@@ReactandRamble i have actualy met Mat Swith in person and he is a huge softy. Ps my muther did the same thing as you and didn't watch doctor who with Mat Smith after david left and when she did watch it 7 years latter she loved him and Season 5 and 6 are one of her favorite seasons.
Matt's my favourite Doctor and that says a lot because I was in your shoes when Tennant left too but Matt grew on me and by Series 6, he was my favourite. Such a good actor. His eyes display perfectly the old soul look.

I did watch most of S1-4 of the show, but it was S5-10, where it became must-see TV for me. Smith absolutely nails the 'old soul in a young body' vibe, and I think that this is still the best post-regen/new Doctor episode. Looking forward to seeing how you get on with this era. Subbed.
Tennant and smith are both fantastic doctors. However (I'm probably going to get slayed for this) my favourite doctor was Capaldi, he brings a darker doctor to the show and has a more alien like personality.

All 3 of them are fantastic doctors, however Capaldi is my personal favourite, and many people act like it's sacrilege rating him above the other two, but that's just the deal with having an opinion on the internet.

Matt Smith was my first Doctor, and is still my favorite. I never really cared for Eccleston, and I have nothing bad to say about Tennant, but, in my opinion, this is where the show starts to get really good! The writing, the twists, the story lines, are all amazing.

I was in the same position as you said you've been for years, although I kept going until the end of Season 5 and then stopped, I just couldn't appreciate Matt at all after the explosive emotional send off Tennant got, like after that I felt like Doctor Who had thematically as event TV peaked. Only started watching it through a good few years later, and now I get it completely and whilst Tennant is still my guy, Matt brings so much young chaotic energy to make the role his own that I do love him a lot as the Doctor. You're in for a real treat!

From what I remember of Prisoner Zero’s originally intended backstory, they incited a war by disguising themselves as an army and invading a planet, but Moffat believed it was better if we could come up with our own explanation.

This was actually my introduction to Doctor Who and I have to say, as introductions go, it's pretty hard to beat. I was hooked within the first few minutes. I knew there were some concerns about whether Matt Smith could convincingly pull off a 900+ year-old Time Lord, and in my opinion he did it beautifully. And as you will see, he shows incredible range while playing this character. (Yes, he's my favorite.) Anyway, looking forward to your reactions to the rest of this era! You are in for a treat! 😁

Matt Smith is definitely my favorite Doctor. He has the amazing ability to seem childlike and ancient at the same time. Plus, having Moffat in charge made for some great storytelling.
I’ve watched Doctor Who since 1963, so I’ve seen all of the Doctors. My favourite? Matt Smith. By a country mile. He could convey more in one silent glance than some others ~ particularly the two newest versions ~ could in a whole episode of non-stop gabbling. Old eyes that have seen everything in a young face that’s excited to see more. You’ll enjoy watching him.

Awesome to see fresh reactions to episodes I grew up with. Even as a little kid I was devastated by David Tennant's exit, but this episode was an amazing opener for Matt Smith. Pretty much everyone was worried the show would be over cause of how much David captured the audience, but this was immediately off with a bang and proved everyone wrong in an amazing way. Was amazing to see what you thought of the episode ❤❤
Just realised it is worth noting that this period of Doctor Who has lots of minisodes hoding around - series 5 has 1 between this and the next episode (the first of three this series) "Meanwhile in the Tardis".
Glad you were able to go back and enjoy it, I wasn't as attached to Tennant when the changeover happened and was very eager to see how Moffat would write the series, I suppose I was more engaged by writing than anything else back then. There's actually a real consensus around Series 5 being a strong contender for the best series of the revived show and I can understand why, though I'm ambivalent as to which I'd give that spot to myself, being a real fan of series 9. They might just about be even for me. In any event, there's a lot to enjoy.

The only thing that has changed about the tardis is the interior over the years. It has remained the same size from the outside. The first time i watched doctor who many many years ago tom baker was playing the doctor

Season 5 is peak Doctor Who. It’s so amazing, it has amazing fairy tail vibes the whole way through, Matt is brilliant and so is Karen. Nothing has beaten it since!
Karen Gillan as Amy Pond is fantastic. Defiantly my favorite Companion. She's in the MCU as well as Nebula. Such a difference in performance it's great, but when she gets to be more lighthearted and funny down the line you can see more clearly that its still Karen underneath it all.
I really should go back and check out the older Doctor Who episodes. Matt and David, although different, do have a similarity aswell to them that I like.😄

Matt is my favorite as well. He had the best companions, and there will be another companion jenna colman in season 7 that will go on into Peter Capaldi's Dr. Season 8-10 She is my favorite companion of all. And while I didn't like Peter Capaldi at first he has become one of my favorites as well.
I love Jenna Colman, she was in this series called Victoria which I thought she was brilliant in! I’m looking forward to Capaldi so it’s good to know you warmed up to him😊

I'm glad to see another reactor deciding to catch up beyond David Tennant going through the journeys of Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi and Jodie Whittaker hopefully, you have alot of exciting adventures ahead of you to catch up on i been watching Dr. Who since 1998 for me when The Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker) left who was the Doctor for 7 years and one of the most popular it took me years to warm up to the Fifth Doctor (Peter Davison) but eventually i did hopefully you will with Matt. Do you plan on going back to Eccleston Series 1 or check out Classic Who and The 1996 TV Movie at some point? I think Matt Smith is amazing he's has that childlike quality he's basically an old man in a young man's body and most alien of the modern Doctors and he is the youngest actor to take on the role at the age of 26. Amy Pond one of my favourite companions of New Who i like her sassiness and it's nice to have a companion that doesn't have a family for a change as i was starting to get bored with that after Donna Noble because i hate the Doctor being used as a taxi service because i feel Dr. Who should reflect on science fiction not kitchen sink dramas. Whenever the Doctor regenerates yes it does sometimes take awhile for the regeneration to kick-in and for him to recover as it is a process some Doctors take awhile some recover very quickly but underneath all that he's still the same man with different personality changes. The TARDIS crashlanding in Amy's garden was accidental at first after that explosive regeneration that caused damage to the TARDIS but i think it was after he came back for Amy when he started to take an interest in her to see what's going on. The young and older versions of Amy Pond the actresses that played them Karen Gillan and Caitlin Blackwood are real life cousins and have never once met before until the filming of this episode.
I am really looking forward to getting back in to the show, what I've watched I have enjoyed so far! Wow, I had no idea Tom Baker was the Doctor for that long. It's totally understandable you felt that way, it seems like we were in the same situation, I'm getting there with Matt! So, I did watch Eccelston back in 2005 and I loved him, I originally disliked Tennant (I clearly have a problem with letting go lol) I will consider checking out classic Who, so maybe but no guarantees :) I 100% agree, also I had no idea he was so young! I do like a kitchen sink drama but we needed something different so it is nice to have a companion without the family. Thanks for explaining that, I was confused with how long regeneration takes. Wait, they never MET until filming?! That is wild!
As amazing as David Tennant is, as is Christopher Eccleston, Matt Smith is still my favorite of the NuWho error of Doctor Who. David Tennant probably had a larger collection of well written episodes under his belt, but Matt Smith just had a bit more range and depth to his portrayal I feel. Not that David Tennant didn’t, but I think Matt Smith just brought it to another level. Peter Capaldi, in and of himself as the doctor, was amazing. It’s just a shame that the writing quality went downhill fast during his tenure. As for Jodie Whittaker, I feel she suffered from the same problem even more. Has she existed during the golden age of NuWho, she might’ve done a fantastic job. As it stands though, her run was absolutely horrible. And Ncuti Gatwa, to my mind, just does not have the same presents as David Tennant or Matt Smith. Not to mention that the writing these days from Russell T. And Moffett is nowhere near on par with where it was at nearly 20 years ago, and is full of identity politics.
I can’t wait to see more of Matt Smith but at the moment I’m bias towards David🙈I’m still really looking forward to Capaldi but thats quite sad he never got good storylines. Interesting comment, Thanks!💖
You picked up a parental vibe. They set that up this episode. I think she’s always that seven year old little girl to him. And he has no idea how young he looks. This followed tenants last story …minutes after. The doctor is always the doctor. He has some personality change when he regenerates but he is still always the same person. I look on it as though the new physiology gives some differences in personality but his soul is the same. I had the same reaction you did, but it was when Tom baker regenerated into Peter Moffat back in the 1970s. I didn’t watch again until my kids were watching Tennant. What got me was when I watched Tennant I could see bits of Tom Bakers doctor. I went back and started watching some episodes of the other early doctors. It’s amazing how the same they are. They are all the doctor.
Ok, glad it wasn't just in my head! I had no idea this follows so soon after Tennant. That explanation helps me to understand regeneration better as I was never sure if it was only the memories that are the same. Glad its not just me that struggles with letting go of a Doctor but that's good your kids got you back into it! So, different personality but same soul💖

To be fair I originally hated Tennant when Eccleston regenerated but he grew on me and really a big reason was his relationship with Rose and how amazing an actor David is. I do like Amy and Matt but my fave is Tennant and Rose! I have only seen one episode of the new Doctor so far and I thought he was good, I will need to watch more to form a better opinion😊
With this episode, I felt like Matt Smith didn't quite make the role his own. I had the impression that the writers were still writing with David Tennant in mind, and Smith was struggling to put his own stamp on it. It only took a couple of episodes to win me over, though. Smith and the writers seemed to get on the same wavelength very quickly, and some of the episodes they produced are up there with the best of the Tennant era. Enjoy!

I think personally David Tennant is the most highly overrated Doctor he was great in some areas but there were parts to his Doctor that super annoyed me i like Matt Smith but the next one after him Peter Capaldi is one my favourite and the best Doctor out of the whole of New Who in my opinion probaly the best since Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker.
It's interesting to see what Doctor people like from Classic Who and New Who. I myself am a fan of Troughton from classic, and Smith from new. The versions are so similar. Likewise fans of Capaldi seem to enjoy Baker from Classic. All have their own merits, I just think it's fun to compare...

@@ReactandRamble Matt Smith, and likewise Patrick Troughton, are the (grand)father figures in their tenure. Always having fun and happy in a family environment, the family aspect works well with this doctor as you'll see, I don't want to spoil the companion situation. If your interested in classic who (theres a lot on the bbc app) the try the Tomb of the Cybermen, it's a little cheesy by modern standards, but its fun, and is one of Troughtons earlier, stronger performances.

As devestating as the ending of Tennant's run was, Matt Smith is incredibly brilliant as the Doctor and Amelia Pond makes for a tremendous companion.

I can definitely see both qualities, I really enjoy Matt Smith's interpretation of the Doctor. Steven Moffat is of course great!

I’ve watched Doctor Who since 1963, so I’ve seen all of the Doctors. My favourite? Matt Smith. By a country mile. He could convey more in one silent glance than some others ~ particularly the two newest versions ~ could in a whole episode of non-stop gabbling. Old eyes that have seen everything in a young face that’s excited to see more. You’ll enjoy watching him.

Awesome to see fresh reactions to episodes I grew up with. Even as a little kid I was devastated by David Tennant's exit, but this episode was an amazing opener for Matt Smith. Pretty much everyone was worried the show would be over cause of how much David captured the audience, but this was immediately off with a bang and proved everyone wrong in an amazing way.

Glad you were able to go back and enjoy it, I wasn't as attached to Tennant when the changeover happened and was very eager to see how Moffat would write the series, I suppose I was more engaged by writing than anything else back then. There's actually a real consensus around Series 5 being a strong contender for the best series of the revived show and I can understand why, though I'm ambivalent as to which I'd give that spot to myself, being a real fan of series 9. They might just about be even for me.
In any event, there's a lot to enjoy.
So that’s really interesting to know that this series is viewed as the strongest, I’m looking forward to getting into it! And for season 9 too😊

Season 5 is peak Doctor Who. It’s so amazing, it has amazing fairy tail vibes the whole way through, Matt is brilliant and so is Karen. Nothing has beaten it since!

Karen Gillan as Amy Pond is fantastic. Defiantly my favorite Companion. She's in the MCU as well as Nebula. Such a difference in performance it's great, but when she gets to be more lighthearted and funny down the line you can see more clearly that its still Karen underneath it all.
I couldn't believe how different she was as Nebula! She is a brilliant actress.😊
Despite being an OLD Tom Baker fan, Matt and David are about tied for top Doctor, in my opinion. Thouroughly enjoyed these two as The Doctor.
I really should go back and check out the older Doctor Who episodes. Matt and David, although different, do have a similarity aswell to them that I like.😄
Even if not their favourite, no-one hates Matt's Doc.
I was exactly the same, think I stopped watching for 8 years after David left but wow I wish I didn't cause Matt's run is something special

Matt is my favorite as well.
He had the best companions, and there will be another companion jenna colman in season 7 that will go on into Peter Capaldi's Dr. Season 8-10
She is my favorite companion of all.
And while I didn't like Peter Capaldi at first he has become one of my favorites as well.
I love Jenna Colman, she was in this series called Victoria which I thought she was brilliant in! I’m looking forward to Capaldi so it’s good to know you warmed up to him😊

I'm glad to see another reactor deciding to catch up beyond David Tennant going through the journeys of Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi and Jodie Whittaker hopefully, you have alot of exciting adventures ahead of you to catch up on i been watching Dr. Who since 1998 for me when The Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker) left who was the Doctor for 7 years and one of the most popular it took me years to warm up to the Fifth Doctor (Peter Davison) but eventually i did hopefully you will with Matt.
Do you plan on going back to Eccleston Series 1 or check out Classic Who and The 1996 TV Movie at some point?
I think Matt Smith is amazing he's has that childlike quality he's basically an old man in a young man's body and most alien of the modern Doctors and he is the youngest actor to take on the role at the age of 26.
Amy Pond one of my favourite companions of New Who i like her sassiness and it's nice to have a companion that doesn't have a family for a change as i was starting to get bored with that after Donna Noble because i hate the Doctor being used as a taxi service because i feel Dr. Who should reflect on science fiction not kitchen sink dramas.
Whenever the Doctor regenerates yes it does sometimes take awhile for the regeneration to kick-in and for him to recover as it is a process some Doctors take awhile some recover very quickly but underneath all that he's still the same man with different personality changes.
The TARDIS crashlanding in Amy's garden was accidental at first after that explosive regeneration that caused damage to the TARDIS but i think it was after he came back for Amy when he started to take an interest in her to see what's going on.
The young and older versions of Amy Pond the actresses that played them Karen Gillan and Caitlin Blackwood are real life cousins and have never once met before until the filming of this episode.
I am really looking forward to getting back in to the show, what I've watched I have enjoyed so far! Wow, I had no idea Tom Baker was the Doctor for that long. It's totally understandable you felt that way, it seems like we were in the same situation, I'm getting there with Matt!
So, I did watch Eccelston back in 2005 and I loved him, I originally disliked Tennant (I clearly have a problem with letting go lol) I will consider checking out classic Who, so maybe but no guarantees :)

The reason for Amys change in personality was because of everything she went through with people not believing in the Doctor.
As amazing as David Tennant is, as is Christopher Eccleston, Matt Smith is still my favorite of the NuWho error of Doctor Who. David Tennant probably had a larger collection of well written episodes under his belt, but Matt Smith just had a bit more range and depth to his portrayal I feel. Not that David Tennant didn’t, but I think Matt Smith just brought it to another level. Peter Capaldi, in and of himself as the doctor, was amazing. It’s just a shame that the writing quality went downhill fast during his tenure. As for Jodie Whittaker, I feel she suffered from the same problem even more. Has she existed during the golden age of NuWho, she might’ve done a fantastic job. As it stands though, her run was absolutely horrible. And Ncuti Gatwa, to my mind, just does not have the same presents as David Tennant or Matt Smith. Not to mention that the writing these days from Russell T. And Moffett is nowhere near on par with where it was at nearly 20 years ago, and is full of identity politics.
I can’t wait to see more of Matt Smith but at the moment I’m bias towards David🙈I’m still really looking forward to Capaldi but thats quite sad he never got good storylines. Interesting comment, Thanks!💖

You picked up a parental vibe. They set that up this episode. I think she’s always that seven year old little girl to him. And he has no idea how young he looks. This followed tenants last story …minutes after. The doctor is always the doctor. He has some personality change when he regenerates but he is still always the same person. I look on it as though the new physiology gives some differences in personality but his soul is the same. I had the same reaction you did, but it was when Tom baker regenerated into Peter Moffat back in the 1970s. I didn’t watch again until my kids were watching Tennant. What got me was when I watched Tennant I could see bits of Tom Bakers doctor. I went back and started watching some episodes of the other early doctors. It’s amazing how the same they are. They are all the doctor.
Ok, glad it wasn't just in my head! I had no idea this follows so soon after Tennant.
That explanation helps me to understand regeneration better as I was never sure if it was only the memories that are the same.

To be fair I originally hated Tennant when Eccleston regenerated but he grew on me and really a big reason was his relationship with Rose and how amazing an actor David is. I probably should have pushed through but I was young and I’m doing it now😊 I like Matt Smith but I’m looking forward to Peter Capaldi

With this episode, I felt like Matt Smith didn't quite make the role his own. I had the impression that the writers were still writing with David Tennant in mind, and Smith was struggling to put his own stamp on it. It only took a couple of episodes to win me over, though. Smith and the writers seemed to get on the same wavelength very quickly, and some of the episodes they produced are up there with the best of the Tennant era. Enjoy!
Yeah, it did seem like he was giving Tennant’s Doctor. Nearer the end of the episode I felt like he was beginning to become his own Doctor.

I think personally David Tennant is the most highly overrated Doctor he was great in some areas but there were parts to his Doctor that super annoyed me i like Matt Smith but the next one after him Peter Capaldi is one my favourite and the best Doctor out of the whole of New Who in my opinion probaly the best since Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker.
It's interesting to see what Doctor people like from Classic Who and New Who. I myself am a fan of Troughton from classic, and Smith from new. The versions are so similar. Likewise fans of Capaldi seem to enjoy Baker from Classic. All have their own merits, I just think it's fun to compare...
Everyone has their favourite Doctor😊well now I feel even more excited to see Peter Capaldi! He is the Doctor I have most been looking forward to.

@@ReactandRamble Matt Smith, and likewise Patrick Troughton, are the (grand)father figures in their tenure. Always having fun and happy in a family environment, the family aspect works well with this doctor as you'll see, I don't want to spoil the companion situation. If your interested in classic who (theres a lot on the bbc app) the try the Tomb of the Cybermen, it's a little cheesy by modern standards, but its fun, and is one of Troughtons earlier, stronger performances.
