On the Mnet K-POP channel, there is a 2016 MAMA BTS performance of Boy Meets Evil Pt 1 + Boy Meets Evil Pt 2 + Blood Sweat and Tears, which I would just about die to see your analysis of. We probably will never get to see it because it would probably be hard to do without getting copyright strikes or blocks. When I contrast j-hope's dance with Jimin's, to me it feels as if j-hope is little unsure of himself when he is physically disconnected from the ground, whereas Jimin seems to seek out physical disconnection from the ground. In my imagination, this difference is due to Jimin's having done martial arts work. In the performance mentioned above, during Blood Sweat and Tears, Jimin slips. I noticed he adapts by stabilizing in a non-standard position for a few seconds. His dance afterwards seems even more powerful, to me, because he has lived through a public moment of his own vulnerability. When I read the precepts of Taekwondo, they seem to support this type of honest encounter with the ego as a built-in for the whole movement system.
This song has a really deep meaning and while J-Hope did not choreograph it himself, he took part in writing the lyrics and you can see his passion for it in his dance. Also, the seasoning analogy had me dying lool. And you were right about the feeling of losing control. This song (the whole album really) is heavily influenced by Biblical and Faustian motifs, as well as references to Herman Hesse's Demian. RM's monologue at the beginning was a reference to the German legend of Faust. Faust was a great scholar and not a bad person at all, but he always yearned for more knowledge. To satisfy his thirst for knowing more, he made deal with the devil. But as always, love your reactions😋Jimin's solo in the album is Lie. He and Hobi actually did a performance together with the two songs. The lyrics complete the performance, so you should watch those, too. BTS choreography always is a visualization of the carefully written and performed lyrics, so it's more like watching a poem being fully expressed in word, music, and movement than watching a dance. I realize you are analyzing dance, not lyrics, but it's not possible to completely understand their choreo without the informant of the lyrics. I really enjoy your videos! Please consider taking a deeper dive by checking lyrics, too. I would love to hear you get into it. Thanks! 💜
I always forget to check out the lyrics because I get too caught up in the dance, but yeah I'm for sure missing a key factor. I'm going to try and remember to do that in the future :)
Loved hearing your thoughts on this as always! Boy meets evil (and the whole Wings album) was inspired by the 1919 German novel Demian, dealing with themes of temptation, good and evil and growing up/losing your innocence. It’s really impressive how you got so much of the storyline/meaning of the song just from the choreo, it really shows how nothing is without intent. Like you said, choreo, lyrics, beat and instrumentation, clothes, lighting are all interconnected to relay the message to the viewer. J-Hope worked unbelievably hard for this - I believe it was his first solo song and solo dance in BTS and he absolutely killed it. I’m never getting over how impressive this video is. (He would have been 22 years old here if my maths works correctly?) I don’t know if you’ve heard, but J-Hope is releasing a solo album mid-July, so I’m really excited and crossing my fingers for maybe another dance performance? He’s also headlining Lollapalooza next month and has an hour long time slot. I’m really happy and excited for him
i looooved this reaction! and you keep saying you're rambling or what but. no! it's so nice hearing you talk freely about something you're passionate about, don't apologize about being excited or anything, really! 💜 Boy Meets Evil is one of the first choreography-heavy MVs by BTS i ever watched and I'm happy you reacted to it, especially since it's one of the main reasons I'm a fan now :) ANYWAY! idk if you know but soon J-hope will probably drop a new album... which means we'll likely get to see some more of him dancing in his music videos! i personally can't wait :)
When I first saw this video I noticed that he seemed to be fighting his hands from the beginning of the video. He grabs his hands a lot, but then they take over him by flipping out his knees, grabbing his throat, etc. Maybe I’m seeing things because I’ve never heard any dance reactor comment on that. I’ve seen this video many, many times over the years and I still see the same thing. When he flips over to the underworld, things change a little and it seems his hands are now in check because he has become “evil”, but when he comes back up to the top he is at their mercy again. His hands grab his neck again. I’m not a dancer and I’m not artistic, I might just seeing things?
12:00 okay, I personally think that armys replayed that part the most just to see his abs, but anyways, yeah, the climax of the song, the intensity, yeah, let's leave it at that. My English is not that good so ignore any grammar mistakes 🙂
If you check out the youtube channel "BTS LIVE" you can find Jhope dancing freestyle during a livestream with ARMY. Please react to that. The title of the video is [ENG SUB] BTS J-HOPE LIVE VLIVE (2021.07.26) BTS VLIVE 2021. It's over an hour but he's not dancing more than 20 minutes. So just fast forward until he starts dancing. He doesn't start dancing until about 20 minutes into the video (he does some stretching before). And after that he just talks with ARMY so you can skip that. It's him freestyling. He talks a little bit during dancing so turn on the subtitles to understand him, just as when you watch these music videoes.
I love your reactions to different dancers in kpop! You should totally react to momo from twice. Like mina, she's also a main dancer in twice and arguably one of the best in the industry it'd be great to see your reaction to her dancing!
What you attempted to describe at the 4 minute mark as 'zombie-ish' I read as emotionally exhausted, like he's been fighting his demons all night and still has to get up and go to work lol.
i love your perspective! it made me see a lot i haven't before in this video! please check the live performance of jimin and jhope doing lie + boys meets evil. it's amazing how they contrast and complement each other. also, jimin does a few turns while blindfolded, so yeah.
hosoek controls his whole body perefectly so those movements you say that are simple actually aren't if you see all of this movements and know hiphop .
Please don't spam in the comments asking her to react to "jimin and jhope performing boy meets evil together" and let jhope get the spotlight for himself for once
Hi! I just discovered your channel, and I have to tell you that I'm really enjoying hearing your thoughts on these videos. And I've just watched your reaction to the 3J butter remix dance. It's so nice to see how you are just so passionated about dance that you have to watch it over and over to make sure you see every little detail. It's very interesting to hear your thoughts! J-Hope, Jimin and Jungkook are such good dancers. In that 3J video you singled Jhope out a couple of times. And I wonder if you would maybe do a reaction video to a dance compilation of just J-Hope? If so I have a suggestion for a video that I would LOVE to hear your thoughts on. It's a dance compilation that shows some different sides of him dancing. and it has a little clip of the dance choreographer from the 3J butter dance in it where he shows him dancing together with J-Hope. I think you would find that interesting because you've watched the dance before. I would also really love it if you one day would react to some of his "Hope on the street" freestyle dances on livestreaming. My favorite is from a year ago when in the middle of the night he got up to dance (and talk) with ARMY. His dancing in that was incredible! There is a little clip of that in this compilation as well. The title of the compilation is: He's your hope and you're his hope: J-Hope Dance Compilation. Golden Hyung of BTS The channel is: Golden Hyung I'll leave the link below this comment:
I stumbled over the channel because I follow a reaction channel here on youtube that did a reaction to a singing compilation of Jhope from this channel, so I checked it out. It's a new channel it looks like, but I hope he/she will make some more videos, because there is much more to show than these first couple of compilations. but I do think this compilation is really good. The title of the compilation is: He's your hope and you're his hope: J-Hope Dance Compilation. Golden Hyung of BTS The channel is: Golden Hyung
