Decided to modify my own shift rails with jb's instructions, But just received my ecobox205 triple flush mount shifter today and must say it is a very nice unit. Excellent quality and appearance. Thanks!!
I bought JB's shift rail kit and knocked this out today on a GM NP205. I finagled with the allan wrench and rail trying to get them in and lost the shift fork alignment on both sides. Easy enough tho, I had to remove the inspection plate on one side and the bearing retainer plate on the other, use a long tool and flip them back up into place a few times to get the rail in. My case was freshly rebuilt and dry. This is a great kit and shifters!
Very nice explanation, first time that I got the concepts and how it works. Very nice quality products/shifter you sold me last week as well, thank you.
Thanks for sharing that, your product seems to get a lot of attention.. The install was interesting, but there seems to be a recurring thread in this type of modification video. Specifically, is the re-installation. In your video, you were met with some resistance and you were able to overcome that resistance, but you did so during a video skip and a quick blurb about using a magnet on a line to reallign the shift rail. So, for those of us who are thinking about doing this, that raises some questions.. I suppose looking at a 205 tear down and reconditioning video, I can see the internals
How far is the roll pin tapped back in? So it’s sitting centered on the shift rail? It’s stated *until it changes sound* but mine will just tap all the way through into the case again
Pretty sure I dropped both shift forks in the case… is there a video for what to do when that happens? 😂 I’m guessing the only option is to break it down to pull them out and then reposition them.
roll the case around on the bench until you can see the shift-fork through the shift-rail hole. capture the shift-fork by sticking a long screwdriver through the shift-rail hole in the fork. Roll the case upright, manipulate the fork back into the position where you can get the roll pin hole lined up, and start over with the inserting the rail.
Wish they didn't tell me to watch this video, because I was using my own rails. Ended up removing the front for nothing, my kit didnt come with new seals either.
The replacement (pre-modified) shift-rails come with new seals. If you reused your own rails you can get the seals from us for a couple of dollars each.
OK so we all know why we grind the long shaft but in almost every video the short shaft is never a problem. Why do you sell the short side if not needed mods?
Cleanest 205 I’ve ever seen in my life. Fantastic vid.

The professional nature of your video makes me want to buy your products.
Well done, great instruction. And no distracting music. :)
I just got your shifter and rail kit for my np205 . Nice piece 👍

You have to use a bigger punch than the roll pin so that when the roll pin is seated in the hole the punch will only strike the shift rail
I liked the video. There was a subliminal pyramid there.😱😃!! just kitting! !
Would this procedure work on a 1972 gm np205? Wanting to replace the 2 seals.
Yes sir, that is the way I would do it if I didn't need to tear down the whole case
@@JBCustomFab Thank you..
Great video!
So I have the pin out and im pulling back on the rail, and its just wont come out it feels solid.
Ford or GM/dodge?
Make sure the other one is in the neutral position,
@@JBCustomFab its Ford
@@baja5000 Try the other rail first sometimes on the Ford 205s that will help.
I can’t get Either side out.I can get it out to where I see three notches and then it’s like somethings just holding it back
got my shift rails today... how can I tell which goes where if install one at a time they are different lengths? BTW, my application is GM.
+James Dean The long one is for the front drive (farthest form the centerline of the transfer case).
