I sent a link to last weeks vid to a friend, he said 'that is the most calming man in carpentry'.
That’s very kind- they should see me when I’m working! 😱😂
Measure once cuss twice?
Thanks for the Tour.
I often watch older videos and sometimes i wonder how your shop looks like now 😂
A testament to your organisation that you produce what you do, cabinetry and content, from such a compact workshop.
@@10MinuteWorkshop Keep Calm and Crosscut On
You make me feel like even my humble space is usable. To utilize spaces like this effectively forces one to become quite resourceful. Necessity is th mother of all inventions right lol!
Peter is so calming and approachable that he could sell in-person tours complete with a pint at a nearby pub. 😂
I did exactly that earlier in the year with a few of my 10MW Plus members; great fun!
it is the person, not the place that makes you such a wonderful youtuber/cabinet make/teacher-------keep it going thanx rick
Thanks Rick! 🙌
Nice Tour, it broke my brain when you went outside!
I know right! There’s a whole world out there… who knew? 🤷♂️
Peter, thank you for your contributions to "the community" over the years. It has been great so far! I'm sure you have inspired many many people. Even my friends talk about you!
Wow, thanks Nico! Honestly, sounds like you need some new friends though… 😂
I found your channel, after I bought a TS55 in about 2018. Peter, I have never looked back! You have changed my life woodworkwise. I have so much to thank you for that video and beyond. I owe you a huge debt. I live in Wetherby. If you are in this region, there is a steak frite lunch and a huge pat on the back waiting for you. Top top man 👍
Thanks Philip! For a steak frite lunch I’ll travel! 😂👍👍
Ahh, the mini bench of shame.. puts my whole Garage to shame!
Thanks for the tour 👍😊
I love that you have corners of shame. It makes me feel better about mine.
It is nice to see people making spaces work as you and other people do rather than massive spaces
Thanks! The set dresser took ages to get that corner *just* right... 👌 😂
@@10MinuteWorkshop 😁
I have always liked your shop. I always thought it was interesting that your small shop produced real furniture for decades while most “content creators” have shops three times the size and never actually produce anything for real customers but yet feel the need to upgrade because of space limitations 🤨. My favourite part is by far the router table, so very simple and efficient. I also appreciate the skill you have with the MFt and track saw.
Thank you! It was always a squeeze when I was doing fitted furniture work, but you manage with what you have - and I had low overheads!😆 👍
Very pleased that you did not move to a brand new shop like so many other youtubers. You just made more of what was there.
Thanks! Keeping it real here! 😂👍👍
Hello Peter, always a pleasure to see you 😎🙋♂️👍, take care
Thanks, you too! 👍
Hey Peter, big fan of the channel. Like you say, your space is very relatable to what we've got in the U.K. I've got a garage that's full of everything. I often remind myself that it has similar dimensions to your workshop..Those big garages in the U.S are ridiculous and bigger than my home. Keep your workshop exactly where it is!
Thank you! As much as I'd love some more space, I'd never get aything comparable in terms of price and location. 👍
Big garages? Some of those workshops are about the size of an aircraft hangar!
Such a great video!
Thanks so much.
Thank you! 👍
Awesome! Thanks for the tour. Really helps put things in perspective as I ponder building a larger workshop.
Another great insight Peter. I do think you are one of the best ‘ideas’ makers out there and of course, the length, breadth and scope of your ideas is not limited by your physical workspace! Actually, I also like to think I make the most of my one car garage workshop in south east London. Keep up the good work Peter. Thank you and more power to you… 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks Allan! 👍
Wonderful, that's exactly how it looks for me too. And the eternal attempt to master the chaos and not lose the overview. And there is always too little space to be able to work in a really relaxed way.
Well said! 🙌
Great walk through your workshop. It's impressive how much you get out of your space.
Thanks! Yeah, a bit if a squeeze sometimes! 👍
Great tour Peter, nice setup for sure. Hard to beat having a space seperate from your house and yet within a good shout's distance lol
Thanks, sure is! 👍
I have just got a workshop and have been thinking about how to equip and arrange things. It is good to see what can be achieved in an “English “ space. I see some of the “shops” UA-camrs have in the US and they are huge but this side of the pond most contributors seem to be producing great work from smaller foot prints. Where space is at a premium , it has been useful to see how it might be utitlised. Thanks.
Thank you! 👍
Your shop has really come along since 2017! Looks great and seems like you can get things built far more comfortably & reliably now. It’s a great example of how a small space can be setup well as a workshop.
Thanks Paul! Yes, getting there - one half of the shop at a time! 😂 👍
Enjoyed the video and thanks for the update.
Thanks for sharing your amazing space, I definitely think you need a little clear out and decide on what is needed and what might be considered to be cluttering your valuable working space
Thanks! Yeah, II totally agree! Soon! It’ll happen soon! 😬
@@10MinuteWorkshop just do it, don’t give it too much thought
Great use of the space Peter. You're right about a workshop never being complete, I'm always changing and tweaking my super small space to improve the layout and usability. Next thing for me is finishing my dust extraction project I started!!!
Good to finally meet you at Maker Central a few months ago too.
Thanks! Yeah, dust extraction is a project all right! And great to meet you too! 👍
So you keep boxes too!! My wife has a go at me saying "that's a nice box - I'll keep it in the garage". Yes, I'm a hoarder but I know where everything is and mostly stored in "nice boxes".
Exactly! 👍
Fantastic tour😊 It is not the street Damon Albarn studio is
Thank you for the 'AAA' Tour 😊
Having just recently started my garage to workshop conversion at 3m x 6m, you are right, the size is very relatable. I seem to be missing some Festool gear looking at yours though 👍😂
😂😂 👍
Thanks Peter, it's good to have a tour as an overview, despite having watched all of your workshop videos, glad to see it's not all neat and super organised !
Never neat and only halfway organised! 😂
Hi Peter, my workshop (LOL) is about the same size as yours and mine is a tip. Started this week devoting 30 minutes a day to dumping the junk heaven knows how long it will take but hey ho got to start somewhere!
Steve
Cheers Steve! Yeah, a little at a time, that’s the way forwards… Or so I’m told! 😂👍
Peter, thanks for the shop tour. Interesting to see your set-up. I have seen one of your videos (don't recall which one right now) where you make rebate cuts on the front of your DIY MFT. In fact you make some pretty interesting cuts on it. Can you go into some more detail on how you measure and set-up for that. You seem to achieve more versatility with your set-ups than I'm able to figure out. Thanks for your help.
I’ve always thought your workshop size was totally relatable, your tool advice has been great my favourite is the Mirock ruler (hope he’s OK).
If you are doing anything with guide rails any change of including the Kreg Acu cut
Thanks! Valdimir (Mirock) is well, but seems to be concentrating more on his higher-end (and more profitable) brass and hardwood squares and rulers these days. Unfortunately Kreg have decided not to bring their saw and guiderail system to the UK - at least not yet - which is a great shame as I'd be very interested in trying it out. 👍
Good to know that he’s still going.
Oh! I’ve got the Acu Cut a few years back think it might have been from Machinery4wood in the west country ??
Hi Peter. Love your work 👍
Thank you! 👍
Thanks for this
Peter Your a Legend , love the Review and its awesome to see what your able to achieve in a limited space , the most favourite Part is when you turned your Workshop into a Spray Booth that was just so ingenious again with your limited space , Best wishes From Perth Australia
Thank you! 🙌👍
Thanks for another interesting updated tour.
It gives me a warm feeling to know that I am not the only one that has an area full of stuff that doesn't have a designated home and it happens on the other side of the pond also. Mine is a little more wide spread, in that it covers all available horizontal surfaces.😊
Keep 'um coming. JimE
Thanks! 🙌👍
Hi Peter, a great workshop tour and as you mention in the Video, very relatable to many DIY workshops in the UK.
My single garage workshop is 5 Metres X 2.5 Meters so on a par with the "working area" of your workshop but ample enough if I keep it tidy whenever possible.
As for being close to your house, I did chuckle to myself that it's close enough for a Colin Furze style tunnel 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ooo! If only I knew a retired engineer, Colin, who could help me out...! 😂
Peter. Looks like you planning some serious loose tenons, judging by the massive loose tenon jig on the wall (14:46). Or was it a Spinal Tap-esque unit mix up. We remember “Stonehenge”
Great channel. Love the workshop.
Cheers Colin! Yeah, those tricky mm to inch conversions, always wreak havoc! 😂👍
It's a very nice workshop!☆☆☆♪😊♪🌈🌈💖💖💖🌈🌈✨✨👏👏👏💖💖💖
Peter , I’ve learned, if you have a bigger shop , it will eventually fill up !
Your shop is looking fantastic, Peter! 😃
I hope I get there some day!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thanks, you too! 🙌👍
Great shop and thanks for the tour!
Thank you! 👍
I always look forward to your videos. It is nice to see so much can be accomplished in a smaller space. I have always liked your shop. thought it was interesting that your small shop produced real furniture. So what are you going to do ? going forward... Thank you for the tips and ideas. (re-Bob-uk )
Thanks Bob! I’ll have quite a lot to do when the building work is done on the house - walk-in wardrobes, alcoves, my office to finish off, kitchen table, maybe some stools, sideboard/ credenza thing, shelves, utility room etc.. etc.. so the schedule is pretty full! 👍
Hi Peter. Amazing what you can do with such little space. I'm happy to see it's not all just perfect storage and neatly organized stuff. I very much enjoy your basic joinery videos, how about doing a second view using an out of the box cheap-ass saw?
If you ever want to get rid of the transportable MFT table, I'll happily pay for freight :D
Thanks! And it’s coming! 👍
Thanks for sharing.
I always look forward to your videos. It is nice to see so much can be accomplished in a smaller space. You started a series on the house renovation but I have not seen any further videos. Are you still going to move forward with it? Thank you for the tips and ideas. Cheers!
Thanks. The house reno is well on the way, but because I'm not hands-on with it I wanted to take a bit of a step back from it to get a clearer picture of what I want the series to show. It's coming... 👍
The workshop is looking great Peter! I'm really liking the MFT table but I'm so far from anything close to that, some day I may get there.
Thanks 👍
Great stuff!
Cheers Dean!
Looking at you router collection, just checking you know you can change the bits ?😂
Nonsense! You buy a 1/4” router and that’s the bit that comes with it… 😂😂
Hey, that's the kind of invalidating talk we have to put up with from our other halves! "How many drills / cameras / multimeters do you actually need?" All of them, obviously. 😭
Only own 13 router bits 😂👍📐🇨🇦
This is indeed a very relatable shop. From the available space to the clutter and mess. Very realistic. I have one comment though; Why the heck do you need multiple track saws and routers? With limited space, I could imagine to dump a lot of those tools (keep one for spare). Nevertheless, a very impressive collection! Great vid as always.
Thanks. I covered the routers in video 436 - long story short they all do different jobs and I’ve added a couple since then. As for the tracksaws, a couple were given to me for review, most I bought, some for comparison videos and some from when I had my fitted furniture business. I keep them for reference so that I can say for certain that eg my loose tenon jig works fine with the Trend T10 / Festool OF2000 / Lidl Parkside, because I have one and I’ve tried it. 👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop Thank you for your reply! Makes sense to me now.
I miss your old videos when you use to make cabinets and fit them.
I retired from that business, but there’s a few thing coming along in the house Reno. 👍
Wonderful tour. Love the comment "Shop improvements are never done". Looks like the new Domino/Shelf pin jig may be going SUPER Size soon???
Thanks! Yep, loose tenon jig XL on the drawing board. 👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop Looking forward to it's announcement.
Interesting to see you have stuck with your diy MFT hinge over the commercial units.
It's a good product, and I have total faith in it. 👍
Towards the end I was thinking that the needs of a worker that deals mostly with sheet goods (especially MDF/HDF) and solid wood (me) - we have a bit of over lap - but I could have saved a lot more space and money going the sheet goods route. Except over in the States my access to MDF/HDF is very limited where as my choices for hardwoods is down right obscene. :^D I've added a thickness sander, planer, cabinet saw (now very close to being declared surplus - we'll see how that goes); all very useful, but oh man they take up room! sigh.....
Thanks! Yes, I have a planer/thicknesser stored under the bench - kinda forgot about it in the grout tbh, it gets used that infrequently! Natural timbers are very expensive here - it doesn’t grow on trees apparently. 🤷♂️😂👍
Fair play to you Peter working out of a shop that size. I wouldn’t be able to operate in there, far too big and clumsy
I’ve only been a viewer for about a year now, but that was a nice trip down memory lane. I think may be the sharp angles that would be required. Would make it in efficient or dampen the airflow too much, but considering how many festool dust extractors you have, would putting in a single three motor record power cam vac be a good way to save space which seems to be at a premium in your shop? Thanks for the tour, Peter!
Thanks Frederick. I thing a 3-motor can vac would take up more space then the three discrete vacs I already have! Also I think they’re more geared to large-bore hoses like you see on thicknessers and ‘big iron’ machinery - the kind I don’t really use! 😂👍👍
Great catch up Peter been a while eh mate. Workshop looks great by the way.
Thanks David! Yes, been a while! 😂 👍
I think you could start a new chapter in the channel and the workshop by getting a laser engraver/cutter and/or a small CNC. Cheers!
😂 I gave mine away this year.
One of the few existing routers was mentioned; a comparison of the OF 1400 with the mafell LO 55 (with the quick clamp) would be interesting.
Thanks. I’ve discussed the routers before - ua-cam.com/video/Y_gLxlCcY5Y/v-deo.html - but the OF1400 is a 1/2” router, and the Mafell is 1/4” so not an entirely fair comparison. It is on my radar though. 👍
That's right, the of1010 would be fair. the mafell is great.
The only "mid range" plunge saw that I can think of is the Kreg, which is a 110v 60Hz saw. I don't think you could run it if you could even get one. I have one and am really pleased with it. I did manage to cut all the way through my KregACS MFT-style table though when I forgot to change the depth setting, oops.
Yep, but for whatever reason they’ve decided not to sell them here; most other plunge saws sold here with ideas of being better that entry level are basically entry level saws, rebadged. The Kreg does seem genuinely different - the blade’s to the left of the motor, which is unusual for a corded tracksaw. 👍
Thanks
Thank you! 🙌👍
Peter has transitioned...Well done.
It's true... 😆 And thank you!
No chair? I escape to my chair with a cup of tea twice a week at least.
I have a stool. Chair’s a great idea though - but where would I put it? 🙌
@@10MinuteWorkshop mine folds.
Our workshops are exactly the same size. Except I don't have a gigantic wall in the middle
Wanna swap? 😂
Hi just wanted to say thank you for your tour and wanted to ask a question ❓ I purchased a track/plunge saw from Rutland's is there any other long track I can buy as Rutland's only do short tracks and have to have 4 joined together for a long track
Many thanks in advance
Hi and thanks! I’ve no direct experience of the Rutlands saw I’m sorry, but it seems to be a dead ringer for the Einhell / Parkside type of saw. Which unfortunately means that your choices are probably limited to the OEM rails or the Festool rails. If you don’t mind getting hands-on then you can strip the lip off the Makita-pattern tracks then you should be all good. I did a video about the process here - ua-cam.com/video/QqTJ4SrRD1M/v-deo.html 👍
How do you handle trash? I didn't see a trash bin anywhere. Also, do you have a dedicated metal bin for oil finish soaked rags?
Trash can is under the MFT. Oily or finish-rags are opened out then dried over the corner of the commercial bins outside. Then disposed of. 👍
I think that it is fair to say Peter, that one side has much improved since 2017. The other... not so much. I share your suffering. I need to use a single car garage as a combined workshop and storeroom (and home for the washing machine, too)
One side at a time, Cliff! 😂😂
I’m wondering if you had to add more power ? Garages typically don’t have a good amount of amps or circuits
Cheers
Thanks. It’s garage-sized, but not an actual garage, so the power was already here. For historical reasons it’s pretty much impossible to make any further changes or additions though, so it is what it is. 🤷♂️👍
Every time I think about your workshop and what you accomplished in there I also think about US youtubers, especially situations like when @Bourbonmothdecor came here to build a bed in a viewer's workshop and spent the whole video rudely ridiculing his shed, which was very well organised, just tiny and obviously owned by a beginner with limited both space and money.
You have so many track saws. What is your recommendation for an entry level saw?
“Entry level” is getting harder to find these days, but honestly they all do pretty much the same job at the entry level. Parkside and MacAllister are both good entry-level saws if you can get your hands on them. 👍
“Entry level” is getting harder to find these days, but honestly they all do pretty much the same job at the entry level. Parkside and MacAllister are both good entry-level saws if you can get your hands on them. 👍
It's the "stuff" that makes things difficult.
Always! 👍
Who are the big six? Festool, Mafell, Makita, Dewalt, Milwaukee......evolution?
Makita & DeWalt, Bosch & Metabo, Festool & Mafell. I’ve never used Milwaukee and the saw hasn’t been available for that long here, but it may deserve a spot in there. Evolution is nowhere near these, unfortunately, unless you want the multi material blade. 👍
ah Bosch and Metabo
Interesting to see how the workshop has changed over the years from being a full time cabinet maker into a content creator. Nice to see you’ve not thrown yourself into a massive warehouse workshop that’s not relatable for the everyday woodworker and hobbyist.
Cheers Ben! Honestly, I’d love an aircraft-hangar sized workshop, but you mostly have to make do with whatever you have! 👍👍
Wouldn’t we all 😂. I think you learn a lot more when having to work within limitations though so there’s definitely strengths to having limited space.
Although you might need a new workshop just to store routers and track saws in soon! 😂
scary to think the last shop tour was 6 years ago
I know, right? 🤷♂️👍
On occasion the "you need a bigger boat" just does not work. First you need a bigger lake, then you need a bigger boat.
😂
Sir....I have skill for wood working, wood carving and specially metal welding.... Are you hiring helper?
Thank you, but no, I’m afraid not. 👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop thanks for reply sir
No bikes? 😅
Not any more! 😂
Too bad that you ignored your hand planes.
They haven’t been touched since the last tour, so, you know… 🤷♂️👍
