    I really liked you comments on the warranty situation. A lot of this stuff is new to people that have not been exposed to it from the dealer side. Although I never worked for a boat dealer, I did work for an industrial supplier and it was exactly as you said. We always took care of the customers that bought from us first and gave them preferential treatment because they bought from us and the profit from their sale came to us. Just business.

    I had no idea there were only 200,000 boats sold a year recently. I would have guessed that to be much higher. I also never would have guessed the number of bow riders to be so low. It seems like they have really gone out of favor.

    I just bought a 2012 Tracker pro angler 16 with only 12 hours on it. It belonged to a buddy of mine that bought it brand new and never used it. Everything is in perfect shape. It was covered and under cover. I paid $8,500 CASH for it. It's just like the Bass Tracker Classic. I still want my Pontoon but like you said, it will probably be a couple years till things even out.
    I figured this way I could still satisfy my need to get on the water and fish and have a good value trade in when the time is right for the pontoon.

    good video.. I had ordered a new Bennington in 2018. I had a few warranty issues and they along with the dealer were excellent. My items were fixed with zero hassle. I just sold that boat 4 years later for what I bought it for. It was garage kept and in excellent condition. This is the exception, but I have been fortunate with buying new. I am awaiting my new boat now that I ordered.

    So, this is really a class on statistics of the boat manufacturing industry and dealership business, rather than actual problems with the new boats vs used boats or older boats. Are they using a wood frame and wood transom or coosa board? How thick is the fiberglass? What kind of fiberglass fabric is being used? Are new boats made cheaper and lower quality than older boats? We need to know this kind of information. This is an interesting and informational video however, but doesnt give me anything that would help in deciding what manufacturer to purchase from or to stay away from new boats and go with an older boat.

  • @rangertruth4776
    @rangertruth4776 3 роки тому +1

    I agree with you completely .There is large component for human error in boat manufacturing ( especially in the hull lay up , the layers are rolled down by hand ) .
    Your comment on transportation is very true , '' stuff happens '' . Another thing , as in my case , some manufacturers warranties are not transferable to the second owner . In my case a boat less than 2 years old , with 25 hours on it .

  • @tbbaot

    Thinking things are changing drastically, I'm seeing a big demand and a lower supply which is pushing used prices up. People are selling recent model boats for more than they paid for them.

    • @TrentGustus
      @TrentGustus 11 місяців тому

      This has happened with every recreational vehicle, new prices have gone up on motorcycles, atvs and this pushed the price of used up. Financing pushed all this, high interest rates are going to pull the market and the new sales down, causing the manufacturer too either reduce prices, or reduce production and cut back,

    A lot of dealers in my area are good at servicing the motors even if the boat wasn’t bought from them. It’s the boat itself where you can run into issues. However when we purchased a Crownline from the only local Minnesota dealer, they failed on both accounts so there’s that. I’d never buy again. A different non-Crownline dealer fixed the two issues we were having with the mercury outboard; although, we had to pay out of pocket because the original dealer dinked around so much that it went past warranty.

    Thanks for your time pulling this together a great video.
    However, having worked in the auto industry for many years I don’t agree with your configuration comment. A car can typically have a variance of 10 to the power of 15 or 20. I would suspect that’s more than the average boat by a long way. However, I think what you pointing out is modular design in the automotive industry combined with repeatable processes rather than maybe less robust processes in the boat industry.

    Make some bids on a good second hand hull. Most of today's hulls have worse quality than the old ones. Overhaul the engines and drives, change if needed.
    Fix the inside the way you want it. New boats have huge warranty issues.

  • @drodNY

    yes, boats just like cars depreciate but that depends on the type of boat. For example, Jet boats (Yamaha) continue to increase in demand and value. The used ones that are 2-3 years old are selling on the private market for same or more than a new one simply because they are in high demand and very difficult to get. Me and my friends have been on waiting lists of multiple dealers to preorder boats that have yet to come out. People don't like waiting for luxury items. Those not willing to wait a year or two are purchasing a low hours used boats for almost the same cost. Sea-Doo stopped making the Challenger jet boats in 2012 but their boats are still commanding $15k for a 5-7 year old boat, when it was $20k brand new. This pandemic has also reduced the number of available boats, thus creating a higher demand. This demand will continue for a few years. I can't speak on the $100k plus boats.. that may be a totally different scenario.

    The #1 problem with a new _anything_ is it costs too damned much LOL
    On a more serious note, the reliance on "extra" electronics for convenience. Chart-plotters and GPS rather than learning _HOW_ to read a paper chart, use a compass and figuring your real course by "dead-reckoning". Don't get me wrong, if I ever play the right numbers I'm going to be the first in line to get the latest in modern conveniences. But I'm not going to be totally _SCREWED_ when those items go belly up!
