- So, I was perplexed when I heard this. React with me as I react to Get Away Jordan by the legendary Take 6. I also meant to post this some time last month, but, I decided to get it done now. I was perplexed when I heard this because it meant I had to choose between Accent's cover and the original. If you want me to react to more Take 6, more acapella, or anything else at all, please like, comment, and subscribe! If you are subscribed, please don't forget to hit the notification bell so you'll know the next time I upload another video! Thanks so much for watching!!

Quincy Jones calls Take 6 "The baddest vocal cats on the planet". This was their debut album released in 1988 with the original line-up of
Claude V. McKnight III, 1st tenor (also the eldest brother of Brian McKnight)
Mark Kibble, 1st tenor (2nd part)
Mervyn Warren, 2nd tenor (3rd part)
David Thomas, 2nd tenor (4th part)
Cedric Dent, baritone
Alvin Chea, bass.
There has only been 2 member changes with the exit of Mervyn Warren in 1991 being replaced by Joey Kibble, Mark Kibble's younger brother and Cedric Dent's exit in 2011 (I think) being replaced by Khristian Dentley. They are the real deal!
Bass singing is Alvin Vinnie Chea. Claude McKnight sings the top note for 90% of the song in THIS version. Mark Kibble sing underneath him. Mervyn Warren sings third from the top ( except the high Whistle in the few sections he switches with Claude and hits the whistle. When he left the group Claude did the whistle note, and now today David Thomas sings the whistle), David Thomas sings fourth in THIS version. Cedric Dent is the baritone second from the bottom
True
That smile in your eyes when they started singing was so awesome! In this crazy world of folks mad an uptight its cool to see true happiness from our youth enjoying great music! Jus like Take 6 said keep spreading love kid and i salute you on your journey! Take care.
Their original lineup from highest to bass…
Claude McKnight - top
Mark Kibble - 2nd
Mervyn Warren - 3rd
David Thomas - 4th
Cedric Dent - 5th (Baritone)
Alvin Chea - Bass
Now, Joey Kibble is 3rd and Khristian Dentley is Baritone.
Dave and Joey do switch , when doing their old song Joey sings the 3 part , however anything after the second Album Dave sings the 3rd part
Yes! This is my favorite group!
Yo Tori. It’s Dad. Thanks for reacting to Take 6. No need to be perplexed though. Accent’s version clearly pays tribute to Take 6. But Accent’s version also has nuances and variations that can be just as appreciated as the original.
I loved your analysis of this track. Indeed Take 6’s musical acumen and process is unique and holds up even now. But feel free to enjoy both versions of the song. They are both most impressive.
Thanks for reacting to a song from the best era in gospel (imho). I would love for you to cover other songs from the gospel genre of that era! 😉
I love you. Keep up the good work. Have fun. ❤❤❤❤
Yeah. Accent is something RIDICULOUS!!! I love those guys!!!
You’re right. NO ONE comes close to Take 6!
Take 6 is awesome 👍🏿👌🏿
"the original version" by Take 6 - LOL!
The first recording of this song was released in 1923 under the title "Give 'way Jordan" by the Fisk University Jubilee Singers.
The first recording under the title "Get Away, Jordan" was by Four Novelty Aces, released in 1934.
There were many, many recordings of this Gospel song before Take 6's recording - most notably by Mahalia Jackson in 1951, The Original Gospel Harmonettes in 1951, The Caravans in 1952, and Marie Knight in 1953.
