Big fan of diesel for many reasons. Increased resale value, longevity, maintenance, consistent power, and most of all ya don't have to worry about 300 gallons of gas EXPLODING.
I have owned 32+ cruisers for over 30 years and this video for the new buyer was excellent. Buying a boat, especially a used one can be a great experience or a nightmare. Knowledge will help make it a great experience.

Thank you for the info , as I mentioned , I would like to find an all season fresh water marina on Vancouver Island . The cruiser I am looking for , is more for living than cruising I won't be able to buy a cruiser , for another 36 months , when I retire on a very small pension and they way my investments are going with Co Vid , I shall be lucky to afford a bicycle . I shall be living alone on the cruiser , either a cruiser or living in the back of a used van. lol.
I feel like people with cuddy cabins actually anchor somewhere and sleep on their boats more than people with big cruisers that have a full apartment below deck. At least in my area, cruisers by and large seem to be 30ft+ day trip boats, and a lot of them end up as what we call "dockdominiums" because a lot of folks just leave their boat in its slip and come down every single day to hang out on it
Sir : I have a 2002 Formula 27Pc, I love this boat. Everything on your Video was excellent ! One thing about potable water systems in older boats, the plastic elbows in the pex pipe system have rubber washers in them they deteriorate after 7 years. This will cause potable water in the bilge. With 42-50 psi city water pressure this can be a bad leak! Thanks for your outstanding video.

Any boat over 35ft or so you always get a survey and haul out. Good to be there, but they seem to find everything wrong with the boat or needing attention
This is another excellent video that explains the different types of propulsion available on the boat’s length. However, an important note to not forget is that on V-drives, or on any other true inboard engine, you have to maintain the packing glands around the propeller shaft. They can’t be too loose or too tight. Ten drips of water for every minute, or 1 drip every 10 seconds should suffice to keep the drive/propeller shaft cool. Also, some older sterndrive I/O engines had engine synchronizers on them to adjust at idle to prevent annoying vibrations and unwanted torque steer while under way.
If you have the budget look at the LRC58, it is very cheap for its size and ability and is a very very efficient hull. 750k usd (depending on fit out) For a 58 foot cruiser that is self righting and easily able to cross any ocean (7000nm range at 7 knots!)
I don't agree with the cost of gas vs diesel: 20 to 30.000 running hours on modern diesels is not obtainable anymore because of the high specific power output whereas estimated 1000 to 1500 running hours for a gas engine is way too short when well-maintained
@@BennyThePhotographer in my country, roughly half of what it costs to replace or rebuild a diesel engine. Most diesel engines in Holland are Volvo Penta's, and parts and engines are ridicioulisly expensive (€>40.000 for a d4-260)
Just a notice issue, do yachts have DC driven appliances available? Some RV's, trucks, and other land vehicles have "beerferators" to keep maybe a lunch and drink cool. Some RV's even have a type dorm fridge adapted for DC power (or with an inverter). I am just an electrical / software engineer who is out of his normal element here.
Is there a company that specializes in going over everything in a boat in detail to make sure everything is in working order, and also make recommendations on what should be done. There is no way I am qualified to handle this job.
ABSOLUTELY! More boat equals more gross weight, more engines, more maintenance, more fuel usage, more storage/dock cost, more insurance, but more value on average. Please make sure you hire SAMS reputable surveyor! Happy boating!

If you want to extend driving season to autumn and spring but don‘t be forced to always use a/c in the cockpit during summer, what is best? Open with annoying and ugly canopy? T-Top, front side enclosed Hardtop (closed at windshield and open at the sides), 3-sides enclosed Hardtop or fully enclosed coupe? I am looking for a solution that does not has to be closed with the canopy every time you leave the boat, but also is not getting too hot when chilling in the marina. Thank you for your answer!
Carvers and Formulas have great interior space and headroom in their motoryachts and express cruisers. Find a vessel of about 32' or less that can fit securely on a double or triple axle trailer with an average capacity of 9800 lbs. or so! Remember to have your truck in 4x4 when conducting ramp maneuvers! Happy boating!
Hi. I have 2 questions. You bring up impeller alot. On a v drive engine where is the impeller to cool off the engine? You brought up impeller for the generator too. Is it the same impeller for both the engine and generator?
Depends on your specific engine (and you can easily look it up in the manual) but somewhere on the engines themselves. And yes, the gen has its own impeller that is in the generator. There's likely and easy access pannel that will get you wel easy access to change it.

I may charter it out during the winter for trips to Bahamas. Question is I would like a list of manufacturers based on quality. I have not determined as to type of vessel. Probably between a used trawler, power cat or a cruiser yacht with fly bridge. With so many manufacturers like Galeon, Azimut, Leopard, Aquila, MJM, Back Cove etc… it would be great to have an idea of the quality makers. I would figure size range in the 43-55ft area. Anyone else reading this, I would appreciate your help as well. Thanks in advance.

@@derrickcouts my first boat was a 1987 searay 340. Was $30,000 well kept and lots of teakwood. Didnt take it out much from the marina, just went for weekend to relax. You should be somewhat mechanically inclined to do basic stuff and must have some good common sense.

People don't maintain the raw water cooling systems & then need rebuilds or new engines. Also boat engines run at higher RPM's which puts more stress on engines.

I believe the reason they leave bigger boats at Marina is because cost to operate and boats in this size range are much harder to maneuver.

It depends on why to purchase it. Some like to cruise, or fish, or party, socially network, or as a liveaboard. Like anything else, different strokes!

Some of the best built boats were in the 90's. Do some research and call a good broker!
