Hearing the bullet cracks and other chaos simultaneously had me literally twitch just a hair with the first burst of fire cracking off, nearly missing the player as the bullets screamed by at supersonic speeds.

Brother it took me a while to get back into these kinds of games cause of the deep immersion of them, COD these kinds of games are not and thank god for that. I spent hours upon hours watching my sons play using it as a way to suppress some stuff I was still dealing with after mustering out. It's not much of an issue now but every once in awhile while playing they'll be that moment of "Holy shit that was close" and my reaction will kick in.

thank you SO SO SO MUCH for bringing back standardized roles!
It might seem like reversing tech for some of you, but with a system like that everybody gets a chance to try out roles and arent gatekept by loading before anyone gets a chance to pick it.
People can try the role, get their fill, and leave to a different role or quit if they are done playing while leaving the slot to be filled by someone who specifically wishes to fill that role.
Which will both bring a lot more people who main important roles but also more availability for new players to try out different roles with ease.

I would advise them though that they need to have casual and not so skilled players people as part of the play test, as in...people who don't have much experience with tactical shooters, and/or aren't that good at playing with groups.
Why? Because this will simulate what the actual experience will be, because let's face it...a lot of potential squad leaders aren't really leadership material, and a lot of the rank and file squaddies won't always listen to orders too. So, if the game can hold up well even for THOSE kind of players, then I think the game has a good chance at working out. If the game requires everyone to be hardcore for it to be playable as opposed to the mechanics enforcing proper behavior, then the game will fall apart.

@@ChristoffRevan I wouldn't take it so far - I'd only take it as far as "test it with people that play Squad". Anything more broad than that and you're potentially barking at the wrong tree as the vast majority of players aren't looking for what is essentially a sim. Battlebit fell into a similar trap/limbo. Also, note this is an off-the-cuff comment - the point is simply restraint in widening the target demo and using Squad's player base is probably too or too little restrictive.

    • @ChristoffRevan
      @ChristoffRevan 9 днів тому +2

@@toastbud6870 I'm more so saying that the game itself needs to have mechanics that enforce playing tactically, as opposed to relying on players themselves to somehow know what they're doing. For myself, I'm just a bit tired of games where they rely all on the player to create the experience...that's why Squad games can end up being half and half...half of the games are good due to decent squad leaders and people communicating, and the other half are bad because of either bad squad leaders, and/or lack of communication and people just running off as a lone wolf.

Yeah that’s why this game will be kaput - he already said at 2:31 “unlike other games, squad roles are rigid and defined”
Oh you mean like….Squad? Yknow that game that’s been dying? Battlefield? Having rigid and defined specialists that are in every single match?
Nobody wants to play the same match over and over and over again with the same roles, the same guns, the same meat grinder. Nobody wants where if you don’t get the sniper first you can’t be one.
They want Arma and Tarkov levels of customization. They wanna play tactical Barbie. They want real gear, real world products, and they wanna put together their own identity.
I thought he might’ve been on to something with the neat little prone mechanic. But then I saw that and said this game has absolutely nothing on Arma Reforger.

Loving the honest, no frills, no modern AAA slop, preview. Also the clean UI. Some feedback:
    - Turn the head without turning the torso and gun (alt+mouse movement, like in Rust) - provides better awareness of surrounding (especially if guns can't clip through objects/other players),
    - Inventory management (not having unlimited bullets or health kits, having to worry what to pick up from the ground, etc),
    - Weight of inventory (the more ammo the slower you go, or the bigger the guy carrying it),
    - Bullet pen through players/objects,
    - Guns not clipping through objects/players,
    - Ricochet,
    - Gunner seems too tanky, taking some 5-6 shots before getting downed,
    - Electrical warfare (radio signal jamming, forcing players to use nearby voice chat),
    - Drones
Good luck with your game development

3:15 animation looks cool but you don't need to check the feed pawls when you reload in the middle of a fire fight unless you really need to. Also, you don't want to lift the feed tray because a round might cook off. It will happen if you have been shooting a lot. I want to know about the bullet details. I assume all bullets are projectiles and there aren't any hitscan weapons, given the goal of accuracy, but i also really want a game that properly captures how bullets hit terrain, buildings, and objects in the game. They kick up tons of dust, dirt, and debris in the real world. Not only that but i want a game with bullet impact sounds that really make you feel it when bullets strike nearby. I'm pretty sure I see some of this in the footage, but I'm definitely interested in more details.

Honestly, it'd be cool to see a persistent war mode like in Arma. The map is expanded to be larger, there are towns to capture (or lose), objectives to defend, and when one team controls the entire map (or a majority at a pre-designated date) the server will reset, and it'll go again. Of course, this mode probably won't happen. However, it'd be cool.

The most important thing for me in recent war games is the sound of the weapons and the ambient sound (which are way too subdued). When you're in a firefight, you should feel every shot fired and every bullet that grazes you. In short, there should be really loud gunshots, with the sound of the weapons and the impacts of the bullets echoing. Or, when you're in a building and you shoot, you should be able to hear the difference with the walls, etc.

You know what would make your squad creation system next level? Make it so that squad leaders can "lock" certain roles to prevent them from being used. Also some kind of system that "prioritizes" specific roles upon SL's request would be sweet. Gone are the days of asking your squadmates to please switch to medic, or the marksman that refuses to listen because he wants that sweet 7.62x54r. After 1800 hours of squad, I still can't believe they haven't implemented something like this. You could be the first.

    • @thesovietwarbear4551
      @thesovietwarbear4551 9 днів тому +9

That doesn't seem to be the implementation they're going for. Since it's a realistic squad system, there is no choice for which roles people want inside of a squad/fireteam unlike 'Squad'. A full squad is going to have only certain roles, depending on which squad it is. If you want to be a marksman, one squad might have it but another won't, and that's rigidly built into the role selection; and based on the preview in the video, 1st-3rd squads seem to be copies (at least for US rangers). It should only ever be an issue if you don't have a full team.

@rigormortis3219 What they could do is have Squads be locked depending on team size.
So if 1-1 is slotted, 1-2 opens up, if that one is slotted 1-3 opens up...
That way a team won't be fragmented across different squads and special roles cannot be sniped until that squad is open.
In case a group of friends wants to join a squad but there aren't enough free slots they should be able to "pre slot" a locked squad. If there are more pre-slots than open slots, it will automatically open the squad for that group.

Gameplay looks good so far. I like that there is a suppression mechanic, but I would like to see it used for friendly fire too. There are a few scenes where a friendly is firing right near someone else's head. This would have a stunning effect to the friendly who is near the muzzle. This stunning effect could also be used when firing inside. There is another scene where a belt fed fires out a window (past a friendly) and the muzzle is inside. This could have a stunning effect too. Nades and explosives (friendly and not-friendly) would stun/suppress equally to all parties. While I write this, I am thinking that there could be a stun mechanic and a "fear" supression mechanic for maximum immersion.

The better way to pack is by using your index fingers: one to feed and the other to push into the wound. Only pack junctional wounds, meaning pelvic/groin wounds or shoulder wounds. Limb wounds don’t get packed since a tourniquet or pressure dressing is placeable.

The problem with trying to translate this to games is you're already looking at the screen with both eyes open, so replicating that sort of double-vision effect on screen would probably be even more obstructive than just showing the optic housing in focus. Having the optic model go to like 40-50% opacity when aiming would probably be the best of both worlds
