pretty amazing that the USA manages as well as it does considering the perpetually clashing poly cultural, polytheistic, and poly lingual population it has to deal with combined with the recent trend of deconstructing its national heritage and identity in the name of “inclusion.”

It is not a matter of preference. Finland is not belonging to Scandinavia!

This odd word "Scandinavian" is not created by north western Europeans . It's created by people from the US . I don't know how on earth they ever made up such a word .

Sad
On a holiday around Europe when I was between college and Uni, we camped at a site next to a Finish truck driver on some 'downtime'. That guy was paralytic drunk 24 hrs a day. He was drinking vodka out of the bottle for breakfast. After a week he was a total mess, and his tent was a mess too because he'd fell over on top of it and ripped it open so it was covered in bin bags and tape. We left before he did and I always wonder if he made it home alive. According to him that was a dream holiday for a Fin. Weird.
