Good advise. I use to take new owners out on their boats. I started on land first going over the boat and trailer then climbed into the boat going over everything and I mean everything. Some demos can go as long as 4 hours with me if it involved dropping the boat in the water and heading out. I always gave them a pad of paper and pen. And my piece of advise to every new boat owner, "You will not remember everything I tell you, but there will be a moment where a light will go off and you will say "Oh yeah, I remember that being pointed out"". "My advise is like a pale of water being thrown on you. Not all of it will stick, but the important parts will remain on you". I really miss doing those demos.
Great advice. I would have put training first. Waaay waaay back, my entire family went through the US Power Squadrons safe boating course. Due to tech history, I learned using dividers, angles, and a parallel straight edge. By the time I was old enough to have a boat, I was competent enough to skipper it offshore, without modern electronics. I would also stress fire safety especially with gasoline engines.
I received a quote for a ranger 2510 from a dealer who added $5,600 for shipping and prep even though it is a national no hassle no-haggle price. Please comment.
Hey Matt, have a more technical question for you. Seen as Yamaha does not provide a NMEA 2000 capable jet boat option, can JBP come up with a way to connect out chart plotters to the engine and other interfaces? I cant even obtain a damn engine temp gage through Yamaha let alone other engine data through a NMEA 2000 interface? Yamaha has this option for their outboards why not the jet boats? Thanks! Dave...

Just saw a video from the Yamaha marine center about 20 FUN boating excursion in Jacksonville. Are you from here?
No, I helped them get started with doing video several years ago. Did that as an example video for them
if i have an inboard is leaving the engine compartment open for a minute or two a safe alternative to running the blower before i start the engine?
Many thanks!
Tie the correct sized bung at every through hull fitting in your boat.
Great as always. Thank you.
Almost there. Just put down the 10% on a 2008 Monterey 290 Sport Cruiser.
