2000 GMC Safari 4x4 Interior Rear Hatch Release Button Install

I install a momentary switch to actuate the rear hatch release from inside the van.

I'd like to do thi, I went low-tech with a piece of paracord - The one thing I wanted to see you didn't show, the wiring....

Take one of the t- connectors and one of the red wires coming from the switch and crimp it on the orange wire. Do the same with the other red wire coming from the switch to the purple wire. Those t-connectors slice through the insulation and make connection as you're crimping them on. Its super easy.

I dunno what gm was thinking on this dutch door with no interior opener, also why they didn't go mechanical for the outside. I'm on the fence between mechanical option or electrical for inside, I really like the clean approach the push button gives, but at the same time if safety is one of the goals a mechanical option doesn't fail if there is an electrical fire.
The wiring as he's done is really simple, the original button on the outside when pressed closes the circuit to give power to the actuator, splicing the momentary switch to the orange and purple wire is just another way to close that circuit, it doesn't matter which way around it is hooked
