Taiwan is part of China and no other country should meddle with China’s domestic issue. More than 90% of all the countries in the world have recognized that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China. What China does around the island is not a matter of other countries. However, if Lai is pushing the independence of Taiwan against the will of 60% of Taiwanese China will give a hand to these people. The usa should not meddle lest she wants to be humiliated.

Only Belize, Guatemala, Haiti, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Palau, Paraguay, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Vatican City recognize Taiwan as a sovereign nation. However, many countries maintain separate relations with Taiwan and a majority of residents of Taiwan identify themselves firstly as Taiwanese. Therefore, in a similar fashion to Hong Kong and Macau, China has always been happy to wait for Taiwan to fully "re-unite" with mainland China. Taiwan dominates the production of super advanced semi-conductor chips and the USA has fermented and supported Taiwanese separatism they do not want to be at mainland China's mercy for this vital product.
This have nothing to do with the high developed technology...this have to do with the real existence of Taiwan...they don't want to be part of China.. It’s no secret that Taiwan wanted to take back the mainland until the late 1970s. On the other hand, the mainland has been preparing to unify all of China, including Taiwan, from the beginning. If Taiwan's goal is independence, and Taiwan would rather die than live together with the mainland in one country, then Taiwan needs to achieve its goals through negotiation or war. If you cannot afford an expensive car, you can buy a cheap car; but you cannot choose Taiwan independence just because you cannot regain China. It doesn't work this way. The people of Taiwan are smart, but they are not rational when it comes to deciding Taiwan's future.

Cross-straits relation wise, nothing really had changed, China’s threat had always been there back then. Tension was not as high back then compared to now. The only notable difference was there rarely high level visits from western countries at the time. Just wondering why all sudden interest on Taiwan? Where were they in 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s? Why were there no western media spotlight and why didn’t the western countries send high level officials to visit Taiwan when Taiwan needed them?
