This video walks through the Blacksmith process I use to make Zebra Pattern Damascus using the Canister Welding method. Booyah! Century FC90 Flux Core Welder amzn.to/2UedM59
I’m getting a press going this week- so far only made damascus by hand and stuck with low layers. I’m getting a very similar pattern by tig welding my stack and dry welding it in the forge- no can. I draw it out to double length from 6”x 1.5”x 6/8” (six .125 layers) to 12” long a round bar, then twist. The round bar picks up much less cold shuts since it has no corners to spiral.
Booyah!!! Amazing piece of damascus!!! I'll be sending you some wood tomorrow or next week. I believe I have the perfect piece of wood for this Zebra Damascus 😉
Great question, the press can help get you started but the power hammer is where you finish forge welding, drawing out, and shaping the material - The power hammer is also faster than my press. Hope that helps
Woooooo! Great vid... Enjoyed it to maybe becoming one myself... You sure looked like you were having a good time.. was cool to watch you in speed mode but yet in detail of your canister removal part...funny on the smooches! Zebra Damascus was cool looking.. I like tribal and ladder... Be well and Thank you! Blue Skeleton
I'm sorry, but 2 more welds, and in this technique, you'd get this.: www.arhangelskie.com/index.php/galereya/16-g-marii#prettyPhoto[galleryb889631b83]/185/
..first you call me a horse's butt, then tell me to clean my can, Oh wait, that's my wifey. Good job Rick !! You just started to see the pattern before you cleaned it up. The Ferric Chloride made it POP...!!
Hey Hey Simon - yes the can removal is a pain in my can ha ha - the air chisel was a big help. Say hey to all your beautiful girls and hope the gang is doing well.

Thank you bud, hey maybe Zebra wood would look good with the black white ebony for your Tanto??
Rick Rabjohn I'll send you a few 2" square x 6" pieces for ya!
I bet that would look good on your knife
Got you message on leaving some hang-out at the end of handle - no problem on that.
I love watching these kinds of videos. I’m fascinated by the process but know nothing about it. What does a power hammer do that the press wouldn’t?

Thank You very mch!,
On 6: 23rd excellent decision. Thanks.
Well done sir!
you did good
Why clean the canister with acetone if it’s only gonna get covered in white out and not meant to be welded to the billet ?
If the can is clean, it helps the white out stick .
Very nice.
booyah!
