Thanks very much for this - definitely the best explainer of this very cute solo. (The ads are a real pain though when going back and forth .. so many!)
So Good Jon. SO damn good!! Thnx for this lesson. I know it's been a few years since you recorded this, but honestly I just found you. It means a lot - important song for me. Very appreciated.
noticed that Jon is wearing pics that I think are called Alaska pics? Ordered them and hope they are the right size. How are they compared to the other standard pics? Thanks Nancy
+imgijoe119 It depends on which version you listen to. Listen to 1:12 of this version. ua-cam.com/video/WM7-PYtXtJM/v-deo.html It may be a mistake, but he's given to doing that sort of pattern at times. That's how pretty much all of Big Love is done. Personally, I think it's a phrase in his vocabulary but it's not a terribly consequential point. It doesn't sound much different one way or another. I tend to look for the less common phrases since the common ones are already well known. Take that as you will.
+Jon Michael Swift Yes, it is an inconsequential point in the whole of things and I agree he does play it with different intricacies in different performances even including that ""Never Going Back Again" type picking that is often overlooked, but nonetheless, I am convinced he alternates here. I mean, he is so rock solid on that alternating bass, including throughout the solo (except for the end run), it is not likely that he would break on that little lick. And frankly, it sounds better alternating so the proof is in the pudding as they say. I couldn't imagine a reason he wouldn't play it this way. I guess I am pushing this because when I teach people this song (and picking), that unbreakable Travis bass picking is the first point I make. As far as interpretation, I do play parts of this song differently than you so I am not making the point based on "my way". I just think that this is an error (in my opinion) in an otherwise great lesson and was worth correcting. I do want to add that although I nitpicked that part of your lesson, I think you did an awesome job in these Landslide lessons incorporating the different things he has done with this song and I did play with some of the things you do differently than I. You certainly put in the time and I respect that. I have checked out some of your lessons to. Nice work and nice voice to boot. So take the comments for what they are worth to you...maybe not much.
Point definitely taken, and well thought out. Rather than continually making counter-cases I'm going to appreciate the thoughts and go do some research on "Never Going Back Again." Never seen that one yet.
+Jon Michael Swift Cool. Geeze, Never Going Back Again... it was my fingerpicking nemesis for a long time. Thumb on 4's while picking the fingers on 3's. It is a testament to Lindsay Buckingham's skills and actually good lesson material for advancing picking skills. You can hear some of that pattern buried in some of the live versions of Landslide and I think you elude to it somewhat in your variations lesson. You have good skills so you might pick it up outright or even have that pattern in your repertoire already. Anyway, once you get it, it is a really fun song to play. Good luck with it. Make a comment on it later, I would be interested on your take.
ua-cam.com/video/c70Hf4KpToU/v-deo.html I highly suggest checking out this guys tutorial. I'm not dogging this one though. Honestly, I didn't watch the entire video but that's because it's inaccurate from the start. I noticed this tutorial in my feed (as I was practicing the version in the link above) and clicked this one out of curiosity. Surprisingly, this one's harder to follow. ShutUpAndPlay is spot on in every tutorial he uploads. Spot on = EXACTLY how the original artist plays the song (Lindsay Buckingham in this case). I also suggest giving his full song tutorial of Landslide a shot. It's incredible how in depth he goes. He dissects everything and doesn't miss one beat. I was amazed to discover how much is really going on in that song. If you're like me, you'll spend a lot of time giving up, coming back and rewinding certain parts, give up again, etc. Until you finally make progress and nail it. I never comment on UA-cam, let alone a novel worthy one, but it's truly amazing how well put together his lessons are, and I felt it worth mentioning for any potential interested self-taught players like myself.
Your Landslide series is without question top shelf. Thank you! 👏👏👏👏👏
I love this approach to learning new stuff. I can't than you enough for your efforts. I went to your site and bought some stuff as well.
don't you love when he says "here is where it starts to get tricky" 😂 excellent lesson.
Superb lesson. Who needs to pay for lessons when there are people like you. Much appreciated!
If only. Thanks for the thought, though!

Remember his record and live version different. Brilliant nevertheless. Second to in my life solo done on guitar
got confused on the second part of second part
What kind of finger picks are those?
Nice but need tabs. Thanks
why not mention what strings your left hand is hitting?
haha looks like those hoola hoop crisps on his hands
started acoustic first day of 2020 and learned the solo from this video in 2 days, you rule
Hellz Yeah!
your face when you play lmao
Nice job but there's no "pulsing" or "droning" on the A (3:45). Its an alternating bass on that lick the same as the rest of the song during the Am7.

The bass pattern could be better - this is my warm up
