I was in Berlin around this time. Wandered into a record store (remember those?) and Gloria was playing on the speakers, followed by Tomorrow. I thought "if angels wrote rock music, this is what it would sound like." I was totally blown away, bought the October album and brought it back to the States. Played it for all my friends and made some converts. Now here we are 36 years later and I am still a fan. BTW - Dublin back then looks like some kind of apocalyptic wasteland. How did such gorgeous music come out of that environment?
James Miller I agree with Bono, it has a decayed elegance about it. I am fascinated by this type of industrial architecture. Sadly, much of what you see in this video has now been torn down for high-priced condos
This is 1984 I am sure. Some may think it is 1982 because of Bono mentioning the 'Gloria' video, that came out in 1981. The video for 'Gloria' was filmed in Dublin's dockland, it was filmed on the same day as the cover for the 'October' album (1981) was photographed. Both the cover and the video were shot in dockland that same day in 1981. Have a look at Adam's jacket on the 'October' album cover, I read Bill Flanagan's book "U2: At The End Of The World" which is about the ZooTv tour of 1992/3. In one of the interviews in the book Bono refers to the 'October' album cover - taken some 11 or 12 years earlier - and says "my goodness - Adam's jacket!", referring to how Adam could have made a slightly better choice of clothes on that day back in 1981. Here is the picture, Adam is certainly wearing an odd jacket! i.ytimg.com/vi/Qsrhqrk4fes/maxresdefault.jpg
I visited Ireland in 86 and 88, and actually walked on the docks where this was recorded. Even saw Larry Mullen coming out of Windmill Lane Studios. Sadly, it’s all changed now as the area has been redeveloped. According to a friend in Dublin) I have great memories of those trips!
MTV Happy St. Patrick’s Day Message In 1982, U2 filmed a “Happy St. Patrick’s Day” message for MTV music television. At this point, MTV had placed U2′s Gloria Video into heavy rotation, setting the stage for the War videos to come a year later. During the message, U2 walks around the Dublin Docklands. First broadcast March 17th, 1982. View the video on UA-cam by clicking here.

All you have to do is look at their hair:1984 Unforgettable Era....there is no doubt!
I love this acoustic version of "Tomorrow." Anyone know if that version is available online in its entirety?

This was just before they recorded the Unforgettable Fire album.
No it wasn't. This is 1982 and Unforgettable Fire was 1984. They were probably working on War during this time.
