At some point Ford should realize that one should have to disassemble the entire car in your driveway piece by piece to change the battery. If they could just get that done then people would just simply go out and buy a new car instead of a new battery for their existing car

There are a number of comments that it is unnecessary to remove the air filter. This depends on the length of the battery. The UK and European Ford Focus is fitted with an EFB stop-start battery which is typically longer and heavier. Therefore, it is not usually possible to lift these out without removing the air filter. One of the other videos showing battery removal from a Ford Focus (without removing the air filter) is for battery type BXT-96R-500 fitted to the US model. This battery is 2" shorter than a typical EFB battery.

Useful video to watch beforehand, but you can actually sneak it out by removing just the air box cover and displacing the front of the battery tray.
No radio code issues with a 2016 Focus 1.5 ecoboost. Just reset the battery monitoring system after replacing the battery:
    - Ignition on (don't start engine)
    - Wait 10 seconds
    - Press rear fog light button 5x
    - Press hazard lights button 3x
    - Wait a few seconds
    - Battery symbol flashes (done)
(Tested on UK model, I expect process is different for US models)

Great video with clear and concise instruction. However, it doesn’t need to be this complicated. The battery in this particular video is larger than the factory installed battery which is a group 96R and is quite small. Perhaps there was a specific model that came with this size somewhere, but all were 96R batteries here in the states. So really all that’s necessary to remove the battery is to remove the top cover (front and rear pieces, if applicable), the negative chassis connection (to the right of the battery), the positive terminal connection and then the front battery tray cover (which internally contains fusible links for the power distribution from the alternator to the battery and fuse box). Once the front cover is wedged forward, the battery can be pulled forward while simultaneously lifting to pull it out at an angle. It’s super easy with the factory 96R battery. I replaced mine with a group 48 battery, which is slightly larger than the battery in this video, and I still only removed the pieces I listed. It’s definitely harder with a larger, 50lb battery, but still possible. But if you’d wish to add a larger battery with less struggle and have plenty of time, the method in the video is a great way to avoid the hard work👍🏻

All you need to do is remove the top cover, partially gently disconnect the front panel (it uses a simple snapping mechanism), remove the holding bar, disconnect black the red terminal, then lift forward and up at the same time. Then you just do everything in reverse to install the new battery. Done properly it takes about 10 minutes.

Just a tip so you don't end up like me if you go to replace your battery preferably before it's actually bad like my 6 yo factory one make sure you slave of to another 12 volt power source to the cables before disconnecting old battery if you don't there is a 50/50 chance your transmission will loose its programming and will have to be re flashed and that won't work so ford now wants 2500 to fix a transmission that was fine before replacing a damn car battery!!!

For all people who are saying it is difficult, it isn't. They just did it completely wrong. All I did was remove the battery door in front of the battery (there's just two tabs), and the battery can wedge out with some force. Saves you the two hours of labor lmao. Haynes manuals doesn't know what they're doing. Ford designed it to be easy. Look at other videos on UA-cam where they do it right.

    • @HaynesManuals
      @HaynesManuals  3 роки тому +2

Thanks for you comments. As I'm sure you can appreciate, there are always different methods of carrying out jobs, but we have to err on the side of caution. Applying force to the battery casing could have disastrous results should the casing crack and leak. Although the gel in AGM batteries probably won't leak out, if it's a traditional lead-acid one - the acid solution will leak.
It will take longer to removing the battery using our video, but the risk of injury or damage is minimised. Thanks again, we always value your feedback.

All of this crap just to change a f-ing battery! Such BS!! Buying this car was a *huge* mistake! One thing after another! *4 factory recalls* I've had to deal with already and 2 being the transmission!!

It's an 8 minute job if you just disconnect the battery, the hold-down, and unsnap the front of the box. The battery can be wiggled out.

@@rcbif101lol thank you but I jumped it off with the other car. Drove it to O'Reilly's and they actually refused to replace so I drove nextdoor to AutoZone and they did it for me😊
Side note: I didn't have the right tool to reach in and loosen the hold bar. Every other car I've had the battery is directly in the front and all I had to do was pull it out. 🤷🏻‍♀️

@@TarHeelForevah Yeah the "modern" Focuses (starting in 2002 or 2004 at least) are insanely over-engineered. Have you looked up where the cabin air filter is located? You have to actually remove the gas pedal to get to it. Owning a Focus has really turned me off of Ford as a brand.

@@Shaxigaming holy crap! Seriously?!? Mine is a 2014. We're thinking about getting rid of it. I received a letter from Ford saying they're doing some sort of buyback. My car has been literally labeled as a *LEMON* by Ford themselves! I'm so upset with myself not doing the research! It was appealing bc it only had 16,000 miles and was reasonably priced and I needed a car quick! Never again!

@@TarHeelForevah Yeah same here. I was just 17 when I got mine, but I had two people with me who are supposed to know cars very well but apparently they didn't know the drawbacks of the Focuses.
