Cole uses the autotune to differentiate the sounds of old school and new school hip hop. He only used the autotune when he was talking about the new school rappers but when he was talking about the OG’s in the first verse, there was no autotune.
Just thinking out loud. Didnt J Cole spend time working with the biggest names in the industry?? Jay - Z, Kanye, Nas,...just to name a few. He spent time learning from the industry leaders. Now hes out on his own... On his own label... Amassing an army of new rappers and aiming the whole thing right at the top.... Dudes a genius. The Truth. He deserves his spot at the top.
I don't think so. I appreciate what he's doing, but he's pretty overrated. Much like these guys, y'all overhype this dude. KOD got overshadowed by the several better albums that came out last year.
@@marcussmart1002 you can think that. I haven't listened to KOD since it came out. Until this showed in my notifications, I forgot this album came out.
I also appreciated the contrast throughout the song. The dirty shoes with the Bentley, 21 Savage and Jigga, and most importantly how he used his natural voice in the first verse and used auto tune in the second verse. It fit with the middle child theme perfectly.
@Rico Rico listen to it again bro it's good, J Cole clutched that song and was a good influence on 21 savage; his lyrics are at least coherent in that one
He has the older pen with a young sound (bass in the beat, autotune). He has adapted both generation of hip hop in every possible way; lyrics, production, delivery to create this middle child persona and even show the newer rappers that a banger can still have great lyrics.
I love that your channel isnt just quietly listening to the song and repeating lines, but actually interpreting the lyrics and using your opinions and experiences to draw new ideas and reflect. You all know how to react!
Still can't listen to him since. It's just embarrassing. The reason he dipped is good. It's about support and love. But he stepped up like the bully, and you poked the bullys elbow and he fell over and cried. That's j Cole now. ((And now recently he's back talking like he's the best and coolest. Like STFU or you'll get your elbow poked again.))
You guys (and the watchers) have an amazing taste in music. As a metalhead (favorite bands: Gojira, Tool, Mastodon, Deftones) I am equally interested in the hip-hop world and J.Cole to me is definitely the best rapper out there right now. He has the flows, the beats and the lyrics. He reminds me so much of the old school rap I love (Nas, 2Pac, Wu-Tang). His music has helped me so much and I love how well he's doing right now. I used to think he was underrated but man he's climbing that mountain to the top without a problem. Thank you for reacting to this one!
As a person who listens to different genres from hip hop to rock being both a huge fan of J Cole and also a huge fan of tool it’s so refreshing seeing you guys appreciate music of all forms and not sticking to one genre I love this I love you
Notice how he doesn't use autotune for the first verse and after he talks about being in the middle of the generations, the OGs (who dont use auto tune) and the new wave (who do) he use's it on the second. The symbolism from Cole is unreal!
Your channel really help me understand and feel the bars rappers spit out because English is my second language so I seem to miss alot of bars. Love how you guys always see different things so foreigner like me get to feel both side of it. Every song feels different when I fully understand it. Like when I was young I was really confused what eminem was tryna say with that "mom's spaghetti" line but now I get it and I feel the intensity of the song more and more.
I love how concentrated Cole’s messaging has become over the past few years. He definitely understands how desperately the culture needs positive male role models on the forefront.
Honestly the flow for me doesnt matter that much, sure not as good as people thought but this isnt a flex song at all. J cole just wants time and space to spit what he has to say and show his position in the rap game. True fire though, definetely Coles year coming up.
I love how his beats and lyrics are very unique and has that special instrument effect with still no disrespect to anyone but still awakening to life😍He's the best🇬🇾
4:43 ya'll are spot on. Say the things that need to be said. Cole and Kendrick are amazing at sending important messages to their fanbases. This is why Cole is so important. I feel like if you want to be elevated and really think you listen to Cole or Kendrick. Their music is a very specific sub genre within the genre of rap. They're in a league of their own
Love you guys for the reviews so please please please dont leave the scene. I love all music. I'm a country and classic rock guy first tho. And y'all love your hip hop. So I love seeing you actually analyze the TALENT of the country singers and break down the lyrics. When it comes to hip hop, I only know I like it or dont and I love a lot of it. So your analysis and breakdown sheds light on parts of this genre I never thought too deep about. Please dont stop the country lol and if I can recommend one? My jam right now is Girl Like You by Jason Aldean. Hope you react, if not, keep up the good vids and good vibes.

He’s changing towards the mainstream flow because he knows that’s the only way he’s gonna get his message across to the young and vulnerable children and adults. He’s one the only rappers can take a mainstream type beat and spit straight bars on it. K.O.D was about kids on drugs. In this song he’s sayin you do as you wish cuz he tried to warn people and they didn’t listen. He no longer cares
First time watching you both on this reaction to a fire ass song! Enjoyed both of your inputs! I respect how George is real thoughtful and articulate beyond the music and also includs more on how we are receiving it in the black culture. Let me hit this subscribe button!
