The best bodybuilder of the aesthetic era vs the best bodybuilder of the mass era. We can´t compare Arnold and Ronnie, they´re just the best of each era. Personally, i prefer the old school, Arnold looks like the reincarnation of Hercules.

I hope people don't forget that in 1970s Arnold was viewed as a mass monster and many of his competitors felt he won simply because he was the biggest BBer onstage.
There were more balanced, aesthetic BBers who competed during Schwarzenegger's era, but Arnie dwarfed them in height and weight.
bigstink9 Yeah, in the 70´s people want a balance between muscle mass and aesthetics, today bodybuilding is just about how muscle mass you have at low BF levels.
It is true that tall BB have a more difficult time develop big lower bodies relative to their size, but despite that, in my opinion, tall BB are the most impressive when they develop lean and highly muscular bodies, that’s the case of Steve Reeves and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Of course, others think that smaller but more symmetrical and aesthetics guys like Frank Zane are the most impressive.

Arnold's waist looks like a 28,, and his chest was genetically blue printed. The whole small waist big upper body, made him look so much bigger then 240... The legs weren't freaky stupid or over powering...What can I say, he had the mind of a sculptor...
the reason his legs were bad is because he couldn't squat right, with a small waist it is hard but he could still get the results doing it ass to grass like Platz on the smith machine, I have narrow hips and have brought my quads up, still got a lot to do on my calves
His legs were in proportion as far as I can tell. They weren't freaky like today's builders.

I love how he looks at 4:05-4:08... just so symmetrical and yet still athletic, despite his size... his naturally slim hips and narrow waist accentuate the look. This is what makes Arnie unique and superior to any other bodybuilder.

In the symmetry department Arnold had some issue, the foremost were his biceps(one very peak and not so long, and the other one longer and without peak), his lover part of ribcage, and also his triceps. But even with his defects(from a competition perspective) I still prefer his body shape.

Andrei Vlad When Arnie started, he was all about his biceps and had weak triceps, both peaks are visible in a back double bicep shot, but his most lacking part is his quads, Tom Platz had huge quads but he still had great lines in symmetry, I'm not being a troll but it's just how I think of it, as far as his rib cage goes, he would always attempt to expand his rib cage to have it company his chest growth and not have his abs bloated like bodybuilders now, as for his back, I really admire how it has perfect thickness as same as width, Flex Wheeler's back has more width and little thickness and just looks like shit

@@leart78 steroids is just testosterone to reach higher testosterone levels and heal and (if you take much enough) grow faster it's not just "drugs" older people use it too on prescription of the doctor because when you get older you testosterone levels decrease and steroids helps it to stay at the same level. So if you use it properly on prescription it's fine, that's what happened in the 70's to recover faster etc. now a days bodybuilders lost the vision of the sport en abuses them and are taking a lot other shit that increases growth

The added muscle and weight would have came from his additional leg development if he were to put on more mass in those areas. He would have more thigh sweep and hamstring development with his already superior etched out detail, pushing his competitive weight to at-least 265 lbs, plus he did not have the HGH-insulin gut of today's bodybuilders-that extra weight also comes from their gut.

Ronnie has better genetics than Arnold. If Arnold was 30 years old today and competing, he'd lose his aesthetics and it's really hard to say what he'd look like.
Arnold used to praise the genetic 'giftedness' of guys like Ferrigno and Oliva, guys who had superior arms and V-taper than Arnold.
Arnold would be a top pro nowadays, but I don't know if he had the genetic advantage he had in the 1970s to dominate now.
IMO he'd look like Dennis Wolf with calves.
One of the reasons Coleman is so great is because he was without question the hardest working BBer inthe gym. No one lifted the weight or volume that Coleman did.
And that difference had less to do with PEDs and more to do with his motivation to be huge.
Remember ROnnie Coleman competed as a pro for almost 10 years before he won the Olympia. He really had to bust his ass to break through.
Sergio Oliva is the one golden era BBer who I firmly believe would be a Mr. O if he competed today. Extremely genetically gifted.

Sergio had the highest shoulder-to-waist ratio of the three but his long torso made gave him a Y-shape when arms were held above his head or held out to the sides, whereas Arnold's large ribcage coupled with his short torso gave him a V-shape.

Being the best body builder used to be about more than raw size. It used to be about proportion. Arnie at least still looked human at his prime unlike the guys we have at competitions nowadays.

Ronnie is a product of today's bodybuilding world. Arnold was considered the most symmetrical and balanced body (of his time). Arnold paved the way for the beasts you see today in the sport. Of course there are/were bigger and even more defined muscle tone bodybuilders but Arnold's achievements for the time set the tone for the sport to come. Any sport like MLB or the NFL goes through similar such evolutions with the aid of technology and PEDs. Remember, the start of any sport begins with an interest, before it becomes a passion.
That would be Frank Zane not Arnold, most symmetrical. Arnold won because he was bigger and dryer than everyone else, which showed his muscle maturity. Drugs do not make you look like Ronnie Coleman genetics do and Arnold does not have the same genetic profile. Arnold's drive to make something of his life piggybacked his roots,bodybuilding, with him to stardom. we are all thankful for his singular focus and success.
Vincent Johnson To see what (somewhat) purely(?) genetics did for Ronnie, we must go back a few years before he was "Mr O". Already huge, having trained for years, he'd approached the point when further mass gains would be slow & small, (if at all), maintenance & refinement being the issue; yet Ron continued to get _much_ bigger. Genetics? Well, yes, but only in two senses: 1/Everyone juices, & everyone trains hard,so genetics win. 2/Different guys react differently to drugs. Ron was genetically well-suited to steroid HGH, and insulin.
I have known and trained with several competitive body builders and I managed a free weight gym. There were a least a dozen competitive bodybuilders and power liters training at the gym. People with great genetics really do not train as hard as people without. They do not have to. There is an air of truth to certain steroids work better with certain athletes. Arnold and Tom Platz did not take as much as the guys today. However the drugs worked better for them than others of there generation. Since they all took the same stuff. The thing people do not realize is that everyone has a maximum amount of muscle size on or off drugs. They just let people believe they can make continuous gains. That sells the sport. Dorian Yates would have continues to beat Ronnie if had did not have such a late start in the sport. He was not as put together but he had a better look on stage. There is no genetic accommodation for HgH or Insulin specific to Ron Coleman or any other person. These are naturally occurring substances in the human body and taking extra amounts allows a kind of enhancement of the muscle building process. I trained at a body-weight between 260-277 without drugs and not being a fat hog. With drugs I would have been 290-300 and had 20-25 pounds of more muscle. I do not have the structure to compete, so I did not take drugs. The last two things, 1) When you have weight trained for a very long time you can recruit more muscle fiber/contraction, so you can workout less but get the same results. You nervous systems adapts to the training giving you better results with less work. 2) Ronnie Coleman makes training videos for the public to see but he is not training like that all the time.

I haven't seen anyone who can match Arnolds's biceps. They're so hug, they even look good with almost straight arms. To me, his biceps and chest are second to none.

Fun fact, not everyone can have 4 abs...no matter how hard they try. Everyones genetics are different, heck there are some people out there who can have only 2 abs, it doesnt decrease there strength its just different genetics.
Bodybuilding has evolved to this point since the 70s because the judges kept picking the bigger guys (yes Arnold falls into that category). Look at Ronnies pictures from 1991, great physique but nobody cared because he wan't big enough for the judges standards. Give the man the respect that he deserves!
I think Arnold only had 4 abs because his all time Super genetic chest that is longer from the clavicle down to the middle of his stomach. Look at his full rounded chest and how big it is from top to bottom and show me others who have it that length. That’s why he’s the best!

Ronnie is very very symmetrical in terms of modern body building. Arnold still has a beautiful body though.
Ronnie actually had very good symmetry, especially early on before his gut got out of control.
Arnold will always be the best bodybuilder for me, because of his V hercules body. Whereas Ronnie, he has a big belly.
Arnold from the chest up is fantastic, but Ronnie's legs, lats, and waste (before the bubble gut) are spectacular

Nikolai Dantzler Arnold used steroids yes. Probably 1/20 of what modern bodybuilders use today. Arnold never used Human Growth Hormone it wasn't available at the time. HGH is a staple of the modern bodybuilder. Modern body builders use insulin as a way of tricking the muscle into getting bigger. Arnold and his buddies from the seventies most likely believed, like the rest of the population, that injecting insulin when you are not a diabetic is fucking crazy and would seriously harm your body. This video is trying to compare different times and attitudes that are to far apart. It is like comparing Buddy Holly with Guns and Roses.
Arnold would jump on same gear as Ronnie if he had a chance. They are doing whatever it takes, thats it.
