  • If you happen to get one of my little ones, then this is how I would recommend starting off , even from the first day. I did forget to mention when these little ones are out in a bigger cage it will take a little longer for them to get used to their surroundings. But it shouldnt stop you from doing this kind of handling. I guess I get a little complacent with them after 50 years off raising iguanas but this will work with my little ones If you do decide to leave them in the cage, you can always hand feed them in the cage until you feel more comfortable that way , but they will jump on you to get out, so make sure to watch for that. As always, if anyone needs advice feel free to text me at Dave Durham Lizards 559-259-6567 and I will try to help. I also have the grab method of taming on a previous video. I do have some left from this clutch for sale.

      Thanks. All the males are the same temperament. Females like I said in the video are only a little more scared, just because of size. Thanks for watching

    hey dave,
    still sleeping with my rhino ... his taken over my bed at night, either his deep in the micro fiber blanket or under my pillows . i keep him outside in the pool area during day since i live in southern florida. and just like the cat waits at the door to come in ..even wasted my money on a outdoor house for him he refuses to use.
    i found the hardest thing is keeping him out of the dog food
    his grown alot pass month , going on over 3 foot now, of course its mostly his tail at his age

      I like hearing that. Sounds like hes going to be a great pet. I found the 2 types of rock iguana I work with the rhino and the Cayman Brac will eat meat over plants if offered at the same time like dog food, egg, insects ,even snails or carrion like birds and mice. But I have always heard they will get a fatty liver if fed to much animal protein. I limit mine to the insects and any carrion like birds or mice. I do use king worms for egg laying females and young juvenile's . I also use the king worms when training voice commands for the stunts they perform. Keep up the good work! Thanks for watching

      @@DaveDurham yea i try to keep him on diet of mazuri tortoise chew and mix of greens , and veggies/ fruits every now and then . found bell peppers work great as a training food , that and potato bread .just he does freeroam so he does sneak to the dog bowl if given the chance , rather not let him eat dog food.

      @@dixensizzler Have you tried the Mazuri reptile pellets. Mine eat that a lot. Sounds like your diet is worth sticking to. I have yet to get mine to eat bell peppers. I do offer it to them. Maybe I should cut it up a little smaller. I have 50 pounds of tortoise chow and they wont eat that either. Do you soak the chow, or is chew different.

      @@DaveDurham sorry typo , i meant Mazuri tortoise chow , i soak it in water to soften it up , then just put over his greens . he will not eat it dry and only will touch it in the morning .

    Great channel ! I have a baby rhino iguana about 2 months old, do you think it's old enough to start trying this ?

    • @DaveDurham
      @DaveDurham  Рік тому

      Oh yeah. I have a video with Rocky at 4 months but I started early training. and he would follow voice commands to go on top of a little platform so I could pet him. ua-cam.com/video/GoRqVSnbvtY/v-deo.html Might want to check it out. But I did go to your channel and suggested using the grab method with that little rhino.

    How much do they weigh? And how old are they you have out in the hallway on that table?

    • @DaveDurham
      @DaveDurham  Рік тому

      I really didnt weigh them at this age, and I believe in this video the males were 20 inches. All these sold though and I just have one 2 year old male left for sale. Thanks for watching

    What’s your method for “grab taming?” Just got a Cuban Rock Iguana yesterday and want it to be tame. It’s pretty feisty right now. I’ve heard so many different ways of doing it, but I’m not sure which is the best way.

    • @DaveDurham
      @DaveDurham  4 місяці тому +1

      I did make a few videos of that method. If you go to my channel and type in my taming videos and I am sure one will pop up. Or you can check back in a couple of days and I will try to post the video. Thanks for watching

    You just use ceramic heat no light bulbs?

    • @DaveDurham

      I have a bulb in the fixture. It looks like 4 lights in the black brooder . Its on during the day right next to the ceramic heater. Thanks for watching
