Subscribed. Phil's conversion really got me thinking about this. It should be nice to watch a less theatrical edition of this engine swap.
Awesome. I'm using an A30 V8 from jag for my current build. Using the SC engine block, but using a a single medium sized turbo on it. Not really trying to make more than 500bhp in this sardine can so it should be very reliable and under stressed.
Niiiiice
This is an exciting engine swap. I think the V6 is better suited to the Miata than a V8. A V8 is definitely cool, but it's really overkill for such a light car. Unless you're on a track, you'll never be able to use its power for more than a couple of seconds. The stock V6 will have way more power than the 4 cyl. Miata engine, but you should be able to use it. Most important to me, you should be able to rev it out, the way in which a Miata is most fun. I think "torqueing" around at low revs in a V8, having to be gentle with the throttle, is kind of missing the point with such a nimble, light sportscar.
Please keep us updated on the this project's progress.
Well stated.
I used to work for jaguar cars at whitley. Nice background. A couple of things- the engine was never called the “AJ30” and Wikipedia is wrong (the AJ30 was infact the designation for the lincoln 3.9 V8 variant). In the X type it was called the AJ61 . For the longitudinal application we just called it AJV6. I’m sure Mazda had their variant of port and chamber design but we did our own, and it was not carry over from Mazda or ford, but done by us. The AJV6 has slightly over sized ports for the size and a somewhat closed chamber. Intake cams are 246 period and exhaust are 249. I always thought, even at the time, that it would be ideal for a sports car. Infact it was going to be fitted in the F type of back then midship and transverse but that project got cancelled.
Can you tell me the engine code for the 3.0l super charged v8?
Great information. I agree it's a great choice.
I really want to see this car come together, go on!
Did not know Mazda had considered this motor for the MX-5. Interesting. Thanks!
Where can I get a Hoodia like that? Lol. I'm also going to be doing the same swap next year on my 93.
Can't remember to be honest. It's a few years since I bought it.
Completely agree with you!
What clutch did you use? Did rocketeer provide the clutch and was it OK?
Rocketeer provided it. Can't remember which brand it was, but it was definitely an uprated one. Organic one (not paddle or track orientated) so was just like stock - very easy to use on the road.
I have a jaguar x type with the aj30 and its a realiable engine..i hope you got the 3.0 instead of the 2.5
Yep, got the 3 litre one.
@@Jazda i hope to see your car come 2 life and i cant wait to see and hopefully you get the rocketeer carbon double air manifold... Also...in the near future maybe we can see you upgrade the bottom pistons and maybe turbo or supercharge it..😄
Carbon manifolds are a definite. Can't wait to put them on for some engine bay candy!
Hi sir. What did you use for pcm and harness and transmission? Thank you
The Rocketeer kits comes with an ECU and harness. Transmission is the stock MX5 one (5 speed or 6 speed)
@@Jazda awesome. im trying to keep everything from the donor car and fab an adapter. we'll see how it goes. my only concearn is the wiring as ive never done a "'smart" engine swap before.. keep up the great vids
So if I go with a KL swap, I don't have to change anything related to the gearbox?
Only thing you'll need is an adaptor plate
@@Jazda Easy as pie, cheers.
Who gives a shit, it's your car put what ever you like in it my brother.
It says Mazda on the block therefore it is scca sts legal
Aka Ford duratech
Not so much the duratec has a different cylinder head design with roller finger followers and different chamber and port angles.
