Jaws, this movie has a lot to answer for. I saw it on its release and from then on I have never gone swimming in the sea again. I'm 62 now and the ocean still scares the crap out of me. Looking forward to part 2 (I think). Great job as usual 🙂
@@cheezemonkeyeater You know after I wrote that I started thinking I don't know if it was the first summer block buster , one could say the Exorcist was ,even though it came out in the fall , but everyone went to see that too.
Although this is an older movie and I have seen a lot of material on the making of Jaws, some of this was still new. The events of the studio, the screenwriting process from book to screen and all the production details all add depth and context to the movies. I have a lot of special edition physical media, I love special features and commentaries and because newer movies (as well as mostly being bad) simply don't bother with either. Content creators like you are helping to make sure that older movies aren't forgotten. Although a remake would be a travesty, just for fun, I asked the Bing AI to create an age-appropriate modern casting. It came up with Oscar Isaac as Brody, Tom Holland as Hooper and Karl Urban as Quint. Urban would make a great Quint but the only obvious cast change for me would be to swap Urban for Josh Brolin.
I loved the land shark bit. lol. Great video. I've often heard little things here and there about the novel, including that there was stuff about voodoo but never took the time to look into it. It's great to finally get the lowdown.
The voodoo stuff was in Jaws 4, but only in the novelization. I hear the book is actually a bit of a hoot with a bunch of crazy concepts and stuff happening.
This is the first time I am happy they didn’t follow the novel, the main characters in the novel is unlikeable, my congratulations to those who rewrote the script. As much as I sympathise with Linda Harrison as an actor myself, but that’s how this business works, it’s not about how many friends you have or who you are married with (with a some exceptions) it’s about being at the right place at the right time. All we can do is being happy for every chance we get and hopefully it will live forever. And one more thing, wow now I have seen two videos with you on this Friday, thank you for making my Friday the best 🙏🏻
If Quint isn't the greatest anti hero in movie history he's up there....whether by blind luck or discerning judgement the casting of Jaws made Spielberg
I've read the novel (years ago) and the Hooper/Ellen affair really does stain the characters. I wonder if Lorraine Gary or Dreyfuss would've pushed back if that subplot had been included in the screenplay. Scheider is perfect in the role, but there is one scene which has always bothered me. When the grieving Ms. Kintner confronts Brody (in her black mourning dress, to boot), right before she slaps him, Scheider delivers his "Yes?" line to her with a lot of impatience and brusqueness. Maybe it's just me, but I've never understood why another more sympathetic take wasn't used, as I'm sure more than one was filmed. It's a bit of acne on an otherwise iconic performance. There's also the infamous Poltergeist-ery jump cut during the autopsy, which Spielberg has curiously never fixed in this day and age of directors futzing around with their films decades later. The connective tissue must've been filmed, so where is it?
What pisses me off is that when Brody tries to go back to help kill the shark, Ellen accuses him of being selfish. As if her affair with Hooper wasn't a selfish act
Everybody says that the book is always better than the movie, but I kinda feel like Jaws proves this isn't true. Jaws is not the worst book I've ever read, but there's a lot of stuff in it that I feel works against it and the movie streamlines the story in a way that removes the problematic baggage and makes it overall flow better.

I was twenty when this movie came out , and this movie was the first Summer Block Buster that I remember , everyone went to see Jaws
It was awesome to see this in the theater back in the day. What an experience.
@@RepresentThis When the head fell out from the wreck of the boat , I literally moved back in shock .
I think it really is the first block buster in history.

Yeah, no remakes for me, but the casting was interesting.
Am really loving this channel/content - only recently discovered it, but it is now a big part of my UA-cam viewing.
So glad you feel that way Paul.
Two videos in one day?! You are spoiling us!
Hopefully we can do the same next month.

@@fredleggett923 Oh, that makes more sense now. I had never looked into the other movies beyond knowing they existed. Thanks for the clarification.
I'm now a fan of this channel that's all I'll say 👊🏾👍🏾
Really glad you are here with us DrDoom.

2 vid drops in one day. Feels like Christmas.
Well hopefully I can do Christmas every month as I build the channel this year.

I've been looking foward to this...
My favorite movie! Yeah!
Out of Jaws and Duel I’ve always preferred Duel.
But boy are we lucky, 2 videos dropped on the same day 👌
The movie improves the book a lot. Although mostly enjoyable, the book left me baffled with the subplots and the antliclimatic ending.
Candygram...

A director terminated for not understanding the material he was asked to work with.
Hollywood really was a different animal once upon a time.
I wonder if that's why films might be better than the past.
Jaws is one of the few movies where the book is worse. The characters are all horrible people. Spielberg added so much charm to the material.
Actually Jurassic Park 1 e 2 too haha. Spielberg has always a human touch to moviemaking, simplicity and knows How to cast extras...
Brody was a grump, Ellen was a cheater, Vaughn was a jerk, Hooper was a chump
What pisses me off is that when Brody tries to go back to help kill the shark, Ellen accuses him of being selfish. As if her affair with Hooper wasn't a selfish act
Yes! I remember reading the book a few years ago and I hated it. The movie spoiled me I guess lol
1:58 can you step back from your mic a bit, it's peaking quite a bit

Yeah, they really trimmed the fat off the book to make the film what it was.
