It was a cool loft. Having lived near a freeway, I can tell you that, eventually that kind of noise fades into the background, kind of like the trains do. However, the interior noise with the footsteps above, you won’t change & it will be annoying & distracting. Your next home is out there. Be positive, keep looking!
I speak from experience; red flags are red flags for a reason. I promise you there will be other properties that you will love and not have to hear every footstep over your head. Be your own best friend and tell yourself what you already ready know, if there is a major problem that is endemic to the space then move on. I know it doesn't feel like it but there is a better fit out there for you. You have to compromise on somethings but not on something as basic as the ability to enjoy the quiet of your own home. Good luck, a little patience will pay off, I promise, chin up.
I’m in my late 50s and I walk up four flights just to have nobody above me. Often it’s my work bag, my backpack, and several bags of groceries. My overpacked suitcase - - ugh. Still worth it. There is nothing worse in my opinion than having no control over the noise above you. My old neighbors, Sasquatch and Clickety-Clop, were the absolute worst. But what are you going to say? Would you walk more softly? You made the right decision.
Before we moved here, we had a beautiful place in California but it was so very loud (near BART w/very noisy neighbors above us). Despite the beauty, I don’t miss it and I sleep so much better now. But yes on West Loop/Greektown. 💙
I live somewhere that the outside noises can be loud Sometimes, I can deal with that. My upstairs neighbors on the other hand are annoying af an i have considered moving because of them. Dont do it!!!
Imagine someone having a party or even just listening to their TV. I broke a lease I was in for FOUR years because a new neighbor blasted his TV every God forsaken day & night even after asking him several times to be mindful. Only to move into a place that was quiet the days I visited but on night one of sleeping there, I heard my neighbor snoring through the wall 😭 I cried lol It’s not just a city thing, as most people know. I recently bought a townhouse and while it’s MUCH better, I’ve decided I will never live with shared walls again when my boyfriend and I move in together. Thankfully he agrees 😂

Noise is something you can't get over. Even with new windows you'd need new soundproofed floors and ceilings.
You will find the right place when the time is just right. Never settle for something that doesn't make you feel like that loft you wanted.
