I ordered Swedenborg's HEAVEN and Hell book so looking forward to reading that. I found you both the other day (Nov 2024) and took to this stuff as if my Soul was thirsty for it. It feels authentic and true so thank you both for this platform. I shall listen to some more and feel the feelings as it's very profound.
Thank you for these discussions. I believer I am on the right track. Guard against divisive thoughts. I really liked the part where you mention we cannot judge another, not even the angels can. Only God knows a person's life well enough for that.
So moving to hear this, Jean! Blessings to you with your growing understanding in a different kind of "light"! Hope you'll feel free to share questions and comments here, as you explore hundreds and hundreds of videos, and happy to have you with us on the journey!
The introduction to this video is fantabulous! Summed it up well. Oh God, purge hatred and judginess away from us, and increase our capacity to love like you so that we can be more and more your children, Amen! Love you Curtis and Jonathan you are the best!!❤❤❤
@@pennyfricke8964 Yes, I hope they continue for a long time. Aside from the humor and wisdom, I really enjoy the input from and connection with all the participants.
John Wright Do not give your attention to hateful angry thoughts or words from you or another person. Let the thought or words and the accompanying feelings come and go. They do not have to take root if you do not focus on them. Like a strong gust of wind they hit you and are gone. It is OK to take shelter if the wind gets too rough though. Blessings
Thanks, I believe this should be hammered in everywhere in this age of Social Media where scrolling down any comment section is filled with so much negativity it could induce cancer in the best of mere mortals!
Yes! So excellent, especially "the Four Keys". I'm going to cue this to your "membership break" for my friends (basically 40:00) with the caveat they can watch ALL if they have time, but the last section is so powerful. Thank you as always!
I love the way Swedenborg defines the people in heaven and hell based on their inner character, that is so true in the world today, we can see the hypocrisy and the duplicity of people in the world, especially government, even though they try to hide their inner character.
Yes, Gerardo -- Our friend Dr. Rose refers to the spiritual world as "an honest world," because duplicity is not possible. What a relief that will be, right?
I really enjoy your channel! Your sit-down talks are my favorite on UA-cam. They are certainly making a huge impact on my life and I hope that they are for others as well.
The battle is always Good vs Evil. That's why God tells us to treat others the way we would like to be treated. God gives us all free will. But if You choose to do evil in this life, God will not force you to be with him. That's why he has another place for those people. We have all done evil, and that's why God made a way for us through his son Jesus Christ. But you have to know you need help first and ask for forgiveness. God's way is the right way. But he'll never force you to go his way. Jesus is the only way. AMEN !!!
Fascinating episode! Great job guys. Possibly even explains sanpaku eyes .fattened eyeballs according to the bible. I will think of it like brain phlegm now.
yes. when one knows wholeness one cannot be divided. undivided love we each are in all our glory-us goodness! we are each the house undivided. boom diggity boom! no competition or greed when we each know what we are. only always each is a winner when one knows their wholly holy wholeness!
What helped me was thinking compassionately towards people lower in conciousness eg the very high NPD spectrum that can be very challenging to deal with. They all respond to light (compassion care love gentle guidance while pointing out some behavior) . I never thought that maybe it snaps them out of silly thought forms. I did start having to look at some arguments like I was in a spiritual battle to keep up the strength with dealing with some...it did help to keep stronger and not give in. I am one of the naturally altruistic but I think it was from reading the road less travelled as a teenager and focusing hard on it due to a family with some severe personality disorders so I think being walked over (other end of the spectrum) can be a different thought form that can get on board. I live the Sikh religion, they do have a symbolic few things and one of them is to stand up to opressive governments any i have ever met are such gentle beautiful kind people that I can imagine they would do it it such a gentle way still. Amazing hiw different culture/sociology etc can make us. They were doing some fascinating psychology experiments on people with surprising results and occasionally someone would stand out occasionaly and be a hero (like the man who stood in front of the tanks in Tiananmen square or the fellow who released the pictures from Abu ghraib) in situations...but not many. I ended up realising and having the strongest feeling that it would be those that walk with and are so strong with God (I term the mind masterings as staying in the top half of Dr David Hawkins vibration chart) more often than not. Anyone predominantly below the cut off point of courage (pride and below) the majority of the time would be the ones that were more malleable in the experiments. It showed me what a rarely it is in many of our cultures and developed countries. I am not convinced it is a very natural human state. Tribes would war with others at times so it shows what a state how our society set up has created for people too. Great advice about politics I had not thought of that. This is great information as always. Thank you gentlemen.
Thank YOU, natasha, for adding to the conversation! Such interesting points you make. I, too, was deeply affected by "The Road Less Travelled" as a teenager, as well as by Peck's other book, "People of the Lie." We keep on learning!
Just watched an interview on new thinking allowed with Robert Temple and his work on plasma, interesting correlations with Swedenborg's work, as well as Robert Monroe's work. Robert claims that they call hell "the pit" on the other side, which makes sense. Thank you for sharing. Much appreciated.
23:08 when I'm all stopped up with a head cold, all that flem clogging my throat seems to be ruling me at the time. I'm miserable until I take a steamy shower to break it up and take control back.
All of these great lessons that Curtis and Jonathan are discussing, here, are brilliantly demonstrated in George Saunders' novel: "Lincoln in the Bardo"... Highly recommended😊
Funny that you mention the phelgm.... I have a congested nasal cavity with sort of constricted openings too... It doesn't make me sleep easily sometimes.
I would never ever think of violence in any form against another person. I seem to try to not respond when an actual neighbor complains about their cars in your driveway or critique unkempt yard. I had neighbor that treated me as he was going on about my house cars. The house was vacant during the Covid lockdown so reason for yard unkempt and there was three vehicles and they were all in good shape just bit dirty needed to be washed. Mind you I just met this man, I haven’t a chance to say hello to introduce myself since he was new to the neighborhoodst and he started complaining. I walked away and went to the house and gave myself time to cool down and here he came back. Mom had in the meantime put up no trespassing sign and his wife threw a fit. The couple that had before were nice elderly neighbors and got along for years I also think they had stolen my new lawnmower doesn’t matter now. But why can’t people treat each other with respect and kindness. I am the type of person who respects other people and their belongings
Thank you Wren for treating others with respect and goodwill. That is how we gradually turn into angels. I am sorry that your neighbor made life difficult for you.
Power of fear manifests into the power of control. Power of Love is the opposite. Both of them yield results one for the short term ending in chaos(hell) and the other yields into eternity and can overwhelm hell (chaos) with (forgiveness). Thus changing the energy exerted by hell into Power of love. Makes sense. Hell is continual energy to divide and don't understand how it could be eternal then? Did that question ever come up?
"Continual energy to divide....." Interesting definition, friendfortheartists. I guess I'd say that one Swedenborgian point of view would be that hell is important in the whole scheme of our spiritual freedom, for two reasons: 1) We get to choose what we love, to eternity, and apparently some people choose to live in the 'continual energy to divide' or control or judge or hate etc..... ; 2) The existence of both hell and heaven mean that we humans on earth are in equilibrium between them. We are influenced by both, and we get to choose which one we want to align with.
@@offTheLeftEye I see it now. I tangled with all of this recently due to the death of someone close to me. I always wrestled with the idea of an angry God but now I know what he's upset about. It's a real paradox to understand hell exists because he loves us. Previously I used to lean toward the idea of there is no hell or that reincarnation had to exist to align with some Biblical texts. Then I hit your channel. I still lean to hell self destructing eventually that's the reason for my question. There's a lot to decipher in Swedenborg's writings. I am about to embark on more depth and investigation of the Holy Spirit as well.
Such a timely topic as we are all subjected to this unprecedented division we are now witnessing. What is more, I firmly believe that that negativity and hatred that the devil stirs up in us, acts as a poison and attacks the weak areas of our physical body, causing all manner of illness. Maybe the negative energy acts as a catalyst or somehow breaks down the body’s natural defence mechanisms? Did Swedenborg write anything along these lines at all?
In this video, we gathered some things Swedenborg wrote about the connection of spiritual influences and bodily health. See if any of this resonates with you! "How Spirits Are Connected To Your Health" ua-cam.com/video/NRcPG8LiUrs/v-deo.html&t
Did Sweedenborg visit the lady spiritually, who hated him, and stop her from trying to get him to hurt himself with knives? How would anyone be able to be aware and resolve things like this happening?
Hi, Carmela, this is Karin now. (Chara asked me to look into this for you.) This entry in Swedenborg's journal of spiritual experiences is all we know about it. The woman was someone he had known while she was alive on earth. I don't know of any description in which he talks to her in the afterlife, but he did say that he eventually met everyone that he had ever known there in the spiritual world. Sorry I can't offer the end of this paraticular story! Here's the quote from Spiritual Experiences, entry number 4530: "What kind [of spirits] are also with people on earth who harbor hatred against anyone There was a certain woman who inwardly harbored such a hatred against her parents at home that she thought about killing them with poison, and because she imagined that I wanted to espouse her, and she had been mistaken in her fantasy and married [another] man, she was then seized with such a hatred that she thought of killing me if she could (Sara Hesselia). As she had died shortly after that, before [the way] was opened to me to speak with spirits, it happened that I desired to kill myself with a knife. This impulse so increased that I was forced to hide my knife in my desk, so as to remove it from my sight. I have now discovered that it was the spirit of that woman who, whenever I saw that knife, was aroused, and so tightly urge this on my mind, due to the hatred she had contracted against me. This shows that people on earth can be attacked by the dead who had harbored hatred for them, without their knowing it."
Thank you, Karin! Chara here again.... To answer the second question posed by Carmela, it seems to me that stories like this are for the sake of illustrating that when someone has violent impulses (like Swedenborg described), it might be helpful to realize that those feelings are NOT coming from oneself. Just having the ability to separate from those feelings, by ascribing them to someone outside yourself, can really calm things down. So maybe we can't be aware of the specific circumstances of any given compulsion, but knowing that it could be some activity in the spiritual world can give us the ability to turn away from those thoughts/feelings, and reclaim our true nature. Ya know?
I know that we can download all of your books from your foundation, but my phone doesn’t have enough storage to do that. Why not distribute the on-line books to libraries? I could then sign onto my library and read them. No phone storage necessary.
Those verses aren't directly addressed by Swedenborg, sweetbean, but the point seems to be that only when we give up anger, revenge, hatred can we be truly connected to God, by "offering our gift at the altar."
Juan, perhaps we cannot actually split ourselves. Perhaps it seems we can, but since we cannot create what God cannot create, the most we can do is make up dreams, nightmares, really. I believe that what is Created is Real and from God. I believe that what man "makes" is flimsy, faulty, and, built on sand, is easily washed out to the sea.
@Renee60722 We can experience fragmentation when we act in contradiction to our highest understanding or when we allow conflicting motives to coexist without resolution. We can split ourselves when we stray from our inner truth or divine love, separating aspects of ourselves from each other. The Devil isn’t a literal creation but rather the manifestation of the spiritual forces that arise when love is replaced by the desires for control, division, and separation from the divine.
I wonder that, too. Do devils take an interest in each of us and each of our thoughts, or do our negative attitudes willingly slither into the cold, grey, stanky depths of lies, beebopping along with evil in general?
If you try to only think good thoughts, to do good, they simply get tired of you and take you for a lost cause. After some time of walking the good path, you will not get bothered anymore. They only seek someone who thinks like themselves, as they are attracted to like-minded people whom they can influence.
I don't think they're happy about anyone ruling over them, carmengale, but I suppose there are power differentials that make some people attempt to control and enslave others. I see a bit about that toward the end of the book "Heaven and Hell." Angels step in to govern hell, to keep things as smooth as possible. But maybe I missed something -- are you referring to a comment in this show? Timestamp?
@offTheLeftEye thanks, no comment in the show, just wondering how controlling spirits have anyone to control, since they all are attempting to do same.
There is a funny story Swedenborg tells about evil spirits who all kind of agree that the money belongs to them, (the same money) even though that is not possible, they can pretend. I can imagine that they could also pretend to each be in charge, even though that makes no sense, Carmen.
What is indifference? Is it a form of hatred since I would surmise it is a lack of love. There are people in my life whom I hated at one time because of something they did but through the years my anger and hatred toward them diminished and now I feel only indifference toward them. Is this still hatred?
Interesting question, Stephanie! I guess the way to know is to ask whether you wish them well, or wish them ill. The diminishing of hatred is progress in the right direction.
@@offTheLeftEye I don't wish them ill but I also don't wish them well. I guess when I think about it, I have never forgiven them. So is indifference then, a lack of forgiveness?
They also have placed a false memory and false details that are so profound that you can not remember the truth. This is why in your dreams you believe the dream to be true until you awaken
@saltylitmatt5134 occasionally that becomes a Lucid dream. Saw my grandfather in a dream and forgot he died. He was talking about loud noises. I'm like where did you get all this energy. Then all of a sudden I go wait. And I really think. I'm like your dead. He stops and stares. Everyone in the room stares. There is silence. I hug him and say I love you.. then he whispered... I love you too. I woke up.
@@immortalblue7315 oh yes! Exactly. You just reminded me of a very similar dream. I was in a new apartment and my grandparents came to see me. My grandma came through the door after my granddad and I was so surprised to see her. She was so bubbly and happy and when she hugged me I pulled back and we stopped and looked at each other. We both knew she shouldn’t be there. It was so special. I love when God lets us visit with our passed on loved ones. I’ve had similar dreams about a favorite cousin who died when we were both 20. It devastated me. He visited me in my dreams a lot.
I have a very important question, what about there were two people. Person A and B...person A was cruel and manipulative in this life and did a lot of harm to person B and they ended up having a lot of arguments...but they never got to resolve their problems or work on them and person A has died so now person B spends his whole life (next 20-30yrs) hating and hating for all that has been done to him by person B and cannot let go of it.... what'll happen to person B?
Actually, this happened to me- not being able to let go of a past wrong that was done to me. As a result, the Lord had to step into my life in a very drastic way: I had a hellish spiritually transformative experience (STE) where He made it very clear that by continuing on this path, I would be getting further and further away from Him. I was definitely making myself the victim, and ok I was! But the point was that I couldn’t forgive and move on with my life. By dwelling in the hurt, the wrongs, the injustice and the pain, I was getting further and further away from the fruits of the Spirit- love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, meekness, forgiveness and faith, thus doing myself great harm. Therefore, like a good father, he stepped in and in no uncertain terms spelled out what would become of me if I didn’t basically repent from my unforgiving attitude. I know this is not a pretty picture but I learned that day that the Lord means business. Whew! The good news is that about a year later I had another spiritually transformative experience but this time it was beautiful and I felt that indescribable love of God that so many NDEers feel. I felt soooo loved but it was somehow very humbling at the same time. Very hard to describe. God is many things but in my case He was definitely being the ultimate stern but loving father that I needed many years ago. ❤ Feel free to be in touch if you have any questions😊
e.marievalgarsson has given a very powerful example. Everything can get resolved in the afterlife, but carrying around that hatred and anger is simply poisoning person B's spirit, and not doing anything to resolve the problem, and they will carry that anger into the afterlife. We dig into the power of forgiveness in this video: ua-cam.com/video/2CJ_W9lE0co/v-deo.html&t
I cannot judge how they will end up, Sophia. I know that if someone spends 20 years stuck in hate, they have lost the chance to grow spiritually. Better to find a way to live now that the cruelty is gone. Here is a powerful video about that in which a woman who lived in Auschwitz forgave. ua-cam.com/video/2CJ_W9lE0co/v-deo.html
Absolutely he did write a lot about it uib. Shunning evils is the true path to a heavenly life. Check out our website www.swedenborg.com and see if you want to download a book or buy one. There is a wealth of ideas for changing your life.
And to be clear, the repentance Swedenborg discusses is about the SPIRITUAL level, not the physical level of things like forever chemicals. His steps of spiritual repentance are these: 1. Take an honest look at yourself -- your thoughts, motivations, goals, deeds. 2. Take responsibility for any "evils" you find there. 3. Take them to God, and ask for his help in getting past them. 4. Begin a new life. That is, change your behavior and stop doing the "bad stuff." Very straightforward, but not always easy!
@ yes, absolutely! I just love the metaphor of chemicals. Thanks so much for this additional information. “Repentance” seems to be absolutely crucial so I want to understand it as much as possible

We each have influence in our own way, and can contribute to the kindness and sense of peace in our own way Kenbellchambers. Here is a passage that gives me great hope. "Very different is the case with those who trust in the Divine. These, notwithstanding they have care for the morrow, still have it not, because they do not think of the morrow with solicitude, still less with anxiety. Unruffled is their spirit whether they obtain the objects of their desire, or not; and they do not grieve over the loss of them, being content with their lot. If they become rich, they do not set their hearts on riches; if they are raised to honors, they do not regard themselves as more worthy than others; if they become poor, they are not made sad; if their circumstances are mean, they are not dejected. They know that for those who trust in the Divine all things advance toward a happy state to eternity, and that whatever befalls them in time is still conducive thereto." Secrets of Heaven 8478
@@sharonlubina I am so concerned about the attacks that have already begun on people. I feel lucky to have retired early and moved to Mexico where I don't have to deal with that daily. Generally peaceful, I do hold a great deal of rage which steps forward during instances of injustice or bullying, and takes actions not always conducive to a peaceful outcome. When the rage burns, that's when the devils come out to dance. I do not wish to enable the devils to dance - it is hardly healthy for them, and, frankly, none of them is a Fred Astaire.
@@Renee60722 Ha! Not Fred Astaire dancing inside you.... Yes we are more vulnerable when the rage takes over, Renee. Wanting to protect those who are bullied sounds like a different thing though.
If some spirits are the slime on the brain, what type of spirits cause joint degeneration? Does swedenborg discuss the different diseases and what types of spirits encourage each one?
Carmen, it is not quite so direct as that. We cannot ascribe all physical pain to a spiritual cause. Joints probably correspond to the connections between people, the ways we can find commonality. Spiritually we can work on those relationships, and "limber them up" by actively looking for the good in others. But this does not mean our physical joints will heal.
Carmen here is a great video about how heaven is in the form of a human body. ua-cam.com/video/NRcPG8LiUrs/v-deo.html Maybe you will find insights about joints as you watch it.
to add a significant 5% to your discussion, when great injustices occur, (torture anyone? sustained over a period of time, not just in medieval times, happens today aplenty😢 psychological and physical, all over the world. grisly horrific murders happen) not saying that you are doing what I describe bellow, definitely not at all, but many people, Christian and not Christian do this, most, of course, take this to heart and then unwittingly they did this: try to push the victims into forgiveness while they are still reeling from pain and injustice and greef and sometimes even still figuring out what and how it even happened at all, this happens even to the relatives, not just the victim, especially if the victim didn't make it. they need to come to terms that the terrible things which happened to them were NOT their fault and not suffer from heavy heavy guilt for not having prevented or escaped the terror, of this happened, can it happen again? nightmares, insomnia, and so much more, but especially heavy guilt for having terrible thoughts about the abusers. trying to understand why they would do this to them, why this would happen to them. They truly don't need to feel guilty for unforgiveness on top of everything else.
If I may offer something I recently learned about forgiveness? Forgiveness is rooted in justice. When we are perpetrated against by someone, we suffer loss. It costs us something. We are owed repayment for that loss. Forgiveness is releasing the perpetrator from repayment of loss. Forgiveness is not the same thing as reconciliation, nor is it somehow coming into agreement with the act perpetrated against us. It is no longer holding the individual(s) accountable for repayment of loss. Comingto that forgiveness is definitely a process in healing.

Feel free to respond if you can and have the energy & time to do so; Do thee have videos, courses, seminars or group meetings where one is taught the trick to only open the mind up to good angels and not the bad entities? Jerry said this the trick & the Master on whose teaching's thee based thy church seemed to have found the way to do it? Can a mere mortal like me do something similar to only opening the psyche up to good influence and not bad entities? I know clinging to bad thoughts lead oneself to the pits of hell, but how can I close myself to bad thoughts and only have good thoughts entering my mind? Also Jerry said something akin to- our thought's aren't our own. Can one become a vessel to positive higher forces exclusively?
Is it not possible to discuss a topic? I don't think it's hatred to discuss topics, in itself. America is immersed in terrible conflict and confusion right now, we have lies flying every which way. If we do not communicate different points of view, especially with so much deliberate disinformation being dished into millions of people's heads, how can we make headway together as a people? My brown-skinned neighbors are about to be harassed mercilessly, for example - wouldn't it be unloving to not speak up for them and their rights, to at least present an alternate point of view? Goodness is not always silent. Letting the Jews (and gypsies and trade unionists and disabled people and Christians) get dragged off to concentration camps by remaining silent during the Nazi period would not have been goodness. Right? I don't need to hate or feel spiteful just to discuss something. Surely many people are the same by now in human history. Yes or no?
Yes, falconbritt. Discussion does not equal hatred -- did they say that it does? It just seems that people often struggle to have a heated discussion WITHOUT descending into hatred. But we can rise above that!
(Edited for better clarity on my part) Hey guys, quick question here. i'm a bit at loss with the 1.03.00 part about Heaven/Hell perspectives on sin/errors, as in i don't really understand how Angels would not seek to tell you: "Hey buddy, you've got this dramatically wrong. Here, let me show you what, and here's how you can improve." Sure, i see how hell would bring that up to condemn you and have you despair, but even in the passage of the woman that's being quoted, Jesus doesn't casually say: "Nah fam, you're good." but "Neither i condemn you. Now go and SIN NO MORE." There is a sin, there is a fallacy and a culpability and it's pointed out followed by an admonition to change, while what i kind of took from this part is that hell only is interested in pointing out fallacies? I've likely gotten this wrong, and i understand what the message that was being conveyed is, but what i took away from it is that while hell is bent of pointing out mistakes, heavens seems to be not that interested in pointing out the error or even noticing it? Wouldn't this be against justice?
This is a great point you bring up! Yes, angels absolutely do bring up the ways a person needs to change, to the extent that the people are willing to listen. Maybe that wasn't emphasized as much in this video, because there is so much to discuss on the topic, but angels are ready to teach us better ways when we want them. And meanwhile, there are concepts all over Scripture and throughout world religions everyone telling us the difference between harmful and beneficial behavior. And angels are the ones working to stir our interest in knowing and noticing the difference!
That said, I remember Dr. Rose pointing out a passage that said that angels can't outright TEACH us anything, but they can influence our feelings/affections/love to point us in better directions. But I'm sure how that plays out in people's individual experiences is all over the map!
would it be better not to study history? (this is not facetious not sarcastic, I'm asking sincerely) so much horrific stuff just only in the century just past, but in events described in the bible too. perhaps the biblical times are not as vivid as the more recent horrors, I don't feel as connected to them via family ties. I've seen photographs of victims of torture. I am grateful they are only black and white, otherwise I would have had sleeplessness much longer. but I want to know the truth about history of my people and the photos were necessary to prove things happened. (I refuse to watch a fictional horror or even slightly scary FICTIONAL movie of any kind) But I really did need to be shook out of my reverie that all people are good. I was naive thinking everyone everywhere is good. at least in this century and in this place. as a teenager I nearly got myself gang raped with my naive trust of people. the question is, would it have been better for me not to have ever known? cause these pictures are now part of the mosaic of the jumble of the mental pictures that are me. it ain't all pretty and all the time peaceful in here and it would be unrealistic to strive for that especially if I also want to know the truth about this world. about pretty much everything. reading Swedenborg's books has answered so many questions for me, still so many questions still answers looking for. if Swedenborg doesn't answer these anywhere in his writings, I don't think anyone else will until I'm in the afterlife. 😊
Oooph. My first reply disappeared! Let me try again... There are great questions, Elena. As your username implies, I think all of us WILL keep having questions to eternity. We can never know is ALL. My own personal thoughts on the matter are that some people can immerse themselves in history or current events, and not have all the suffering permeate their sense of wellbeing. Others are more sensitive, and exposing themselves to all the atrocities becomes too big a burden for their spirit to bear. Some can't erase visual images from their minds once they've seen them, but reading about things doesn't have the same effect. So it seems that everyone needs to realize how they're wired and take care of themselves accordingly. As Jesus told his disciples, "Be wise as serpents and gentle as doves." Perhaps it's useful to acknowledge that there IS evil in this world, and we can learn to carry ourselves/ educate ourselves/ defend ourselves accordingly. But we can still "look for the good" as Swedenborg suggests, and keep our distance when we don't see it. The thing is, all our thoughts and feelings are spiritual. They ARE the spiritual world. So if looking at all the horrible "man's inhumanity to man" keeps us in a state of hell -- that is, fear and rage and horror and depression and hatefulness and revenge -- then we're in hell. If we can learn and be educated and NOT have it take over our spirit, then we don't have to be in hell. We can make a choice about where we're spending our time and energy. Am I making any sense?
@@offTheLeftEye what you were saying seemed to make sense, all of it, right until you said "Am i making seense?" Do not give your attention to hateful angry thoughts or words from you or another person. Let the thought or words and the accompanying feelings come and go. They do not have to take root if you do not focus on them. Like a strong gust of wind they hit you and are gone. It is OK to take shelter if the wind gets too rough though. Blessings

I love the way Swedenborg defines the people in heaven and hell based on their inner character, that is so true in the world today, we can see the hypocrisy and the duplicity of people in the world, especially government, even though they try to hide their inner character.

Great way to put it, Nathan.

I guess I'd say that one Swedenborgian point of view would be that hell is important in the whole scheme of our spiritual freedom, for two reasons:
1) We get to choose what we love, to eternity, and apparently some people choose to live in the 'continual energy to divide' or control or judge or hate etc..... ;
2) The existence of both hell and heaven mean that we humans on earth are in equilibrium between them.
@@friendfortheartists We are grateful to be part of your spiritual deep dive, Friend. We agree that there is a lot to unpack in Swedenborg's writings!
one of my favorites is ... "I don't have to believe everything I think."
Me too, Christine! I remember the impact that line had on me the first time I saw it on a bumper sticker, decades ago!
I don't remember hearing that he ever visited her, Carmela. If I learn otherwise, I'll let you know!
Here's the quote from Spiritual Experiences, entry number 4530:
"What kind [of spirits] are also with people on earth who harbor hatred against anyone
There was a certain woman who inwardly harbored such a hatred against her parents at home that she thought about killing them with poison, and because she imagined that I wanted to espouse her, and she had been mistaken in her fantasy and married [another] man, she was then seized with such a hatred that she thought of killing me if she could (Sara Hesselia).
Ya know?
So true. Yahuah led me out of this hell
Praise Yahuah, Carmen!

Mathew 5 23-24.
Why does the passage say to leave the offering at the alter? Why not carry it with you until you return?
Those verses aren't directly addressed by Swedenborg, sweetbean, but the point seems to be that only when we give up anger, revenge, hatred can we be truly connected to God, by "offering our gift at the altar."
Geez and I thought it was TV, commercials, movies and other rubbish.
This was good.

Only we can divide (split) ourselves: Man created the Devil in his likeness and image. May the Lord united us..!
Yes may the Lord unite us all Juan.

If devils speak to us in our minds does that mean they read our minds and know our every thoughts?
I wonder that, too. Do devils take an interest in each of us and each of our thoughts, or do our negative attitudes willingly slither into the cold, grey, stanky depths of lies, beebopping along with evil in general?
I've wondered this because I've always been taught they can't.
@@androidery1999 likewise
I think the devil just knows us better than we know ourselves. By observation he would have known our weaknesses. What would make us angry.
If you try to only think good thoughts, to do good, they simply get tired of you and take you for a lost cause. After some time of walking the good path, you will not get bothered anymore. They only seek someone who thinks like themselves, as they are attracted to like-minded people whom they can influence.
Hi, im wondering what people in the hellish realms would allow controlling people to rule over them?
I don't think they're happy about anyone ruling over them, carmengale, but I suppose there are power differentials that make some people attempt to control and enslave others. I see a bit about that toward the end of the book "Heaven and Hell." Angels step in to govern hell, to keep things as smooth as possible. But maybe I missed something -- are you referring to a comment in this show? Timestamp?
@offTheLeftEye thanks, no comment in the show, just wondering how controlling spirits have anyone to control, since they all are attempting to do same.
@carmengale3311 They fight amongst themselves, too.
There is a funny story Swedenborg tells about evil spirits who all kind of agree that the money belongs to them, (the same money) even though that is not possible, they can pretend. I can imagine that they could also pretend to each be in charge, even though that makes no sense, Carmen.
That is for sure Franceshaas.
Until you don’t. Have you never realized in a dream that it was a dream and it seemed to deactivate it (applies to scary dreams mainly)?
@saltylitmatt5134 occasionally that becomes a Lucid dream. Saw my grandfather in a dream and forgot he died. He was talking about loud noises. I'm like where did you get all this energy. Then all of a sudden I go wait. And I really think. I'm like your dead. He stops and stares. Everyone in the room stares. There is silence. I hug him and say I love you.. then he whispered... I love you too. I woke up.
Yes that does sometimes happen to me, Salty. Dreams are curious!
What a precious dream, immortalblue! It gives me the chills.
Did Swedenborg write much about how to repent (get rid of the forever chemicals)?
Absolutely he did write a lot about it uib. Shunning evils is the true path to a heavenly life. Check out our website www.swedenborg.com and see if you want to download a book or buy one. There is a wealth of ideas for changing your life.
And to be clear, the repentance Swedenborg discusses is about the SPIRITUAL level, not the physical level of things like forever chemicals. His steps of spiritual repentance are these:
1. Take an honest look at yourself -- your thoughts, motivations, goals, deeds.
2. Take responsibility for any "evils" you find there.
3. Take them to God, and ask for his help in getting past them.
4. Begin a new life. That is, change your behavior and stop doing the "bad stuff."
Very straightforward, but not always easy!
@ yes, absolutely! I just love the metaphor of chemicals. Thanks so much for this additional information. “Repentance” seems to be absolutely crucial so I want to understand it as much as possible
@ I feel like turning your attention away from evil is also a type of repentance (as in change of heart and attention). It’s possibly multi-layered
@@uib137 It really is crucial to a heavenly life. The Ten commandments are a great place to begin. Half the country is angry now, how to get past that ?
A very good question Sharon. Looks like we are about to find out. It is going to be rough ride.

What spirits cause joint degeneration?
If some spirits are the slime on the brain, what type of spirits cause joint degeneration? Does swedenborg discuss the different diseases and what types of spirits encourage each one?
Carmen, it is not quite so direct as that. We cannot ascribe all physical pain to a spiritual cause. Joints probably correspond to the connections between people, the ways we can find commonality. Spiritually we can work on those relationships, and "limber them up" by actively looking for the good in others. But this does not mean our physical joints will heal.
Carmen here is a great video about how heaven is in the form of a human body. ua-cam.com/video/NRcPG8LiUrs/v-deo.html Maybe you will find insights about joints as you watch it.
to add a significant 5% to your discussion, when great injustices occur, (torture anyone? sustained over a period of time, not just in medieval times, happens today aplenty😢 psychological and physical, all over the world. grisly horrific murders happen)
not saying that you are doing what I describe bellow, definitely not at all, but many people, Christian and not Christian do this, most, of course, take this to heart and then unwittingly they did this:
try to push the victims into forgiveness while they are still reeling from pain and injustice and greef and sometimes even still figuring out what and how it even happened at all, this happens even to the relatives, not just the victim, especially if the victim didn't make it. they need to come to terms that the terrible things which happened to them were NOT their fault and not suffer from heavy heavy guilt for not having prevented or escaped the terror, of this happened, can it happen again? nightmares, insomnia, and so much more,
but especially heavy guilt for having terrible thoughts about the abusers.
trying to understand why they would do this to them, why this would happen to them.
They truly don't need to feel guilty for unforgiveness on top of everything else.
I'm with you, Elena. It's a process. Healing takes a long time. Blessings and peace and love to all who are dealing with this kind of thing.

@@offTheLeftEye Thank you so much. You've replied graciously to all of my comments and I thank you for it. I haven't watched the videos you sent and perhaps the answers I seek are there, if there are, forgive my impatience and perhaps quasi sloth, if they aren't there let me know if I take up too much space and time.
Our thoughts have no power, towards evil if we are grounded with the creator. Meditation helps.
Getting grounded with the Creator and tuning into that love and power is very protective, dolores!
Why the name: "Off The Left Eye" ?
Swedenborg said something came "Off the left eye" when his spiritual eyes were being open.
They did a video about it too ❤
The angels peel a layer off of our eyes when we enter heaven, and afterwards we can see clearly. This may have something to do with it.
Here is a short video explaining that name, Seacaster. ua-cam.com/video/u4grRbDQRxs/v-deo.html
Yes that's right Androidery.

(Edited for better clarity on my part)
Hey guys, quick question here.
i'm a bit at loss with the 1.03.00 part about Heaven/Hell perspectives on sin/errors, as in i don't really understand how Angels would not seek to tell you: "Hey buddy, you've got this dramatically wrong. Here, let me show you what, and here's how you can improve." Sure, i see how hell would bring that up to condemn you and have you despair, but even in the passage of the woman that's being quoted, Jesus doesn't casually say: "Nah fam, you're good." but "Neither i condemn you. Now go and SIN NO MORE."
There is a sin, there is a fallacy and a culpability and it's pointed out followed by an admonition to change, while what i kind of took from this part is that hell only is interested in pointing out fallacies?
(this is not facetious not sarcastic, I'm asking sincerely)
so much horrific stuff just only in the century just past, but in events described in the bible too. perhaps the biblical times are not as vivid as the more recent horrors, I don't feel as connected to them via family ties. I've seen photographs of victims of torture. I am grateful they are only black and white, otherwise I would have had sleeplessness much longer. but I want to know the truth about history of my people and the photos were necessary to prove things happened. (I refuse to watch a fictional horror or even slightly scary FICTIONAL movie of any kind)
But I really did need to be shook out of my reverie that all people are good.
@@offTheLeftEye what you were saying seemed to make sense, all of it, right until you said "Am i making seense?" Lol 😆
I think I'll keep especially the last two paragraphs in mind and think about that for a while. Seems very helpful, with much to consider, ponder, digest.
I foresee some work (which I love!) on my part to compare, observe my inner reality with what you said in the last paragraph.
Thank You so much!
@@ElenaLearningForeverToInfinity Yes pondering, prayer, and believing that God will guide us all seem to help with the confusion, and the pain. Thanks for being in this conversation Elena.

( Cheek: perception or comprehension of truth. ) This knowledge is worth the whole price of admission. 😁 Seriously, I have struggled with that one my whole life. Listened twice the dug through the transcript for certain points and especially the last bits. Thank you both. 🩵🩵
